Scream for Me

Rate this book
The harbinger of fear, the predator of the night…

I feast on human terror, drinking in their screams like the sweetest nectar. But when I stumble through the portal into her room and hear her cries of pleasure, a far darker, primal hunger takes hold.

She belongs to me now. I need to hear her scream like that again, and I will, even if I have to break her apart.

The woman stolen from her world and thrust into a realm of nightmares…

I felt it—eyes watching me from the darkness, golden and unblinking from the shadows of my closet. The thought sent a shiver through me, twisting into something illicit as I let my fingers wander. But when he pounced, dragging me into his cold, merciless world, the thrill turned to terror.

Now, he demands my pleasure, my screams—but I refuse to surrender without a fight.

Got the ebook for review.

It had strong vibes of being inspired lightly buy monsters inc but make it adult, a lot darker and spicy. I adored the characters and the whole plot line and could have easily devoured a whole book about them but at the same time the novella had enough of their story to feel satisfying.

This was a fun monsters inc retelling. Marie was all about being turned on by fear and was loud AF in bed, and therefore the perfect pick for Mr out of his mind monster that feeds on fear. It was a very fast burn, especially for a book that starts with kidnapping, but would I really choose differently? I would have loved less of a jump in time to the epilogue to get more info, though.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: kidnapping, dubcon, captivity, gore, violence, animal attack, murder, body horror, stalking, voyeurism from both MMC and from side character, stalking, hunting, poverty, foster care (past), repressed childhood trauma, starvation of side character, abuse of side character

I binged this in a couple hours, I couldn’t stop reading! The Monsters Inc. references were the cherry on top. The MMC is a furry monster that feeds off screams and the FMC is turned on by fear. Cue the wedding bells!

The character development was amazing and I truly felt like they had a strong connection. I will read anything by G.M. Fairy. The stories are always unique, well written, and extremely spicy. This book was only 121 pages and didn’t feel rushed or underdeveloped. This is one of my all time dark monster romances now!

Thank you G.M Fairy & BookSirens for this ARC! All thoughts are my own and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Oooook, who had a big fat crush on Sully from Monster’s Inc (and John Goodman for that matter)? I CAN’T BE THE ONLY ONE!! A big guy with a heart of gold and a deep voice? Please, I know I’m not the only one even if you want to deny it 😉 Thank goodness G.M. Fairy gave us Monster’s Inc lovers a dark monster romance reimagining!

I loved how Scully, our MMC, had to gain screams/fear from people in order to eat and become less feral. I loved watching as he became more cognizant of himself and his surroundings, almost becoming humanlike a lot of times after getting what he needed from the fear. It was a bit like he had amnesia until he fed enough to become more aware and start remembering important things, and I loved it! Between separate realms and this difference in consciousness, I felt the worldbuilding was very well done.

Of course I loved how Marie was a perfect match for him, in that she definitely had a fear kink, so that worked for both of them perfectly! I also loved how she had a very hectic life, with no real family or friends, so it was incredibly easy for her to give her realm the middle finger once she found her peace in the other realm.

I loved that while this was a captive/captee romance, G.M. Fairy did a great job not making their intimate times feel nonconsensual. And speaking of intimate scenes, we got both quantity and quality, which I loved 😉

I loved the action throughout the book, as well as the couple having to travel through his realm to get to the light beyond the woods. I love a destination/travel trope and this one was perfect as it was no easy journey but definitely brought them together. And of course, I loved their HEA which was perfect 😊

Thank you to G.M. Fairy for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

4.5 stars!!

Scully/Marie - Sully/Boo

Monsters Inc vibes? Count me in! Scully and Marie's journey to find the light after Scully kidnap her is insane. And a spider monster dude? Howler trying to steal her every chance they can. Scully protects her as everything they connect, he begins to regain memory and a sense of who he is as a monster/human.

Pace was a tad fast for me. Spicy scenes written extremely well. As this was my first read of G.M. Fairy, I can say I will be reading more!

From the icon who brought us the gems, “Get In My Swamp,” and “Romanced By The Rat,” I present to you: “Scream For Me”💜🩵💜🩵 GM Fairy does spicy captor/captive with a fairytale retelling SO DANG WELL. Marie and Scully have my heart. I also learned about a new k!nk and monster anatomy so that was fun hehe🤭

If you want a feral monster who could just about SPLIT HER IN HALF, THIS👏IS👏IT👏
It’s giving Monster’s k!nk.
It’s giving spicy forest shenanigans.
It’s giving “I can fix him no really I can”.

