Now featuring on major Guy Ritchie produced show The Diamond Heist on Netflix
The story of the biggest and most audacious robbery in history, the Millennium Dome diamond raid.
“Sports cars, Jaguars, sheepskin coats, sawn off shotguns, knuckle dusters and a cuppa o’ Rosy Lee with my old mum; my locker was filled with the things that I chose to put in it.”
Lee Wenham was born to be an arch criminal. With his sticky fingers firmly placed in many illicit pies, Wenham, who comes from a notorious Gypsy family, was set for a life of crime.
Now, in his ‘no holds barred’ memoir Lee details the hair-raising and often hilarious tales of his life of crime and how he became an integral part of the ill-fated Millennium Dome Diamond Heist as he and his gang attempted to steal jewellery worth a huge £350million.
Fascinating story from one of the "Millenium Dome Heist" crew. However that is only a very small part of the book and to be honest the rest of the book was far more interesting than that. This is the tale of a boy who was always going to be involved in crime. Boredom set in if he wasn't planning and scheming, thinking of new ideas to make more money the wrong side of the law. Trudging back and forth across his fathers' farm fields with his sacks of money to fund his lifestyle of fast cars, flash clothes and holidays. At no point do you sense that Lee is repentant for his crime. He comes across as very proud of what he achieved, even the failed jobs meant he was still "someone". Even his time inside, which it does not go into a great detail of, comes across as very "smooth".
A gripping read from a member of the “Millennium Dome Heist” crew — though the heist itself is just a small part of the story. The real focus is on a boy seemingly born for crime, always scheming for the next illegal payday. Lee shows no remorse, taking pride in his exploits, failed or not, and even his prison time comes across as smooth and untroubled.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publishers for this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
But rating aside if you’re a fan of biography’s then you absolutely need to read Diamond Gangster and hear all about Lee’s story and how the £350 million millennium done heist came about!!
A delve into the life a very interesting person. The books offers insight into Lees upbringing and how became the man he is. Comical at times and an easy read.
