FIVE CAN'T BE RESISTED STARS.
"Tell me you want me so deep I might never find my way back out again."
Laura Kaye certainly knows how to deliver a quality novella, her writing style is one that engages her audience and leaves her readers desperate for more. 'Dare to resist' is no exception this book blew me away. From beginning to end I was glued to the pages and this short, sizzling story has only just further confirmed my love for the talented Laura Kaye. Those readers that already love the books under the brazen title are going to love the dirty talking and insanely gorgeous Colton Brooks, I can't wait for you all to meet him.
What's it all about?
One night together three years ago ended in Colton and Kady going their separate ways. They never expected to be close enough again to experience the undeniable attraction between them, but after a storm throws this couple together for one steamy night of temptation they both discover more than they ever dreamed of about their connection. Colton Brooks has never believed he is good enough for his best friends younger sister, as far as he is concerned she is firmly off limits. Kady Dresco has always had the biggest crush on the ex military officer and gorgeous Colton but she can never forget the night he rejected her attraction. Once again they find themselves faced with temptation and a decision to discover how they really feel for each other.
What did I love?
You may think I'm crazy for giving a book that is less than two hundred pages a five star rating, but I can say with confidence that this author writes amazing stories that are fantastic and grab me right from the start. This short story has a brilliant mix of romance, heart pounding sexual tension, seduction and more deliciously dirty sex scenes than I knew what to do with. One things for certain I will not be forgetting the gorgeous Colton brooks, what he wasn't able to finish with his tongue or hands he was more than able to take over with his dirty talking mouth. I really loved the sarcasm, wit and clever banter between the couple and the romance was heart warming. Both characters had me smiling at my kindle like a crazed book addict and I was flicking through my kindle desperate to find out where the story would take me to next. I adored everything about this novella from the loveable characters to the off the charts sexiness to the love and romance, this book was the perfect reading get away and I'm once again in love with a Laura Kaye release.
Final thoughts ...
This gorgeous novella is a clever introduction to what I know will be an amazing brazen series collection. Laura Kaye is one of my favourite brazen authors and she has created another fantastic story that made me smile, swoon and sweat in equal measure. 4.5 Dirty Talk Overload stars
It's not often I'd rate a novella more than 4 stars. No really. It isn't. True story. The biggest reason is I always have a hard time connecting to the story and the characters in just a few pages. The fact that this book managed to do just that AND leave me panting and salivating for the rest of the series? Well that my friends is a book worthy of 4.5 stars.
So let's see, this book had:
Great story
If there's anything I love more than a friends to lovers trope, it's the brother's best friend falls for younger sister. Yep. Always does it for me. Kady and Colton basically grew up together since Colton was her brother's best friend. But he was also 6 years her senior, and off limits. Well...that is until he went off to the army and came back when Kady was 23 years old. So they finally gave in to the explosive chemistry between them...only for Colton to cut things off abruptly before things got REALLY good. He had his reasons, but Kady doesn't need to know them. Now 3 years have gone by and the way they deal with that night? Well, Colton has one way of making it work
I'd have to agree with you there, Colton. Those barbs and insults were pretty much laden in sexual tension and innuendos
Plus I loved that Kady could dish it as well as take it. She had a bit of sass to her that I really liked.

