THREE DRESSES . . . THREE DAUGHTERS . . . ONE SEARCH . . .

In 1980, designer Claudie Miller is a household name. Girls are begging their mothers to make them her famous dress, the ‘Juliet’.

But there’s a big hole in Claudie’s life – sixteen years ago she was forced to give up her baby for adoption. Now she’s in a race to track her daughter down before it’s too late.

In 1980, Roisin, Miranda and Bindi are turning sixteen on the same day. Raised in different families, in different parts of the country, they know nothing about each other . . . or their connection to the dress every teenager is talking about.

But the Juliet was designed with one of them in mind – and its threads are slowly pulling them closer to the truth.

'Three Juliets is unmissable. Exquisitely crafted, this story of adoption, longing and family is heartbreaking, tender and beautiful. Stitched together with Minnie Darke’s ever vibrant characters and deep humanity, this story, like every baby born, is a small miracle.' HEATHER ROSE

Minnie Darke writes smart, contemporary stories about love ... of all kinds.

Her first novel Starcrossed - about a journalist who manipulates an astrology column for her own romantic ends - was published in over 25 international territories.

The Lost Love Song - composed in a slightly more melancholy key - tells the story of a haunting melody that finds its way home, all by itself, to the heart of the person who inspired it.

With Love from Wish & Co takes you deep into the world of a professional gift-buyer. It begins on the day Marnie Fairchild is wrapping two gifts: one for her best client's wife, and one for his lover. What could possibly go wrong?

Three Juliets brings together themes of motherhood, daughterhood, love, loss and dressmaking. It's the story of Claudie Miller, who designs the beautiful 'Juliet' dress in tribute to the daughter - who would now be 16 years old - that she never had the chance to know. It's also the story of Roisin, Bindi and Miranda – all born on the same day, all adopted – who are 16 years old when the 'Juliet' enters their lives. The dress was designed with one of them in mind ... but which one?

Minnie Darke is a lover of freshly sharpened pencils, Russian Caravan tea and books of all kinds. She lives on the beautiful island of lutruwita/Tasmania, at the bottom of the world.

1980: Claudie Miller works for a woman’s magazine, she designs clothes and every three months her patterns are included in the publication and teenage girls all over Australia are pleading with their mothers to make her latest dress called the ‘Juliet’ and it’s so popular the shops sell out of raw silk.

Roisin, Miranda and Bindi are all turning sweet sixteen on the same day, are adopted and only two know and they have no idea they have a connection to Claudie and the dress that every girl in country dreams of having hanging in their wardrobe. Being a teenage girl isn’t easy and they all have to overcome challenges and disappointments, such as not fitting in at school and worrying their not pretty, swinging hormones and rebelling, feeling smothered and different.

1964: Claudie falls pregnant and out of wedlock and she's banished and forced to give up her baby for adoption, and the rules have been changed and she’s racing against time to find her.

2002: The writer is looking at a display of Australia's twenty five famous dresses at a museum, and it makes her reflect on being a teenager, how she met Claudie and visited her house at Clovelly, and who owned the three Juliets and what happened to them and their links to the fashion designer.

I received a copy of Three Juliets from NetGalley and Penguin Random House Australia in exchange for an honest review and this is the first book I have read by Minnie Darke and she’s an amazing and talented author and who skilfully weaves the emotional and thought provoking triple timelines together perfectly and I didn't want it to end.

A story about forced adoption in Australia, how the mothers were powerless and had no say in the decision and were tricked. How the feeling of loss and guilt never goes away and they find it hard to move forward and trust anyone. The narrative focuses on consequences, love and grief, secrets and mystery, friendship and family, clothes and fashion, making promises and keeping them, and the characters will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page, I highly recommend and five stars from me.

An intricately woven tale of three daughters and one search.

This is a beautiful story of nature and nurture, from Australian author Minnie Darke.

I enjoyed the realistically depicted characters, and how the theme of adoption, including forced adotion, is handled with grace and nuance.

