Move out or get married. Those are my options, thanks to the trust my grandma left behind.
From Marie Johnston comes a single mom, marriage of convenience romance.
My aunt is determined to see to the terms of the inheritance. If I don’t get married, I’ll have to find somewhere I can afford with two kids and a lot of debt—and do it without losing my brand new job. When she confronts me on the moveout deadline, I try to buy time. I blurt out a name. I tell her I’m engaged to Eliot Knight.
Eliot’s my boss’s brother, and he’s been around the vet clinic where I work. He’s hot. He’s charming. He’s who I’d pick if I had to marry someone at a moment’s notice. But he wasn’t supposed to hear me. He wasn’t supposed to get dragged into my mess. And he wasn’t supposed to agree to help me. Now, we’re Mr. and Mrs. Knight.
We only need to be married for a year, and he runs his family’s ranch in another town. Three hours away. Yet circumstances keep throwing us together, and I get a lot of time with my new husband. I enjoy his company. His...touch. I fall hard the first time I heard him say “my wife.”
But our lives are still separate. At the end of the year, I’m afraid I’ll get to keep my house, but I’ll lose my heart and be left with nothing but endless memories.
Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!
Why in “single mom” trope the FMC is always in a miserable state and has no time for her life? While in “single dad” trope the MMC can handle everything and his s*x life is great 🙄 For once I want to read about a single mom who has a good life and a good relationship with her ex or was a widow and loved her ex but is ready to find love again. Whatever I'm sick of the abusive ex 😒.
Anyway about this book This was my first read about “a single mom” who’s pursues the MMC and he pushes her away lol (it’s usually the opposite) and NO it wasn't good it was so pathetic. After her ex and what he did to her, she deserved someone who would pursued her and never let her go.
— First of all the MCs took so long to start getting closer to each other (not intimately) they were literally strangers until about 40% but they still don't spend time together until the end 😒 They were attracted to each other from the beginning (the h more than the H)
— Their separations were one of the things I didn't like about this book. The H was good with the h and her kids, I wanted to invest in their relationship but they separated several times throughout the entire book and they only meet on weekends few times, the H had hardly been around because they both live in different towns three hours away and he couldn't leave his ranch, he keep texting the h during separations and both were faithful (the H decided to be celibate for a year until their marriage ends)
* First separation for weeks (This after their marriage and before they become intimate)
* Second separation for month and half (This is after their kiss, the H told the h that he wouldn’t take advantage of her and wouldn’t do this again). One of the H’s employees was upset with him because he didn't make an effort to spend time with the h and the H’s response was like… (This at the 48% mark)
“We’re not married for real.” I wasn’t the only one who needed reminding.
* Third separation for 6 weeks (This is after they became intimate) At this point I’m sick of them and wanted them to move in together, not spend the whole book apart from each other. He had only stayed over four weekends since their marriage so I don't understand the h's longing for him or her children's love for him. This man is still a stranger to them 😐 (this at the 60-70% mark). He didn't even try to make their marriage real (to be honest i never felt they were married) and he push the h in the last third of the book (It's true that he cared about her, but I felt that he treated her as if she was one of his hookups)
* Fourth Separation for month (Here I was no longer invested in the MCs and lost interest plus the h is pathetic, this at the 78% mark)
* Fifth Separation for weeks Pls just get a divorce… (At this point the h wanted more with the H but he didn't want that. She told him that she loved him and he didn't respond to that. She asked for a divorce and you know what he didn't pursuer her either, this at the 90% mark)
Unfortunately It took him a long time to get his head out of his ass (until about the end) but it’s OK, the heroine let him back to her life so easily without any grovel from him. __________
Safety:
— H/40 - h/30 — Fake marriage (Strangers to friends to lovers) — The h fell first and she’s the one who pursues the relationship / push from the H — A single mom of two adorable kids (Her eldest daughter is actually her ex-husband's daughter with another woman. The biological mother left her with him when she was 6 months old and the h adopted her after their marriage). — Abusive ex-husband (emotionally not physically). — Her ex is pathetic and didn’t want anything with his children so he’s out of the picture. — The H doesn't seem like a manho but he’s very experienced (he hadn’t been in any long-term relationships) plus he never loved anyone before the h. — The h compares (a lot) between the H and her ex. — The h celibate for a year and the H for a long time (Idk what is “a long time” to him). — Separation (The whole book is about their relationship during the separation. Every month they spend one weekend together). — No owd/omd/cheating.

The Knight family are one of my favourites. Though I skipped the previous two stories (I'll read them asap) I liked Eliot's story as much as the first two.
4.5 🌟 The single mom trope is so slept on but so good! Then you mix that with a marriage of convenience and I am so here for it! I love this family so much, they have have their own section of my heart and I’m so sad this series has come to an end 😭 but it ended on a perfect note with Eliot and Lily!