5 can I get more of this STARS
Here is a sentence I've been waiting my whole life to hear. Seriously. I am in a happy and stable relationship but I would lie if I said I wouldn't fall for that one. LOL. And I'm sure you my dear friends and followers, as avid romance and erotica readers (and I assume that is what you are...otherwise what the fuck are you doing here reading this), can appreciate just how bloody brilliant that quote is.
So, I think I found my favourite romance cliché...being trapped in a hotel room with the man of your dreams and no escape. All kinds of yummy things can happen in small spaces and bad weather. To say I liked this book is the understatement of the century...I actually already re-read it. Mmmmmmh. It was that kind of awesome for me. Yup.
So, back to Kady and Colton. They happen to be competing for this super awesome military security services contract, and as the god of book plot twists demands they find themselves trapped by bad weather in a shitty hotel room in the middle of nowhere and there isn't really anything to do; except maybe witty banter, dealing with some long lasting issues, fighting their insane chemistry and while they're at it maybe they have time to reconsider the role of kink in their lives.
I'm sold!
But let's rewind a little, shall we?
Kady Dresco has had a thing for Colton Brooks for a long time now. He is not only insanely attractive, but also kind of nerdy, just like her and then there was this little incident three years ago. A hot and heavy encounter ended with a very satisfied Kady, which is something of novelty. Usually men don't manage to get her off and as luck would have it the one that manages is complicated and kind of off limits and he pretty much ran away after. Ugh. Girlfriend has bad karma or something.
Problem is, Mister Orgasm is her brother’s best friend, he has a tendency to pull away and it turns out Colton believes he isn't good enough for the girl and on top of that he has some interesting sexual preferences, and he is certain Kady would never submit to the kinds of things he likes.
Aren't they just lucky for missing their plane and being stuck after their presentations were finished? So much time to deal with...stuff. Recipe for awesomeness.
If you want to find out how a little book changes everything between them, you have to pick this one up!!
Dare to Resist was an all around satisfying read for me. It was my first read by Laura Kaye and I most certainly want to see more after this one. I loved the writing, the pace and the characters, even though it was a short read. And don't even get me started on the sexy times. :D

Kady had a thing for Colton all her life. The problem? He’s her older brother best friend and never saw in her nothing more than a little girl. Until one night changes it all and Colton leaves, not knowing how to deal with that, opening an awkwardness between them that they igore by endlessly teasing each other.
Now, three years later, they are fighting professionally for the same contract and for some ungodly reasons (fate, perhaps?) end up sharing the same hotel room.
And well, one night… one book will change it all. Yes, one book. This is the power of books people!! And when everything finally changes? Well, let me just tell you:
But living in different cities, with different lives, how will they ever make it work? Could love be really enough to overcome all obstacles?
Rating: 4 Stars!
Storyline: What a sweet and hot prequel. And the nicest of it? This is a short-story introducing a whole series, so you’ll have a lot books happening during their wedding. And that is so awesome!
Writing Style: Third person, dual POV. Fast-paced, hot, engaging.
Character Development: I loved the initial banter between those two. And despite hating the initial lack of communication between them, I loved how sweet it all became after. Colton was a sexy alpha-male and Kady was pretty good either.

