My Sweetest Obsession

Rate this book
I didn’t think I could love anyone the way I did my twin brother, then his fiancée became my sweetest obsession...

The first time I saw Ivy, I knew I had to have her.
It didn’t matter that she wasn’t mine.
Or that she belonged to my twin brother…
An instant cosmic connection that I couldn’t break took a stranglehold on me.
I thought I understood addiction.
Had battled it and won.
But every fleeting touch only makes me want more.
Each kiss drags me deeper into my obsession.
Ivy has become the worst kind of drug.
And actions have consequences.
A hard lesson I’ve learned in the most brutal way.
I’m being torn apart.
Those demons I’ve fought so hard to keep locked away shred me from the inside out.
I’ve lived through unimaginable loss and pain.
Agonizing guilt and shame.
I know I should walk away, but…
Ivy has become my sweetest obsession even if she might be what truly destroys me.

My Sweetest Obsession is the conclusion of the The Sweetest Lie Duet and what a heartbreaking, yet uplifting journey it was. Told mostly from Cam's POV with a chapter here and there from Ivy's POV, this story delves deep into some really deep, emotional triggers involving all manner of obsession, addiction, fear, guilt, self-hate and so much more. Gwyn takes us on the ride of lifetime not only in this story but with the duet as a whole - one which will anger you, make you cry and bring you hope in their darkest hours. Both have to navigate all the emotions in order to find their way to the other side to finally see the light, the colors of their lives and loves.

“I don’t want you to ever see yourself as only one thing, Cam. Just like your paintings, you’re not all black and white. There are a thousand different shades of gray in them, and there are in you, too. And in me, and in everyone else.”

And aren't we all made up of different shades of gray.

My Sweetest Obsession is the second part of The Sweetest Lie duet and it’s told mainly through Cam’s pov and my god this story has taken over my life. I have struggled to read anything else since book one and book 2 has me shattered.

This story is a testament to the ruin that love can leave in its wake but also the power it has to heal and overcome; if you let it. Ivy and Cam’s story is not an easy one. There were so many twists, especially the one at the end of book 2 and the pain of the comeback…worth every tear I cried while reading.

The angst, pain, and hurt in this story is prominent as both try to find their way to what comes next. Each emotion is weaved onto every page so much so that you feel you’re right there with them as they navigate the world.

My heart ached in the most beautiful way reading this duet and I don’t know if I’ll look at books again if they don’t have the depth that Ivy and Cam do.

I loved this duet! The pain that this couple went through was beyond anything I could imagine. As much as I was screaming at these characters, I was crying too. Because their story was heartbreaking. This author has a way of writing that pulls you into the story. You feel the emotions. I cried every time these characters teared up. This is definitely one of my favorites this year.

Absolutely heart wrenching. The immense pain in Cam's world and the hate in Ivy's.

The need they feel for each other, but can't work around the loss of Drew.

Incredibly moving story of love, loss, addiction and life.

