If it was possible to give a book negative stars, this one would definitely merit it. I always try to keep an open mind when reading and I have a lot of respect for authors so I always try to find something to enjoy in a book. And I really tried hard with this one but it didn't give me much to start with. Until around 85% of the way through it was so boring that I wanted to drive something through my eyes so I wouldn't have to read it anymore. And then it took the weirdest most fucken far fetched turn that I've EVER read. Seriously, what in the actual fuck was that?

More murder mystery than romance, especially the first half of the book. Heroine keeps mum about what could be a crucial piece of evidence in the murder because, she's embarrassed she made a mistake? Not sure but super annoying and dragged out. There was a love triangle trying to happen but even that couldn't muster up the energy to really thrive (much like me trying to write this review). Sometimes the interaction between our leads would draw me in but there wasn't enough to keep me hooked. The ending with the villain and motive was a bit wackadoodle too, for how sedate the rest of the book was. There's glimpses of writing I liked but not sure there was enough to have me giving another book in the series a go.

Night Storm is Tracey Devlyn's latest historical romance, and it's perfect for fans of historical mysteries. I first read the author with A Lady's Secret Weapon , which I loved. I was quite delighted to receive an advance copy of Night Storm, especially when I learned that it featured two characters that had a "moment" in A Lady's Secret Weapon; it was clear that they had History, and in Night Storm readers are treated to what that History is.

Charlotte Fielding is an apothecary, one of the only females working at the profession, and she has returned home to London from her apprenticeship in Scotland to take over her father's shop. Unfortunately, she soon finds herself involved in a murder investigation when she stumbles upon the body of Lady Winthrop. Complicating matters is the fact that Charlotte's assistant's brother, Felix, works at the theatre where the body was discovered. Charlotte will do whatever she can to protect Felix, even keep important information from her former suitor, Cameron Adair.

Cameron has made himself a success as a thief-taker despite his less than illustrious beginnings. When he's brought in to investigate the murder of Lady Winthrop, Cameron is forced into regular contact with Charlotte, which brings back all his memories of her and the past they shared before Charlotte decided to pursue her studies in Scotland. While the two follow different avenues of investigation they soon have to decide whether or not they trust one another enough to share information - as well as deal with their complicated history. What I liked about Night Storm was the past relationship between Charlotte and Cameron. They both cared for each other, but when Charlotte wanted to do more with her life, Cameron decided not to go with her, breaking all contact with her. He refused to wait for Charlotte, and he gave her an ultimatum: marry him then, or not ever. I found it interesting that it is Charlotte's career drove these two apart, as that's not a common element in historical romance, and I like the way that it was handled. It wasn't so much that Cameron was against Charlotte having a career, but rather a fear of losing the one person he cared most for and the believe that just maybe she didn't care as much.

Cameron was an interesting character and he really seemed to have a dual personality. In one respect, Cameron was ruthless in his job as a thief taker, and readers learn that he did some unscrupulous things in order to get started in the business. It seems that this risk taking behaviour was a direct result of Charlotte refusing to stay in London and abandon her dreams. On the surface, Cameron seems unreasonable in his belief that Charlotte give up her professional dreams and marry him, but readers soon learn that there is another side to Cameron, a yearning to recapture what he had with Charlotte when they're reunited:

He'd known better than to attempt reconciliation. The day he'd walked out of her life, the day she'd stood in front of him with broken-hearted love shimmering in her eyes, he'd known she would never forgive him. So why had he put them through an ill-fated reunion tonight after so much time had passed?

Adair forced down the bile forming in the back of his throat. He knew very well why. After learning of Charley's return to London, he'd made regular trips down Long Acre Street looking for the opportunity of catching a fleeting glimpse of her. And he had. He'd observed her working long into the night and he'd been there when she had greeted a boy and a young woman one morning. He'd watched and yearned and plotted ways to casually run into her. Tonight, he'd finally found an excuse to see her again, and she'd wanted nothing to do with him. Not that he could blame her, but her rejection stung, nonetheless (p. 29-30).

