One fake kiss caught on camera was all it took to turn NFL lineman Sawyer James and pop star Ellie Miles into the internet's new favorite couple. It was supposed to be a split-second distraction to defuse a dangerous moment. Instead, it went viral, and now the world thinks they're in love. The truth? They're practically strangers who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. With Ellie's ex fueling the tabloids and Sawyer's coach demanding clean headlines, they realize the media frenzy won't be dying down. So, they make a calculated decision—let the world believe the lie. Their fake relationship takes an unexpected turn when they uncover a journal hidden beneath the floorboards of Sawyer's home—its pages hinting at a tragedy that was never fully told. Drawn in by unanswered questions, they start digging for the truth themselves, following a trail that leads them deeper into the mystery and into each other’s lives. Somewhere between all the staged appearances, chasing down clues, and stolen moments, the lines they've drawn start to blur. And in a story built on lies, sometimes the script writes itself. Unscripted is the third book in the Woodstone Falls series—where a staged romance, an old mystery, and two unlikely allies prove that the most authentic connections can start with the biggest lies.
Anna has been in love with love for as long as she can remember. From getting swept up in rom-coms on screen to devouring love stories on page, she’s always found comfort in a happily ever after. In 2024, she decided to chase a new dream: crafting her own love stories. The Woodstone Falls Series is full of swoon worthy romance with just enough suspense to keep readers on their toes—all set in her beloved home state of Oregon.
I’ll be honest… I usually avoid pop-star or famous-people romances, so I was hesitant going into this one, especially because I adore this author and her work so much. But Ellie completely surprised me. There’s something so refreshingly relatable and grounded about her that made the entire story feel real and intimate.
And Sawyer? We knew he was going to be the ultimate golden-retriever MMC when it was finally his turn, and Anna wrote him to absolute perfection.
The light mystery/suspense elements blended seamlessly with the romance, and getting to see some of our favorite characters pop back in was the cherry on top.
3.75 ⭐️ This is absolutely NO hate to Anna! I love the Woodstone Fall series. I would recommend over and over. I still really enjoyed this one but Ellie drove me absolutely nuts she did redeem herself at the end. Sawyer is literally the perfect book boyfriend. I can’t wait for book 4!!
I thought undone was my favorite til I read Sawyer and Ellie’s story and omg this book is by far my favorite in the series!
Anna has a special was of blending romance with suspense and this book took my breath away. It was so good and I cldnt put it down. I had my reservations going in because it gave off Travis and Taylor vibes but this book was so much more than that and it sucked me in from page one!
This book also hope to those who “fake” date someone that there is hope for real feelings to overpower and overshadow the fake it til you make it you get with a fake arrangement. You feel all the feels and learn to love the characters in this book.
The twist with the suspense in this book was brilliant. I didn’t see it coming, I literally had no clue. This is the kind of book that you will think about long after you have read it. It will always live rent free in my heart.
Anna Jerr creates magic again in this third installment of the Woodstone Falls series!
After a video of their kiss goes viral, Sawyer and Ellie decide it is in both their best interests to appear to be dating. As they spend time together, they realize their feelings are becoming real.
I absolutely loved diving into Sawyer and Ellie's love story. This for sure felt Taylor/Travis inspired in such a fun way. Sawyer was such a golden retriever sweet heart. Ellie was very relatable as she contemplated what she wants next in life. The two were so cute as they danced around each other. I also enjoyed the element of suspense interwoven in the story, with a dynamic end. Plus we got to see all the James family members we've grown to love in the first two books!
Tropes * Fake Dating * Sports Romance * Football Player / Pop Star * Close knit Family
First of all, I absolutely love the James family. I have loved this series so much & I’ve been dying for Sawyer’s book. This one didn’t disappoint!! The banter, the chemistry, the suspense, just perfection!!
Ellie is a pop star who isn’t sure what she wants for the future & a little jaded by a past ex. Sawyer is a NFL football star, cinnamon MMC, and absolutely down bad for Ellie!
A little fake dating, some mystery/suspense, and an absolutely amazing family/friend dynamic, made this story one I didn’t want to put down!! If you thought you enjoyed book 1 & 2, buckle up, because Unscripted is about to make you fall in love!!
Thank you Anna Jerr for this early reading opportunity!!
Sports romance combined with a pop star usually wouldn’t be my thing but fake dating written by Anna Jerr? Yes please!
Sawyer is the epitome of a goofy golden retriever MMC which is exactly what Ellie needed. The fake contract on the napkin?! Adorable. It was obvious from the beginning that Sawyer was already head over heels for Ellie but he still played it cool waiting for her to catch up. The suspense element in this one was a bit less believable but it didn’t prevent me from loving it!