Finally! The conclusion I’ve been waiting for. For me, this one was a bit tougher to read because being inside Cam’s head the majority of the book was depressing. You really feel all the guilt, hurt and anguish in his thoughts but you also get a taste of just how obsessed he is with Ivy. I knew he was obsessed with her but I just didn’t know how deep it really went until this book, to the point where it was unhealthy. He didn’t have any dangerous motives with her, so I guess that’s good but it was just how deep she was under his skin that had me thinking this can’t be good. He let her consume him to where all he thought about was her and making sure she was ok and watching her from afar. He didn’t care about himself or really anyone else and he did feel guilty for that because he kept thinking that. This ultimately has him going into downward spirals but still was able to ground himself to not succumb to alcohol or drugs this whole time, which is crazy because being filled with so much guilt and anguish can do things to someone that I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned to those vices to just forget and feel good. In reading this book you find out that it wasn’t the drugs and drinking that he was addicted to, it was in her. He felt consumed by what he did to her and Drew that he turns to the drugs and alcohol to forget and destroy himself because that’s what he feels he deserves and those emotions pull him under because he blames himself and doesn’t think he should find happiness which seemed to morph into depression for him. Suddenly, after that realization on the readers end, Cam already figured this out. For me, everything clicked into place and she becomes his trigger because every time he sees her, he feels this overwhelming sense of guilt, sadness and anguish over what he did to Drew and the reason he passed, yet, he also finds happiness. The reason for not going back to his drinking and drugs is because he has her as his fix and that’s enough for him. In a sense it’s romantic, but at the same time can be dangerous. There’s no telling what could happen if she passes away or something happens to her what he will do. The thought of that makes me nervous and can potentially put Cam at risk based on how emotional and how easily anything involving Ivy gets for him as a trigger. Even with sweet gestures he does for her he gets nervous and on edge because he thinks she doesn’t like it or that he overstepped. It’s like he always needs reassurance and approval from her because he still carries his guilt around and never seems to get past it. Everything he goes through in this book is a testament to feeling Ivy out and letting her heal at her own pace and to respect it, even if she hates him forever but he refuses to leave her alone even though it would have been better for his mental health and sobriety. He lets her stew in that hate and anger but still was able to be there for her even when she didn’t want it. I’m sitting here, trying to figure out why I didn’t like this one as much as part one but it still broke me because of the emotions and situations they were putting themselves into, fueling the addiction, carrying this angst and guilt with the confusion. I think it’s because I didn’t like how he kept putting himself in triggering situations by going to Ivy and her using him for her own pleasure and essentially treating their intimacy as not one of love, but coldness and anger. Cam kept fanning these flames and getting pulled back to her because he believed he deserved this from her. He can’t quit her and needs her like an addiction. This brings me back to her being his choice in place of drug and alcohol consumption. He kept going to her for a fix and in turn he became hers because he helped her forget the hurt, anger, sadness and confusion she carried with her. It was an endless cycle of using and breaking each other because no matter what happened, Cam couldn’t stay away and neither could Ivy. It’s a very emotional, dark and depressing journey. Eventually, Ivy was able to move forward and realize it isn’t Cam’s fault and she could be with him and love him without feeling guilty and Cam could be with her too for those same reasons. The book ends with a lightness I didn’t think would be possible after this story and a calm in the storm because there will always be one brewing where both of them are concerned. The idea that they take it one day at a time is smart since anything can have the potential to trigger them and wonder if what they are doing is right. Well done, Gwyn, you managed to write something so complex and beautiful that I feel stunned and ripped apart after finishing this series.

My Sweetest Obsession is a beautiful love story born from the depths of tragedy. Written by author Gwyn McNamee, the duet continues where My Sweetest Agony ended. From the very first words in book two, the reader is plunged into the despair that Cam is suffering and the agony that his truths have revealed. His guilt is overwhelming; he has hit rock bottom, and he has Ivy swimming in the reality of his actions.

This story twisted my emotions in every direction. Cam and Ivy’s journey to a life where they are able to move forward, free of guilt, and one where forgiveness is possible may wreck you. This journey is painful and raw, and the characters question their feelings at every turn. But it is their journey, a healing journey that brings light back into their lives after the darkness swallowed them whole.

If you’re ready for a romance that isn’t all smooth sailing, but instead is paved on a road of trials, tribulations, and indescribable pain, along with angst, betrayal, secrets, and an obsession so powerful, the characters are unable to break free of it, then put this duet on your reading list. You won’t be disappointed. Sure, there is pain, but there is also such a beautiful connection between Cam and Ivy. A connection that quite possibly was always meant to be, but they had to work to get there. In the end, the journey to the HEA was well worth it. The Sweetest Lie duet will stay with me for a long time and has definitely hit my “favorite reads of 2025” list.

I may need to send Gwyn McNamee my therapy bill after finishing My Sweetest Obsession, the last book in her The Sweetest Duet. This story took me on an emotional rollercoaster. While My Sweetest Agony was emotional, this sequel goes even deeper by focusing on Cam’s perspective. His feelings, particularly about Ivy and his brother Drew, truly brought on the waterworks. After the cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I should have expected the angst and emotional moments that followed.

Ivy’s reaction to Cam’s confession about what happened to her husband, Drew, was completely justified, and I would have done the same. To make things even more emotional, she faces a life-changing moment in this book. Throughout the story, I felt for Ivy and hoped she would find happiness after everything she endured.

I appreciated that this book was mainly told from Cam’s point of view. While it was hard to read some of his struggles, it was important to read his side. He may come across as the bad boy, the opposite of his twin, but he has a sweet side when it comes to Ivy. He made sure she ate and offered her things throughout the story. Even after learning new things about her, he never gave up on being part of her life.

This book is now one of my favorites. The emotional storyline and characters drew me in from the start. Cam and Ivy’s love story is both tragic and moving. Ivy gave Cam color in his life, and Cam revived Ivy’s spirit. That’s why they belong together. I give this book five stars, and I wish I could give it more.

POV: First Person (Dual POV)

Word of warning: DO NOT BE ME and read either of these books as work because you will be a sobbing emotional mess. One that has your coworkers asking if you're okay.