Lily and Eliot find themselves getting married after Lily learns the house her grandmother left her when she passed, is only truly hers if she is married and stays married for one year! Eliot does not want to see Lily and her two young children left with no where to go so he steps in and agrees even though he’s only met Lily a couple of times as she now works for his sister in law.
The meet cute was definitely chaotic but also fun and cute! The chemistry was there, there was abit of angst and the cutest moments between Eliot and lilys kids 🥹 So many lovely Knight family moments too. Eliot struggles with being enough and has a lot of deep running struggles that he eventually lets his family and also Lily help him with and I really loved that. The growth of these two characters from start to finish was so good. They truly saved each other. Two people never deserved a happy ending more than they did!
The introduction to lilys siblings was so great and I cannot WAIT for this next series and how their stories play out
This book was so sweet! My first Marie Johnston book and I've downloaded the previous series! I loved her writing so much.
》 When put in a rough position Lily has no choice, but to lie to her Aunt about her upcoming marriage. She was only hoping to buy herself sometime so that her and her kids didn't end up having to leave the home they were promised before her Grandma passed away. She never expected her inheritance to come with life changing stipulations.
While talking to her Aunt, Lily blurted out the first name that came to mind just as the man himself walked into the room. Always putting others before himself Eliot sees a single mom in need of some support. Driving right in to be the perfect husband and step-dad he makes it really hard for Lily to not fall for her fake husband! Especially when he's proving to her that not all men are like her ex. 《
The angst in this book kept me on the edge of my seat. These two characters were both so loveable you knew it was inevitable that they would eventually find their way to each other. BUT dang it took a while.
I really liked this one. Eliot was everything I was hoping for. The way he treated Cali and Kellen was just so sweet. Lily was his perfect match. I loved that she realized leaning on your family doesn't make you weak.
This was a pretty sweet single mom romance. My only gripe was Aunt Linda should have had her ass handed to her🙄
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review
I’m so sad this series is over! I loved hanging out with the Knights and getting each of their stories, but I have to say, Eliot’s story was my favorite. He turned out to be so much more than I expected. He was gruff and broody on the outside, but when he saw Lily and her adorable kids, he turned into a softie, and I loved that for Lily. She was dealt a crappy hand with a divorce, new job, and a move all at once. She tried to keep her head high, but the world just wouldn’t stop dishing her problems. Recently, she moved into her grandmother’s old house and was under the impression that it was left to her, but there were several stipulations she was unaware of to become the sole owner of the house, and one of them was her being married. Since she was recently divorced, this being married thing stressed her out and she ultimately told her aunt that she was engaged to buy herself time to move and said Eliot was the lucky man. Eliot can see that Lily really needs help, so he goes along with the farce. He was drawn to Lily from the beginning and genuinely wanted to help her. He is envious of his siblings and their families, and Eliot wanted to feel that happiness, too, even if it wasn’t real. As time went on, Lily and Eliot grew closer and started to enjoy each other’s company. Eliot’s whole life has been his family’s Ranch, and there are stipulations in his father’s will about what he must do to keep it. He realizes that family is more important and knows he must find a way to be with Lily while also keeping the Ranch he works so hard to keep. The chemistry was always there between these two. I loved how Eliot went immediately into dad-mode and treated Lily’s kids like his own. It was sweet to read about him with these kids he fell hard for. Lily never felt like she could be herself in her last relationship, but Eliot always made her feel special. This series is a must-read!
Lily moved to Crocus Valley, ND for a new start. A mother of two and recently divorced, everything is on her. Her grandmother passed away recently and she inherited her farmhouse. Until one day, her aunt shows up and tells her that she has to be married for a year to officially be the owner of the house. She had a month to make that happen. How was she going to find a husband in a month while working full time at a veterinary office and a full time mother of two? Insert her boss’s brother-in-law, Eliot.
Eliot lives 3 hours away in Montana and is running the family’s cattle farm and trading Arabian horses. He comes to town a few times a year and one time he does, he runs into Lily at the vets office. She was struggling as a brand new mom of two and having a hard time. Another time he saw her was when her aunt shows up to her company picnic. Somehow Lily tells her aunt that she’s dating Eliot. Shocked but he went along with it.
Lily tells Eliot the whole story about if she doesn’t get married and stays married for a year, she looses the house. He knows he wants to help her so he offers to marry her for the year. He lives 3 hours away so they won’t see each other but in the end she will get the house. Well, the time Eliot is around Lily and her kiddos, they all fall for each other… but will they be enough for them to work?
Tropes: Small Town Single Mom Marriage of Convenience Long Distance Relationship Found Family
I love a big, noisy family saga. The Knight family has given me this, but Eliot is the last son. We do not know much about him, but he is king of the grill and a few hours away at the family ranch.
