This was such a great romantic suspense! Who knew I’d fall in love with a little island and a salt farming family??? (Yes, I’ve learned SO much about salt farming and it is the coolest thing!)
Anya was a secretive girl with a past who tried her best to keep her distance to keep her previous life hidden. I loved that ultimately she just wanted to protect her new friends she made when making the move to the island. She was very selfless and always worrying about everyone else first which made her such a relatable character.
Drew was a walking green flag and golden retriever all meshed into one! He was down bad for Anya right from the beginning and I loved watching him open up and his character growth. The love between Drew and Anya was a slow burn, but once they get to opening up their hearts, their chemistry was so sweet and palpable from the page. I adored them together and was rooting for them from the beginning.
Aside from the main characters, I LOVED the friend group and the found family aspect of the story. And Drew’s gran???? oh my gosh she had me in stitches! She was such a fun, full of personality character and I loved all the bits and pieces we got of her. I selfishly want a gran of my own. 🤣 The mystery and suspense throughout the book was done to perfection! I stayed at the edge of my seat and eager to find out more right from the first chapter.
All in all, I really loved this story! I would highly recommend to all my besties who love a small town, slow burn, found family romance! 🤍

A grumpy sea salt farmer (yeah that’s a real thing!) and a sunny yoga instructor with a hidden past, a grandma with a naughty mouth, a great group of friends!
“He gave me a dark look. “Tell me what you want, Sunny Girl, so I can get it for you.” I bit my bottom lip. He looked so serious. Like something as simple as my coffee preference mattered to him. Was this Drew’s idea of flirting? If so, it was surprisingly effective.”

While there was this overlying mystery and town grief and hidden secrets, these Anya and Drew were always strong for each other, no miscommunications or breakups. Drew is a literal walking talking Green Flag. Anya tried to keep her distance because she was ashamed of her past, but for Drew there was no holding back, he knew she was it.
This story gave me strong Riggs Family by Victoria Wilder Vibes with the mystery and small town, found family, it was very enjoyable story!

Ok I absolutely loved that this was a local to me setting and a town I have been to multiple times, can concur the setting description was 👍
I like a good romantic suspense.
The secrets and suspense.
It gave me Nicholas sparks “Safe Haven” type vibes.

Small town romance with a bit of a suspense twist.
I really enjoyed the description of the town and it's somewhere I'd love to see in person.
This is definitely a slow burn romance between Drew, our MMC, and Anya, our FMC. Anya has secrets that led her to this new town. Drew is her roomates brother. There is definitely lots of chemistry, but Anya's past holds her back. Until it doesn't.
I think my favorite character was Drew's gran. She was hilarious. The suspense piece was slightly lacking, and I wish I had gotten more of it, but overall, I really liked this love story.

Hidden Harbor was everything I love in small town romance.
Anya and Drew story was simply perfection. Anya is running from her past, which means not taking any risks. The risk in falling in love with her best friend brother. You see the chemistry they share between the two of them. Drew is the kind of man that protect what’s his. And he knows Anya is special to not only him but their shared friendship group. This friend group is more like family and I love how tight nit they all are. When the past comes knocking they will do everything in their power to protect the ones they love.
This story had it all, love, laughter, amazing banter and even a crazy grandma. I just loved this little small town and can’t wait to come back. 💙

This book started out rough. I couldn't read more than a couple of pages before I got distracted. It happens. Not every book will open with a bang. But this one seemed to only get marginally better. It was enough to keep me interested and finish. We'll put it that way.
I did think it was cute. Drew was a protective cinnamon roll once you get past his grumpy exterior. His attempts to "woo" Anya were charming. Anya is your typical "i dont need to be in a relationship" one minute and then "why aren't you around me" the next minute. Other than that, she really didn't stick out for me.
Honestly, some of the side characters had me more intrigued than the main characters did. Like, Lee? If Lee gets a book, I am definitely reading that!
I also got left with some questions. Maybe those will get answered in other books? I hope so.

These characters felt flat. The romantic suspense did too. I think there could have been some more tension or angst. Drew used phrases like hella and AF, and those didn’t feel like phrases a 30-something broody man would use.