Three Juliets is the fourth novel from Tasmanian author Minnie Darke. A tale of the unique bond between mothers and daughters despite the bounds of circumstance, space, time and location, this is an emotive tale that I got completely lost in.

Three Juliets sees the longing that occurs when a gorgeous and must-have dress is requested by girls far and wide. But its famous designer holds a secret close to her chest and the sense of loss the designer feels sends her on a journey of discovery. This is an emotive tale about adoption, kinship, hidden truths, love, identity and the search for the truth..

Set in Australia's recent past, Three Juliets sees the mania that occurs when teenage girls across the country long for a coveted gown known as “The Juliet,. The story follows Bindi, Miranda and Roisin. This trio are about to celebrate a milestone, their sixteenth birthday, all on the same day. Each lives in different corners of Australia but they are all equally transformed by the iconic “Juliet’ dress.

With the central lead Claudie Millera, celebrated designer and fashion writer, we get an insight into the world of design, creation, fashion and glamour. I loved this segment of the book but I also found Claudie’s personal secret just as fascinating. Claudie’s story and personal search allows us to gain an insight into young relationships, unexpected pregnancy, motherhood, relinquishment, sacrifice, maternal love, regret, truth, concealment, longing, decision making and reconnection

Darke has penned a tale that is layered with emotion and realisation. The narrative crosses character, place, time and events. Darke's writing bursts with feeling, allowing the reader to sympathise with every cast member and their respective issues. In terms of the audiobook, the narration offered by Lucia Mastrantone helped bring character’s experience to life. I managed to forgo some important housework duties for this one. The end was so fitting too.

Three Juliets is a touching and great journey feel read.

This book was such a beautiful and emotional read—I was crying twice before I even finished the first chapter! I couldn’t put it down.

The story follows Claudie Miller, a well-known designer in Australia, famous for her children’s patterns in a popular women’s magazine. In the Spring 1980 edition, she features a dress called the Juliet, inspired by the daughter she gave up for adoption as a baby. When Claudie comes across a list of three possible adoptive families, she sets out to find her daughter, not knowing where the search will lead.

The book covers some tough topics, especially forced adoption, but does so with a lot of heart and care. I really liked the setting and how the story moved through different timelines—it was easy to follow and added a lot of depth.

The characters felt real and layered. A lot of them made some pretty questionable choices, but you could usually understand where they were coming from.

Some parts were just heartbreaking, but the story kept me hooked the whole way through. And the ending? Loved it!

Highly recommend if you’re into emotional women’s fiction with strong characters and a story that sticks with you.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Australia and the author for the ARC!

Minnie Darke writes a powerful story that will tug on your heartstrings. Three Juliets is an exquisite read and an easy five stars, I adored it.

At the heart of the story is Claudie, sixteen years ago she was forced to give her baby up for adoption at a time when teenage unwed mothers had few choices and even lesser rights but now Claudie’s time is running out and if she doesn’t find her daughter soon, the chance to reunite will be lost forever.

In 1980 Claudie Miller is an Australian household name in children’s fashion design and pattern making, girls everywhere are wanting their mothers to sew them the famous ‘Juliet’ dress featured in the popular Australian woman’s magazine.

The characters in this story are well developed and relatable and the plot is captivating. Difficult subjects are written with such grace and tenderness.

The theme of the book is adoption and is shown from different perspectives.

Three Juliets is definitely a page turner that will grip you to the last page and a poignant reminder that family is not just about blood but also the invisible threads of love, memory and connection that bind us across time.

Absolutely adored Three Juliets, the latest release by Minnie Darke, who is a firm favourite of mine. Three Juliets is about the forced adoptions that were commonplace in Australia during the 1960s through to the mid-1970s. Given the tens of thousands of babies that were adopted within those years, many Australians of my generation and older have a personal link to this sad portion of our country's history. I found this to be a profoundly moving novel that stirred up a range of emotions within me.