Lily works for Eliot’s sister in law, and she is new in town. A little broken, a little overwhelmed, but grateful for her job as a vet tech. An out of control dog and a package of cookies make for their first meeting.
Lily thought she she was starting over, her grandmothers home, a new job, but a wrinkle has just thrown her for a loop. She needs to find a husband quick, and the name that comes to mind is Eliot. Both Lily and Eliot are both a little broken, but together they learn to sort feelings and move forward. I love Eliot’s moments with her kids. We also meet Lily’s family and have a preview for what is to come.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
i’m so sad the knight family’s done but i’m really happy lily & eliot were the last book <3 one thing i absolutely loved was how marie made lily & eliot feel like real people to me. they struggled with normal things like work/work life balance and pickup/drop off for school and it just made them feel really relatable
also marie is the queen of writing single parents and she truly never disappoints!!
i’m so freakin excited for the next series & get get to know more about lily’s family <3
I have loved this series and, in my opinion, Elliot is the best of the Knight family. He has taken all the horrible parts of his parents to heart and is determined to remain alone, not realising the impact this has on those around him. I love Cali...such a spunky kid and the last chapter bought a tear to my eye. Looking forward to reading about Lily's siblings in the next series.
When Lily's put on the spot thanks to her grandmother's will, she blurts out a name right as the man himself appears. Now she and Eliot are getting married so she kan keep her grandma's house, and she and her kids will have a home. But what was supposed to just be a marriage of convenience to help her, is soon becoming much more to Lily. The question is, does Eliot feel the same? Does he want a real marriage - a real home with a family?
Eliot's the Knight who puts everyone's needs before his own. That's what people with savior complexes do. It's what made him step up and offer to marry Lily when she clearly needed help. And now he's stuck between giving into the feelings he's developed, and once again, doing what's right for everyone but himself.
I'm really sad to see this series end, but Eliot and Lily are the perfect couple to pull the whole series together and go out with a sweet way. The amount of growth they both do is so significant, so necessary, but had me on the edge of my seat wondering just when they would get on the same page finally. When they did, and both families were brought together, I was smiling so big. I was rooting this adorable couple on from their first page. And though I'm sad because the Knights have all found love and are done, Lily has an equally large family, and I'm excitedly waiting for all their stories now.

A fantastic edition to this series and a wonderful ending to it too. I loved it. This is a heartwarming story. Eliot is managing his families ranch, after all of his siblings have left to pave their own way. The responsibility for the ranch is a lot for Eliot, but he is all the ranch has left. Lily divorced her husband, he is a real piece of work and a cheater, leaving her with his little girl and their new born son. Lily is in real trouble, she lost her job and is struggling to make ends meet, and now because of her grandma she may lose her home. Her only solution is if she was able to collect her inheritance. But in order to do that she had to be married because that was the condition her grandma had put in place. Lily is an Angel because the little girl she was left with wasn't her child but her ex husbands but he abandoned her, didn't want her. Lily without question loves the girl as her own and I loved her for that. So Eliot and Lily are both struggling in their lives and then they unexpectedly find each other like it's fate. They embark on a fake marriage so Lily can claim what is rightfully hers, but the fake starts to feel real as they pretend to be a family. Both of them liking the way it feels...even though they live 3 hours apart. I Love Eliot, he was so caring and loving towards Lily's children, he struggled with his own emotional angst and he made me sad sometimes because of the way he found it hard to be happy. He sacrificed himself for others all the time and I was so glad that he found his own happiness with Lily. The chemistry between them is so potent but the marriage is only temporary, what will happen when the year is over and they go their separate ways. When they have both fallen hard and fast for each other. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, it is such an epic ending to the series and I am so sad that it has come to the end..I will miss the Knights. Marie Johnston has written a perfect romance to get lost in, and I relished every page. Brilliant. 5 Stars.- Cat W.
Eliot Knight is not a man who wants to settle down and raise a family while he runs his family’s ranch that he inherited from his parents. He is very close to his siblings but still feels an overwhelming responsibility to keep things going with the ranch and doesn’t want to burden any of them with what he is going through.
Lily Duke is struggling to make ends meet when she gets a job in a veterinarian clinic and moves to her grandma’s place that she is set to inherit. Yet when her aunt informs her that she needs to be married in order to keep the house she inadvertently blurts out that she is engaged to Eliot Knight.
Lily needs to be married for at least a year to keep the house but with Eliot living in another town will they be able to keep the charade up? As Lily soon sees a different side of Eliot will she be able to keep her heart safe?
This was a good book and I enjoyed it.