Hidden Harbor brought all the Summer vibes. Having visited San Juan Island many times, I loved that the characters and story took place in many familiar locations. Mentions of Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, and Lime Kiln brought fond memories.
San Juan Island means summertime, and summertime means Summer Love. Anya and Drew have a slow-burning romance, but secrets on Anya’s end are woven into the plot. I appreciated that both characters were in their 30s, and Drew had a great family. There’s a fun Grandma who is quite direct, which balances out throughout the story. There is spice, but it’s a slow burn, so expect it to kick in later. Overall, I enjoyed the story and liked how Anya’s past was handled.

Mmm it was cute. Love an overprotective MMC, story just maybe a little underdeveloped for me. Will be interesting to pursue the other characters stories in the other books. Love the friend group dynamic, loved the family humour. It’s an easy read.

This small town romance, set on an island off the coast of Washington has a little bit of everything. A quick read with spice, mystery, lies, secrets and a quirky grandma that will make you laugh out loud. The FMC is rebuilding her life and has finally found her people, including her best friend’s brother!

Anya was secretive and guarded in the beginning, but only because she wanted to protect the new friends she found on the island. She was afraid that her past would ruin the life she's worked so hard to build on this little island in the San Juan's off in the Puget Sound off the coast of Washington. Her selflessness and quiet strength made her deeply relatable. I love that she was finally able to open up and trust not only Drew but his family and that in that she found the ultimate freedom. Drew? A total green flag with golden retriever energy—completely smitten from the start. Once he got the green light from his sister, he jumped headfirst, and I love seeing daring moves of the heart from MMC's. We don't get enough of that. The sibling rivalry over Anya made me giggle. Watching both of them grow and open up was a joy, and once they let their walls down, the chemistry leapt off the page. Their slow-burn romance was absolutely worth it!!!
Drew's grandma however was the MVP for me. She had me grinning like a fool every time she was on page. Her quirkiness kind of reminded me of my own grandma and therefore it felt very nostalgic on a personal level for me.
Overall, the found family vibe was just what this book needed to round it out—especially the friend group and Drew’s gran, who had me laughing out loud. She was pure chaotic delight! The mystery kept me hooked from chapter one, and I especially enjoyed being back home in my home state. I grew up on the coastline but have family in the San Juan Island and reading this it felt like being home. It made me miss the ocean, greenery and the Pacific Northwest all over again.
I feel like once you find out why she was running, the suspense melts away, it becomes predictable. Although unless I missed something, I'm not sure where the finding the guy dead fit into the whole story... I also would have liked to see her parents dealt with, which I don't think we got in this story, if I'm not mistaken. (I apologize I finished this book last week and forgot to write my review the next day, so I'm trying to recall.)
Overall if you're looking for a short book with some suspense and some romance based in the PNW- this is your book. If you like these tropes, I think you should give this book a try. This book would be good for readers who like Devney Perry, Catherine Cowles or Corrine Micheals- but shorter.

This was a small-town romance with a touch of suspense. Our FMC is Anya Rose, who has moved to the small town of Friday Harbor to start over. She owns the yoga studio and is the instructor. She is running from her past, a dangerous past, because she has a new identity. Our MMC is Drew Fenwick; he is a sea salt farmer and works as one of the local search and rescue leaders in the town. His sister is best friends and roommates with Anya.
This book was good. I liked the characters and the flow of the book. I was getting impatient and wanted to know what Anya was hiding. I think it was bothering me because I wanted her to open up to Drew so they could move on with their relationship. They both felt something for one another from the beginning. The slow burn was good, even if I was impatient about it. It helped Drew prove to Anya that he was here to stay. I understood why Anya had hesitations, especially after finding out what she was running from. She just wanted to keep her friends safe. Once Anya gave in to her feelings for Drew, they had great chemistry.
The found family aspect was amazing. From Violet, the girls' group, the brothers, and Lee the writer, to Gran. Gran, she is something else. I hope we get to know more of the other characters in future books. I found Drew's work as a sea salt farmer exciting. I wanted to know more about that.
This was my first @ameliasimoneauthor book, and I enjoyed it. I felt like I had missed a prior book from the opening chapters. The reason is that none of the characters' backgrounds were fully explained. But that didn’t stop me from reading. I love small-town, found-family romances. I wonder how quirky and sassy Gran will be in the future books.

