Open My Heart

Rate this book
Kenya has mastered the art of keeping people at a distance. After a painful betrayal, she's convinced love is nothing more than a weakness she can't afford. Sanchez, however, is a man who knows exactly what he wants-power, legacy, and a love that can stand the test of time.

Their connection is undeniable, but Kenya is determined to fight it, unwilling to risk her heart again. Sanchez, steady and relentless, refuses to play by her rules. He challenges her, breaks down her walls piece by piece, but never loses himself in the process. He's not a man to be controlled-he's a leader, and he won't let Kenya run from what's real.

As tensions rise and emotions grow impossible to ignore, Kenya is left with a keep running or finally take a chance on the one man who refuses to let her hide.

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. I didn't like Chez as Kenya's love interest. She could've done so much better. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Ever since Kenya’s fiancée left her at the altar, it’s been f*ck them ninjas for life. She wants no part of men, relationships, or love. If it ain’t about sex, don’t even look in her direction cause, my girl ain’t got nothin’ for you. While hangin’ out at Italy’s house, Kenya meets Trell’s cousin and lets just say she’s less than impressed with him and makes sure he knows it.

After serving a five year bid for armed robbery, Chez is finally home and he vows to never go back. To celebrate his release, Trell keeps his word and throws him a huge welcome home party. Chez is kickin’ it with the fam when he sees Kenya across the yard and my guy is instantly smitten. Now, we all know that’s not a good idea and Trell tries to warn him but, Chez ain’t tryin’ to here none of that. He’s just met the future Mrs. Daily and he’s tryin’ to wife her up expeditiously. Oh, Chez.

Unpopular opinion, I didn’t like Chez as Kenya’s love interest. IMO, I just don’t think he was a good fit for her. You think about how strong willed and independent this character was written from book one and she ends up with a felon whose only been out of jail for six months?!!! Not my Kenya! Chez was overbearing AF and I didn’t like the way he treated Midnight. He took an instant dislike to him simply because of his friendship with Kenya and, if he could’ve made her end their friendship, he absolutely would have. There were times he displayed immature behavior and, he came across as sexist. Low key, he really wanted Kenya to stop working altogether while she was pregnant. I didn’t necessarily dislike Chez but, I wasn’t a fan either. Now, I will say, I loved how he got Kenya to fall in love with love again and helped usher her into her soft girl era. Speakin’ of work, lets talk about Kenya’s side gig. Why?!!! Given who she is, that was so farfetched and it brought absolutely nothing to the storyline. Honestly, it really could’ve been omitted completely but, I digress. Open My Heart was a little bit disappointing. This is not how I saw Kenya’s story playin’ out but, she finally got her HEA and that’s all that matters. I have truly enjoyed the Armani sisters and I hate to see them go. I’m keepin’ my fingers crossed for a book on Midnight. He has a story to tell and I wanna hear it.

I loved this! Kenya has been my favorite since book one and her story solidified her for me! Sanchez was so perfect for her. He turned her a$$ every which way but loose and I loved that for her. I loved these two together!

4.5⭐️The final book in the Armani Sisters series gave me all I could handle but also left me feeling full as things went full circle. To witness the ice around the “President of the Man Hate Club” melt was truly special, and it took a certain kind of assertive, confident, and protective man to make it happen. I always had a special interest in knowing about Kenya, and what made her so guarded and angry, all the time. I figured it was something deep, and painful, and after reading her story, I felt her behavior was warranted. However, there were a few times in this book that I wanted to shake her.

When I say Sanchez was a good man, he was truly good and patient. Chez was recently released from a prison stent and was on the road to recovery and making his dreams become a reality – wise beyond his years, it was refreshing to watch Chez beat the odds. The first encounter between Sanchez and Kenya was so memorable, because Kenya damn near brought Sanchez to his knees – my man was in love at first sight. It was clear early on that Kenya would be fighting a losing battle because Chez was not backing down, and I was here for all of it!

There are three things that stood out for me – 1. Kenya losing all control the first night with Chez. 2. Chez showing up to intervene on Kenya’s plans (GASP!). 3. Kenya’s secret life being revealed. All three things were monumental shifts in the story that had me on pins to see what would happen next.

I’m not sure how she does it, but T’Lyn continues to pen stories with swoon-worthy men, highlighting beautiful relationships between sisters and friends, and the spice, is always spicy. The book was a true demonstration of a woman scorned, and the work it takes to make her “Open Her Heart” to love again. It wasn’t easy but listen, it was always going to be Chez for Kenya – she just had to believe it. I loved this book so much.