I thought Eliot was a good character who was strong in his morals and very helpful towards his siblings but he also didn’t want to put anything extra on any of them for anything he faced at the ranch. He worked hard and felt like he had to do as much as he could to prove himself. I liked him and you could tell he was a man of his word as well.
My heart broke for Lily with everything she had gone through in the past and how she was struggling to get on with her life as a single mom when everything blows up in front of her. She knows it’s likely she is going to have to move back in with her parents unless she can find a groom immediately. She panics and of course a name surprisingly comes out.
There was an immediate attraction between Eliot and Lily but both had their hands full with their own lives and Eliot was not interested in a family of his own at all. I liked how things progressed between the two of them and it was a good slow burn which was nice.
There was a really good balance of real life, humor and family in the book to keep you wondering what was going to happen and how it would all work.
Looking forward to more in this series!- Rebecca
I really enjoyed reading Eliot and Lily's story. I love a good fake romance story and when you add in the small town and single mom you get a whole lot of drama to keep you on the edge of your seat. Lily's life is a mess and she is doing her best to hold everything together for her 2 kids. When she meets Eliot, her boss's handsome has hell brother in-law, in a moment of chaos she thinks that she is for sure getting ready to be fired. Eliot has no time for life away from the ranch he runs for his family. Meeting Lily and getting married was never on his radar. This book really did pull me in right away. The writing was wonderful and I really felt for these characters. Can they survive this year long fake marriage with their hearts intact at the end? Is the distance between them too much to overcome? You will want to one click this ASAP to find out. 4 stars- By Alisa
This story was so sweet, I have had a soft spot for single parent romances lately. The kiddos are just so dang cute. Elliot was a perfect grumpy rancher and Lily was a hot mess, but in the way that all of us moms are, we are out there doing the damn thing to the best of our ability.
This book was the perfect conclusion to the Knight family and the perfect lead in to the Duke's. I am beyond excited for their books.
Lily is newly divorced and a single mom to two kiddos, one of them being a newborn and the other the daughter she adopted from her ex-husbands first marriage. There is some mention of spousal abuse and manipulation so if you are sensitive to that, just know that it is off page and only briefly mentioned for context to Lily's character. Lily's grandma left her the house on 40 acres and it couldn't have happened at a better time as she just got a job as a vet tech nearby working for Sutton Knight, whom we've met before in this series. Except she finds out it's not as simple as moving in. There are rules and she's going to need reinforcements.
Elliot, the rancher of the family who we have seen at family events in the other book has a run in with Lily and her children at Sutton's clinic and from then on, he can't get her out of his head. He has a difficult childhood and struggles with the neglect and emotional abuse and abandonment he suffered and therefore does not ever want to get married. Unless its fake. And only to help out a newly single mom. And he definitely isn't going to catch feelings.
"Trust Me, Lily. I don't know, what you looked like when you were pregnant, or before but nothing got ruined."
The way that Elliot shows up for Lily and her children should be the standard to which all men and certainly step dads are held too. Of course the Knight siblings show up in full force, ready to help in whatever way they can. We are introduced to the Duke family and I have to say that I am so excited to read each of their books, with the vibrant personalities that were showcased in this book.
Overall, if you think you might like these tropes👇🏽, even just a little, give this book and series a try! You won't be disappointed.

“You were just a really hot apparition I embarrassed myself in front of.” Lily to Eliot
Marie Johnston has done it again. She’s written a beautiful exploration of family, self discovery, and (of course) love. The last of the Knight siblings to fall in love, Eliot Knight might be my favorite Knight. He is the hot cowboy. The youngest brother. Stoic and giving yet isolated from family and love through his deep-seated sense of duty and misplaced self-doubt.
And Lily Duke is the perfect female protagonist for Eliot. Reeling from a divorce, this single mom is trying to create a safe home for her kids while she grapples with the role her family should play in her life and tries to re-become herself. She is strong and loving, she never backs down and is ready to create the world she wants for her kids.
Watching Eliot and Lily meet and help each other find their best selves is a beautiful experience. Marie Johnston continues to amaze me with her ability to vividly build the world of Crocus Valley, Coal Haven, and the farms and ranches in between. I feel as though I know the Knight family, and scenes with all the siblings and their spouses and kids felt like being at the family picnic. Joyful and noisy and bursting with good food and love. And now we have the Duke family! We are introduced to Lily’s brothers and sisters and I look forward to reading more about them, knowing we will see all the Knights again.
“You made it easy to fall in love with you, but you made it hurt to stay in love with you.” Lily to Eliot
Marie Johnston’s books make me wish I had 4 more siblings and raucous family gatherings. They make me introspective in the best ways, choked up in the best ways, and leave me feeling wrapped in a good hug from a hot cowboy. Her characters are full and complex and more than their log-line descriptions. The world of the Knights, Barrons, Kings, and now Dukes is rich and layered and so vivid I feel as though I have actually been there and walked the streets.
