A devastating phone call. A chance encounter. A summer that changes everything…
I planned to spend the summer searching for teaching jobs, not becoming a nanny for a hockey-playing farm boy with two grieving little sisters and too much weight on his shoulders. But something about the Hamilton girls—and their brooding big brother—pulls at my heart.
Juggling sorrow, guardianship, and a struggling family farm, Ezra barely keeps it together. He doesn’t ask for help, but I stay anyway, almost challenging he let me help him.
As the summer days stretch longer, laughter returns to the farmhouse. In a moment of shared vulnerability, Ezra and I cross an invisible line. We agree it’s only one night. Just to get it out of our systems. Pretending it didn’t mean anything? That’s the biggest lie of all.
Healing isn’t neat or easy, and the one thing I told myself I couldn’t want is exactly what I can’t walk away from…
First I want to say to the author- thank you for allowing me to read this book before it was openly published ❤️
This was such a sweet book, both Ayla and Ezra are such deeply emotional characters and Ezra was not afraid to show or admit to his feelings at all and I loved that about him. The ending was of course *chefs kiss*💗
I received an ARC copy, thank you Taylor Delong. It’s been a pleasure reading this😄
“Yes. Sometimes our best looks like failure. Sometimes our best means taking help from others. Sometimes our best is great. They’re loved. You love them. That’s the best you can give them always.” My favorite quote of the book
This review is divided into three parts: early impressions (starting approximately six chapters in), a 50% check-in, and my final thoughts. I try to keep things spoiler-free.
💭Initial Thoughts 🤔 The opening chapters carry emotional weight of grief. While there’s no graphic content, the tone is definitely on the heavier side.
Ezra’s nickname for his sister, Olive, is adorable. Ayla already feels like a perfect fit for them.
📍A bonus check in at 30% I am in tears, i feel for Olive, I am 25 and would react the same exact way.
⏳ (approximately) 50% check in ⏳ Spice is 🌶️🌶️, if that’s a deciding factor for you (no judgement here🤭) The heaviness is still there but not as bad as the beginning, not wanting to cry nearly as much. I love Ezra and Ayla’s relationship, I love their relationship with the girls.
💭Final thoughts 🤔 Summer Puckin’ is a slow burn hockey romance (with little hockey), with some spice (I adored Ch. 31 and the mirror🤭) and some sweet moments in throughout. The heavy theme of grief sticks for a majority of the book but gets better towards the end, I feel for them because at the age of 25 I would also shut down just like Olive. Oddly enough though the heaviness is what kept me pulled in, to see if they could work through the trauma that will never truly go away. From the final chapter to epilogue I am in tears (good tears) This is my first book by Taylor Delong and overall I would give it a pretty solid 4 of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am definitely going back and reading the first three books.
ARC Review – A Heartfelt Hockey Romance with All the Feels 💔🏒🍦
Book 4 in the Aspenridge College Hockey Series brings us Ezra and Ayla’s story—a beautiful, emotional rollercoaster that tugs at the heartstrings in all the best ways.
After a tragic accident, Ezra suddenly finds himself the guardian of his two younger sisters, juggling grief, responsibility, and life on the family farm. When he meets Ayla—his sisters’ sweet, steady teacher—at a school event, it feels like fate. Ayla steps in as their summer nanny, and the bond she forms with the girls is as touching as the slow-burn connection building between her and Ezra.
One scene that completely shattered me: little Indy saying, “It’s not my tummy. My heart hurts.” 😭 The raw emotion packed into that one line was gut-wrenching and unforgettable. Despite the growing love between Ezra and Ayla, they tread carefully—not wanting to disrupt the safe, nurturing environment they’ve created for the girls. But love finds a way, and when they finally tell the girls, the response is pure joy: now they get to see Ayla every day. 💕
One of the most wholesome, tear-worthy moments? When Ezra reassures his sisters, “We’re family… and no one gets left behind. Like ohana.” 🐾💙 (Cue the Lilo & Stitch reference perfection!) This story is full of tender moments, ice cream, cookies, enchiladas, and small-town love. Hockey may be in the background, but family takes center stage—and it’s beautiful to witness.