Not my favorite in the series but still so good.

Was surprised by what was Kenya’s secret job, definitely didn’t see that coming. And honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of it.

I loved how Sanchez brought out Kenya’s soft girl era because she definitely needed it!

Kenya and Chez😍

What is a girl to do when her brother-in-law's cousin stirs feelings in her she thought were long buried deep? Kenya Armani has been on a f*ck men solo journey since she got her heart broken by her ex-fiancé. Sanchez is a man fresh out of prison who has never let anything get in the way of something or someone he wants…and he has his eyes set on Kenya.

This was my absolute favorite book in the Armani sisters series, and that could be because it had one of my favorite tropes in it, but I really loved Kenya and Sanchez. Kenya came off as so bitter, but you really have to read her story to understand her. Baby Girl was operating from a place of extreme hurt, and it really took a man like Chez to get her to realize that she can let someone love her. She needed a strong man who wasn't going to play with her or about her, and Chez was not playing the radio with Kenya, and for good reason, because at one point I wanted to shake her. Just poor decision-making at every turn, but she gets herself together and gets her man, and I loved it.

This author is undeniably talented—I’m not knocking her skills. But this story just didn’t align with what we were shown about Kenya.

After the *Chef Girls* book, I was really intrigued by Kenya. I expected her to be tough as nails. Instead, she came across as timid and emotionally fragile, which felt like a letdown. I understand heartbreak can change a person, and I’m not criticizing her for that but I *am* disappointed. I'm sorry, but no matter how good the sex was, this boss-level woman settling for a convict and an up-and-coming rapper/CEO? Be for real. Sanchez might be handsome, but that’s about it.

I started checking out the moment they got freaky on the first night. Kenya had *so much* to say about Chef Girl’s choices, only to turn around and sleep with a man fresh out of prison without protection? SISTER, PLEASE. Then acting confused about a possible pregnancy? Like… are you old enough to ovulate? Have you had unprotected sex recently? Have you had your period? Then pregnancy should be the *first* thought, not “maybe it’s the flu.” This is the same woman who makes venomous nail polish and nearly broke someone’s hand?

My biggest issue, though, was the pregnancy reveal and the response from her sisters. Just because two of them have kids doesn’t mean that’s what Kenya wants—even if part of her does. After watching her heart break and seeing her adopt this hardened, man-hating persona, their reaction fell short. Why were they prioritizing their own feelings and beliefs over the person who would actually be raising the child especially by a *stranger*? Their judgment felt harsh and dismissive, and only *after* ten minutes of arguing did it finally click that she was traumatized and scared. Honestly, that shouldn’t even matter if your sister comes to you looking for support, the last thing you should do is gang up on her or guilt-trip her over a life-altering decision.

Also, Chef and Trell were way too nosy about Kenya’s business, and China? Girl, go find a hobby. Everyone was just overbearing and exhausting.

As for Sanchez, he was doing the absolute most while bringing the absolute least. Saying, “I didn’t know she had a miscarriage”well, of course you didn’t. When you meet someone and sleep with them on night one without asking anything meaningful, why *would* you know anything important?

I thought she did him dirty... Nope.

When I read a review by a mutual reading friend, I thought Sanchez was married. I was so happy this sweet and deliberate man was in fact, single and was just what Kenya needed. His intentions were made clear at their first encounter. The story held my complete attention. I can rock with this family, it's real talk...

It was my least favorite of the series. In book 1, I could not stand Kenya. In book 2, I grew to like her and was looking forward to her book but this was just not it for me sadly.

I felt like it was too much going on from the beginning. Her being a flight attendant, hair stylist, assassin was kind of unrealistic for me and I didn’t like her love interest. Also, how they got together felt rushed considering her hating men, so her giving it up first night was random for me.

Then her being pregnant and putting her baby in dangerous situations, knowing she had already miscarried prior was wild to me.

I do really enjoy T’Lyns writing style however and will read other books from her.

Even with this book there was not a good enough explanation for Kenya being an asshole, I still didn't like her or care for her story. She was a complete and utter bitch for how she treated Sanchez, for trying to get an abortion in the beginning. The fact she went knowing she has a miscarriage before and wanted to be a mom, made me loose all respect for her which wasn't alot to begin with. She was a selfish, hating ass mf, who needed a good ass whupping. She had such positive examples of great relationships all around her and still let this raggedy mf Cruz make her an evil bitter bitch. No excuse justify how she moved and treated good men. She was dead ass wrong for putting her and her baby in harm's way. I liked Sanchez well enough. I hope to see Midnite story although he acted like a bit of a bitch here. But I could of done without this one altogether. Yeah it was next in line for the sisters but it didn't add no value to the series. It took this immature acting little girl to long to get on some act right.