Cameron was a well developed character, and I thought his vulnerability when it came to Charlotte was exceptionally portrayed. Cameron's actions always seem to suggest that he's a rather cold, and unfeeling character, but whenever readers get into his head, it's easy to see that there is much more going on. I loved this complexity of character, and I also liked how the author used this same care with regards to Cameron and Charlotte's relationship.

It's very clear from the beginning that Cameron is aware that he made mistakes; however, it's equally clear that Charlotte is also unaware of her own father's manipulations in removing Charlotte from Cameron's influence. Charlotte's father certainly didn't believe Cameron was good enough for Charlotte, and encouraging her to take an apprenticeship was one means of breaking off contact. Ultimately, Night Storm's romance focuses on both Charlotte and Cameron's admittance of their past mistakes. When they were first together they were young and full of high emotion. Age has tempered these high spirits, allowing both of them to reconsider their past actions:

Had Charley not gone to Scotland, they would likely wed and begun building a family. But what would their situations be like right now, had Charley followed her heart and not her parents' wishes? (p. 122).

I appreciated the fact that these two looked back on their relationship with fresh eyes and that they both realized that they were both at fault for the dissolution of their relationship. The blame was shared, and one these two got past that, the romance started moving along, which happened later in the book than I was expecting.

The one thing that I found somewhat disappointing with Night Storm is the fact that the romance wasn't completely resolved by the end. When I picked up this book I was aware that it was a series, but what I wasn't aware of was the fact that it seems to be a series devoted to Charlotte and Cameron, rather than one that simply focuses on a different couple in each book. At least that's my speculation. Thus, I found the focus on the mystery and slow moving nature of Charlotte and Cameron's relationship to be somewhat unexpected. While Charlotte and Cameron's relationship does move forward, they are not settled, and this may bother some readers. I think there is a lot of potential for conflict between Charlotte and Cameron, and I can see this being the focus of subsequent books. While I was surprised by this technique, there was enough resolution for my to feel that I don't have to read the next book right away (which is usually my problem with series), but I certainly will be back for more.

My verdict? Night Storm is an excellent choice for historical romance fans that are looking for a strong mystery element alongside their romance. An added bonus here, is the author's well developed characters an carefully considered romance. I highly recommend this one.

Night Storm by Tracey Devlyn is a 2014 TDC Creations, Inc publication. I was provided a copy of this this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Night Storm is an awesome combination of historical romance and murder mystery. While the author admits she found no evidence of there ever being a female apothecary from this time frame, I think there were women who worked in this field alongside men but were never credited. So, I found Charlotte to be an interesting character with brains and sensitivity and no longer dependent upon men. She never bows to a man's authority and challenges them when need be. She is fiercely loyal to her assistant, Piper and Piper's brother, Felix. She works long hours and is dedicated to her field and highly respected. However, five years ago the man she thought she might marry broke her heart and she has never really recovered from it.

Cameron is a proud man who has made a name for himself as a thief- taker. His job can of course be very dangerous and one evening he is ends up the worse for wear and needs medical assistance, which leads him to Charlotte's door. She does the right thing by patching him up, but hopes she never has to endure another painful encounter with him. However, a night out at the theater turns deadly and Felix could be a person of interest. Although Cameron usually works in theft, he is asked to look into the murder due to the lady's prominent standing in the ton. Because Charlotte was there when the body was discovered, she finds herself facing Cameron once again. The more time they spend together to more painful it is to think they may not be able to at least forge a friendship. Cameron's insistence on questioning Felix puts the two of them at odds, but slowly the truth about what happened between them all those years ago comes pouring out However, too much time has passed, there is too much water under the bridge, and both of them have changed. Is it too little, too late? Or can the couple let go of the past so they can face a happy future together as a team?

The murder mystery is just as big of a story as the romance and will keep you guessing all they way through the book. I never would have guessed how it would all play out. Cameron and Charlotte make a great detective team and the side characters, such as Cameron's ward and Charlotte's assistant make an all around great cast of characters. The romance is sensual and quite emotional at times. I liked Charlotte and Cameron a lot and so it was hard to see them go through so much heartache. But, maybe, just maybe they will be able to forgive one another. Wait! Is that a HEA I hear? Why yes, I believe it is!

