Shiba Inu Rooms is one of those rare manga that can make you laugh out loud on one page and quietly tug at your heart on the next. The writing balances sharp comedy with surprisingly tender, emotional moments. The shifts never feel forced. Instead, the humor makes the heartfelt scenes land even harder.
The premise itself is wonderfully unique. An apartment complex filled with distinct residents, centered around the daily life of Kori, a high school student, and a Shiba Inu, feels simple at first glance. Yet that simplicity becomes the story’s strength. You begin to feel as though you have moved into the building yourself, observing the small routines, misunderstandings, and connections that slowly form between neighbors.
The main dog initially comes across as rude, chaotic, and completely unfiltered. His wild energy and blunt behavior create much of the comedy. But it does not take long to grow attached to him. Beneath the antics is vulnerability and personality that make him feel real rather than just a gag character.
Shiba Inu Rooms turns an unconventional concept into something warm and memorable. It captures the charm of everyday life while proving that even the most mischievous resident can steal your heart.

This book was adorable. The fact that the whole building has a bunch of shiba inus that cannot pass on in life is sad and charming at the same time. I am so glad that these dogs are getting a lot more love in the afterlife.
The story centers around Kori, a high school student who recently transferred away from her previous school. She manages to find a cheap place to rent, but there is an added bonus in her room - a shiba inu ghost, Mu. Kori originally did not want to rent the room as she previously had a slight problem with dogs, which led to her move. However, after hearing that you could make the dogs "ascend" easily, she decides to settle in. Little does she know that this starts the adventure of becoming a dog owner.
The backstory of these dog ghosts may be quite sad and some people may be triggered by it. However, after getting through that first portion, I was basically laughing or smiling while reading. Mu starts off quite hostile, but eventually the author exposes what caused his hostility. I love how Kori and Mu slowly bond. The little details in the manga really shows what a long way the two have come.

The ultimate reading slump cure: lighthearted, heartwarming, and dangerously cute.

After being stuck in a reading slump for weeks, Shiba Inu Rooms Vol. 1 was exactly the pick-me-up I needed. Renting a super cheap apartment because it happens to be haunted by a ghost Shiba Inu is such a charming concept, and it completely delivers.
Mu and the rest of the cast make this such a light, fun, and utterly adorable read: a cozy, laugh-out-loud manga that proves everything is better with a ghost dog! Now the agonizing wait for the next translated volumes begins.

So I had to sign up for a free trial of Shonen Jump to read the first volume of a manga that my library is missing (despite having the next 30 volumes), but the perk of this situation is that I stumbled upon THIS series, which is so adorable and hilarious. I generally don't fall for the pandering sweetness of pet-themed manga, but this one? I'm obsessed. If these ever get printed in English, I will buy the fuck out of them...

A nice apartment with great low rent and it’s haunted by Shiba Inus. Where do I sign up? Each of the apartments has their own shiba ghost. Kori is a funny Tsundere main character, and the fact that the other main character Mu the Shiba also is Tsundere, they are made for each other. Love how each of the characters and their ghost dogs reflect on each personality. I think I have finally found the dog manga I have been wanting.

Finally a graphic novel/manga where the characters don't make their full character arch in one volume! Mu stays grumpy and suspicious. Kori stays cold and still has trouble with social interactions. Both are making progress, but the progress isn't overnight, which is believable and a nice change of pace.
Absolutely sign me up to live in an apartment haunted by ghost dogs!

Finally a pet manga for the dog people out there. The bits in this slice of life had me rolling and laughing in public. The story behind the dogs being goobers of course is bitter sweet and same with our main character Kori.

One of the best manga currently releasing on the Shonen Jump app, hands down. Absolutely hilarious, and weirdly accurate given I’m seeing quite a lot of behaviours that my Shiba cross exhibits. Lots of tender moments too 🥺

I thought this was a very cute manga with some touching moments, too! I loved the artwork, especially how expressive Mu is on every page. It has left me interested in wanting to know what happens next to Kori. I would recommend this to readers wanting a heartwarming story filled with shiba ghosts!

When I saw a Shiba on the cover I knew I had to read this. And it did not disappoint! It’s very cute and charming. The illustrations really capture the Shiba charm. As the other issues get translated to English I will continue to read them!

En voilà une belle découverte… et clairement, je comprends le succès au Japon !
Le ton est donné très rapidement : Kôri trouve un appartement à un prix imbattable… genre “trop beau pour être vrai”. Et forcément, il y a un hic : l’immeuble est hanté. Pas par n’importe quoi… mais par des fantômes de Shiba Inu 🐕👻
Franchement, difficile de faire plus original.
Kôri se retrouve donc en colocation avec Muu, un Shiba fantôme pas franchement accueillant au premier abord. Et pourtant… derrière ce caractère bien trempé, on découvre rapidement une facette bien plus touchante.
Ce que j’ai vraiment aimé, c’est l’équilibre entre humour et émotions. Le manga est souvent très drôle (les réactions de Kôri et les situations absurdes m’ont bien fait rire), mais il aborde aussi des thèmes plus profonds, notamment autour de la solitude, des émotions qu’on n’arrive pas à exprimer, et même du passé de ces petits esprits.
La relation entre Kôri et Muu se construit petit à petit, avec beaucoup de douceur et quelques moments franchement attendrissants. On s’attache très vite à ce duo improbable.
Mention spéciale à Kazuko, la propriétaire, une petite mamie adorable qui apporte encore plus de chaleur et de bienveillance à l’histoire. Elle est vraiment trop chou 🥹
Côté dessin, c’est un pur plaisir. Les Shiba sont ultra mignons, expressifs à souhait, et on sent vraiment l’amour de l’autrice pour ces chiens à travers chaque planche.