4 Best Friend's Sister, One Time Taste, Lifetime Desire Stars

Laura Kaye has a sly, sassy sense of fun... who else would have a plot point be the inside nod to another author's book? There have been tons of references to the reading of romance books in other stories... it is common and fun to see the characters we like are just like us. It is in passing or part of a character description... and then the rest of the tale moves on... but in this novella, this reading becomes a way for the characters to reveal who they are and it is a safe way of bringing up their desires and needs... Brilliant.
We have characters with the foundation of knowing each other for years. He is the best friend of her brother, she is 6 years younger than him but they have an early connection with all things computers, code writing, geek talk, etc. He teases her but respects her ability and mind. Yet, as she matures and becomes a woman, he is away, either at college or the Armed Services.
Finally, when there is the first recognition of him seeing her as a woman, not just the kid... things get hot, close, and then stopped before he gets too carried away. However, she was not the reason for stopping. She was there, in fact, he got her crazed twice and she was ready for the main event... No, he stopped because it dawned on him who and what was happening and how he was just not the man for her. She deserved better, more traditional, more cookie-cutter perfection... not him.
Time passes... She feels hurt and never understands what happened... Oh, the cruel comments he used to make, to make sure she wouldn't think of him, didn't stop her from using him for her nightly thoughts... Because even after her being active with others... He Was The Only One... The only one who made it all work...
They remained "friends" as work and professional business brought them together all the time. The Security Programming Computer world is small at the top. She has worked hard to keep her rep clean and focused only on showing all she had the goods from her brain and ability not her body as the guys liked to claim when they would lose a contract to her.
With this as the back story, we see both of these characters competing for a huge Government contract in a highly secret compound. They have just finished their presentations and are ready to be transported to the airport but Mother Nature has another idea... it is like a monsoon out there and the airport, roads everything is shutdown. They will have to stay overnight in a dumpy little motel. None of the high-level accommodations have been built for this new facility.
As they get their separate rooms, hers is leaking like a sieve, it is as if it is raining in the room. She goes back with him to the office to get another room and, you guessed it... there isn't another one... so they are forced to share...
They both are on pins and needles... and have been since seeing each other at the presentations... Their time together plays in both of their heads, on a repeat loop. The only difference is what the self-talk is...
She, never being able to understand the shut down by him...
He, knowing he wants her... but he is who he is and doing it the way he likes, no needs, is not for her. He thinks she is hearts and flowers and deserves all things pretty and tied up with bows.
So they have a truce...eat, watch TV and Movies... connecting as they always did as friends and everything just feels so good between them. She falls asleep and he frustrated with wanting what he thinks he can't have. He moves off the bed they were watching the movies on and trips. As he rights himself, he sees he dropped her computer bag and is picking it up and putting everything back in the bag. The paperback book in his hand catches his eye. He is stunned by how worn and dogged eared it is...it is an eye-opener and he can't help but start to read.
This is what she likes????...This.Is.Him.... His head is reeling.....
This is a fast, smart read and everything you could ever want in a novella is there. By making them have a history for years, there is no mistake in their attraction and love for each other. The way the concept of people never actually seeing you for who you are is discussed intelligently. It is something that can be a common mistake between people who have known each other for a long time.
The author also presents the understanding of two people who were a perfect match in what they liked in bed... no shame, no playing... a straight talk about how this is who he is and how he is wired... Needless to say... the book is so hot... you may need to have fire retardant gloves to handle your reader...
Laura Kaye... I am ready for the upcoming goodies you have in the wings... have I mentioned how much I love smart and how sexy I think it is...well.. you qualify with this read...

4 - "Sunshine" & "Monsoon" Stars!
Laura Kaye is in my top 5 ‘go-to’ authors when it comes to reaching for a book that I know I will enjoy. I discovered her awesomeness though a novella, and Dare to Resist is another superb indication to just how much story this author can pack into such a small amount of words! Not to mention it is the prequel novella to the new Wedding Dare series releasing through Entangled Brazen in June, featuring some pretty exceptional authors, and what I am 100% sure will be absolutely brilliant books!
Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks have got history between them. Being her older brother Tyler’s best-friend, Kady is pretty sure that Colton has only ever seen her as someone to look out for and keep out of mischief, pretty much like her brother has done over the years. The snark and sarcasm between them in the beginning is pretty funny, and you know you are in for a good read, when you are smiling to yourself at their conversations.
Kady – He was beyond gorgeous when he wasn’t talking.
Apart from one night 3 years ago, when things took a step over to the non-friend zone, Colton has kept her firmly at arm’s length, but not necessarily for the same reasons Kady is imagining!
She couldn’t actually think of a time when Colton Brooks hadn’t owned a little piece of her heart.
After travelling to nowhersville, and bidding against each other for a lucrative military contract Kady and Colton end up stranded in a rundown Motel for the night due to a terrific storm causing all flights out of the area to be cancelled. After discovering her room has literally got a ‘waterfall’ leaking through the roof, and catching Colton’s colleague in a compromising position with his lap-top, some hand lotion and tissues, they decide they will have to share his room for one night.
”If you crack a joke right now I swear I will knee you in the junk.”
It’s not difficult to imagine what happens thereafter what with all the pent-up sexual tension between them, and Colton’s discovery that Kady isn’t quite as innocent as she seems... What did surprise me is Laura’s writing, Colton has a deliciously dirty mouth, and isn’t afraid to follow through with the action to back up his words...