📚💞 A must-read for fans of emotional romance, found family, and healing love.
4/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️ Thank you Taylor Delong for the eARC!!! This is my 2nd book in the Aspenridge College Hockey Series by Taylor Delong and I Loved it. This book was a whole diffent feeling than the last book in this series. This story is of Ezra and Ayla, and how they navigate grief and trama while falling for each other. Their story is a slow burn hockey romance not too much hockey but enough, with some added sweetness and spice. 🤭 Throughout their story there is a very heavy theme of grief, Ezra Hamilton and his little sisters, Olive and Indy, lose their parent in a snowmobile accident and Ezra become the girls legal guardian. Ezra has to give up his dream of hockey, figure out how to parent his sisters, finish his last semester of school, run the family farm and more while trying to pay all the bills. Ayla becomes a huge part in the Hamilton’s lives after meeting them as a substitute teacher and helps comfort Indy before her first mother day without her mother. From that day on Ayla almost becomes like a motherly figure to the girls while falling for Ezra. This story had a hold on my blubbering like a baby, especially at the end. I loved the found family in this book as well, the whole hockey team, former and current, and coaches were there for the Hamiltons as well as Ayla, it warmed my heart. Definitely need to go back and read the first 2 books in this series since ive loved 3 and 4!
Oh, my pucking heart!!!! I loved this book so much!!! Summer Pucking by Taylor Delong was un-put-downable. I laughed, cried, and fist-pumped a few times throughout this book. I loved this storyline; it has drama, heartbreak, angst, a slow-burn love story, and oh, the spice. Taylor Dleong has created a series that I am obsessed over. I loved the characters in this book; they were funny, loving, loyal, and had an undeniable chemistry. This book is a contemporary sports romance that touches on a sensitive subject, so please check the CW to ensure this book is suitable for you. I love books that will take you on an emotional journey, and this book did just that. I love all the characters and think it's amazing how Taylor includes them in each book in this series. This book is part of the Aspenridge College Hockey Series and can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting with Pucked Up Plans.
Ayla was independent and loving and would put everyone else before herself. I loved that about her. She was selfless and determined. She had a big heart she shared with those closest to her. Ezra was stubborn and had to change his plans in life unexpectedly and, just as selfless as Ayla. I enjoyed their chemistry throughout this book. Their banter was on point, and their growing feelings toward each other was a chef's kiss for epic romances. I can't wait to see what comes next from Taylor Delong.
When I closed the book Sweet as Puck I wanted to bake cookies. I knew I would need the cookies when Summer Puckin' released. I expected it to be sad. I didn't expect to cry crocodile tears. I expected it to be intense, I just didn't realize how intense it would get.
Ezra Hamilton avoided the farm. It was not his dream. He wanted to be on the ice with a puck not in a field picking berries. It only takes one phone call to have his world come crashing down.
Ezra trades the ice for the fields. Ezra trades puck bunnies for two little sisters. One phone leaves him grasping for a miracle. He isn't asking for much just a little help with two broken little girls while he tries to work a miracle.
His miracle is called Ayla. Her beautiful heart was comforting Indy when Ezra walked up to Indy at the school. So begins the summer of love. So begins a new beginning, a time for healing. The drama was crazy at times with little girls breaking down and Ezra not knowing what to do. The emotions are all over the place. Ezra is doing his best, but is it enough?
Miracles do come true but only if you let them. You can find love if you aren't looking. A new beginning can be a forever if you have patience. I laughed. I cried. I hoped. I cheered as a romance blossomed.