This is the first book in a new series and it came charging out of the gate at full speed. I'm really exited about the series. Overall this one gets a 4.5 rounded to 5.

This one grabs your right from the start. I love second chance books and you can't help, but want it for these two characters the more you get to know them. I highly recommend this one! Charlotte is an apothecary, it's unheard of for a woman to be one, but she's made a successful career. Charlotte hasn't seen Cameron in years, but one fateful night he comes to her door in need of her skills. She thought that was last she was going to see of him, but fate has other plans there is a murder. Now Charlotte and Cameron are on the hunt for the truth about the murder. They reluctantly somewhat work together to solve the case, but will the murderer make Charlotte her next victim before the truth is uncovered?

I can't say how exciting this was. I've been waiting a long time for this day! Sure it has only been a year in the making, maybe even less but you don't know how it was just wating. And now it's Here!!!!

Tracey has taken to self-publish and I think that's pretty awesome since many of the authors I read has or are looking into that now a days. It's awesome to take hold and make plans for yourself.

But any who, this is a totally different and new series from her spy thriller series the Nexus. Sure the hero is a familiar face and name because he had an itty bitty part in the Nexus novels and the heroine made a short stop in Latymer too, but this is a totally new series. I swear I thought it was going to be apart of the Nexus when she hinted at it way back when, but I suppose things change and for the best right? Yup!

Oh Cameron Adair. How he got sexier in this book of his. Being a thief-taker not just makes him sneaky, mysterious and dangerous because of his work, but now he's playing detective and solving crimes? Heck yes that just made him even more swoon worthy! Plus we got a better look at him (pun intended LOL) in this story. When we saw him last he was an informant and detective for a "friend". I had a feeling he was going to be someone special with a great story that needed to be told. He was intriguing and mysterious and maybe even cocky? But he was brave and up to the challenge of whatever that was thrown his way. A hero~ Plus, I felt sparks triggered when Cameron was somewhat mentioned at and around the same time as Charlotte.

Now Charlotte was a great heroine for Cameron. Who knew they had so much history! She's an apothecary and from what we can find, there's nothing that said there were any female medicine women. But of course we knew they were around, just not recorded in the records by men. Anyways, Charlotte is a very smart and passionate person. She does her own thing and doesn't need the lectures and rules of men to tell her what to do. Of course her relationship with people can be distant --Cameron-- but it can also be fierce and loyal.

I might be biased because I love this author, but really, I love murder mystery crime thrillers and romance all in one! Yes it's a romance novel but it doesn't over power the whole book. The mystery is still all there and just as huge as the romance. The story also really does get you on your heels and on the edge of your seat trying to solve the crime. Plus some fling and steam is thrown in there to keep you happy.

Oh, and all the characters were fabulous. I loved their interactions and how much each of them care for one another when things get dirty. And the relationship between Cameron and Charlotte had its rough edges but as they got reacquainted, their painful past were revealed and they had to plow through. Of course they got passed it but it was not easy. Quite an angst ride I'll say.

But I loved it. I definitely can't wait for the next book!!! I'll have to read this again and definitely her Nexus series again just to have it all as one whole series and not its own series. But it totally works as a standalone story too.

I give this a 4.5 out of 5.

Night Storm introduces a new historical romance/mystery series that features Charlotte Fielding, a rare female apothecary-surgeon, and Cameron Adair, a thief-taker, who specializes in getting stuff back after it's been stolen. The two were once involved, but both their hearts were broken when Charlotte went to Scotland to study her profession. Charlotte thought Cameron should have come with her, while Cameron thought Charlotte should have stayed and become his wife. Going their separate ways, they have tried to harden their hearts against each other, but a vicious attack requiring medical attention and a puzzling murder bring them back together.

Trying to protect a young man who works for her, Charlotte is determined to clear his name. Cameron is also hired to find the murderer. Using the extensive network of friends and spies he has set up, Cam reluctantly ends up working with Charlotte, if only to keep her safe.

The mystery keeps you guessing, and the romantic tension between Charlotte and Cameron is palpable. In fact, my only criticism is that the strained muscles and roiling stomachs associated with all the tension of trying to resist each other felt a little too real. I guess that's what good description will get you!