Read these books. They are stand alone but I find reading them in order better because then I know the backstories of everyone involved.
“I really liked when you asked if I wanted cheese on my burger.” Lily to Eliot
I never expected to fall in love with Crocus Valley, North Dakota or the Knight family, but I did. Therefore, this book was a little bittersweet for me as Eliot is the last Knight sibling to find his person. I have simply ADORED the Knight family. This family was lost and there was so much damage done by their parents I wasn’t sure how they would fare. But I should not have worried because Marie and this Knight crew pulled together and became the family we would all love to be a part of. We really didn’t get to know Eliot much in previous books, but he is such a softie and has such a big heart. He manned the ranch back in Montana and took care of things so his siblings could find their happiness in Crocus Valley. I really feel like Eliot had a lot of emotions and pent up angst from his childhood. He took on keeping the ranch so his siblings could get away, but he stayed and longed for the visits with the other Knights. Until he meets Lilly, the new in town single mom that works at the vet clinic. Lilly sure has a lot on her plate being a single mom to a baby and toddler along with working full time at the vet clinic. I was just exhausted reading all that she did! And friends Marie did not sugar coat motherhood with a new baby and toddler, BUT really highlighted some of the best parts, too! Her toddler, Cali, sure light up the page and I quickly became a fan! Lilly is down on her luck and really hates to ask for help; so she doesn’t. But Eliot sees right through it very quickly and when the two marry so Lilly can keep her house I squealed in delight because marriage of convenience is my absolute favorite. While Eliot and Lilly might be almost strangers they clearly have a pull towards one another and they quickly become close friends and more. These two have amazing chemistry and banter and lit the pages on fire. If you love small towns, meddling family, sibling banter and a little chaos for good measure this definitely needs to be on your kindle ASAP! To say I am looking forward to what Marie has in store for us next is a huge understatement….the Duke family tease was so great and the wait is going to be so worth it!
Tropes: 🔥Small Town 🔥Marriage of Convenience 🔥Boss’s brother 🔥Single Mom 🔥"My Wife"
I have loved the Oil Knights Series from the very beginning. I couldn't help myself when I originally got my eyes on the third installment in the series, An Unfinished Memory, I fell face first and didn't want to come back to reality. After that I ran back to get to the first book and devoured A Reckless Memory, A Temporary Memory, then A Fearless Memory. With each book I have fallen even further down the Knight family hole even further.
The last brother standing was Eliot, everyone joked in the books that he wouldn't ever get married, because he was married to the ranch. He didn't see the prospects in Buffalo Gully that others saw, until he was visiting Sawyer in her vet clinic. Then Lily appeared, with a milk stain on her t shirt in a place he wasn't quite sure if it was polite to tell a nursing mama of a newborn and little girl.
Eliot had no clue what he walked in on when he heard his name spoken from Lily's mouth and marriage. But he was willing to go with it to help her out. She was a single mom and he knew she needed all the help she could get. But boy did he get the bargain of a lifetime!
Lily is a single mom of two beautiful children who was newly divorced, newly employed and had just moved into her grandmother's home after she passed away. As if life hadn't dealt her enough crappy cards, it decided to throw her one more just for funsies. She had to be married for a year to completely inherit her grandmother's home.
Lily had such a great heart and honestly saw the best in most people. She felt as if she could depend on people to do right by her because she would do right by everyone. Unfortunately, that didn't always happen for her. She wanted to prove herself with both of her kids that she could stand on her own two feet, despite what others had said to her in the past. But she let it slip that one person was going to be her groom when she hadnt really had more than a couple of conversations with him.
Once Lily was able to see Eliot for who he was she was able to truly love him for the person he was. She was able to let her walls down and show him who she truly was beyond the great mom she was to her two adorable kids. I absolutely loved who Eliot was with Cali and Kellan, he loved those kids like they were his own. He never treated them as if they were someone else's kids. I loved how he made sure that they were always included in everything. Cali took to him like no other. Kids know people a lot better than people give them credit for. And if a kid likes an adult that much then it says a lot about their character.
I loved who these two were together but I loved who they were as a family the most. I couldn't get over how precious they were once they were finally able to make it work to their advantage.
Let's Talk About 🥵🥵🥵 Baby : 🌶️🌶️.5/5
🌶️🌶️🌶️ STEAMY- If it's not for you- Skip Through
These two had to get inventive being long distance and having two small children. There wasn't as much content as there has been in previous books but what was in here was premium content.
I absolutely loved this series and this book and can't wait to see where Marie goes from here!!