I've read a few novels about the forced adoptions, and all of them have been very good, but what I liked most about this one was the focus on the children who were adopted. Specifically, as they reached adulthood, the impact of learning that not only were they adopted, but that their mothers were forced into giving them up. There was a great deal of social history woven into this story, which I devoured.

A special shout out to Roisin, who was my favourite Juliet and whose own story made my heart ache. I think Roisin's experiences may mirror the experiences of many others.

Three Juliets is quite a long novel, but I never felt the length of it. I powered through the pages, devouring it over two days. Minnie Darke has carved out a place for herself as a queen when it comes to writing fiction that plays on the heartstrings like a harp in an orchestra. I adore her writing and, at this point, would probably even five-star her shopping list.

But to finish, I just want to say thanks to Minnie for writing this story. For all the people who were separated from their families, who never got to meet them or met them, and it didn't work out. For all those who connected, only to lose that person again. This novel is for you.

Thanks to Penguin Books Australia for the review copy.

Big thanks to Penguin for sending us a copy to read and review.
A beautiful, inspiring and creative tale that will play your heartstrings.
Three Juliets is a book that will give you all the feels.
A story of adoption, family, secrets, love, identity and finding the truth.
The year is 1980 and all young girls want the dress called ‘The Juliet’.
For Bindi, Miranda and Roisin, turning sixteen on the same day but in different parts of Australia and living very different history, this dress will change their lives forever.
The famous dress was designed by Claudie Miller, an acclaimed fashion icon who writes for magazines and creates patterns for dresses.
But Claudie has a secret, she had a baby many years ago and wants to find her.
The truth always comes out and when it does it will change all three women.
Minnie has penned a powerful story that will eat up all your reading senses and then some.
Full of emotion and the characters are woven through the plot so effortlessly.
Very highly recommended and one that will move you.

In a story that is much more about motherhood, we learn about a heartbreaking time of history and the evolving magazine industry. Friendships are formed, bravery is recognised, and secrets are revealed.

𝟣𝟫𝟪𝟢: Claudie Miller is a fashion designer and works part-time for a woman's magazine, where her patterns are published regularly. Her designs are beloved by the nation, clothing a generation of girls. This year, the 'Juliette' is especially popular, with sixteen year olds begging for the dress to be sewn for themselves.

Three of these girls, all turning sweet sixteen on the same day, are Roison, Bindi, and Miranda - unaware that the Juliette connects them all in ways they least expect.

However, Claudie has never had the opportunity to dress her own girl. Sixteen years ago, she gave birth to a daughter, cruelly ripped away, never to be seen again.

Now, time is running out to track her down.

𝟤𝟢𝟢𝟤: The writer is compiling a feature on Claudie- someone that she was especially close to. Now, she's been entrusted with Claudie's legacy...

Three Juliets was my first ever book by Minnie Darke, and what an emotional journey it is. I'm not sure why I haven't read any of her works before. She's a marvellous author, bringing something so tragic (forced adoption) to the table and creating a beautiful, emphatic narrative.

Each of her characters were amazingly written, and you'll feel for them all. There's certainly a range of personal opinions and points of view from all that's affected.

The multiple timelines flowed easily, making this book absolutely engrossing.

Minnie is an author that I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for in the future.

A beautifully woven story from an author I adore. I’m a Minnie Darke completist and THREE JULIETS delivers something different from Minnie’s other whimsical tales.

It’s poignant and mysterious, heartwrenching, hopeful and powerful. It kept me guessing as to where all the branches of the story were heading and a moment had me gasping. The slow burn built to a truly brilliant and unforgettable conclusion.

An Aussie fiction gem!

I received a gifted copy of this book from the publisher.

Oh Minnie Darke, you have done it again! You have captured all the fuzzy feels and bottled it up in this beautiful story. I loved this book so much and like Minnie’s previous novel ‘The Lost Love Song’ this will be one I will remember and recommend for a very very long time 🫶

Claudie is an Australian fashion designer whose patterns are published in the Australian Women’s Weekly magazine and have made her a household name. Her dress the ‘Juliet’ is one of the most made and worn dresses. And while she is living her dream she is longing to find and meet the child she was forced to give up for adoption when she was 16 years old.