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, especially delving into the related characters. It should provide a unique perspective in historical romance, as the main characters are middle-class who have established themselves in their own careers, but they deal with the wealthy, as well as the common people of London.

What a magnificent story! The characters are so well written! Charley and Cameron were fascinating to read! The chemistry between them was so strong, and I have no idea how they stayed apart for five years. Every moment between them was so full of emotion, I didn't want to put the book down. Tracey Devlyn made it easy to see how important these two are to each other, but boy oh boy, did she make them struggle! Does it make me a bad person if I enjoyed every minute of that struggle? It was just done so well! The other characters in the story were great too! I know this is going to be a really great series, because I already want to know more about the people I've met in this book. I have officially been sucked into this world. There is no going back now. Jules.....oh my goodness! I know he has to have a very interesting story to tell, and I hope it comes soon. The mystery was very intriguing. I didn't figure it out, and there were quite a few surprises, very scandalous surprises. Tracey also did a great job with the creepy characters too. They made quite the impression. It was very easy to picture all these people in my mind. This was a great story with amazing characters, and I highly recommend reading it. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm usually not a huge fan of historical romance and I've never read any book by Tracey Devlyn. However, since I'm on the Dangerous Darlings street team of which Tracey Devlyn is one of the authors featured, I decided to give it a try when Tracey offered a copy of Night Storm for review. And I've gotta say I did enjoy the book very much.

At the start of the book under Author's Notes, Tracey mentioned that in history books, there is no evidence that female apothecaries existed. I liked it that Tracey created a female apothecary in her book. As she said "history is full of women and men who stepped outside of society's confining box to make a difference" and "part of the fun of reading fiction is to escape into a different world". Indeed, reading Night Storm brought me into a different world. I was brought back to 1804 London where two lovers reunite after they broke each other's hearts, where a vicious attack requiring medical attention and a puzzling murder brought them back together.

I really liked both Charlotte and Cameron's characters - both strong yet vulnerable at heart. The chemistry between them was great. The suspense of the murder also kept me on my toes and I just couldn't stop reading. Definitely going to read more of Tracey Devlyn's books.

Oh.My.Gosh. Ahhh! I love, love, love Tracey Devlyn. Her Nexus series is what got me into reading historical romance in the first place. I could not wait to get my hands on this first book in the Bones & Gemstones series. Ask Tracey - I may have asked a time or two if it was ready yet...HA! I love that her historical romances are full of suspense, mystery and intrigue. Charlotte and Cameron were fabulous. I love that these are characters we briefly met in another work and now we get to see their story play out. And it played out beautifully! Charlotte is smart, strong and she doesn't let anyone walk all over her. Cameron is stubborn as can be, but smart and unrelenting in getting what he wants. This is a great historical romance mystery. Five huge stars...I'd give ten if I could. I cannot wait for more in this awesome new series from Tracey Devlyn! Great job, Tracey!

I received an electronic ARC for review purposes, but this did not influence my review in any way.

After reading Tracey Devlyn’s previous books, in the Nexus series, I was immensely interested in her new series, beginning with this novel. The main characters of this novel made a brief appearance in one of the Nexus books, leaving me completely curious as to why their relationship seemed so strained. That question is answered, as it is revealed that Cameron Adair, a thief-taker, and Charlotte Fielding, an apothecary-surgeon, were once involved. This historical suspense novel kept me engaged, futilely trying to figure out just who the killer was, and what the motive behind the crime was as well. If you like historical romances, or even mystery/suspense novels, this is the book for you. *I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.*

A great fast paced Historical romance with interesting characters and an unusual setting.

Charlotte inherited her father's apothecary when he died and as the only woman to do this work, she's either loved or loathed by the people she knows. For Cameron it might be a bit of both. He's always loved her, but when she left him behind and went to Scotland to study he hated her for doing so. It isn't until years later, when one of her employees is threatened that they're thrown back together. And as they solve the case, the feelings from so long ago start to awaken again.