Despite the concealed truths, community pain, and pervasive enigma, Anya and Drew consistently backed each other; misunderstandings or rifts were non-existent. Drew serves as a true embodiment of a Green Flag. Due to her shame regarding her background, Anya tried to distance herself, yet Drew understood she was the one and there was no restraint.
The puzzle, quiet village, and relatives present in this tale reminded me of Victoria Wilder's Riggs Family. It was an incredibly enjoyable read!

Anya moved to Friday Harbor a year prior, outrunning her past unbeknownst to her new friends. She's changed her name, started a business, and found a good group of friends. She's crushing on her best friend/roommate's brother, Drew, but with her past she has a hard time letting go and falling into romance. Drew however is not so easily deterred. He's always admired from afar but it's finally his time to make his move and get the girl of his dreams. While he's planning on making his move, a tragedy strikes and a dead body shows up, starting an investigation and bringing a sense of worry to the usually quiet town. As the investigation begins and Anya and Drew draw closer, someone from her pasts shows up and threatens everything she's started for herself. Will she lean into her new friends or cut and run again?
So I ripped through this book in one sitting. Once I started, I could not stop until I finished the book. The start of the book was a little hard for me to get into, but once I got reading and characters were introduced I was able to sink a little more into the book. If you're looking for a romantic mystery, this book is not for you. The mystery plot line got sort of left behind as the book went along but the romance WAS ROMANCING! I highlighted so many good quotes, both romantic and funny, which saved this book for me. The patience Drew showed for Anya and the unwavering support really hit me. Amelia killed writing these scenes, she brought the emotion in a way that made the book feel extra realistic. I also loved how the group of friends rallied around Anya in her time of need, as well as the little quips from other characters (setting up for future books, I need Clay and Lucy NOW). This was a great heart warming read which you can easily knock out in one afternoon!

"Hidden Harbor" is the first installment in the Evergreen Rescue series, and you’re in for a treat with Anya and Drew’s love story. It really has a bit of everything: a charming small-town setting, the classic grumpy/sunshine dynamic, plenty of mystery and suspense, a protective male lead, some heat, and a female protagonist who’s trying to escape her past.
Anya moves to Friday Harbor looking for a fresh start and to leave her troubles behind. She opens her own yoga studio, hoping for some peace and quiet. Drew has been taken with Anya since the moment he met her, but since she lives with his sister, it complicates things a bit. Instead of confessing his feelings right away, they develop a lovely friendship, with Drew always there to support her—especially when her past comes back to haunt her. His protective side really shines through, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
This was my first read by this author, and I can’t wait to explore more of her work! The characters and the world are beautifully crafted, and their friendship feels so real and relatable—I really hope we get to see more of it! As Anya moves to Friday Harbor in search of a fresh start, hoping to leave her troubles behind. She opens her own yoga studio, looking for some peace and quiet. And Drew, a local, has been captivated by Anya since the moment he met her. However, since Anya shares a house with his sister Violet, this complicates matters a little.
So instead of confessing his feelings, Drew builds a wonderful friendship with Anya, showing up whenever she needs support and acting as a protective presence, especially when her past comes back to haunt her. This leads to a beautiful slow-burn relationship that culminates in some hot moments when they finally express their feelings for each other.

June 28, 2025My first Amelia book- and the cover alone had me sold. This screamed cozy romantic suspense based on the blurb and the cover, and while there were certainly elements I enjoyed, a lot of this story didnt quite grip me.
Heroine Anya is on the run from her past, hiding in Friday Harbor, the most idyllic little town. Drew (and his meddlesome and at times out of control grandmother) fall for her- and as they fall Anya's past remains a barrier between them. Will she open up and trust again?
The characters here are interesting and likable. Drew in particular was the star of the story- he's sweet and protective and just a grumpy golden retriever type. He's endearing. And Anya is kind of classic heroine in danger, holding herself back, anti-relationship but folds like a stack of cards when the right yummy guy comes along. I'd cave for Drew too.
I love a heroine on the run/in hiding plot line, but this one didn't quite have the suspense pay off. It takes so long for this to come out and then the ending all felt a bit rushed- so maybe it was a bit of a pacing issue. I think this really hindered me buying into the chemistry. There are some other elements not answered- but I'm guessing that spans the series over time. All in all not an okay read- perhaps not my favorite but there are elements I still enjoyed.