We are back with the oldest of the crew Kenya Armani. From the beginning I was intrigued and wanted to know her story cause sis was mad mad all the time.

We met our MMC in the other books, being Trells cousin and knowing Italy (Kenya’s sister) these two was destined to cross paths.

Kenya might come off as hard and mean to everyone but Chez don’t play that when he comes to her.

You’re gonna stay immersed and want to know what’s gonna happen next when reading about these two. Hope you love them as much as I did.

Have your read the Armani sister?

Sanchez! My man! My man! My man! He was exactly what Kenya needed. He did not play with her mean self, wasn’t afraid to put her in her place, and wasn’t afraid to love her.

In the previous books, I wondered how her love story was going to play out. She was definitely a man hating women and wasn’t afraid to make it known. It started off rough but I’m glad she gave Sanchez a real chance in-spite of the hard shell she tried to portray.

The entire series was really good, I love the Armani sisters. Shockingly, Kenya’s story ended up being my favorite.

Mmmm

This book was a bit much by was of Kenya actions and mindset... Although I really enjoyed her in the other books... Her story of hurt hardness and venom was a lot going on that didn't really mess well with a guy who was 1000 about her from go. I'm not sure if I ever saw them really mesh or really make sense as a couple. I love me some T books and will still be loving them, but this one was just a miss for me.

— I loved me some Sanchez, baby. He did not play when it came to Kenya Armani and that was established upon their first encounter. She played hard to get all she could but the heart wants what it wants.
— We learned quick why her sisters called her junior but I’m so happy she found her person to open her heart to love again.

Love me some Sanchez and Yaya

Sanchez was all man and had very little time for games. Off the top, he let Miss Kenya know that baby there could only be one man in the relationship and he would cater to all her needs...all she had to do was trust him and be soft towards him! Oh what a beautiful love one can have with both partners are on the same accord

My least favorite of the three

Kenya got on my nerves the first 2 books so I wasn’t really looking forward to this one. I couldn’t find it in myself to root for her. Her entire attitude and demeanor was just irritating from beginning to end. It took way too long for her to finally stop being selfish which made the book hard to enjoy.

Quote: “We’re three the hard way.”

You can literally never go wrong reading something from T’Lyn! Open My Heart is no exception at all!!This is the third book in the series and it’s advised to read all three for a better reading experience. I recommend reading all of them in order like me. You will not be disappointed. DISCLAIMER: 95% of the things I read have a trigger warning and I love it. Protect your peace and mental health at all cost!!!

Like all of my reviews, I won’t spoil it for you, but what I can say is this should be your next read. We made it to another Armani sister’s journey and one thing I know is I love the FMC Kenya. She is the President of the men can die club, independent, strong, and content with her life. She is unapologetically her until she meets our MMC Sanchez. Sanchez is Sanchez through and through. (You will see once you read it.) He is striving to fulfill his dreams, but he knows what he wants and loves a good challenge. You of course will get to see glimpses of our girls Italy and China from book 1 and 2, which is always a plus. They are the three best friends that anybody could ever have. 😂

I loved the character development in this installment and the plot was just full of twist and turns. (I can say I do love a good well written plot twist.) I was stressed and curious at the same time. I just have to say this for my girl Kenya(FMC). Not to much on my girl. 😂Nothing can make me hate her. There were some sensitive topics in this book. I do enjoy seeing the representation if I am being honest.

You will love this book if you love plot, spice, good writing, and of course this genre Urban Fiction.IYKYK! Again, check your trigger warnings. Happy reading!

Cold Heart Meets Soft Girl Era

Kenya and Sanchez meet at a family gathering that was hosted by Italy (Kenya’s sister) and her hubby Kentrell, who happens to be Sanchez’s cousin. At the beginning Kenya did not take to well to Sanchez, he viewed Kenya as a challenge to get her to the soft girl era. Kenya and Sanchez hooked up the night of the party, and that ended up with positive results from a pregnancy test. Kenya didn’t take to well to becoming a mother so she quickly attempted to abort the mission without so much as telling Sanchez, but he found out about the pregnancy and learns her plans of aborting the mission and he confronts her at the clinic. After going back and forth, Kenya decided to keep the baby, and they had talks about co-parenting. Kenya and Sanchez’s relationship quickly evolves because Sanchez was not letting up on Kenya.