Tracey Devlyn's style lends for a quick read that you'll want to savor at the same time. Fun and interesting, she brings a lightness to the story which has quite a dastardly plot. I'd reccomend it to any HR reader!

Thank you, Tracey Devlyn for re-introducing me to historical romance. I’ve been away from the genre for too long! Night Storm is about Charlotte Fielding a rare female apothecary and Cameron Adair a thief taker. I thoroughly enjoyed the premise of this book as I love stories about reunited lovers who solve mysteries. I was totally engaged the entire time and couldn’t put the book down. This is the first novel I’ve read by Tracey Devlyn and it certainly won’t be the last. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next installment in the series. I’d also like to disclose that I received a copy of Night Storm in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Reviewed on my blog, Becky on Books.

An excellent historical mystery with a touch of romance!

This one went right down to the wire--I only figured the mystery out (but not quite all the reasons behind it--a very twisted individual is involved) pages before the big reveal--and that was after turning back to the first time we saw that particular character to confirm something about their appearance. I love it when a mystery keeps you guessing!

The historical elements were a lot of fun too. The struggles that Charlotte had as a female apothecary at a time when few (if any--but Tracey makes an excellent point about this in her author's note) women held the position provided an interesting parallel to the #HeforShe movement that's been in the news, especially this week. (If you didn't see them yet, check out Emma Watson's excellent UN address and author Chuck Wendig's blog posts.) Cameron's job as a "thief-taker" (an early private investigator) is fascinating. And I've never been quite so jealous of a fictional character before--he got to touch the Rosetta Stone! (The actual rock, not the software program, obviously. I especially enjoyed that it was a female character who was explaining to the male the potential worth of the amazing artifact. Cam was drawn to it, but described it as "a rock defaced by the scribblings of a child".)

I was very pleased to discover that Night Storm is the first in a new series that will feature Charley and Cameron as a crime-solving couple--without realizing it, I started two such series this week, having finally listened to Naked in Death. I'm looking forward to continuing both series!

The romance--a second-chance one, yay!--offered plenty of chemistry and angst throughout much of the novel, and there was plenty of "Just give it up! You two are perfect for each other!" good-natured grumbling coming from this reader as she read. My only real complaint is that the resolution of that portion of the plot seemed to be resolved rather abruptly--he went from she can't be in my world; it's too dangerous to she's the "one-day-soon" mother of my children and she went from well, this was nice--gotta go make my dinner appointment to hey, let's continue the tour! Is that your bedchamber I see? really, really quickly. That was where I wanted them to go, though, and the scene that follows is highly enjoyable to read, so I can't complain too much. ;)

This is definitely a series I'll be reading more of.

Rating: 4 stars / B+

Posted on What I'm Reading

Wow! Seriously, I'm truly impress with Night Storm. Honestly, I went in not knowing what I was going to find. I haven't read a lot of Tracey Devlyn's books, even though I have them. Anyway, we have a second chance lover story between Cameron Adair (Cam) and Charlotte Fielding (Charley). They had a falling out five years earlier. Charley always thought it was from Cam's pride.
"It's as fragile as a strand of cotton and as unbending as the finest steel. Pride's an inherent part of every man, young or old, and it governs their every action and every thought, good or bad. And it's the one place a woman can do the most destruction. In my experience, men need to be handle with the softest gloves."
However, there was more to their fall out that's told later in the story.

So, we have the rekindling of love, but that's not the main focus of the story. Actually it's murder of a prominent patroness of the Augusta Theater (Lady Winthrop). Basically, Charley finds herself embroil of a murder cause she wants to help Felix, after all he found the body. Cam was called in to help solve the murder even though he's a thief-taker. Anyway, Cam and Charley work together to solve the mystery behind the death of Lady Winthrop. One of the challenges they need to overcome is trust. After Cam broke Charley's heart, she lost her trust in him.

Overall, Night Storm was amazing. I love the fact that Tracey had you guessing on who the murder was, and I didn't guess who the real culprit was even when it was reveal. There we little twist that made you second guess the person was. I liked that it wasn't your typical story. Let me clarify. You have Charley who has a profession, an apothecary which wasn't a typical job for a woman and Cam who was below the poverty line to rise above. Not a typical regency setting, and it was done in a fabulous job. So, here is the bottom line: If you are looking for a book that's not your typical regency, you might want to try Night Storm.