I absolutely adore this series. It is the perfect combination of romance & suspense/mystery. I was hooked from the prologue & finished within 24 hours. Every cameo from the James family makes me so happy!!! The little pop ins from Gracie are still my fav. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new series!
FAVORITE BOOK SO FAR IN THE WOODSTONE FALLS SERIES YET!!!!
This book was amazing and I loved it so much! I LOVE me a good fake dating, and ugh this itched the right spot.
Sawyer - he was such a fucking simp and I love him! I love me a good goofy but protective man, and he was perfect! I was obsessed with him the entire book, and just seeing how down bad he was for Ellie the entire book, it was amazing!
Ellie - I resonated to well with her, and seeing her emotions grow and and faulter through the book just hit home for me. Her being so beyond hard on herself and being so questionable of her actions, I feel so much in my own life. I felt so connected to Ellie and I rarely get that connected to characters while reading!
Reading Anna's books, I feel the growth in her writing and I love it! Keep doing great Anna - I am a forever fan of your writing! Cant wait for book 4!
This was an absolute pleasure & delight to read! It had me giggling, kicking my feet and swooning while also making me super emotional and in need of some tissues. It was so good! And the dreams & future talk laid me out.
Ellie is a mega superstar singer.
Sawyer is a pro football player.
They met because of a little incident involving his brother's girlfriend's ex and a hostage/attempted harm situation. He kissed her to distract the bad guy (sure, Jan) and the public lost their mind when the footage was released. So, in need of some good PR because of an ex, a fake dating situation is arranged. (spoiler alert, it doesn't seem to be all that fake except on the napkin)
Ellie is everything. She struggles to trust, is trying to please her parents by achieving what she thinks they want and has no idea what she wants anymore. She is running on fumes. She struggles to accept & receive Sawyer's affection and to trust him & what they could be. And her journey of facing herself & her questions is really beautiful and tugs at the heartstrings. And I love her fixation with true crime & the journal. Relateable.
Sawyer is one of my favourite golden retrievers. He is dealing with big changes and has to decide what his next steps are going to be and what life he wants. And he is in major like with his "fake" girlfriend. Him learning how she thinks & worries and trying to meet her where she is at is really sweet. And his willingness to follow her through any door is amazing.
I love these two. I love their individual stories, their love story, and their family relationships.
Anna's writing is so good! I love the world she has crafted and the characters are so brilliant. My brain likes the way the story flows & that it is easy to keep track of people.
I received this as an ARC and am so, so grateful! This had zero impact on my review.
Unscripted is book 3 in the Woodstone Falls series and it can read entirely fine as a standalone, but I HIGHLY recommend reading the previous books, they're so good. Well once more Anna scored a touchdown with this one. Her writing is just impeccable, her storytelling is out of this world and the plots are just so addictive and fun to follow. The suspense in this one was smoother than book 2, but I really enjoyed how it was incorporated and what it turned out to be. I had no idea the turn this would take, I was completely shocked by the outcome. I love how the author is able to blend both so seamlessly without either ever overshadowing the other, I think it just creates a fantastic balance for a romantic suspense.
Sawyer & Ellie my oh my. These 2 have my heart. They were such beautiful characters in their own ways. Their relationship felt genuine, real and relatable even through the fake dating part. Sawyer is the absolute swooniest of golden retriever MMC’s and Anna wrote him perfectly. Ellie had the perfect edge to her, I loved how she found herself and finally followed what she wanted to do. The entire James family is such a treat to see pop up, I love having updates on them. Anna just has a magical way of delivering stories that completely consumes me and makes me think about the characters long after I've finished the book.
Overall, this was an amazing installment in the series. I adored every single second of it. This series owns my heart and I'm sad that it is soon coming to an end.
✨️ Thank you to @authorannakerr for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have loved sawyer from the start! I always knew he would be my favorite, and he did not disappoint! Who could not love a big golden retriever nfl player, that despite his own trauma brings a smile to everyone’s face that he encounters? Not me , give me 14 of them right now ! 🤭🤭😍
And Ellie has been through some sh*t, but she still comes out swinging! Being in the spotlight brings all types of pressure , but when you add in a breakup, getting shot , and a kiss meant to be a distraction caught on a body cam goes public, when is she supposed to be breathe? Well that’s where , no publicity is bad publicity right ? 😬🤭 For Ellie that means fake dating the nfl player to spin the narrative, but what ends up getting spun is her feelings because this is supposed to be fake , but what Sawyer has her feeling is anything but!