This is my second hockey romance and of course by the fabulous Taylor Delong. When I first read sweet as puck I knew I had to get my hands on this read too! Ezra’s story is so deep and beautiful all at the same time. Battling the life of a hockey college player to being thrown into the world of parenthood when tragedy strikes is no easy task for anyone. The way he takes it in stride and just figures it out is amazing. And walks in Ayla. The slow burn between the two is what I enjoyed the most. She’s there helping him with the girls and somehow fits into their routines and dynamic like she was meant to be there. The way in which they team together to give themselves a try and have such a big heart for telling the girls about them and caring so deeply about how and when and how they matter so much in their decision to be together 🥹.
This story is special. It takes you through grief and confusion. It takes you through a man figuring out a new world in the blink of an eye and when he opens them love is waiting when he never expected it.
Ezra Hamilton's life changed in an instant. After a snowmobile accident that claimed the lives of his parents, he's now legal guardian to his little sisters Olive and Indy. He's lost his dream of playing hockey and has to figure out how to parent 2 girls, run their family farm, and finish his last semester of school while the bills keep coming.
Ayla Rudin's first day as a substitute teacher has her comforting Indy before the school's Mother's Day activity. From that moment, Ayla became a pillar for the Hamiltons. She spends the summer caring for the girls, keeping them busy with fun activities, teaching them to cook, and slowly falling for Ezra. And the feeling is mutual for Ez. The four experience many ups and downs along the way. Every failure hits hard and every success is duly celebrated. Then there's the Aspenridge Hockey fam. From the coaches to the players current and former, most especially Millie Keely and her crew, they show up for the Hamiltons without fail. I truly enjoyed this book and its characters.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
What a cute and heartwarming story, with a little sad in between.
My heart definitely broke for the Hamailton siblings ♡ But watching their growth as a family and individuals was heartwarming. I absolutely LOVED how Ayla was their knight and helped Ezra with everything that landed in his lap after the sudden death of his parents. He became a parent, a business owner, and had to put his life of hockey on hold at just 22.
I loved following this family! I cried with them and for them. I laughed and got giddy and rejoiced for the little girls and how they grew SOOO much!
Being a mom of two girls around the same ages at Olive & Indy, my heart really FELT while reading this story. Taylor did an amazing job with this book and showed how much a community and people come together and become a family you never knew you had.
I really loved Ayla's place in this story and how strong she was for the Hamiltons. Her heart was so big and gave so much for people who needed it. It was definitely empowering to see both sides of the give and take situation of grief.
I was so excited to read Ezra’s story! This is a slow burn hockey romance with loads of sweet moments and low spice.
Tragedy strikes Ezra’s family during his senior hockey season. His parents passed away in an accident leaving him as the guardian of his two little sisters and the family farm. Ez is overwhelmed but giving it his all for his family. He dropped out of his last semester and is focused on the girls.
Ayla is subbing for the librarian at a school and notices a little girl crying. She decides she needs to help her. Indy won’t tell her what is wrong but since they are having a Mother’s Day celebration she guesses her mom isn’t coming. Then Ezra appears for his sister. Once she realizes who he is she knows what’s wrong.
When they all run into each other at the grocery store, Ayla helps him and a tentative friendship forms.
All of these characters are great and I loved the story. This story takes you through grief, sibling love, guilt and true love.
ARC Review~ Oh my gosh I absolutely love this book!! I’ll definitely be reading this again. I received an ACR copy of Summer Pucking and it is book 4 in the Aspenridge College Hockey Series, but can be read as a standalone. This book tells Ezra and Ayla’s story and it’s an amazing, heartwarming, slow burn with a fantastic sibling bond between Ezra and his sisters.
Ezra unexpectedly finds himself struggling with being the guardian to his two younger sisters after a family tragedy. Ayla becomes a lifeline to the Hamilton family in the uncertainty of how to adjust to their new normal. Ayla offers to nanny and help take care of the girls for the summer, she bonds and cares for not only Indy and Olive but Ezra as well. I absolutely love how she supports them and their healing process, this book has so many sweet moments and is written wonderfully. I love the emotional development in the characters and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This book started off heavy and emotional and had me hooked from the start. Ezra is 25 and his life has completely changed from what he thought it would be. Instead of college, hockey and having fun, Ezra is now raising his 2 younger sisters... Olive and Indy and running the farm due to the unexpected death of their parents. The hardest thing for Ezra is admitting he needs help. Ayla inserts herself into their lives and helps Ezra with the girls. This slow burn romance battles grief and loss and fresh starts. It showed that love forns where you least expected it. I loved how it showed that the family you create for yourself can help make up for family you have lost. The found family they created with the hockey team warmed my heart. There were some definite teary moments throughout the story and it was handled well. I was very invested in the characters. The ending was very emotional.