Favorite Lines:
"Because I know you." Confidence laced his words. "Secretiveness is not in your nature. You've been an open book from the first day I met you."
"Life has a way of closing the book, page by page. The naive young woman you used to know disappeared chapters ago."
His gaze traveled over her features with a thoroughness that left her breathless. A gaze that seemed to say, "No, she's still on the page. Tattered and dinged, but still there."

I received a digital ARC in return for a review.

I have read Ms Devlyn's previous books and have enjoyed them. She writes stories that have strong women and not the usual historical romance plot lines. Night Storm is another enjoyable read and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Charlotte Fielding is a female character with an unusual job for a woman; she is an apothecary-surgeon. After training in Scotland, she has taken over the store her father ran and has become quite successful. Cameron Adair is a thief-taker who was once the love of Charlotte's life.

When Cameron is severely injured during while working on one of his cases, he goes to Charlotte for help. She, of course, helps patch him up but sends him on his way as soon as she has put the last knot in the stitches!

Enter the mystery: this is really the best part of the book. After watching the brother (Felix) of her apprentice (Piper) audition for a part in a play, the three come across the body of a woman who has been stabbed. Charlotte becomes involved, first by taking a piece of evidence and then trying to protect Felix from becoming a suspect. The owner of the theater hires Cameron to investigate, giving him ample opportunity to stay in touch with Charlotte.

Circumstances throw them together during the course of the investigation and little by little they find out what happened five years ago when she left him to go to Scotland. This is the weaker part of the story, as really neither fell out of love with each other and the "rift" was easily repaired.

Cue the mystery again: the villain is unexpected and the motive even more so.

This was a really good story and I recommend it highly!

Tracey Devlyn is one of those authors who seems to get better with every book - when she started with a high bar to begin her career. In her Nexus series, she introduced characters Cam and Charlotte in a short scene, and is now giving them their own crime solving series.

Charlotte is an apothecary surgeon in 1804 London. She has finally rebuilt her father's business and believes she has recovered from when Cameron broke her heart five years ago. When he appears on her doorstep and she has to treat his wounds, she realizes her own emotional wounds never really healed.

Cam is determined not to let Charley go again, even if it means they will just be friends. When he is hired to solve a murder in a theater and realizes she is involved, he uses the case as a reason to be near her a lot.

Her employee Felix found the body of a woman in the theater, and his sister and Charlotte were present. Charley realizes later that she had hidden a piece of evidence in her purse by accident, but is afraid to tell anyone as it may incriminate Felix.

She is unsettled by the reappearance of Cam in her life, but works with him to try and solve the crime.

Devlyn packs interesting history, intrigue, action, and an entertaining cast of dimensional characters into this novella. While I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review, it is the truth that I cannot wait for the next story about Cam and Charlotte.

This was a lot more suspense/murder mystery than romance in my opinion, not that I did not enjoy it, on the contrary in fact - I just wasn't prepared for that. If I understand correctly this is also the first book of a planned series that will feature this story's main characters, Charlotte and Cameron, as a mystery solving couple in the next books to come. If I got that right then I wouldn't have minded waiting for the "consummation" of the love slowly burning between Charlotte and Cam. Now the love scene, though quite nicely written and executed came, to me, a bit rushed and at a time when I was mostly interested in the solving of the murder case.

I did enjoy the characters, main characters as well as the supporting staff, and I hope I will revisit most of them in the second book to come. In particular I enjoyed the strong feminist perspective, from Charlotte's situation as a working apothecary-surgeon who has taken on a female apprentice to the misogyny of the society in general and one of the minor characters in particular. I also very much enjoyed that these characters all come from simple backgrounds, instead of the more common rich people that tend to populate this kind of stories.

It was a nice read.

I have enjoyed Tracey's book previously and was looking forward to this one. Sadly, I was disapointed with this new title.