This was my very first Brazen novella and I really enjoyed it!
It had one of the themes I love in a good story.
Having a CRUSH on your older brother's best friend, and getting a chance at true love with him.
Kady Dresco has been in love with Colton Brooks since she was a young girl.
But for a long time he only saw her as his buddy's cute little sister.
Until one night, three years ago, they have an encounter at his Welcome Home party when he returns from the Army.
Things were really heating up but Colton put the brakes on it quick.
Kady thinks it's because he still sees her as a kid, but he seems to believe that he's not good enough for her.
Oh, and there's something else that has him staying away, and you will find out a bit later.
Now, three years later, Kady and Colton are both away on business, bidding on a contract with the military.
They both work in computer programming.
There's an impending monsoon approaching the town they are in, which forces them to have to postpone their flights and stay at a local motel.
Circumstances arise that end up forcing Kady and Colton to have to share a room, which only has one bed.
Now, you know we are going to get some HOT SEXY TIME here!!
Well, Colton learns something new about Kady, which totally has him turned on beyond belief, and he ends up changing his tune about pursuing a relationship with her.
"Tell me you want me inside you, Kady. Tell me you want me so deep I might never find my way back out again."
That part of the story kind of made me say, "REALLY??!! This is what changes your mind buddy??!!!"
Well then the L-O-V-E word is just easily thrown out after that and I'm a bit shocked that was all it took. LOL
I really did enjoy the story though and that ONE sex scene was hot!!
I guess I was being greedy and wanted some more sweaty sex, but alas, we only got the one in this book.
It's probably hard to have TONS of sex in a short novella!!
This was book one to the "Wedding Dare" series.
There will be four more books out and the next book is due June 9th. :)

I loved this hot little novella. Kady was intelligent, sarcastic as hell and had all kinds of legitimate reasons for not trusting Colton. Yes, he was just trying to do the honorable thing by not doing aggressive and sexy things to his best friends sister, but he never considered girlfriend might like things a little...rough. My very favorite part of this quick read is that it sets up a series of stories written by different authors that should be sweet reads for the opposites attract, I want you but can't have you crowd. Can't wait!

Kady and Colton. Brothers best friend story. Now both stuck in a hotel when the monsoon hits, will they be able to resist each other?
These two were really cute together. I loved their bickering in the first half. My issue with this novella was Colton, I wasnt entirely convinced of him. It was like he had a split personality. Also the cheese at the end was a bit much for my taste but overall I enjoyed it.
If you loved Laura Kaye'sHeart in Darkness, I think you will enjoy this one. It was short no drama no angst just two people in a love/hate relationship finally giving in to their attraction.

Now they both working/fighting for the same contract.
Stuck in motel room together the chemistry sizzles with these two. Loved the witty banter. The innuendos. The realisation of what they want and can give each other.
Colton was delicious. Smart sexy and a dirty mouth. Kady was his equal in every way.
Laura Kaye has done it again. Loved this new Brazen addition.

I'm giving this one a flat 3.0 star rating, which means that I liked it but I probably won't read it again. I guess this is a case of "Oh, it's not you; it's me," because I really couldn't connect with any of the characters.
I found the heroine too... desperate? No, that's not it. Hmm. Too easy? Yeah, that's the word. You see, if I were Kady, I would have given Colton a damn hard time to get into my good graces again. Three years ago, Colton just stopped in the middle of some hot hanky-panky because he chickened out. He felt that Kady deserved better than him, and that being her brother's best friend, he shouldn't fuck her in a closed closet near the pool. Oh, you know, the usual brother's-best friend-and-little sister-drama.
So yeah, if a guy left me hanging like that, I would have moved on like:
But of course, Kady couldn't get over him. Of course, she couldn't find release with other guys after the incident. (Ugh, are you kidding me????) Of course, she all but vibrated with need whenever he got within a five mile radius from her. Of course. What was I thinking, right? Pfft. Moving on? Who does that? Ha.
So yeah, I didn't like how quickly she jumped on Colton. I didn't feel like he did enough to win her over . Colton also felt like he was putting up too many excuses not to be with her in the beginning. Plus, would it have killed him to talk things through with Kady three years ago? Ugh. Aaaaand there was a part where Colton mentioned doing it with another woman. Definitely didn't like that. But that's just me talking. *shrugs*
Overall, I still enjoyed reading this. Just not a fan of rough sex and light BD.