A fantastic edition to this series and a wonderful ending to it too. I LOved it. Marie Johnston has written a perfect romance to get lost in,and I relished every page. Brilliant. 5 Stars.
4.75 stars. Eliot, the male lead, has been left with the management of the family’s ranching operations by his siblings and the terms of his deceased, abusive father’s trust. Believing his deceased abusive mother’s claims that males force their decisions on women, he’s determined not to be like that. Then he hears Lily claim him as her fiancé.
Lily, the female lead, is a divorced sole custodial parent because her manipulative ex left her with nothing if she wanted her children. She’s living in her deceased grandmother’s house because her grandmother told her it would be hers. Then her aunt tells her that the terms of inheritance include being married… Desperate, Lily claims Eliot as her fiancé, never expecting him to stand by a stranger’s claim.
Getting married is easy, pretending to live kind of together is manageable, but the agreement was they’d divorce once Lily’s inheritance was settled and the emotions they’re starting to feel run counter to this premise. But Eliot is sure he’s still a bad deal…
This story is dual POV, well written, and the finale of the fantastic contemporary small town, family romance series, which also sets up the author’s next series in Lily’s family’s obligations. I enjoyed Eliot’s dutiful commitment that became more and left him befuddled. I enjoyed Lily’s personal development, away from her ex’s shadow, and her comfort and confidence in herself, her capabilities, and her support network. I enjoyed the relationship development and slowly growing intimacies. I enjoyed the steam when the characters managed to get together. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters, and seeing Eliot’s family’s ongoing happiness. I enjoyed meeting Lily’s family and am looking forward to their stories!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

I have long awaited Eliot's book and was filled with two main emotions for this book joy and sadness, Joy to read eliot's book and sadness as it is the end of the Oil Knights series, but hopefully not the end we see of the knight family. ;)
Rating: 4.5 stars Spice rating: 2 Chilli peppers
My Fave Tropes : -Marriage of Convenience 'with benefits' -refinding family ( how the knight siblings have reestablished their relationship throughout this series) -single mom -introducing the characters from the next series (not really a trope but loved how the author did this especially as it links to another series they wrote in this universe)
Review: -i really enjoyed Lily and Eliot lust at first sight interaction and how their is a build up to the marriage of convenience and Eliot overhearing Lily say he is her boyfriend (the start of the MOC Plot)
-I loved Chambers and Eliot talking together and having a fatherly-son moments and how he pushes Eliot not to give everything to the ranch (per his fathers wishes).
-Loved Lily's Siblings especially Jasper and Violet, given how they are not so close now but are starting to reconnect.
-Eliot interacting with Lily's children just makes my heart melt, even with the MOC, he doesn't ignore them and they play a part in their story.
-The Spicy times were hot (but wish they were hotter)
- Boo Carter and Boo Willis
Final thoughts: Oil Knights was the first series i read by this author and i have loved each and everyone of them and how they all have their own story even if tropes may align similarly, highly recommended.
I can not wait to see what is in store for the rest of this universe, and how a certain Aunt and Uncle are shown

Marie Johnston has done it again with An Endless Memory, delivering a heartwarming, single mom, marriage of convenience romance that had me hooked from start to finish.Lily, a devoted mother trying to navigate life’s challenges, finds herself in a bind with an inheritance that’s slipping through her fingers. To secure a home for her two kids and keep her new job, she blurts out a desperate lie: she’s engaged to Eliot Knight. But here’s the kicker—Eliot, the charming and oh-so-handsome brother of her boss, hears everything. And instead of running for the hills, he agrees to help her out, leading to a whirlwind marriage neither of them expected. What I loved most about this story is how the relationship between Lily and Eliot evolves. Initially, it’s all about convenience—just a year together to meet the inheritance conditions. But as circumstances keep throwing them together, their bond deepens in ways that neither anticipated. Eliot’s protective nature and Lily’s vulnerability create a beautiful dynamic that’s both tender and real. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the way Eliot calls Lily “my wife” for the first time? Heart-melting.The emotions in this book are raw and relatable, especially as Lily wrestles with her growing feelings for Eliot. She’s terrified that at the end of the year, she’ll be left with nothing but memories—endless memories of a man she’s fallen for, but who might not stay.Marie Johnston has crafted a story that’s not just about love, but about family, sacrifice, and the lengths we go to for those we care about. An Endless Memory is a must-read for anyone who loves a romance that tugs at the heartstrings and leaves you believing in second chances. Don’t miss out on this one!
In a moment of desperation Lily uttered his name, the fact that they were engaged, and now she must make good on the statement. But how? They've never dated, never kissed, and he definitely never asked her to marry him. She knows the bind she is in will only get easier if she presents a husband to her aunt, but there is now way that Eliot Knight would ever agree to marry a woman like her... or would he?