This is a second chance story between Cameron and Charlotte (Charley). Typically I love, love, love second chance stories- there's chemistry from before and angles to be worked out. I was really let down that the chemistry while present, wasn't as strong as I thought it'd be. As the story played out it seemed to me that Charley and Cameron had worked all the demons out prior to be brought back together except for the hurt of their split in the first place. I felt that when that was explained sufficiently it was too easily resolved- both characters were to accepting of it and they moved on.

The murder mystery of the plot was fantastic though. I was kept waiting to see who was the bad guy- I loved this aspect of the book. Tracey really portrayed a fantastic mystery and all the steps involved to solve it.

Overall this book was a good little read. Even though the characters didn't speak to me I may give them another chance in the next book of the series.

This is a great book! This is the first book in the Bones & Gemstones Series. Charlotte is a female apothecary-surgeon which is very rare in her time. She was once in love with Cameron but got her heart broken when he left her when she was sent to Scotland to study apothecary. Charlotte knows that Cameron has been in town working as a thief-taker and has tried to avoid running into him. However, when he shows up on her doorstep hurt she doesn't hesitate to help him. Which also bring up the love for each other that they tried to forget about. The young man that works for Charlotte is being framed for murder, and Charlotte is determined to clear his name. Cameron is hired to investigate the murder, and now they must work together to find the truth. This book had me hooked from the first page until the last. I loved the romance, suspense and the mystery and I have to say left me guessing until the end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I enjoyed this book, I am a sucker for second chance love stories.

I just didn't love this book and while it is well written, it just didn't grab me like the Nexus series did.

I spent a good portion of the book trying to figure out what caused Cam and Charlotte break up in the first place. And even when the truth came out, I was still confused.

I thought the mystery portion of the story was much more riveting than the romance. The only real love scene in the book comes near the very end and seemed to come out of the blue. I am not complaining - but it seemed like it was just thrown in for the heck of it.

From this point on, the rest of the story just flies by. The mystery is wrapped up in literally a few pages and the book just ends.

I realize that this is the first in the series and it appears that these two will be in the next book, but I would have liked a bit of closure between them before moving on to their next adventure.

I will most definitely read Night Rain when it comes out and I hope it focuses on Jules.

This is the first book in a new historical mystery series by Tracey Devlyn. Cameron Adair, a thief taker, and Charlotte Fielding, an apothecary, were first introduced in Devlyn’s exciting and romantic debut Napoleonic-era Nexus series last year.

There is a trend in historical romance for mystery series with a romantic element and this aptly fits that description.

This is a very well-written, plot-driven story, with excellent pacing and an interesting mystery, however, this reader prefers more romance in her historical romances. Romance readers expecting a central focus on a love story between a hero and heroine might be little disappointed as most of it is centered on the mystery.

Fascinating, riveting and dangerous! What a beginning to this new series, "Bones and Gemstones"! A definite keeper! Heart pumping, filled with the right mixture of romance, sensuality, suspense and danger. A female Apothecary-Surgeon in 1804 London, how fascinating and exciting. Wickedly delicious and exciting!
I thought this author's last series was exciting, and adventurous, but this series is marked to be even more adventurous, exciting and simply riveting. Not to miss! I look forward to Charlotte and Cameron's next grand adventure! Well done, indeed!!

Night Storm I received a digital copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved Night Storm because it was so perfectly filled with mystery, excitement and just the right pinch of longing and love to bring readers a heart thumping good read. I really liked that the author appreciated the concept of not all is as it seems and all good things are worth the wait, because she fulfills both of them so well. Cameron and Charlotte are wonderful together. Right from the start you totally feel for them and the journey that they're on and its great how the author brought them back to eachother once again. Love stories with a reunite is always tricky but she pulls it off fabulously. Night storm is romantic, suspenseful, and vivid. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I enjoyed reading this book. the character development is excellent. The story pulls you in and transports you back in time. You feel as if you are there walking the streets of old England, or standing in the shop while customers come and go. You want to reach out and touch their them, and you just know you are smelling the herbs in Charlotte's shop. To be able to make the reader feel as if they are standing in the midst of the story is truly a gift and Tracey Devlyn Displays her mastery of that gift in this book.