It’s also a novella, a GM Fairy ✨specialty✨!! Her ability to reliably tell a compelling, delicious, suspenseful story within the parameters of half the length of a standard novel is honestly amazing.

Do yourself a favor and preorder this scrumptious spicy af romance if you enjoy:

This novella was subversive and dark AF!

Marie “suffers” from autassassinophilia: she becomes s3xually ar0used by mortal peril. When she’s just settling into her affordable but decidedly shabby new digs, she finds out that all the previous tenants have disappeared under mysterious circumstances within days of moving in. Amidst a heated argument between her next door neighbors, she’s indulging in some s3xy self care when she becomes aware of a presence in her closet, but rather than thwarting her good time, her awareness of the unknown being fuels her fun time to completion.

Fear-eating creature Scully has harvested many a human through this one particular portal, but none have caught his regard other than being a means to feed himself - until he steals away with Marie. Her cries and screams affect him differently, connecting him to his less base urges, demanding he pl3asure and protect her rather than consume her. But how in the parallel portal can he keep her when their worlds and needs are so different? (Sp0il3r alert: I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s an absolute steamy great time!)

If you’ve ever wanted to read about a very adult version of m0nsters inc, this might just be the deliciously smu++y reimagining for which you’ve been waiting.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and BookSirens, and I’m sharing my honest review.

I have to say, I finished Scream for Me by GM Fairy in just one day. If you’re expecting romance, this is definitely not that kind of book. It’s full of smut, plain and simple.
Now, let’s get to my actual thoughts. A few chapters in, I started feeling like I was reading some sort of fever dream. The monster feeds on screams; it’s huge, has a tail, and horns. Sounds familiar? I thought the same thing, and kept telling myself, no, it can’t be. At the beginning, there’s no name given; it’s just referred to as “monster.” Later on, of course, we do learn his name, and from that point on, I was convinced I really was reading a fever dream. By the final chapter, it was clear.
Honestly, I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if the story had been a retelling of some different animation or even a Disney princess. Since it drew inspiration from one of my all-time favorite childhood animations, I didn’t actually have that much fun with it. This doesn’t mean the book is good or bad; it’s just about me and my personal taste.
That said, for readers who love dark monster smut and prefer something short, this book is absolutely ideal.

Scream for Me by GM Fairy held so much promise, but ultimately fell flatter than a pancake. A dark, MF monster romance retelling of Monsters Inc sounded like the perfect combination of heat, thrill, and fright—but what I got instead was a surprisingly tame and often disjointed read.

At just over a hundred pages, I expected a quick, intense story, yet it felt like a slog to finish. Even the gory fight scenes lacked grit or urgency, and the tension that should’ve driven the romance and horror forward never fully materialized. The premise is fun and creative, but the execution just didn’t deliver the punch it promised.

I was excited for this one, truly—but instead of screaming for more, I mostly wanted to put it down.

I really enjoyed this book, Sully and Marie were literally so cute. I would totally read a series that’s set around the monsters that woke up. Sully made me emotional when he started getting some of his memories back and remembered he has a name and that he was loved once, didn’t think I’d be crying while reading this book but here we are. Marie as a character was okay, honestly she was a little bland. Sully fully carried this book for me.

I've read a few of her books, so I was happy to receive this one for free.

Her books are always so… different? I guess that's the word… I've noticed that she usually likes to adapt a tale we all know (Monsters Inc, anyone?) and I'm always interested to see how she'll do it this time. This was DEFINITELY a different take on things. I'm not sure how she comes up with the story, but there are only a few similarities once she's done. A large, hairy monster named Scully. Short green dude, with one eye, named Wazco. Without screams, they can't survive. Regardless, it always leads to a short, fun, very spicy story.

🤔 The book started off strong, I tucked in ready for the possibilities this book would give. Unfortunately, it didn't give what I expected.

Marie was an alright FMC, however, she jumped from one emotion and thought to next so quickly my head spun. I realize the book was long enough to give a rich in depth feel to the story but I've read shorter books and got a lot more in those few pages than this book. I didn't connect with her struggles or helplessness. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Scully, I… I. What could I say? Monster was monstering and then he just, wasn't. 👀

It was very straightforward and predictable. Not too bad but it wasn't great either. The premise was promising, unique, it needed follow through. Maybe next time. 💁🏽‍♀️

I simply can't help but give it 5 stars.

G.M. Fairy has such an incredibly wonderful writing style that it's easy, quick, and smooth to read. almost like melted butter.