Sawyer and Ellie bond over a creepy journal found in his new house, and from the first entry it has both of them spooked but not enough to stop investigating. But what will they uncover at the end! You’ll have to read to find out !
Sawyer and Ellie Fake dating Smalltown at times Football-Popstar
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SPICE: 🔥🔥
Ellie and Sawyer agree to fake date after a video of them goes viral. The hope is that by fake dating no damage comes to either of their reputation.
The growth by both was important in them giving into their true feelings. Ellie has some previous trauma with relationships and it isn’t easy for her to open her heart to anyone. Sawyer actually had a crush on Ellie for some time and wants to show Ellie how much he cares, that it isnt about who the world sees but who she truly is.
I couldn’t get enough of Sawyer and his golden retriever energy throughout the book. Loved the Christmas vibes, the snowball fight and Ellie in that scenario then the breaking into a house and cop car. I was laughing. Super fun and cute.
The side plot when they discover an old, hidden journal entry in Sawyer’s home was fun. Ellie’s being obsessed with it and Sawyer using it to get more time with her. I wasnt expecting the kidnapping or who did it 🤓
I have been so looking forward to Sawyer and Ellie's story, and it did not disappoint!
I just knew Sawyer would make this so swoony, and I was right! He just might be my new favorite James sibling. I was absolutely obsessed with how obsessed he was with Ellie. I also thought their characters complemented each other so well. I loved how they were both able to help one another figure out what they wanted out of this next stage of their life.
And of course, I am always a sucker for fake dating, though I did think that plotline was a little light. Considering that the whole reason they were pretending to date was that they both needed positive PR, I would have liked to see a few more planned outings, paparazzi moments, etc. As it is, they spend a lot of the book apart because of Ellie's tour and Sawyer's games. But otherwise, I really enjoyed this, and I cannot wait for the fourth book!
If you are a fan of romantic suspense, I recommend giving this series a try!
Everyone should have a Sawyer in their life - a literal perfect golden-retriever book boyfriend! 😩🙌🏻 The man was obsessed with a capital O, and I was so here for every swoon-worthy thought he had and every word he said! 💕 I can just imagine this huge NFL man instantly lighting up and practically begging for scraps the moment popstar Ellie turned her eyes on him. 🥹
And I really liked Ellie, BUT sometimes she also made me absolutely furious, and she totally lost me at times when I thought she was being so unfair toward Sawyer (yes, I know… I loved him, okay?). 😅 The mystery side plot felt a bit unnecessary at first, but in my opinion it made sense in the end and really wrapped up the story with a bang.
Thank you so much, Anna Jerr, for an ARC of Unscripted! I love my new golden-retriever book boyfriend! 🤣💕
Ellie and sawyer enter into a fake dating arrangement to benefit the both of them. Sawyer has been obsessed with her so saying yes is a blessing to him, but that infatuation quickly turns into something bigger something real. He already knew she’d be this sweet person, but he sees the true her. Ellie is trying her hardest to not fall for the Big NFL player. He’s the sweetest man she has ever meet and he makes her feel seen, but she can’t seem to understand why he would want her the real her the broken her, the her that even she doesn’t seem to like.
I love how both main characters brought the best out of each other, the raw side of themselves. I liked the side mission these two set out to uncover.

Dang, Anna knocked this one out of the park too! I really enjoyed this one! I adored Sawyer since the first two books. I enjoyed getting to know Ellie and her journey through this one. I love their banter so much! Like it’s been one of my favorites to read! I loved seeing the whole family again! The siblings’ banter always has me cackling! I enjoyed the true crime/mystery in this one! It was a fun adventure! I liked the little teaser for Colt’s book! 🤭 I loved Sawyer and how big his heart is! I love how down bad he is for her! I really liked Ellie, and I know she was going through things, but I couldn’t quite connect with her. But I enjoyed their story, and it was a beautiful one!
Thank you, Anna Jerr, for the opportunity to read this amazing ARC!
I was so excited for Ellie and Sawyers story and it did not disappoint. This book was pop star x nfl player with fake dating, he falls first and romantic suspense. I think the suspense element in this book has been my favorite of the series! Sawyer is such a top tier book boyfriend. The way he cared for Ellie baby was everything! I love seeing all of the characters from the previous books. I can’t recommend this book or this series enough!
To start off, I really enjoyed this story overall. It wasn’t a trope that I usually gravitate towards but I loved it nevertheless. I’m not sure if it’s marketed as a romcom but the banter was 10/10, there were so many cute/funny moments that I highlighted on my kindle. Anna Jerr is one of my favorite indie authors and I definitely recommend checking out her work! Her books are quick, cozy reads that you can read in one sitting if you wanted to.