Heroine Anya is on the run from her past, hiding in Friday Harbor, the most idyllic little town. Drew (and his meddlesome and at times out of control grandmother) fall for her- and as they fall Anya's past remains a barrier between them. Will she open up and trust again?
The characters here are interesting and likable. Drew in particular was the star of the story- he's sweet and protective and just a grumpy golden retriever type. He's endearing. And Anya is kind of classic heroine in danger, holding herself back, anti-relationship but folds like a stack of cards when the right yummy guy comes along. I'd cave for Drew too.
I love a heroine on the run/in hiding plot line, but this one didn't quite have the suspense pay off. It takes so long for this to come out and then the ending all felt a bit rushed- so maybe it was a bit of a pacing issue. I think this really hindered me buying into the chemistry. There are some other elements not answered- but I'm guessing that spans the series over time. All in all not an okay read- perhaps not my favorite but there are elements I still enjoyed.

If we want to be specific, I'd probably give this book 3.5 stars.
I genuinely loved Amelia Simone's writing overall and the setting for this series might as well have been created just for me. Book me a plane ticket and I'm there.
Incredible setting aside, I also really enjoyed how well the found family vibes within Hidden Harbor hit the spot, and the cast of side characters gave just enough to have me eager to see who else will get their own book within the series.
As for Anya and Drew... I really enjoyed their characters and their story, but it never quite crossed over into full blown "okay, I'm obsessed" territory. I started off liking them and I ended the book still liking them, but there wasn't really a moment where I felt undeniably invested in them, if that makes sense. The same could probably be said about the romantic suspense element to their story. I love romantic suspense, so it was enough to have me intrigued, but I could've done with a bit more tension, suspense, and surprise.
And to me, that's not a bad thing? Within any series you're bound to connect more with some characters than others, or certain plots more than others, and I've seen enough within Hidden Harbor to fully believe that's going to be the case for me. This was one of those books where I probably won't feel compelled to read it again but would still recommend to a friend.

First, thank you to The Author Agency and Amelia Simone for an ARC copy of this book. This was my first introduction to the author and I would definitely read more based off of this!!
This is a small town romance with a bit of mystery suspense, and I feel like a small town/mystery suspense romance books are so good and I feel myself flying through them! This genre combination is something that I really enjoy and this book was honestly a really quick read. It draws you in from the start and then just makes you want to keep reading more and more. It also has a mix of best friends’s brother and grumpy sunshine, and I eat those up every single time. I loved Anaya and Drew‘s relationship because they didn’t jump right into it. Obviously there was kind of like that initial attraction, but they built upon things of having that friendship basis first and then moved to take the next step in their relationship. I feel like relationships work so much better when they start with friendships. With them starting as friends first, Anaya felt comfortable enough to tell Drew about her past because there is more to Anaya than meets the eye. With Anaya‘s past, it also leads to more mystery in the story and I think that added because it helped to give you a full perspective of what was going on. I really enjoyed this book and would love to continue reading about other characters in this world!

This book had so many of my favorite tropes, so I was thrilled when I received an ARC. Grumpy x sunshine, best friend’s brother, found family, protective hero, small town vibes, and a yoga-loving heroine with a secret past? What’s not to get excited about?
And while it was cute and cozy in a lot of ways, I found myself wanting… more. More tension, more emotional depth, more time spent digging into what made these characters tick.
Drew is technically the grumpy one in this grump/sunshine pairing, but honestly, I didn’t see it. He was lowkey a total sweetheart from the start—especially during that first coffee date, where he was so unexpectedly charming that it gave me actual heart eyes.
Anya’s backstory had potential to bring some real emotional weight, but the conflict with her past family got wrapped up so quickly that it didn’t land as hard as I wanted. I was waiting for that big cathartic moment that never quite came.

This is between 3 to 3.5 stars for me.
The story starts off with the FMC alluding to something terrible in her past, but no details are given. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in books - authors who keep the readers in the dark about what’s going on and building up to a reveal that generally is underwhelming at best.
While Anya and Drew were interesting, I don’t feel like we get to know them very well. We learn Anya moved to the island for a secret and mysterious reason a year ago; and she owns a yoga studio and has been accepted into a group of locals. At first she tells Drew she doesn’t want to get involved with anyone and then not much later in the timeline she’s practically pouncing on the guy and he’s telling her he wants to go slow.
When Anya’s secret and mysterious past is finally revealed around 65% it wasn’t very compelling and is resolved without much fanfare. I’ve read several other books by this author that were more rom-com vs suspenseful and I loved her writing. Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t something I loved and that’s my personal taste - other readers may love this type of storyline.