Although the plot in the book is rather short, it kept me hooked and made me smile. I simply love the references to Monsters, Inc., and I find the twist delightful.

And pardon me, but monster romance is a thing!

Never thought I'd fall for it 🤣🤣

If you're looking for a light, quick read with a simple plot mixed with plenty of good (monster) spice, this is the one for you :D

here we go again with another weirdly beautiful retelling! gm fairy is such a great writer, i eat her books up! this story was so sweet and hot, but i’m glad i haven’t seen monsters inc in a very long time because i think it would be too weird to read if i had the characters fresh in my mind 😅 but with that said, she did a great job making it unique and so much fun! i could honestly live in this book, i loved it. thank you to the author for the arc

Another great dark monster romance from GM Fairy. I am never disappointed with her monster romances. It has a hint of comedy, scares, and smut. An all-in-one package. 'Scream For Me' had all of that and it reminded me of Monsters Inc. but for adults. The smut scenes were freaking good like The Darkness had me in a chokehold. Can I be capture by a monster and sent to his realm?

I will highly recommend if you love dark monster romances.

This book was a quick, engrossing read that I finished in just a couple of hours. The protagonists—a furry monster who feeds on screams and his human partner, who is unusually aroused by fear—make for a surprisingly clever and compelling pair. Their chemistry keeps the story lively, and I was never bored for a moment.

As someone who loves animated movies (with Monster Inc. being one of my all-time favorites), I found an extra layer of enjoyment in this creative twist on monster romance.

So...WOW.

That's literally what this review is. Wow. Just, wow. And in a good way too, a really, REALLY good way! I remember when I first picked up one of G.M. Fairy's books, I loved the premise of the retelling and I thought to myself, "Hm, she should make more retellings"

And boy did she come through!!

I have to admit, I never watched Monsters University before, but I'd seen Sully and Boo and their dynamic, so seeing them come alive as Marie and Scully in Scream for Me was super exciting!! I loved Marie's character - she was strong-willed and really funny; her sarcasm appealed to me 😂and she was very relatable as a character. I also liked that she didn't back away from a challenge and expressed herself more openly with Scully when she started to feel more comfortable around him. I was so, SO glad that G.M. Fairy avoided the miscommunication trope! I'm not a huge fan of it happening, so when Marie and Scully spoke to one another I was relieved!

I am obsessed with Scully. Who doesn't want a big, growly monster who's a sweetheart for their woman? Scully was all of this and more! He was willing to risk his life for Marie and I loved how sweet he was with her. I always like MMCs who are a little shy and uncertain, because it shows how much they bond with the FMC and it really made me feel more for Scully. At first, I was nervous he'd be an unfeeling, completely cruel character, but I'm glad that Marie opened his heart up and showed him the beauty of his life. He was so cute when he was trying to understand Marie's world, her language, and especially 'cheeseburgers' 😂I'm so glad Marie showed him what cheeseburgers were.

The plot moved a little too fast for my taste, kind of whiplashy. However, I could easily visualize the darkness that Scully lived in and it felt like I was watching one of those 1990s Disney movies with the adventures and challenges. I loved G.M. Fairy's simple descriptions and I really felt immersed into the story, following Marie as she tried to escape all the creatures, and that moment where they finally reach "the door" felt like I was watching a movie. I wish we'd gotten more scenes with Marie and Scully like that suuuuuuper spicy water scene (iykyk 😏) because I wanted to see more of their bond cemented. I felt like I was starting to sense when their lust became love, but I think I needed something a little more concrete.

I also found myself, at times, confused about Scully's tethers, and I only really knew how they worked/looked because I saw a character art of Scully and Marie, but it felt like that entire description paragraph was bunched into one so it took me a while to create a visual of Scully in my mind.

What didn't take me long to visualize, though, were the spicy scenes! G.M. Fairy always writes the hottest, toe-curling scenes and this book was no exception! Scully, for all his sweetness during downtimes, was an insatiable monster, and seeing him know just how to make Marie feel good had me kicking my feet giggling! Plus, who doesn't want a massive, snarling monster seeking your pleasure? Sign me up for this war! 😂It took me a minute to understand Marie's tastes, and I thought it was interesting how G.M. Fairy incorporated those aspects of her life and aligned them perfectly with Scully's character! That pool scene in the cave was so easy to visualize - I could just see them in the water, surrounded by the darkness and each other! Truly, this is one of the few books where I felt like I was THERE! Like, right alongside Scully and Marie through their journey.