I was given a complimentary copy but voluntarily chose to review
This one was a bit rough around the edges at times, but not in a bad way. More in an “I’m trying to figure this out because I’m suddenly the parental figure to my sisters who are both under the age of 8” way. Ezra is trying to keep his head above water while navigating the grief of both his sisters and himself, and Ayla is the perfect fit to every puzzle this small family has in the works.
Ayla helps mend broken hearts, clear up confusion chaos, make two little girls feel some hope, and help Ezra realize that he’s got so much support if he would just ask. They have a slightly slow burn, but I think that’s what this family needs. Time to change, adjust, love, and find a new way to be everything to each other without their parents to guide them. Luckily, it all works out, even with the bumpy road from mourning to remembering, and these four manage it all with humor and grace.
Summer Puckin’ is book Four in The Aspenridge College Hockey Series. I absolutely love this series. I have been fortunate enough to be able to read each one. I fell in love with hockey romance from Taylor. The way she writes is just amazing. I loved Ezra and Ayla. The playlist fit this story perfectly. There were moments within the story that were emotional but I feel like all of the characters handled the emotional moments as well as can be. I love how real and raw the topics were in this book. I loved how well Ayla first just right. I really love how you still see past characters within each of the books. I am so thankful that I have been able to read about The Hamilton family and the way they overcame the grief.
Make sure you have tissues nearby when you read this story! Ezra is a senior college hockey player and has given his all to the team & his sport. When his parents pass away unexpectedly he is suddenly thrust into the role of guardian for his younger sisters but also has to start taking care of the family homestead. Ayla is subbing for another teacher when she sees one of his sisters crying but she won't say why but once Ezra appears it becomes clear as to why. I loved how their relationship grew, how Ayla helped his sisters and how his sisters bonded with Ayla. This is a very touching story.
So many emotions! Summer Puckin’ was the fourth book in Taylor’s Aspenridge College Hockey series. It can be read as a stand-alone but, if you haven’t, check out the rest of the series! It had lots of angst but was also filled with sweet moments!
Ezra’s life had been turned upside down when he became the guardian for his two younger sisters. Trying to grieve, take care of them, and run the farm was taking a toll. Luckily, he found Ayla, or well, she found them. Becoming the nanny for the summer was everything they ever needed. But what would happen when summer ended?
Oh my goodness!! These two were so sweet. And the slow burn!! Loved watching them bond with the girls while becoming closer with each other. Such a tragic situation to have to go through but what was waiting for them at the end helped them heal. I’m so glad they were able to find one another!
This book talks about Ezra who gets guardianship of his two younger siblings Indy & olive after his parents died at the young age of 22 and needs help and lots of it ! Enter Ayla a new teacher at his sister’s school who they love and asks to help him by being his new nanny for the summer ! That’s how their love story begins ! Ezra & Ayla don’t want let anything get between for the girls but the girls love Ayla just as much and open up to her when they can’t for Ezra ! The cameo were everything from the other characters !!
I received this as an ARC review & I’m so glad I did I loved it !!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ayla and Ezra's story had me gutted from the beginning. I can't imagine what Ezra was going through, losing his parents and having to take care of his sisters. This story had be crying, laughing and cheering and it was perfect to sit on the couch during a hot summer day. Ezra's and Ayla's story was probably my favorite of the series and Taylor hit it out of the park again. I was upset when the book finished. I wanted so much more of this cute little family. I can't wait for the next Taylor book!