Roisin, Bindi and Miranda are about to turn sixteen, all born on the same day. They do not know each other, are all adopted and living very different lives with adulthood around the corner they are each trying to find their place in the world

The story flows perfectly between multiple timelines between 1964 and 2002. Told from the perspective of Roisin, Claudie, Miranda and Bindi, each so unique, interesting and fiercely strong in their own right. I was completely engrossed in their stories

This one tugged at the heart strings, looking back at a heartbreaking time in history when forced adoption was the only option for young women out of wedlock, and the then challenges and laws preventing reunions

Highly recommend this beautiful book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have the tissues ready 🥺

Thank you Penguinbooks and Minnie Darke for my gifted book and beautiful note 🫶🫶🫶

People who sew - like me - will love this book with its beautiful descriptions of this absorbing creative process. Claudie, the central character, is a designer and pattern maker who publishes her patterns in a popular women’s magazine. The three ‘Juliets’ of the title are three makes of a pattern designed for a sixteen year old. There is a deeply melancholy backstory to these dresses as Claudie has designed these and many of her patterns for a daughter taken from her by enforced adoption. Minnie Drake explores this cruel and tragic practice from multiple perspectives. It’s to her credit that all these voices are engaging and readers will come to care about all these characters. The physical book is utterly beautiful. It would make a lovely gift - even for oneself!

If I could give more stars, I would. I am a Minnie Darke fan, and I have been looking forward to the release of this book. Often, the books I look forward to fall a little short of my expectations, but not this one! Minnie's characters are very well developed. I bonded with the likable ones and disliked the actions and moral judgments of others.
The subject matter would be complicated for some readers, as it explores teen pregnancies and enforced adoptions.
I highly recommend this book.

I LOVED this important story of a successful, high profile woman searching for the daughter she was coerced into surrendering for adoption at age 16. Powerful, heartfelt and tender, cleverly woven and artfully crafted, it is also the story of being adopted, sometimes unknowingly. Three Juliets is a page turner that gripped me from first page to last.

This book was another great read from one of my favourite Australian authors. Told in multiple timelines and POVs, yet still easy to follow. The theme of adoption was shown in different perspectives, and this story weaved the impact this has on the women who had no choice to give up their babies and to the children who now lived with their adoptive families. I enjoyed the references to iconic moments in Australian fashion history, and the changing landscape of magazines. A well written novel which I would highly recommend.

This heartbreakingly beautiful Australian story is a truly wonderful read. It revovles around forced adoption in the 1960's and 70's, parts are also set in the 80's and 2000's. I loved the characters, I loved their stories and I loved this book! As a first-time reader of this author, I will definitely be reading Minnie Darke again.

Can we just take a moment to look at this stunning book cover?

Three dresses… Three daughters… One search...

Claudie Miller is a household name for the creating of the “Juliet” dress but Claudie has a big hole in her life. Sixteen years ago she was forced to give up her baby for adoption. She wants to track down her daughter before it is too late.

What an emotional read. I found myself in tears in some parts and some smiles in other parts. This story is about lost families and forced adoption. I found this book very well written, it all flowed well with the multiple storylines and the two different years being 1964 and 2002. I also really enjoyed the parts about fashion and how Claudie made her daughter clothes throughout the years.