And although it may seem like it, this book isn't only about the spice. Is there a lot of it? Oh yes! We get right into it from chapter 1 and I'm not complaining! . But there was also a good amount of plot that balanced this spice. The journey of Marie and Scully, not only their actual journey, but also their emotional journey as a couple was heartwarming and I just loved everything about this!

Think monsters inc Characters, in an adult horroresque story and you've got this book.

It's more creepy/spooky than dark, so it's a good intro into monster smut if you've yet to dip your toe in (to my fellow readers- see what I did there?) 😉
There's no real violence or trauma as with most monster books which makes it almost a cozy read? I don't know, it's cute but still, consensual/ dub non-con is in there, along with a little bit of gore, but then there's also moments where he washes her hair and becomes the consent king... so yeah, odd one to categorise.

Love a good monster erotica and this is exactly that.
We have Scully the big scary monster that feeds on screams and lives in some dark, scary other realm forest land with all the other scary Monsters. And then we have Marie, a sweet and savoury young lady who has aged out of foster homes and finally got a place of her own, until she finds a monster in her wardrobe (closet).

I really liked that rather than this just being a smut read it did have a plot and better yet we had a really good explanation for the spicy scenes! Our FMC has a diagnosed problem where fear turns her on! Which I had to Google of course and wow, just, wow.
I loved this side of the story and the explanations, fears and joy that came from it.

The wrap up was fab and full on Stockholm but it made sense and fit the characters, leaving no loose threads and offering an optimistic and hopeful hea ending.

The reason for it missing the full 5 stars was that I was hoping for one of the twists to go a bit further, that there would be some jealousy and rescuing going on... or a sharing moment or a made to watch moment, i dunno, it was leading that way and i expected one thing but the writing chamged and the twist went a different direction- a good one dont get me wrong, just a more unexpected one. When you read it you will get it.

The pacing was fast and engaging all the way through, the writing style is easy to fall into and follow along and as with all G.M. Fairy books- It was a perfect mix of creepy, cute/sweet, overprotective male energy and spice.

It was a good quick read and I highly recommend it to my monster-loving girlies out there!

I’ve always loved a good monster book, and this one absolutely delivered. We meet Marie, who’s just moved into her own apartment, a tiny, rundown closet of a place in New York, but it’s hers, and that independence feels so satisfying. Marie has a bit of a fear kink, so when she imagines a monster in her room, she gets… well, excited... But then reality hits: her monster isn’t imaginary at all, and he’s very, very real and very, very hungry for more of her screams.

Darkness, that’s what he’s called at first though we do learn his actual name later, no spoilers, has been lost for years, trapped in a fog of his own existence and feeding off the screams of his victims. He’s used to feeding on fear, not desire, so discovering Marie’s screams of ecstasy completely throws him. He’s instantly drawn to her in a way that feels both dangerous and intoxicating.

What I loved most was the dynamic between Marie and Darkness. Both of them are broken in their own ways, trying to find themselves while navigating their complicated desires. Marie’s fear kink doesn’t make her naive; she still fights, still tries to resist, and that push and pull made their relationship feel real and exciting. For a novella, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-paced their connection was. I expected a lot of insta-love, but instead, the romance developed quickly yet naturally, which made it so much more satisfying.

And the monster şmüt? Cause let’s be honest, that is a huge part of the fun for this genre. It definitely delivers in this. The spice is absolutely delicious.

Overall, this is a great novella monster book and definitely scratches the itch if you like quick, intense monster reads.

This is a monster romance or rather monster retelling? Make sure you know what that means before reading this book.

We love this book! Scully is the MMC and he's a monster who has no memory other than his primal monster memory. His job as a monster is to feed on people and their screams, so think he steals them away, keeps them captive, and eats them. Yikes!

Marie is the FMC and she is obviously a human woman. She has finally found her own place all on her own No roommates just her and her thoughts. What a dream come true. However, she was told the place she found, which was a steal, is like haunted or something. Welp! Turns out it's Scully, obviously.

However, the way these two meet is quite something and I'd love nothing more than to spoil, but you REALLY should read this one to find out. Let's say it's a pleasure scream that kick starts Scully's new memories and helps him become more monster-man-like.

There is dark place where all monsters live and of course Scully and Marie are here, but her screams are attracting all the other monsters because they know there is something different about her screams.

We find out some interesting things about Scully and potentially all the monsters in the dark place. We also learn there is a light place or a bright place, which Marie MUST get to as she thinks this is her way back.