At first it took me a little to get into but once I did it was so good! I absolutely loved the small town, found family vibes this book had to offer. I really enjoyed the FMC Anya and the friendships she had made since living on the island. The romance was definitely a slow burn which I absolutely loved, I really enjoyed the friendship Anya and Drew had established first. The spice in the book was so so good! Oh and I can’t forget the fact he calls her Sunny Girl! So CUTE!
I can’t help but feel as though I want to be a member of the Fenwick family. The way they were with one another, poking fun while also being supportive and present was everything! I especially loved Gran, she was absolutely hilarious. The things she would come out with had me literally laughing out loud.
This book also had a mystery aspect surrounding Anya’s past which I also found to be really enjoyable. I feel like it made the story feel fresh in comparison to a lot of other small town romance books.
This is the first book I have read by this author I will definitely be checking more of her books out in the future. I am so thankful to have been selected as an ARC reader. Thank you to both Amelia Simone & The Author Agency for the opportunity.

Hidden Harbor is book one in the Evergreen Rescue series and is the story or Anya and Drew. This is a grumpy/sunshine, small town, best friend's brother romance with elements of danger and an over protective MMC.
Anya is a yoga instructor in her small town and has started over after running from her dangerous family, starting over with a new identity in a new place. Drew is the older brother of Anya's best friend, a sea salt farmer and one of the local search and rescue leaders.
Anya wants to start her new life and keep everything light and happy, even when estranged family threatens to resurface and break the serenity she has found. Drew takes protectiveness to a new level and is as serious as they come. With danger lurking, Drew and Anya spend more time together and the slow burn romance ignites. As Anya's secrets continue to be uncovered, the suspense builds and adds to this amazing storyline.

This was so good! I couldn't put this down.
Anya and Drew were adorable. Their dynamic is grumpy x sunshine. I absolutely loved Drew. He is a grumpy cinnamon roll whose also protective of those he loves. Drew felt drawn to Anya but never made a move because she's his sister's best friend and roommate. He also has suspicions that she's hiding something about her past since she never discusses it. Anya is our mysterious FMC. She's incredibly sweet and kind hearted but betrayal in her past has made her guarded. Watching Drew be able to make Anya comfortable enough to tear town her walls was so beautiful to see. Plus their chemistry was so good too. Drew and Anya will make your heart melt!
I enjoyed the suspense storyline and thought it was wrapped up well by the end. I also really liked the small town of Friday Harbor. It sounded so cute and I totally wish this was real so I could live there haha.
The side characters were a hoot, especially Drew's grandma. I can't wait to see more of these characters in future books.

Hidden Harbor takes place on a small island. One would need a ferry to get to, I love the small town, small island settings. The book starts out with four girls, four friends spotting a body off the cliffs on their morning hike. This book is a small town suspense romance, the FMC, Anya runs a yoga studio and is running from her past and her family while the MMC, Drew owns at a salt farm and moonlights as Search and rescue for the island. I am not sure what kind of salt drew Farms whether it’s bath salt or eating salt but it’s such a fun original job I soaked up every detail! Another point I really enjoyed was Anya’s maturity when dealing with her past sadly it’s unique to see it dealt with maturely in most books in this book does it really well.
A good mystery invoked, a quirky fun cast of characters, and a sweet friends to lovers/best friends brother romance that wasn’t a big dramatic part in this story with a solid base for the rest of the upcoming series! A good mystery invoked, a quirky fun cast of characters, and a sweet friends to lovers/best friends brother romance that wasn’t a big dramatic part in this story with a solid base for the rest of the upcoming series! This story gave me similar vibes to Those small shows on Acorn (the streaming service.). Same Small town murder mystery vibes with DC investigators and the same wit, charm and intrigue! If you enjoy Catherine Cowles or Claire Kingsley, I would definitely pick up this first book in the Evergreen Rescue Series. This is forced proximity at its finest folks. These two can't help their attraction, and when Any's ex shows up to town threatening to expose her secrets Drew cares more about protecting Anya than he does the secrets she's hiding and just wants to keep her safe.
