I'm reviewing this as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
This story takes us to Brighton in the 1920s. At the start, we meet Eleanor, who works at The Grand Hotel. Even at the beginning, it struck me that Eleanor wasn't entirely happy; she wanted more from life, and I felt she deserved more.
Everything changed for Eleanor when she became part of The Forty Elephants. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was its feisty characters. They were so confident and assertive, and so much fun to read about because they were so loveable.
I also enjoyed the representations of friendships in this book. I felt the story spoke to women supporting and empowering one another; being who they wanted to be, instead of who society expected them to be. Towards the end, I realised I'd grown attached to some of these characters and grown to care about them, especially Eleanor/Nell.
Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.

I knew I was going to love this as soon as I read the Blurb- an interwar period book from the point of view of working class women? Yes please 😍😍. This book has it all, fast paced, intriguing, humour but most importantly some integral subtle messages about how difficult it was being both a woman and working class. It's definitely a wild ride and I felt on edge at various moments thinking is she going to get caught now? A few shocking twists and some very likeable characters- definitely happy I got to read this one!
I love stories of the forty elephants & devoured this book! The stories were fascinating and I enjoyed the scenery of the London and the way it was described. A great book.
