Courting the Fae Captain

Kill or be killed, and keep your enemies close.

In a realm ruled by power-hungry males and dark magic wielders, it’s every fae for themselves.

Aeris Lockhart wants nothing more than to escape her father and flee her court to practise alchemy. When she’s forced to participate in The Rite, an archaic ceremony in which females must compete for the hand of a lord, her dreams of freedom are replaced with deadly games and power plays.

Raithe Windaire, Captain of the Shadow Court navy, has never wanted a wife. Especially when she must fight for her very life to win his hand. With his father holding his mother ransom, he has no choice but to play the complicit pawn in the Pentad’s cruel competition. On the surface, he is the duty-bound son, but he will stop at nothing to rip out the Pentad by its roots and bring justice to the females of Rites’ past.

Aeris knows it’s a gamble, but with few allies, she must begrudgingly work with him to stay alive and free the entrapped females alongside her.

Together, they can end the Rite for good and destroy an ancient hierarchy… or die trying.

Courting the Fae Captain is a standalone instalment of the romantasy series, Romancing the Realms. If you like fierce females with feminine rage, high-stakes action, fated mates and spice, you will devour this addictive, swoony novel.

Courting the Fae Captain @chloeschapters has officially stormed into the Realms and this one isn’t here to charm, it’s here to burn it all down. 🔥💀

“Welcome to the world of magic, Shadow Wielder.”

Book 4 in the Romancing the Realms collection is out now, and if you’re craving feminine rage, deadly games, high stakes spice, and a captain who could command your soul, say less.

This book gives:
🗡️ A rebellious alchemist FMC who wants freedom, not a fairytale
💥 Court politics, bloody rites, and backroom betrayals
🩸 Found family & fierce female friendships (Dreena forever)
🖤 “To great and terrible things” this line?Tattoo it.
🔥 Enemies to lovers tension so sharp it draws blood
👑 A broody Fae Navy captain with revolution in his bones
🎭 Masquerade balls, murder, manipulation and major yearning
❤️‍🔥A cocky, rule breaking captain who calls her “little lark” every chance he gets? OH YES.

Aeris? She’s a clever, furious firestarter who’s done being used.
Raithe? Captain. Strategist. Soft for one girl only.
Together? Unstoppable.

“Oh, and little lark? Tread lightly. I am a fair male, but I can be unforgiving. Do not give me reason to regret letting you live.”

It’s spicy, subversive romantasy with teeth and you’ll love every bite.

And I LOVED how Aeris and Dreena plotted to change the world over bruises and banter.

⚠️ Side effects may include:
✨ Plotting your own escape
✨ Screaming at the spice
✨ Falling for a man who hates the system more than he loves you (at first)

💘 The Rite is a game only one can win but what if the winner burns the whole board?

🩷 Drop a ⚔️ if you’d fight the Rite
🩷 Drop a 🌊 if Raithe already has you feral
🩷 Drop a 🎭 if you’d rock a midnight masquerade and rewrite the rules

Archaic games and trials? A Lord playing his part outwardly but secretly wanting to burn it all down in support of women? YES YES YES

The found family? Chefs kiss. The friendships between these women are top-notch.
I love a story where there is deep-rooted friendship, and this one does not disappoint.
There is no shortage of romance here, and I loved seeing it develop and flourish.

This is an amazing fast paced stand alone that I couldn't put down.

The chest lid opened and I froze.
Above me, Raithe stood with the most damnable fucking smirk on his face as he looked down.
"There you are."

The Rite is an ancient tradition held by The Pentad, it's a ceremonial affair that any would-be wives entered when vying for the male in question's hand, and only one female can win. this time all females in court must compete to win the hand to the Fae captain's, Raithe, who is forced to follow the Rite rules because his mother is held captive by his own father. Aeris too was forced to participate the Rite affairs and must face deadly trials when all she wanted to do was escape the court. their encounter led to an alliance to end the Pentad and ensure the Rite traditions would never return forever. this book is one of Romancing the Realms collection, which consists of five steamy romantasy standalones!✨

It was all coming together. With Raithe by my side, as well as Sherai and Akira, we could be unstoppable. We could save our mothers. Save them all.
"We will be unstoppable," Raithe said.

the story got me hooked from the start😆 Aeris tried to run away from her home (because she didn't want to follow the Rite) and ended up getting her leg pierced by an arrow by her own father. she was neglected by her father since childhood and just live being a property to remain his position, but she's not some kind of damsel that need helping, she's sassy and smart, and Raithe is sweet golden retriever MMC that we all need🥰 the story is well written and easy to read with fascinating and fast paced plot. the characters are also well-developed, I loved the found family trope in this book!✨ overall, it was very enjoyable read, there are twists and turns, and it's a great story that gets you hooked from the beginning, recommended!✨

♥️Thank you so much Chloe Hodge and Farofeb (now Faro Society) for the gifted copy, I'm so grateful for the opportunity! all opinions are my own♥️

It's an absolutely enthralling and enchanting story that will keep you on your toes!

A magical world of Fae, a young maiden who is seeking answers and a dashing but mysterious captain who is at the center for her fate. Follow these two on a magical and harrowing tale of righting the wrongs of their forefathers and setting a new world into motion. This story has all the stops: great world building, a competition trial, a mystery to solve, some absolutely great female characters who find joy and home in each other, and an epic love story.

Aeris and Raithe are the two of the best characters I have read because of their complexities. They both have a string of grief in their stories, but they persevere and triumph throughout it all. Aeris has a tendency to attract strays, and her found family that she gains in this story was so important to see the bond that you can build without being blood. The romance and spice were also top notch, these two were really epic in the ways that they love each other.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this amazing novel and am leaving a review of my own thoughts and feelings.

This is definitely one of my favorites from ROMANCING THE REALMS books. I love that this one is a bit on the darker side. I enjoyed this so much and devoured it easily on a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Females are seen as below Males and our FMCs father is no different. He offers her up to the Rite, to enter into a series of deadly trials for her hand to the Fae Captain. Low and behold though, the losers... nobody knows what happens to them. GONE. Just gone. Like her own mother. During her time in the trials she befriends two girls, trusting when most would not trust, and tries to get answers to her questions, and also the Captains.

This story had great companionship with her two female friends, a good set of villains, and a wonderful mmc. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read this! It was definitely a great read and I can't wait to see what else the author gives us.

Loved!

An action-packed, fast paced, page turner and spicy read!
Blew my expectations! That gore in some of the scenes - totally unexpected but really brought the tests to life.
Some of those creatures were some of the best described but also the most feared.

Raithe's and Aeris connection was epic and so easy to follow. I enjoyed their love story. Top 5 Shadow Daddy's. 😅

I could read a fantasy like this all the time - There was not a moment that I wasn't captivated and pushing through to find what happens next.

The ending was perfect. Revenge and vengeance was served!

Really enjoyed this whimsical but dark tale. Aeris and Raithe were *chef’s kiss* and I loved the banter and tension between them. I also adored the found family between the girls and that they all had their moment to shine. Hoping the author will write a story or two for them down the line.

In all this was a 5 star read. Quick, full of action and intrigue, and a great standalone.

I received an ARC copy of this book and am unable to give it a star rating as I DNF the book at 67%.
I was enjoying the friendship between the FMC and two other female characters but once the MMC began to show up more in the story I just couldn’t get past how rushed and disjointed everything became.

I really enjoyed this. Aeris is a really strong FMC, and the way she deals with the Rites, that she's been thrust into against her will, is pretty inspiring.

There was plenty of drama, some twists and turns, and some very nice spice.