My Sweetest Obsession is the second part to The Sweetest Lie Duet and is told mostly from Cam's point of view. Throughout this book we witness more of the struggle Cam has been through and continues to go through on a daily basis. Ivy and Cam's story is not an easy one to read, it's one filled with loss, love, addiction and life. Just when you think your heart recovered from the first book, Gwyn McNamee punched us all in the gut with this second book.

This book is heavy with angst, pain and hurt as both Cam and Ivy work through what has been revealed previously. As both of them navigate what comes next, you can't help but get sucked into the emotion that Gwyn has managed to weave through every page.

Just when Ivy thinks she's beginning to heal from the grief of losing her fiancée, Cam drops the bombshell on her. Cam has vulnerabilities that bleeding through every page. Knowing he struggles with addiction we get a first hand view into how much this affected him and how possibly losing Ivy will send him into a tailspin. I can't even describe how well written Cam's struggle is and how it portrayed in such a realistic way.

This duet is heart wrenching, but painfully beautiful. Can some secrets ever be forgiven? Or will the truth that came to light wrench Cam and Ivy apart forever?

A true masterpiece!!
My Sweetest Obsession is the second book and engrossing conclusion to Gwyn McNamee’s Sweetest Lie duet.
Masterfully written to obliterate your heart into a million pieces.
My Sweetest Agony was focussed on Ivy’s despair and pain over losing Drew and that book wrecked me.
But Holy Mother of Moses Cam’s point of view destroyed me!!
The raw soul crushing guilt Cam carries and reveals to Ivy is incredibly heart- wrenching.
All the angst, the tension, the pain…it cuts you so deeply you can’t help but cry and metaphorically bleed for Cam.
Can Ivy forgive him? Can this level of hurt ever be forgiven? Can this love overcome all of the pain?
To say this book is emotionally challenging is an understatement.
Every page takes us on such a profound heart-pounding and compelling journey and you can’t help being invested in Cam and Ivy’s, highly gripping and thought-provoking romance.
It’s simply the very definition of BEAUTY through pain.
I fully recommend this book not only because it’s IMPRESSIVELY HEART-STOPPING but also because of its unique take on light versus darkness. Cam and Ivy story will take your breath away and leave you feeling so utterly overwhelmed.

This sequel was fine, but it did hit the emotional high I wanted. The entire mess traces straight back to Camden's selfish decisions every consequence, every heartbreak, every spiral. And honestly? He deserved the blame. He’s the reason everything detonated in the first place.

That said, the second part of the duet still delivered a kind of angst, yearning, and raw pain that very few books pull off. Even when the plot felt a bit weaker, the emotions landed. Hard. It’s not perfect, but it did give me that hollow-chested ache I was looking for.

[MAYBE A SPOILER]
Also as we can see Camden was obsessed with Ivy since he first saw her, but during separation he was so broken and wanted to forget her because she was happy very happy with her boyfriend and did not know him, he started doing drugs and slept around with women. Yes he fucked around to forget her but it did not bother me as much it should have in this story particularly because it was complicated. That being said I would have loved if he was celibate as it would have made his love and obsession seem worth it for all he did.

🖤 My Sweetest Obsession Review 🖤

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

My Sweetest Obsession is the 2nd book in the Sweetest Lie duet. And let me tell you if the first book didn’t wreck you this one sure will! 😭 The amount of angst and yearning in this book is unreal. I couldn’t put it down for anything. If you’ve read the first one you know how it ended so this one picks up right where My Sweetest Agony left off. And the entire book is Ivy dealing with the bombshell Cam dropped and Cam learning, growing and becoming a better person. 😭 There are also so many twist and turns I never saw coming that made me even more obsessed with this story! Reviewing this book without spoilers is so hard because I just want to scream my favorite parts of the book from the rooftops but it would give everything away. 😂 So you HAVE to go read this duet to find out! My Sweetest Obsession was the perfect ending to this duet and they both have became my favorite reads of the year. I cannot recommend this beautiful story

I really enjoyed My Sweetest Obsession, if it was possible it was even better than book 1 and book 1 was great. I missed sleep for this book because i just adored the story. This book made you feel so many emotions and you really felt what the characters were going through- the heartbreak, anger, sadness and those small happy moments that were shared. Both Ivy and Cam were great main characters who I really enjoyed and bought out such complex emotions from me. Whilst both had such a tough journey that was intriguing but also heartbreaking, Cam’s journey was particularly heart wrenching and yet was portrayed so realistically whilst also being written carefully and respectfully. Finding out all of the secrets that were being kept and seeing the journey these 2 went on just made you love these two characters more. The secondary characters were great and i loved how supportive and loving they were.

