T. E. Lawrence was a man of all seasons. Known for his great thirst for adventure, he earned the name Lawrence of Arabia due to his hands-on expertise in the Middle East during World War I and the Arab Revolt. Yet his achievements extended well beyond exploration—he was an innovative soldier, a dedicated archaeologist, and a passionate curator of history. Fiercely loyal to his friends and surprisingly considerate even to his adversaries, Lawrence’s fearless attitude convinced the ruler of Hejaz that he was the visionary capable of steering them to victory against the Ottoman Turks. In the end, his adventures spanned continents and reshaped history.
This book chronicles Lawrence of Arabia’s remarkable journey—not only across vast geographic distances but also through the realms of the human spirit.

I guess most of us only know about Lawrence because of the movie. It was interesting to get a glimpse into his childhood and the last all days of his life. He was an interesting character with some real issues but managed to use both his strengths and weaknesses to his advantage. Good read, well worth the time for a high level review. He wrote several books and there a many biographies if more information is wanted.
Saw the movie years ago when I was young. It made him appear a little crazy and always just managing to save himself. The biography made him more empathetic to the underdog caught between two empires. One wonders why he didn’t retire in Arabia, a culture that he loved.
I was glad to lessen my ignorance on T.E. Lawrence but my happiness was heightened by the writer's excellent style and broad vocabulary ["ovarian lottery" comes to mind]. Truly it was a joy not only to learn but to be taught with choice words such as this. I do not mean flowery prose of little worth but succinct, powerful words chosen deliberately to express vivid thoughts.
Most Americans know of this man because of the Peter O'Toole movie, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Although I've read several books about this unique man, I particularly liked the way Hourly History synthesized his essence in a bit more than fifty pages.
I don't remember so much information about Lawrence's early life and the profound effect his relationship with his mother had on it. Lawrence was one of those unusual people who turned life's lemons into lemonade. He was uniquely qualified to do his work, and it is a marvel that he decided to attempt such a role.
I've read several books about T.E. Lawrence over the years. This one was interesting till the last page.