This was a beautiful book, I absolutely adored it. It was the story of Claudie, a famous Australian fashion designer, who fell pregnant at 16 and was shipped off by her family to a property near Nyngan in NSW as she wasn’t married and was so young. It is also the story of three girls; Roisin, Bindi and Miranda who were born the day she had her child. The story goes between all of their stories as almost 18 year old women as well as Claudie’s story at the same period of time and a more current period of time. It was emotional, but the was well and truly along for the ride.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

THREE JULIETS by Minnie Darke is published by Penguin Random House 2025.
Review by Lorraine Parker
Three Juliets is a poignant fictional mystery / love story with events and characters unfolding progressively from August of 1980.
In March of 2002 the “unknown writer” of this book writes an attention grabbing, intriguing introduction. The writer is spending time in a museum as, “in the spirit other people go to church”. I am captured.
In August of 1980, thirty-two year old Claudie Miller is well known, even famous, for her dress design contributions, to the Australian magazine, ‘Australian Woman’. Patterns can be copied for free. Her latest beautifully crafted creation is the ‘Julie’ dress. Every 16 year old would aspire to have one, especially made out of silk. Claudia also has a column, answering any reader problems. Of course she is kept very busy.
Three different girls, in very different locations are turning 16 in 1980. They, or their mother’s all want them to wear Claudie’s creation to celebrate their sixteenth birthday.
Meet Roisin, September 1980. Roisin knows she is adopted. She is making the dress herself. Her mother is ill, so no help at all.
The story swaps back to Claudie, October 1980. Her father had given her a Husqvarna about 16 years ago. Claudie had fallen in love with Jon Davenport. Her parents, especially Grete did not approve. How appropriate for Claudie to be sent to Melbourne to become a tailor. Except Claudie was not! She was sent away, almost disowned, to have her baby far way where no one would ever know. Now, in the present Claudie’s chest is scarred. She has just had a mastectomy. Yet another scar to add to the many, lower down on her stomach. Claudie has just finished a Juliet dress. Her daughter would be now 16. Claudie has a special place, where each year she adds a gift that she hopes one day will be for her unknown daughter.
Also, in October 1980 Miranda is turning 16. She is on a luxury cruise ship, along with her parents. The spirited Miranda has disappeared with Lars, the ships employee responsible for instigating so many ‘oldies’ to dance. Her father soon finds her on the deck lounge with Lars. She is banished to her adjacent parents suite. She overhears their heated conversation and learns that she is adopted!
In November of 1980, after her breast removal Claudie accepts an invitation to judge Fashion Awards. In so doing Claudie finds her first clue in finding her lost daughter. Claudie’s baby was born on 4th October 1964. Only 3 babies were born in this small hospital on that day. An incredible narrowing of her search.
Bindi’s parents, Gina her mother and her minister father, ( now December 1980) have never hidden that she is adopted. How could they. All three children are unalike and all adopted.
This is just the tip of this heart rending, powerful, provoking but factual saga of the early 1980’s. It is also a graphical look at prevailing attitudes over generations. The nurturing and genetic instinct of love between mother and child, both biological and adoptive shines through.
To me, so many books that swap times, characters and story lines become demanding on the readers attention. I enjoyed consuming this one over many days, mesmerised by every page.
Superbly written. A must read for all.

“Three Juliets” left me absolutely devastated, as Darke yet again entwines love, loss and hope in one of the most moving stories I’ve read since her last novel. She is just unmatched, for me, in the lovely way she weaves multiple stories together and embeds them in her readers’ hearts.

The Juliets of the title are actually dresses; a dress pattern called the Juliet, designed by Claudie Miller and made and worn by three different teenage girls. In the 1980s, Claudie is a household name and her patterns can cause shortages of particular fabrics. But in the 1960s, an unmarried Claudie was forced to give up her baby for adoption. Now she’s starting a search to fill that hole.

Roisin, Miranda and Bindi share a birthday, but little else. All three are adopted, and have been raised by very different families in different parts of Australia. As they approach their 16th birthdays, each faces different kinds of upheaval, not knowing that truth is also on their horizon.

I flat out loved this novel. I remember reading Darke’s first novel, Star-Crossed, and being entirely blown away. Every novel she’s written has been equally moving, both devastating in their emotional depth and full of love and hope as well as agonizing grief. Her stories are distinctive and so well written that they live in my heart and head years after I’ve read them.