Im not going to get into too much detail but the part of the book that really drew me in was when Sanchez learned of Kenya’s job of being more than a flight attendant on her parents airline. Sanchez found out that Kenya was a hitwoman and her last mission pushed him over the edge. I’m glad that the came to common ground and got back together.

Kenya + Sanchez

This was not at all what I was expecting for Kenya. Kenya was really out here with secrets and then secrets within secrets. In walks Sanchez and blows up her entire spot. He told her he wanted a soft woman. When Kenya was being the opposite of that, Sanchez was throwing the biggest tantrum. I feel like he is kind of manipulative even though his way was the safest and the best option. One thing T’Lyn is going to do is create a man that acts like one of my brothers and pisses me off. Other than that, Sanchez was cool. SPOILERS... kinda Was he a 30-year-old rapper? Yes, but he gained instant popularity. Did he live with his Grandma? Yes, but it was to keep an eye on her. Did he have shady friends? Yes, but that just means he’s loyal… I guess.

Now, Midnight… I am with Sanchez on his whole situation. Why are you being weird? Midnight was being loyal to Kenya but not in her best interest. He didn’t have to tell Sanchez but he still should have said something to Mr. Armani or something. Also, there wasn’t enough “rah rah” between Midnight and Sanchez.

Anyway, I think the theme of this series is sisterhood. I love the Armani girls!

3.5🌟!

I was not expecting this from Kenya’s story or that she and Chez would be an item, but here we are, lol. I enjoyed the chaos of Kenya and Chez getting together, although the journey afterward was tough. Both Kenya and Chez were stubborn and set in their ways. I really felt for Kenya because being independent for so long makes you feel like you have to resolve a lot on your own before letting someone in to take care of you. While good-natured and wanting to love Kenya, Chez was a bit overboard at times in his thought process on how his woman should be. Especially when he gave the exact instructions to Coya, which had her turn to Scar by the end of the book, lol! Kenya was tough as nails, and I'm so glad she got a redo on everything that went wrong for her. She didn't make all the best decisions, but she got it right by the end. Midnight's situation was a little messy and didn't seem entirely resolved by this book's end, so I'm curious about that, especially after the authors note that this may not be their official end! Overall, I enjoyed this book; it was a good addition to the series!

Fire and Ice

Kenya was definitely an ice princess. However, as the story progresses we see that it’s a defense mechanism due to heartbreak. I didn’t know what to make of Chez initially other than he was really confident and sure of his attraction to and intentions with Kenya. What I found most surprising was how quickly Kenya gave in to Chez because her persona didn’t give easily swayed. I guess when you know you know. It was so cute watching her fight that attraction, but give into it at the same time. Chez wasn’t letting up though, so I can see how she fell.

Now there were a few things that I’d like to see if we were to ever revisit the Armani crew. I need to see Kenya and Chez flourishing in their personal and professional lives. Midnight needs a story because I didn’t care for how Chez was treating him or that there wasn’t a resolution after that man to man chat—or maybe it was. Either way, my guy needs his own story with a woman that fits him. Oh and I need to see the Coya girl get hit with a tomato or something and for Zed to get cut off.

I've been working my way through T'Lyn's catalog and everything I've read has been chef's kiss so I didn't expect anything less for this book!
I will admit that I did not like Kenya in the first two books. I felt like she was bitter and wanted her sisters to be bitter as well. I also felt like she was happy for them but out of obligation because they were her sisters not because she was genuinely happy. This book made me look at Kenya differently and I can see why she had her walls up. China is still my favorite though lol! I can relate to Kenya being the oldest sibling though and she definitely grew on me!
Rio was my favorite MMC of this series until Chez stepped on the scene! Everything Kenya threw at him, he gave right back to her, rightfully so! He was everything she didn't even know she needed and I love that for her. Now his delivery was off at times, but his feelings were valid and everything he said was what she needed to hear!
I really enjoyed this series and I hope this isn't the last we see of the Armani Sisters!

After reading books one and two it’s hard for me to believe Kenya would fold on day one. 🙄 I’m supposed to believe that she’s so horny she just does something completely out of character. Or that Sanchez is just so smooth?! It’s soooo annoying when everything is immediately about sex. Can the characters build an organic connection first?! Geez! Also this writer doesn’t believe in autonomy because niggas really be forcing their desires onto these women. She has to change everything in her life because he says so? This nigga didn’t bother to ask her if she wanted a damn baby! And the sister relationship is insufferable! They’re too involved in each other’s lives! I DNF’d after Kenya was gaslit and manipulated into something she clearly didn’t want. I gotta take a break from T’lyn her characters are becoming more and more insufferable! In this series Rio is the only truly likable character from what I recall.