Colton was the only guy that Kady had ever wanted, but he was also the guy who denied her years later. He was also her brother's best friend. After a business trip and a rain storm they find themselves stuck together in a hotel room together. The sexual chemistry was building.
"White undershirt. Dark-framed glasses. Sneak peeks at black boxers. Really? How much more was a girl supposed to be able to take before she either spontaneously combusted or found a shower with a removable showerhead?"
After spending some time together Colton began to see Kady as more...
"Colton had looked at her differently. Like, for the first time in their lives, he actually saw her, and not just Tyler’s little sister. Her. Kady."
but he just couldn't give in to his desires.

After Kady fell asleep, Colton stumbled upon an erotic book that Kady carried with her. After reading it Colton couldn't believe it.
“The guy in your book? I’m that guy,”
“I’ve never done any of the stuff in that book,” she said, “But I want to. I’ve wanted to for a while.”
This novella packs a powerful punch, one that I thing most people will love. I'm very excited to read the rest of this "Wedding Dare" series.

I've read this book several times in recent years and never wrote a review.
Well, it was good. So damn good for a short story. Maybe that's why I keep returning to it every now and then.
Two strong characters and a lot of hidden attraction exploding during 24 hours of forced proximity after a storm. A very well written ravishment fantasy with tons of heat.
So yeah, it wasn't my last time with this one.

What a fantastic start to this new series..I totally devoured this book with no manners whatsoever!
Colton Brooks is an ex military man, now heading up his own military security services. The loyal, driven badass finds himself vying for a new contract up against his best friend's little sister, Kady Dresco, who he has known since they were very young.
Kady Dresco is a smart geek, who has every confidence that she will suck this contract right out from under Colton's nose. The snark and humour laced in every conversation, belies the underlying crush Kady has had on him since she was 11 years old. Being her brother's best friend and 6 years her senior, she has never felt Colton would take her seriously, either as an earnest work challenge, or a potential hook up.
Arriving in bad weather, they find themselves held up at the one local hotel, where circumstances cause them to come in very close proximity of each other.
I enjoyed almost everything about this novella; well the only dislike being that it was a novella. I wanted more, definitely more, quite categorically more..I wasn't ready to say goodbye to this couple.
Laura Kaye's writing had me hooked and most definitely hot! Colton's dominance made me weak at the knees, and underlined the fact that he is unequivocally on my BBF shelf!
Their wordplay foreplay was stimulating, their "incendiary chemistry" was striking, and Colton's hot mouth...no words, I'm speechless!
Don't you just love a good friends to lovers tale.

I really love that this novella is the kick start to a full consortium series, where each book in the series is written by a different author. I love when writers get together and collaborate - terrific things tend to happen when creative minds work in tandem.
Although it's a short read, it's a sweet and sexy one. I really felt like I'd read a full-length book.
The situation that our 2 main characters, Kady and Colton find themselves in - while totally unrealistic - was so much fun. I kept trying to predict when they were going to hook up, since it was so obviously inevitable.
Fun and romantic. I look forward to the rest of the series!

I literally could not put it down, & I read it straight through in one sitting. This book is undoubtedly my favorite in the entire Wedding Dare series, & Laura Kaye has definitely made her way onto my personal list of favorite authors. (FYI: The
only
other NA/Contemporary authors on my "Favorites List" are the brilliant writing duo of Christina & Lauren-- authors of the Beautiful Bastard & Wild Seasons series-- & Tiffany Reisz-- author of The Headmaster & Misbehaving). In the same vein as the aforementioned authors, Laura Kaye has a talent for creating very likable, realistic & noteworthy characters in an overly-saturated genre where cookie-cutter heroes & heroines (as well as predictable story arcs & cliches) are prevalent. Kaye's characters are also very relatable and unique-- they have distinct "voices," distinct sets of attributes & preferences, & distinct personality traits.
I first fell in love with Laura Kaye's writing when I read Hearts in Darkness last year. I connected with that novella's main characters-- McKenna & Caden-- on such a profound level... and to this day, it's a novella that I continue to revisit.
Although the hero & heroine in Dare to Resist (Colton & Kady) are vastly different from the characters of McKenna & Caden in nearly every way possible, I do believe that I love them just as much. Something about Colton & Kady's story resonated deeply within me, & their story will also be one that I'll continue to revisit periodically.
What do the authors Christina Lauren, Tiffany Reisz & Laura Kaye have in common? Well, first of all, they all write exceptionally well-- with sophistication & precision. There's a fluidity to their storytelling... & their grammar, word choices, sentence structure & spelling are usually impeccable. I'm sure that most of my GR friends realize by now that I'm the "Grammar B*tch," & I have no problems raking authors over the coals for a plethora of mistakes (grammar or syntax-related, or otherwise). Producing meticulous work is important to me, & I applaud authors who have strived to produce well-edited & perfect (or near-perfect) products.
The last thing that I will say about this group of authors is that they have done FANTASTIC jobs of creating open-mindedness among their readers and encouraging them to think outside of the box & beyond their comfort zones or predefined limits. Their books challenge you, which makes reading them all the more fulfilling.