Darke is weaving four stories together, across three timelines. This should be complicated, but it’s easy to follow. Each character is so distinctive that you tend to know when and where you are within just a few words. Each will burrow into your heart in different ways.

This is a very personal story for each character, but Darke is also touching on the broader social issue of forced adoptions, and the agony that was visited on many “relinquishing” mothers. She makes the reader feel this pain acutely, and it would be hard not to be outraged by the actions of those who took babies from mothers who wanted them.

I could rabbit on about this book for, ooh, hours and hours and pages and pages. But I’d just be wasting time you could be reading it instead.

This is a brilliant novel, deeply moving and brimming with love, grief, and hope. It’s unforgettable. Read it. Your only regret will be that eventually you’ll have to close it, and leave the story and characters within the cover.

Three dresses. Three daughters. The search to belong.
Adoption can be a deeply emotional experience, potentially involving painful feelings of loss, grief, and identity issues for both the adoptee and birth parents and can also lead to mental health challenges. The complexities of adoption leave adopted children feeling like they are "missing pieces" in their identity puzzle. Birth parents experience intense feelings of grief, guilt, loneliness, and loss: all these emotions deserve acknowledgment, and Minnie Dark has delivered this in her novel.
In 1980, designer Claudie Miller was a household name, creating dress patterns the people of all ages including her most famous dress, the ‘Juliet’. In this same year, Claudie reflected on the gap in her life, that of her baby she was forced to give up at the age of 16. With a health diagnosis that has made her reset her thoughts, she is now in the race to find her baby. There ae three girls born in this same day, raised in different parts of Australia to different families: is one of them the baby Claudie is searching for?
What was special about this book was that it centred predominantly around women: Claudie, the three girls, and an array of supporting secondary characters. Even the mention of fathers took a backseat, and I think this was really significant. The experience of a mother and the bond between a mother and a child is unlike anything else, and for each of these women it was unique I also something that sat deep within them.
I love the notes to the Australian women's magazine and recall seeing the clothing patterns in the 80s and 90s. The connection to the women's fashion museum exhibition was also a lovely nod to the way in which all of these characters were sewn together (pardon the pun!). And the idea of Claudie hand making address every year that passed after she gave birth was so touching. There were labour of love with so much special attention and detail in their creation. And then nod just sewing between each of the girls was equally touching and sentimental. I gasped when I realised the identify of the three girls in relation to Claudie, and I think it will be something that also pulls at the heartstrings of every reader of this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – An Unforgettable, Heart-Tugging Masterpiece

Three Juliets by Minnie Darke is one of those rare novels that grabs your heart from the very first page and doesn’t let go. A moving blend of historical fiction and contemporary emotion, this dual-timeline story is brimming with humanity, heartbreak, hope—and the quiet, persistent power of love.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters felt so authentic and relatable, and the writing flowed effortlessly, almost like music on the page. Minnie Darke has a gift for weaving together multiple storylines so seamlessly that you're never lost, only more invested. Her words captivated me from start to finish, and I found myself completely immersed in this story of mothers and daughters, of identity, and of the echoes of the past.

Set primarily in the 1980s and the early 2000s, the novel follows Claudie Miller—a fashion designer at the height of her fame in 1980—who created the iconic Juliet dress that every teenage girl wanted. But behind the fame lies deep sorrow: at sixteen, Claudie was forced to give up her baby for adoption. Now, years later, she sets out to find the daughter she lost. Meanwhile, three sixteen-year-old girls—Roisin, Miranda, and Bindi—raised in different corners of Australia, begin to feel the pull of their mysterious shared origin as the Juliet dress connects them in ways they could never imagine.

I especially loved the pop culture nod early on—a reference to a legendary 1980s soap opera wedding dress. It was such a fun and unexpected detail that added authenticity and charm to the setting. But beyond the nostalgia and period details, the emotional resonance of this novel is what truly stands out. It explores themes of forced adoption with such tenderness and honesty, giving voice to both the unimaginable grief and the enduring hope of those affected.