I really enjoyed Summer Puckin'—it's a softer, slower kind of love story that sneaks up on you. Ezra isn't the typical loud, cocky hockey guy, which made me like him even more. He's juggling too much between raising his sisters and running the farm, and watching him slowly open up was honestly very moving. I liked how the romance built gradually, with the main character stepping in to help without trying to "fix" everything. Their one-night deal was clearly never going to be just one night, but I was still rooting for them to figure it out. This book felt different from the others in the series—in a good way. It was a bit quieter, more emotional, and it allowed for real growth between the characters. Taylor DeLong continues to show that she can write with both charm and depth. It's a great addition to your book collection. Happy Reading...enjoy!
I absolutely loved Ezra and Ayla’s story! The way they ended up finding each other was when Ezra was dealing with some of the hardest times in his life and trying to find a new normal for him and his family, and Ayla came in and helped piece things together and they found that they could help each other heal in ways they never thought they would. Their love was so sweet and although they tried to fight it at first, when they finally decided to give it a try they found out they are better together. I cannot wait to read what’s next!
This was an ARC read and there was no compensation for this review.
This book was such a sweet smutty romance.
What I loved the most about this book was how vulnerable the MMC was. He showed emotion and you realise how enormous his situation is because he opens himself up. It makes you think deeper.
The FMC is this sugary sweet ray of sunshine that just fits in. Their chemistry is a slow burn.
The book was a little predictable but all round a great easy read.
This is book 4 in the Aspenridge college hockey series. This is a slow burn romance and has some heavy emotions at the beginning. I found myself pulled into this story from the beginning. I found myself tearing up a few times while I read this, some were happy tears. I just loved how you can feel so much with characters in this story, very well written that’s for sure. Ezra and Ayla’s story is absolutely beautiful.
I thoroughly fell in love with Summer Puckin’. It was heat-harming as heart-wrenching. Erza, a college student, just about ready to graduate, both of his parents were killed in an accident. Leaving him to step up to take care of his two younger sisters, Indy (6) and Olive (8). Ayla comforts Indy where she is interning as a teacher. It is a small town and everyone helps the grieving family especially Ayla. The story was so well written that I was glued to story until the end.
To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I have completely fallen for Ezra. He is by far the best book boyfriend I have read in a while. He is a strong male who is not afraid to be vulnerable but also will step up and do anything for his family. Ayla is the perfect match for Ezra and a beautiful character for the female lead. My heart strings were pulled the entire read. This is a perfect mix of sports romance, slow burn, and spice all together!
Dang Taylor! You pulled out all the tropes for this one and wrapped in the most beautiful package. The story is gripping with the heartbreaking moments and the heartwarming, as Ezra navigates becoming the guardian for his younger siblings. The way Ayla stepped up and helped was sweet.
The slow burn romance kept me so invested, as I loved the way their story played out.
🌸ARC Review🌸 Absolutely loved this book! This is the second book I've read by Taylor and needless to say, I will be picking more up! This books was written beautifully about chosen family, appreciating those who are around, and finding a new way of life after a huge love altering event. I read it as an ebook and will be picking up a copy for my trophy shelf.
This book was so cute. I loved the storyline throughout the whole book. The dynamic between the FMC and the MMC was perfect. The emotions of the story and the spicy scenes were a perfect balance I felt. There were time I was jealous of the FMC as I wanted to feel and be treated like that by a man. It was hard not to love the girls in the story as well. I will always enjoy a HEA as well.
I absolutely loved this book. My heart broke for Ezra, Olive and Indy. I know how it feels to lose a parent in your early 20’s but to lose both would be even more devastating. I’m sad this is the last book in the series but I’m excited to see what other books Taylor releases.
Wow loved Ezra and Ayla'a story. Healing through love. After an unexpected accident took his parents, Ezra is now Guardian of his two youngee sisters. In comes Ayla who pieces their family back together. Such a beautiful story about healing through grief. I loved this entire series.