An Endless Memory is a perfectly penned love story about two people who are brought together by false pretenses, but quickly find that there is nothing fake about what is happening between them. In a moment of desperation Lily declares that she is getting married to Eliot, only for the sake of getting her bothersome aunt off of her back, never planning to follow through with it. But then it happens... Eliot unexpectedly makes her an offer she cannot refuse. He agrees to marry her to help her keep her home and says that they can stay in their respective homes and do what's needed to keep up with appearances, then in a year it'll all be over. But with frequent heated interactions, constant sparks, and an undeniable attraction these two start to wonder if they really want to part ways when the year comes to an end!
I loved what I found between the pages here, these two really put on a show, they had me captivated and fully invested the whole way through. Their love story was sweet, emotional, and so good on my heart! I loved every minute of it!! Highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
I loved this story and felt like both Eliot and Lily were so perfect together! Lily the FMC recently started a new job as a vet assistant. She’s left her ex and has two kids, one that biologically isn’t even hers, the child belongs to her ex but he abandoned her and you can see how deeply Lily cares for her. Lily is also a new mom to a baby so she's got a lot going on. She's living in the home she inherited but soon she finds out from her aunt that she can’t stay there unless she’s married. Although Lily decides she will just have to change her whole life again she accidentally blurts out her boss’s brother's name, Elliot (the MMC) as the person she will be marrying to get some extra time to pack up their stuff. However, Elliot's family is used to dealing with complicated and manipulative wills since he’s stuck breeding horses on his farm 3 hours away from his family (and Lily). So, Elliot agrees to marry her but as they spend more time together and act as a married couple, lines start to blur for them, but they still live hours away from each other. Elliot was literally the perfect husband and dad always there for her and you could tell he was so excited to see the kids and Lily. Lily had been burned before but I loved that she took a chance on him. I also really loved everyone’s families and how supportive and caring they were. Totally loved this book and I'm going to need to read the previous books that were part of this series! (FYI they are standalones but I loved all the characters so much!)
Why you will love this book: 🔥Small Town 🔥Marriage of Convenience 🔥Boss’s brother 🔥Single Mom 🔥"My Wife"
The last Knight brother falls and Eliot's story was everything I was hoping it would be for him. He's bared the burdens of his family history and the dynamics of their trust while he felt that his siblings were all getting to live the lives they were destined for.
Lily is a single mom, fresh of divorce, thinking she was moving to a new town, claiming her land and house that was left to her, and starting a new life. Only she learns there's stipulations for her keeping the house and land, namely her being married, and quickly.
What's she do when her aunt shows up? Blurts the name of the hot cowboy that's been on her mind and declares they're getting married. Eliot being the man he is agrees to her plan and marries her. They only have to be married a year for Lily to keep her inheritance so they both think "no big deal."
Only they start to connect on a deeper level and he falls in love with Lily's kids. Lily finds herself falling in love with her fake husband. He's always there when she needs him and takes such good care of her and the kids.
Eliot can't get the words from his mom out of his head that he'll only hurt any woman he loves so he convinces himself that he needs to put distance between himself and Lily, breaking both their hearts.
Lily wants more, Eliot is scared. What happens when she decides she can't continue with their fake marriage?
Marie Johnston delivered the perfect ending to the Oil Knights series and hinted a new series to come...with the Duke siblings maybe? There's a whole lot to unpack with their family dynamics and the trust their futures are all tied up in.
Can't wait to see what Marie Johnston has in store for us next!
I am so pleased that Eliot’s story was so amazing, and he found Lily – the one person in the world who would get him perfectly. Lily has escaped a psychologically abusive marriage with two children she adores and a ton of insecurity, mostly about asking for help. Eliot is the brother who stayed behind to run the ranch so his siblings could have the lives they deserve, but always with his mother’s voice in the back of his head reminding him that men are poison. He has tried so hard for his 40 years to not be like that, while assuming he would have to give up everything for his family. And his family calls him the grumpy one. Swoon!
Add in dueling legacies – Lily’s grandmother apparently heard about the King boys’ inheritance stipulations and decided that would be awesome, so now Lily has to get married and stay that way for a year to keep the house she’s living in with the children. That’s kind of a neat twist, since Eliot has suffered from the effects of Barns’ stipulations for several years now. Thankfully, Grandma Duke’s legacy was much better intentioned, and with a gentle shove from fate, Lily and Eliot set up housekeeping.
There is everything to love – a man who is tender with children and pets, a woman who wants to stop relying on others but is coming to realize community isn’t a crutch, it’s a privilege. Two lovely children and a goofy dog named Bug complete the picture, in addition to Eliot’s family and a whole lot of Duke siblings who will have to find their own happy endings. This is an entry point to a new series, but it also wraps up the Knights absolutely perfectly.