This book made me laugh, cry, and reflect deeply. I was truly captivated—especially in the final parts, which I devoured in one breathless sitting. Minnie Darke handles such complex emotional terrain with grace, weaving a story that is not only beautiful and heartbreaking but also full of warmth, strength, and healing.

If you're drawn to stories of identity, found family, and the deep, unbreakable threads that connect us across time and space, Three Juliets is an absolute must-read. Five stars, no hesitation. Honestly, the only downside is having to say goodbye to these characters when the final page is turned.

Highly, highly recommend.

It was an absolute surprise and delight to find this in my letterbox.
‘Three Juliets’ is a beautiful story of family lost and found and the generational effects of adoption, spanning 1964-2002.
The focus is on the forced adoptions of younger, single women; who did not want to give up their children but were powerless to stop the brutal process.
Claudie Miller is a famous designer, publishing her sewing patterns in ‘Australian Woman’ magazine.
A health scare is the motivation she needs to finally start the search for her adopted daughter.
She is able to narrow it down to three girls, all born on her delivery date at the correct hospital.
What follows is a remarkable journey for all three girls and also for the reader.
I took my time reading this book; I think I’ll probably read it again one day- it was such an engrossing story.
It doesn’t take the hallmark path, it doesn’t always go the way you want it to. Characters will frustrate and challenge you (cough Grete, Gina) but it all builds to a very satisfying conclusion (tissues are a must!)

‘Do you ever stand in a crowd and wonder…’ Roisin begins.
‘How many people are part of this same story?’ Kizzy finishes.

In 1980, Claudie Miller is a successful, well-known designer, with girls desperate for their mothers to make them their own 'Juliet', a famous dress designed by Claudie. Little does the world know that this dress was designed with I've person in mind. Despite, her success, there's something missing in Claudie's life - since she's become ill, she is desperate to find the daughter she gave up for adoption at sixteen. At the same time, 3 young girls, all born on the same day as Claudie's daughter unknowingly share a connection to the 'Juliet' dress'. While these girls all want to find the truth about their birth mothers and Claudie's race to find her child before it's too late.

This story is a beautiful tale about the heartbreak of lost family and the longing for connection. Well written, with wonderful characters that your heart goes out to, l loved this story which is definitely worthy of a read. This book will definitely make your heart ache and leave you feeling profoundly moved.

Absolutely brilliant!

My first Minnie Darke—and now an author I will always look forward to reading.

This profoundly moving story centres on the forced adoptions that occurred in Australia between the 1960s and mid-1970s, such a heartbreaking chapter of history.

I loved that the 'Three Juliets' focuses on the adopted children themselves. As the story unfolds, we learn the truth of their adoptions—the coercion, societal stigma, and ongoing impacts in adulthood. Disclaimer here: At first, I needed to reread the start of the novel to pick up the threads. The novel skillfully weaves in history, enriching the narrative and grounding it in reality. I loved and ached for all the characters; their stories were heartbreaking.

I flew through this book in just two days, and didn't want it to end. Darke truly has a gift for storytelling that tugs at the emotions. Three Juliets is a tribute to all those affected by forced adoptions—those still searching, those who reunited and lost again, and those who never got the chance.

I can’t recommend it enough.

Wow. What a stunning novel. I absolutely LOVED it.
Three Juliets was beautifully written. It was a deeply emotional story.
Minnie dealt with the subject of forced adoption sensitively.
I've read two previous books from Minnie that I also really enjoyed: Star-Crossed and The Lost Love Song.

I loved that the story was told from the perspectives of Claudie and the three girls, Roisin, Miranda, and Bindi, one of which is assumed to be her daughter. It was an interesting, suspenseful, and emotional journey reading about Claudie's search for her daughter, wondering which one of the girls it is. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was wrong.

This is a story that will stay with me for a long time.
I very highly recommend Three Juliets.

5 well deserved stars from me. I wish I could give it more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