Thank you to Anna for sending me an ARC of Unscripted!
I’ve loved Anna’s writing since I found her on TikTok back in the day before Unbearable was even published. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in the Woodstone series and Sawyer and Ellie’s story did NOT disappoint!
Sawyer is just a sweet baby man who is so down bad for his lady. My favorite kind of MMC. But oh boy is he filthy.
Fantastic, all around. The suspense? It sneaks up on you and is very suspense-y. No notes there.
Anna Jerr just keeps surprising me with how good her books are, one after the other! I have read the first two books in this series as well, and I haven't came across one I havent throughly enjoyed! The popstar-football player romance could have easily been played out, but it wasnt. Not with the way she wrote Sawyer and Ellies story. It was soo refreshing to have a popstar be the way Ellie was she wasnt snooty, or had a better than everyone else attitude. Ellie was as laid back as she could and such a kind soul. The way Sawyer described how she looked in detail was also so refreshing because of how he noticed her... ugh it was perfection 😫. The Woodstone Falls series just keeps getting better and better!! If you love fake dating, romantic suspense, and the fact he falls first then why arent you reading this yet??
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unscripted by @authorannajerr - Anna Jerr
My second Anna Jerr read and I was hooked. The whole “oops our kiss went viral so now we’re fake dating” thing was adorable, and Sawyer is the most lovable golden-retriever football player ever. Ellie’s stress and chaos felt super relatable, and watching them slowly catch feelings was chef’s kiss.
The mystery journal under the floorboards was such a cool twist and kept things from feeling like just another romance. Not a perfect 5 for me, but still so fun and easy to binge.
Definitely made me want to finish reading the rest of the series! 💛📚
I received an ARC of this book, but all my thoughts are my own.
Overall impression: I enjoyed this book. It was cliche and a bit cringe, but it was so sweet. I would recommend it as a light cozy read. I loved that Sawyer was the one pining for Ellie instead of the typical setup. It was so refreshing for a man to be more invested than the woman. I was grateful for the way this story was plotted.
Character notes: Sawyer was hopelessly in love. He reminded me of a TikTok user named Zane Carter. The TikToker recently posted videos about non-sexual things that was attractive about a woman, and that energy reminded me so much of Sawyer. He was so sweet and so open with his feelings and it was the most refreshing thing to read on the page. He was the exact definition of a golden retriever.
"She asked me out. Ellie Miles just asked me out. I had no words."
Ellie was a successful pop star who got lost in her persona and didn't know how to live a life without the pressure and the spotlight because she felt she owed it to everyone to keep going.
"I'd seen her perform before and thought I was impressed then. This was different. Maybe because now, I knew what it cost her--how much she had to push through to get here, to be this version of herself under all the pressure."
Their chemistry was instant. I loved how easy they got along together.
I also loved Sawyer's family! They were chaotic. I specially loved Dorian and Noah constantly betting on the lives of their family members. It was so funny reading about them exchanging money because one or the other lost a bet. And Ellie's family was so supportive. The whole family dynamic on both sides was so wholesome.
And their respective best friends were also great. I loved that the relationships Sawyer and Ellie had were strong and supportive.
Plot and pacing: The plot was easy to follow and well-written. It also didn't feel rushed. I loved the world that the author built and it was easy to care for each of the characters.
Writing style: The dialogue almost felt like telling someone what they wanted to hear, like a script - ironic, I know. The character thoughts were quite cliche and the dialogue at the beginning felt like something my teenage self would have written. I think the dialogue could have been better when Ellie and Sawyer were first starting to get to know each other. As the story progressed, however, the emotion behind the words felt a little more genuine. The storytelling was great and made it very easy to love the characters.
Final thoughts: I would recommend this book. I enjoyed it and it was so easy to read. Sawyer was such a wholesome and lovable character and I think everyone deserves to get to know him.
Hmmm….the football player and the pop star….sound familiar? Don’t worry though, that is about all this story has in common with Taylor Swift’s romance. Unscripted is book 3 in Anna’s Woodstone Falls series. Mixing romance with suspense has never failed Anna and this book is no different. Reading about how our MCs meet, create a plan, and start falling for each other I was swept away into this story, as I always am by Anna. Her storytelling abilities always impress me and keep me captivated as her stories progress.
Ellie and Sawyer agree to fake date after a video of them goes viral. The hope is that by fake dating no damage comes to either of their reputation, but we all know how the fake dating always ends up. But even though I knew where it was going to end, I still was excited to see the how. Both MCs were fun to get to know and watch them navigate their growing feelings. Ellie has had some previous trauma with relationships and it isn’t easy for her to open her heart to anyone, even when she is extremely attracted to him. Sawyer has had a crush on Ellie for some time and wants to show Ellie how much he cares.