I recently finished An Endless Memory, and I must say, it was a delightful experience that kept me engaged from start to finish. This book is part of the Oil Knights series, and it beautifully blends romance with a hint of intrigue.
The story revolves around a unique premise: the protagonist finds herself in a tight spot, faced with the choice of moving out or marrying her boss, Eliot Knight. This setup created a delightful tension that had me turning pages eagerly to see how it would unfold.
One of the standout aspects for me was Johnston's character development. The characters felt incredibly relatable and complex, and their chemistry was undeniable. I loved how the dynamic between the main characters was both steamy and heartfelt, showcasing Johnston’s talent for weaving emotional depth into her narratives. Plus, the humor sprinkled throughout added a lightness that balanced the more serious themes of trust and commitment.
While I enjoyed the plot, I did find some elements to be a bit predictable, which is something I often encounter in romance novels. However, Johnston's writing style is so smooth and inviting that I found it easy to overlook any clichés. The pacing was well-structured, allowing for character growth and plot progression without feeling rushed.
Overall, I would give An Endless Memory a solid four-star rating. It’s a charming read for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. With its engaging characters, witty dialogue, and a satisfying blend of drama and romance, I believe Marie Johnston has delivered another winner in the genre. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
An Endless Memory is the fifth and final book in the Oil Knights series featuring Eliot Knight & Lilly Duke.
Fresh off a divorce and a single mom to 2, Lily finds herself living in the house her grandmother left to her when she passed away near Crocus Valley. She started a job working as a tech at Sutton Knights vet clinic and while working one weekend she has a run in with Suttons brother in law Eliot.
Eliot doesn’t live in Crocus Valley but since all 4 of siblings and their families do, he tries to make it often to visit. After meeting lily a few times at various events he overhears her telling her aunt that she’s marrying Eliot Knight and his world is flipped upside down.
Turns out Lilys grandmother included in her will that in order to take procession of the house she had to be married and living in it for 1 whole year with her spouse and that her aunt and father would have to sign off on it.
Determined to help Lily, Eliot agrees and the two have a quick courthouse wedding. Eliot must return to his life in Buffalo Gully and can only make trips every so often due to running the family business.
When Eliot and Lily begin to explore other avenues of their relationship and Lily begins to develop real feelings for him, will Eliot allow old harsh words destroy everything or will they become an Endless Memory ?
I ADORED this book and this series, I’m sad that it is over but with the introduction of Lily’s siblings and the new series on the horizon, I can’t wait to see what comes next !
Thank you Marie for the ARC opportunity! If you haven’t started this series yet you should add it to your TBR !
An Endless Memory (Oil Knights Book 5) by Marie Johnston ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
An Endless Memory is a single mom, marriage of convenience romance. This is the fifth book in the Oil Knights Book Series, this also tells the story of Lily and Eliot. I was hooked when I first read this book about a cowboy and arranged marriage (favorite trope ever), but then I read the first few chapters and I was goner. This was such a pleasant read, I love the funny and witty banter between Lily and Eliot, their chemistry was off the charts. But most importantly I love how well Marie constructed the relationship between Eliot and the kids. Cali is my spirit animal!!! I fell so hard for that little girl, just like Eliot did. Long live the boss lady !!! Marie blew it out of the park with this well written story, full of amazing characters and a plot to fall in love with. Definitely a must read book, there’s nothing like a happy ending with hunky cowboy.

What a wonderful ending to this series and I can’t wait for the next series! “An Endless Memory” is a heartfelt, emotional and romantic single mom/marriage of convenience romance that was a great addition to the series.
Lily is a single mom to two children after leaving her cheating ex who also tried to hold her back from her full potential. A house that was owned by her grandmother brought her to a new town and when she thought the house would be hers, a stipulation was left. She had to be married for a year. In a panic, she says that Eliot Knight is her fiance. Eliot is always the first to do whatever he needs to do to help family or friends and without hesitation, agrees to help Lily. Eliot has never been one for commitment but as he spends time with Lily and her kids, he’s seeing life and Lily in a different life.
I loved Lily and Eliot together so much. Lily has the biggest heart and that shows by how much she loves her children and how she cares for animals. The way her ex treated her was terrible and finding Eliot was what she needed. I hated the stipulation her grandmother put on the house but it did lead her to finding her happiness. Eliot is the best kind of guy and I loved how he would do anything for his family and friends. His heart is big even if he wanted to keep it protected from breaking. These two had to work hard to make this situationship work and they both put in the effort to make it work. I loved their connection and it only grew as the story went on. And my heart was so happy as Eliot fell in love with Lily’s kids. He was made to be a dad and a caregiver. The ending was incredibly sweet and wrapped up their story perfectly.
