Heart Acquired

Rate this book
Halani Harper is a brilliant mind who is undervalued and under estimated. She built her cybersecurity firm from the ground up only to wake up one morning and find it sold out from under her. She is betrayed by her business partner and her company is acquired by a man she can’t respect.

Azien Maddox is a billionaire shark in the tech world, known for buying companies and stripping them for parts. When he signs the deal to purchase Harper-Ward he doesn’t expect to acquire the previous owner. She’s not a deal he can close and walk away from especially since the program he paid millions for is useless without her.

Halani forces Azien into a deal: she stays, runs the show, and gets back partial ownership of her company. Unfortunately working with Azien means stepping into his world. One where power is a game and control is a currency.

She might have won the battle but with a man like Azien, winning the war is another story. It’s no longer just business when emotions are involved.

(3.5⭐️)My goodness was Halani a firecracker lol. She spent the first half of the book spitting fire & about to murder this man lol. Whole time knowing that she was just trying to reconcile her attraction to him. And Azien didn’t make it easy for her, because he would intentionally antagonize her🤣Once they both got it together though and stopped playing the cat & mouse game, I enjoyed seeing her soften and lean into his overwhelming presence. When the shoe dropped, watching him protect her and handle the situation effortlessly…chef’s kiss👏🏾. I like that K.C took us into a slightly different world with tech & business stuff and showed us the glaring double standard of how the media handles scandals as it pertains to men vs women.

I forgot how much I love a good workplace romance! The banter between Halani and Azien was so good and I loved when we got some side bits from Sasha and Bryah. They were very cute petty, maybe a little stalkery - in a good way lol. You get some corporate scandal, slightly rivalry vibes that I was living for. When Azien went into takedown mode with Kevin.. come on big daddy. I enjoyed the idea of having this brilliant tech genius be a black woman too because who is smarter than a black woman with her mind made up about something?!

Good read for a Saturday evening!

Now this was truly #TechBae in book form!!! Let me start by saying this, Black women in the field of technology need to be recognized and respected, period. Azien was a real one. A true man’s man who didn’t try to control Halani, but gave her all the space to just be herself. Still, he let it be known he respected her and would protect her by any means necessary. The chemistry between the characters was on point, literally everyone could see it lol. What really had me though was how intentional they were with each other, even though it seemed like they were both trying hard to run away from each other.