Turns out Scully doesn't want her to leave and he doesn't tell her he CAN take her back where she came, so they head to the light place. There is of course lots of drama along the way. Lots of fighting and escaping bad monsters and of course lots and lots of spice.

The light place we find out is a safe haven kind of place. There isn't too much lore spoken about this place, but I ASSUME it's light because of all the "screaming" going on here with the humans and monsters *wink* At this place we are passively introduced to another monster, but again not too much information is given.

This is a fast paced read, so go get your monster smut on

Thank you so much to book sirens for a free arc of this book!! All opinions shared are my own!

There is a distinct relationship between myself and books that take childhood movies and make them into monster/weird romance books, and it is a positive relationship. G.M. Fairy keeps adding to this and feeding the fire with these wild takes on films and I hope we see many more books added to this list. But if you love darker monster romance then this could be the book for you!

You could definitely see where the inspiration came from throughout the story, however, it was 10000% times more darker and very very smutty. The two main characters were fun, and I especially loved our MMC as it felt like he had more to gain from the situation they were in and I felt drawn to him and wanting him to have the life he deserves.

As a novella you often worry about character development and if you can connect to the characters as you don't get a lot of page time. This book however, perfectly combined the smut and the plot (YES THERE IS A PLOT) and I did feel like the characters developed a really beautiful connection as they went on this journey together. For 100 and so pages nothing felt rushed and it felt like a fully cooked story, I just wish it were longer because I love my long books.

G.M. Fairy has once again pulled me in with such a fun book and I hope everyone else who reads it also has a great time!

Scream for Me is a standalone in a shared world, Monsters of Darkness, full of monsters prowling in the dark. There was a balance between horror and cozy Monster romances. You'll get it when you read it. Marie goes from something the Darkness can use to something he can't be with out.

I read it in one sitting, novella yes, but I couldn't put it down. With novellas, it’s easy to feel rushed, not enough time to connect or see development. But this story managed to strike a balance between the steamy moments and the plot.

The depiction between sheer physical dominance and consent was done so well. Marie is determined to keep control despite her longing to let go.

I really wanted Scully and Marie to get the life they deserved. They were made for each other and able to explore their deepest desires. The predator thrives in fear, but comes alive as more complex urges develop.

“If it has to do with you, I enjoy it. I have a Marie kink.”
When I completed the book I may have strolled over to darque path and perused their items, alas nothing quite like Scully was available. I think he is one of a kind.

ARC Review

Thank you so much to BookSirens for the ARC.

I loved Marie's fierceness and unrelenting courage. I learned something new about kinks which was cool. Marie has a really likeable character and you can't help, but root for her. She was truly fearless and her hope for better rubbed off on Scully.

Speaking of Scully, I would describe him as a sweet horndog lol. I really like that we get to see Scully grow into a character as he comes to care for Marie. I loved seeing him priortize her safety and happiness over his desires.

However, I wasn't too fond of the revealtion of Scully's birth. I think if you write a monster romance, you don't need to humanize them through their genetics. It seemed odd to have that fact be pointed out when it didn't serve a purpose in the plot. Obviously yes, it provided context to Scully's background, but I found it odd that Marie explicitly points out, "You're part human. You have humanity in you". As if he hasn't already shown us his caring and kind nature towards Marie this entire time prior to this revelation. So does that mean, Marie only accepts him more now now that she knows his genetics and it is possible for him to be "civilized" enough to be with her? Civilized is not a word used in the book, but I can't see any other purpose to have Marie point out his humanity. Also I am not a huge fan of Scully's job choice at the end.

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for the E-ARC! This E-ARC was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.

I received this E-ARC after signing up for G.M. Fairy's Patreon and I am INCREDIBLY glad that I did. This is now in my top 3 favorite monster romance's I've read this year-Oh my god, this was FUN!
I loved the originality of the main character having tromolagnia in a plot where that makes each scene intense with heightened feelings. And all of the characters being based off of Monsters Inc but 10X scarier/more alluring? This author is talented with their creativity!
I read this in one sitting. I sat down to start it and could not put it down until the acknowledgments page. It was enthralling from the introduction to the ending. But the ending especially made this book even sweeter, giving it a proper, bright conclusion to a dreary story setting.
I had such a good time! I highly recommend picking this up when it comes out if you love monster romance with a gruff MMC who is soft for her but will also not hesitate to kill for her, a dark fantasy world full of monsters out to kill, and a FMC who doesn't shy away from the reality she's now been given but faces it head on and fights for her survival! Oh, and spice. Lots of spice.