This was a very short story that starts off the Wedding Dare series. The characters are well written and easy to connect to. While we don't get much about the setting, we do get a well conceived plot and most of a resolution to the story. This could be considered an erotic novella, but that part of the story is not the main focus, I am happy to say! I'm eager to see where the rest of the series goes!

This is was pretty quick read, predictable but I enjoyed it. Nothing earth-shattering, but the characters were likable, there was a decent bit of build up and sexual tension, some hotness. I would recommend and will read more from this author.

My Review:
My all-time favorite trope...friends to lovers and I absolutely adored the way that this one played out. Colton is six years older than Kady and they basically grew up together since Colton is best friends with her brother. But somewhere along the way he began to see her as a woman...not good for a guy who has the intense kinks that Colton has. Kady deserves nicer treatment than he needs in the bedroom. But he doesn't realize that her fantasies line up perfectly with his reality. (Did I mention this book is hot??)
The premise of the story is that Kady and Colton are truly compatible at every level...including professionally. They are both computer gurus who work on computer security and are both bidding on a military contract that could be worth a ton. Both their companies and a third are all providing final presentations at a small new military base. One that is currently getting flooded by torrential rainfall which keeps all three of them in town an extra 24 hours. That extra 24 hours is just enough for Kady and Colton to realize that although they haven't realized it before, they truly are perfect for one another.
I adore the way that this story played out. (Can we have a small cheer for the power of erotic romance novels??? hehe) The book only covers a single day (hello, novella) but the nature of their prior relationship (they've been friends for literally their entire lives) made the 24 hours completely believable for me. I loved this book and the fact that it provides the set-up for four other novellas...brilliant. The entire concept here is too perfect and the set-up provided by Laura Kaye is incredible. I'm totally on-board and will definitely be buying the entire collection of stories!

4.5 MAKE ME YOURS STARS
I truly love Laura Kaye's romance stories and she sure knows how to deliver an awesome novella. In fact, one of my favourite novellas is her's -Hearts in Darkness. This novella is no different. It was the perfect recipe of best friend's sister, friendship, sexual chemistry, a bit of angst, steamy erotic sex, a HOT dominant male and BAM! You've got a compelling, sweet, sexy story of how Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks get together.
I read this in one sitting and it had me smiling, smirking, over heating with the dirty talk and sex, and smiling! I love the concept of the Wedding Dare series and I'm looking forward to meeting the bridal party!

I love this novella. It was endearing and it was hot. I love the story of a beautiful geek computer nerd heroine and a seemingly rigid guy that has to have it rough in his private life.
Kady was forbidden from Colton for several reasons. She was the younger sister of his friend, he never suspected that his need for rough sex would be up her alley, and his parent's broken marriage left him not believing he'd be capable of a relationship which is what Kady deserves.
The writing is so engaging. The plot is so entertaining and the characters are fun. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.
This apparently sets up the other books written by different authors in this series and I'm excited to dig in!

As my first book by this author, I have to say I'm impressed. It was a steamy romance between two grown adults. I loved how smart both of these characters were, and thought Colton's interests were done well. Loved the camaraderie between these two as they'd known one another all their lives, Colton being Kady's older brother's best friend. Definitely looking forward to reading more of this author's work!