If readers thought The Sweetest Agony by Gwynn McNamee — the first book in this duet — was emotional and addictive, prepare yourselves, because The Sweetest Obsession will shatter your heart all over again. This spellbinding conclusion to Ivy and Cam’s story takes everything you thought you knew and turns it inside out.

Don’t let the word sweetest fool you — this is not a charming, gentle romance. It’s raw, gut-wrenching, and painfully beautiful. As Cam reveals one final secret, Ivy’s fragile world is torn apart once more. Can love survive when the truth cuts so deep? Can some secrets ever really be forgiven?

Cam stole my heart — his vulnerability bleeds through every page. And Ivy, oh sweet Ivy… just when she begins to heal from the grief of losing her fiancé — Cam’s brother — another devastating truth threatens to break her all over again.

For all his demons, Cam’s love for Ivy never wavers. Every action, every sacrifice, every heartbreak proves one thing — she will always be his Sweetest Obsession.

The heart wrenching story of Cam and Ivy continues and it doesn’t disappoint. After everything that Cam has revealed he has little hope that Ivy will be able to make peace with the revelation, and he doesn’t believe that he deserves her. The depth of his love for Ivy was all encompassing, but they have a lot of healing to do if they are going to overcome everything holding them apart.

Ivy was devastated by her fiancé’s death and surprised by her feelings for Cam, his twin brother. She was starting to let him into her heart and her life only to have a bombshell dropped that will her questioning everything including where they go from here.

Cam and Ivy take us on emotional roller coaster that continues to bring surprises which up the angst considerably but underneath it all is a love and connection that is both powerful and healing.

Omg, that ending absolutely destroyed me—in the most beautiful way possible. It was the perfect conclusion to an equally stunning story. When I say the writing in this duet will have you feeling all the feels, I mean it in every sense. One moment you’ll be swooning, and the next, you’ll be sobbing like a baby.

Gwyn McNamee’s ability to capture emotion is nothing short of breathtaking. Every feeling, every scene, every color and shift in the weather is described so vividly that you can see it all unfold like a movie in your mind. I’ve loved all of Gwyn McNamee’s books, but this duet has truly become my favorite.

If you’re searching for a love story that’s raw, emotional, and unforgettable—look no further. This duet is an absolute must-read.

I knew this book was going to one that provoked emotions and probably tears, so I had my tissues close by and even put off reading it right before bed because I wanted to be able to sleep. This is one of those books that when you're done you just need to marinate on how to explain/review it in a way that would do it justice. Cam reveals so much about his struggles/regrets/self-loathing while being completely enamored with Ivy. While everyone here is dealing with grief there is much more to the story and trying to find a way to live while feeling like your issues are unresolved is a true struggle. The ending was just what I needed to heal the heartbreak. Check the trigger warnings if you need two and if you haven't read book one in this series then start there!

OH MY POOR HEART! My Sweetest Obsession is the second part to the sweetest lie duet and it is heartbreaking. If you thought the first book was emotional then you are in for a rough ride with this one, so keep you a box of tissues in reach.
In this one we get to see the after math of Cam’s confession to Ivy. It’s completely heartbreaking to see Cam blame himself for everything that happened. Though no matter what this man is there for her even if she doesn’t want him to be. I felt that no matter how selfish Cam may have been, Ivy was just as selfish in this book. Not being able to see all the damage that she was inflicting on Cam through her actions. Once your emotions have been flayed open you do get a happy ending.

Beautiful!

I can't say it enough. BEAUTIFUL,!When you read the first part of the duet ,it looks and feels like Cam has no chance of ever being in Ivy's life and he has a dark, trouble past that I thought he would end his life. But he didn't, there's a tiny flame that wouldn't go out and Cam kept clawing for it and wouldn't let it extinguish out.I couldn't put this story down,I was rooting for team Cam all the way but Ivy had my heart too,she was scared too,she loved Drew so much and to have him taken away so soon.Of course she would have to place blame on Cam and it wasn't easy for her because she was always seeing Drew when she was seeing Cam and she had to push him out of her life to try to exist and deal on her time.Worth more than five stars for sure!