I couldn’t get enough of Sawyer and his golden retriever energy throughout the book. Even beyond his feelings, his family welcomes Ellie in from the beginning. When they discover an old, hidden journal entry in Sawyer’s home, they work together to solve the mystery around it. In doing so Ellie lets her guard down, showing the real her, letting her carefully crafted facade fade away. Which makes Sawyer fall even more and harder.
I encourage fans of romance to take a chance on this story. Anna has always been able to tie romance and suspense perfectly, not letting the mystery overtake the romance. At the heart of her books, she is a romance writer through and through. Her characters are real and easy to connect to. I can’t wait for book 4 in this series and more of Anna’s amazing writing talents.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🎤Pop Star FMC 🏈NFL Player MMC 🎤Fake Dating 🏈He Falls First 🎤Romance Suspense 🏈Small Town Romance
This book absolutely consumed me—in the best way. Unscripted by Anna Jerr gave me everything I love in a romance: tension, frustration, emotional depth, and a love story I couldn’t put down. I honestly felt like I was drinking in the pages.
The back-and-forth between the characters was so good it almost hurt. That slow burn, the uncertainty, the longing—it had me stressed and smiling at the same time. The mystery woven through the story was subtle but powerful, keeping me hooked without taking over the romance.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the way “L” was written. There’s something so solemn and poetic about that character that made me stop and think. It felt like I was asking the same questions the main characters were asking themselves, and I loved that emotional pull.
The spice level was perfect—just enough to keep me locked in without ever making me uncomfortable or cringing. Everything felt natural and real. Honestly, the whole story felt like it could be what a pop star actually goes through behind the scenes, which made it even more fun to read.
And can we talk about the men Anna Jerr writes? Because she gets it. I love a devoted, emotionally open, soft-but-strong man—and she delivers every time. Total simp energy, and I’m here for it. I also really loved how she brought in side characters and connections without ever letting them overshadow the main story. They felt intentional. I felt like I knew them!
More than anything, I loved getting to witness Anna’s growth as a writer through this book. You can feel the care, the evolution, and the heart on every page. Unscripted is emotional, addictive, romantic, and so beautifully written. I 100% recommend it.
CHEFS KISS! Laughs! Giggles(feet kicking)! Suspense! Mystery! This story had it all! Ellie baby is sunshine turn jaded due to a bad boyfriend and some bad press is all too much a people pleaser living her life to not disappoint her fans but not truly happy. What she doesn’t expect is meet Sawyer who is the definition of golden retriever who masks his own trauma through humor. I love the plot and the journey the story took us on. It wasn’t just romance it was romance with mystery elements because of a found journal.. and I think that was my favorite part! The spice wasn’t too much but the love was real and you could feel it in the pages! I loved Ellie, her role as pop star was what I imagine is so true, the pressure the constant feeling of hoping your not letting people down and having literally millions of people depend on your music and your role in the world to make them happy. I loved how her character evolved and how we went on a journey of her moving towards what she wants. She wasn’t blinded by love she realized and unknowingly let walls down and realized she wanted that feeling gradually, unsure of when it happened. Sawyer definitely gives golden retriever and in a way it’s his mask, he uses his humor to hide his feelings and has been like that for a long time. Enter Ellie after an incident they agree to fake date but were they really fake dating or were they finally realizing the life each of them wanted with each other? Beautifully written! 🫶🏼
A video goes viral and both Ellie and Sawyer find themselves agreeing to fake dating in order minimize any blowback that could damage their reputations and careers. Neither expected to develop real feelings or to want their relationship to lead to a future together. Ellie has more than enough reason to be wary of love after her last relationship, so her growing feelings for Sawyer are unsettling and a little scary. Sawyer has long been attracted to her and is happy for the chance to get to know her a little better. He definitely is a golden retriever hero with lots of charm and a protective streak that she finds endearing. She finds the size of his family a bit daunting at first, but they make her feel welcome and one of them. As they work together to solve a mystery surrounding an old journal hidden in his new home, Sawyer and Ellie really get to know one another and like what they discover. He sees the real her, not the celebrity facade, but the warm, sweet woman who needs a change of pace and time recharge and focus on more than tours and appearances. Sawyer makes Ellie feel seen, safe and worthy of love. Together, they have found the real thing….love and a happily ever after.
Their story is entertaining, sweet and engaging with a little intrigue and suspense to make it more captivating. Their story inclusion of a few familiar characters from previous book written by this author only added to the enjoyment of this book. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