This morally grey, forbidden romance with an obsessive/protective hero was so good. There's shared grief with so much angst. The spice is spicy too. It's an excellent conclusion to the previous story. Loved this book so much. An emotional roller coaster from start to finish. And an addictive read that kept me turning the pages. A masterful story that grips you, holds you captive, and doesn't let go until the very end. Secrets are revealed. Truths are exposed. And an amazing, lovely romance comes to fruition but not without a lot of obstacles to overcome. It's a phenomenal story that I highly recommend.

It’s been a while since an author made me cry while reading her work, but the waterworks sure came out for this one. I didn’t cry for the 1st part of this duet, but this one had me in all the feels. Camden had my sympathy from beginning to end. His obsession with Ivy caused him to make decisions that caused grief and pain for all involved. However, it would seem that their connection was always meant to be. I felt his anguish, pain and regret, but I also felt his love and sacrifice. The beautiful surprise at the end was needed and helped with the healing process, and everyone ended up having their HEA. Loved it!

Loved this duet!!

I loved the conclusion of the story of Cam and Ivy! The beginning was such a shock. I didn't think that Ivy would ever stop hating Cam. Nor did I think that Cam would stop hating himself. But with the little constant things he would do for her, then the baby's room, gah! It broke through her walls. It took Marlow to give her the honest truth for her to realize it wasn't hate, but love. This story was a rollercoaster, but I'm so glad I was along for the ride. I love this duet. I highly recommend! I honestly love everything by Gwyn McNamee! Off to the next book.

I had to wait and write my review for both books in this duet. As much as I enjoy this author’s works I really wasn’t sure how My Sweet Agony made me feel apart from a serious dislike of Cam, and a kind of toughen up feeling to Ivy.
My Sweet Obsession then brought it all together for me, and I realised these reads hit all the spots. If you like intense emotional stories, which reflect some of the harder sides of life then you won’t go wrong grabbing this duet.

Please read any trigger warnings, as these books cover some intense topics.

I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

This book had all the feels! It continued right where My Sweetest Agony left off Cam reveals he is the reason why Ivy lost her fiancé and Cams twin brother Drew. This book made my stomach go into knots made me feel all the emotions in the book. I don’t want to give too much away this book will break your heart for Cam as it was mostly in his POV. I love how sweet Cam is in this book. Yes I know it’s sounds weird with him being the reason Drew died BUT! not in the way you think and definitely not in the way I was thinking at the end of the previous book.

I don’t even know where to begin.
My Sweetest Obsession picks up right after My Sweetest Agony (so make sure you read them in order)

My heart was still shattered and tears still flowing while I was reading this book.
It will give you all the emotions. You can’t help but feel for Cam.
I was his biggest cheerleader while Ivy was working through everything.
To see where both Cam and Ivy started to where they ended up makes you feel like anything is possible.
I was so happy that Gwyn as able to put my broken heart back together.

What a conclusion to an epic duet! We left off from book one with one heck of an admission by Cam that left Ivy, and us, reeling. Their story wasn't the typical romance novel. It was messy and painful. They both had to work hard to overcome the pain and sorrow of Drew's passing. I loved the use of art and color to express Cam's struggles with his guilt and shame. I really enjoyed reading from mostly Cam's perspective in this story. It added depth to the story that put it over the top. Can't wait for more from this author!

Wow!

Dedication, obsession or simply true love?

Either way I freaking love Cam Usher!

Ivy doesn't know if she can forgive Cam for what he has done. Cam is still completely and utterly in love with her!

I was truly INVESTED in Cam and Ivy's duet.

This was a heartbreaking story, with wrong choices, terribly horrible gut wrenching angst. Intense and deep spice and a beautiful HEA.

I definitely recommend this book and duet 👌

This book is such a fantastic read that once you are finished you will want to reread it. The pace is perfect for the flow of the story keeping it moving at a good speed which makes it an enjoyable read. The characters are very relatable and you feel as though you know them and no matter what happens you want to see them succeed. This book will not disappoint and needs to be at the top of your TBR list, no doubt about it. This book has to be read.

I could not wait for this book to come out! I wanted to see how Cam and Ivy would end up. This book had a lot of Cam's perspective and I feel like that helped me understand him a lot more. This book definitely hit me in the feels department a lot. Sometimes you can't help who you love even if lots of people would tell you it is "wrong".....
I didn't want to put this book down and it did not disappoint.

This amount of romantic suspense and angst this book gives you still has you sitting on the edge of your seat until the very end of this book. This book is mostly Cam’s story and trying to figure out how he can still have Ivy in his life even though she is a trigger. Ivy fights feeling how she still loves drew but Cam came into her life like one big wrecking ball that she doesn’t want to get rid of either. This book closes out the duet beautifully.
