Did y'all know I'm an award-winning author? I don't often say that, but it's true. I was thrilled when Grave Consequences won third place in the Director's Choice Awards at the 2021 Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. Book two, Grave Decisions, which I'm still editing, has won its fair share of awards prior to publication. And a new Work In Progress (WIP) The Red Dirt Girls won first place for fiction at the 2023 Carolina Christian Writers Conference. It's always nice to win validation for our writing. But I love it when my friends win, too. I'd love to encourage you in your writing if you are an author or a wannabe. Get in touch with me and let me cheer you on. I'm a great encourager!
I was born and reared (as my Mama would say, not raised which is for animals) in south Alabama in a tiny little town that was the best place on earth to have spent my formative years. Friendships made there endure to this day even though many miles separate us.
Much of my childhood was spent singing with my big sister Bobbie who lives in Heaven now. We traveled all over our little town and surrounding areas providing entertainment in old-folks homes, as they were called back then, or for civic events. Sundays found us singing in a church somewhere.
Besides music, reading, and writing were my favorite pass times as a child. I spent hours lying on the floor pouring over our Childcraft books, memorizing as many poems as possible. I’ve long since forgotten the number, but some of them still come to mind from time to time. By age thirteen I’d written my first novel. A romance. You must wonder what in the world a thirteen-year-old knew about romance. Nothing. That’s kind of the point. The story was terrible and I’ve no clue whatever became of it. A very good thing.
My college years took me to the big city, Birmingham, where I met my husband. I went to the Methodist school on one side of town while he attended the Baptist one on the other. A whole lot of years, four boys, one daughter-in-law, two perfect granddaughters, a passel of grand-dogs later, we’ve lived in that big city, on the beach in Florida, and now we’re settled in the mountains of western North Carolina.
My faith and my family are the two most important things in my life. It was my love of genealogy, searching for my roots, that the need to write family stories settled upon my spirit. All those years spent chasing after ancestors wound their way into story after story in my heart and then worked their way onto the printed page.
So, grab a rocker, a tall glass of sweet tea, a good book, and let’s settle in for an afternoon of reading and talking. If that talk happens to turn to genealogy or food, well, that’s even better. There’s nothing quite like down-home Southern cooking and talking about the kinfolk. I’m not a bad cook, if I do say so, as long you don’t ask me to make biscuits. I could almost bet you, somewhere along the line, we’ll be kin.
Grave Decisions in book 2 in the Charlotte Graves mysteries series by Debra DuPree Williams. Charlotte Graves has found new members of her family and now has another mystery to solve. As she unravels clues to help her, will she put herself or her family in danger? Will she let her feelings for her former boyfriend bubble up and see where they go?
Charlotte Graves now lives in the beautiful Rose Haven mansion with her grandmother. Her grandmother’s offer to give her the whole estate shocks her. Things are going so well with her renewed relationship with Roan Steele and her job as a genealogist. Before she can even consider it, people from her past challenge the home’s ownership.
Now she’s fighting for her family home. Intruders and murder quickly escalate the danger. And then someone close to Charlotte is accused of murder, further entangling her into the mayhem.
This talented author’s latest cozy mystery is another page-turner! Her strong Southern voice shines in Grave Decisions, the second book in the series. This well-written novel draws readers into the mystery from the beginning, one that includes William Shakespeare.
Lovable, realistic characters invited me into a small Alabama town in the 1960s. Williams weaves such an authentic feel that the characters seem to step off the page.
Highly recommended for those who enjoy cozy mysteries!
Another entertaining, grab-a-cuppa tea, pull-up-a-chair and sit-a-spell Southern mystery.
If you've read Grave Consequences, you'll want to return through the doors of the Rose Haven estate with Grave Decisions. Within this deep South mansion, you'll reconnect with Williams' lovable and sometimes quirky characters. Her southern voice shines in this well-written, twist-and-turn Charlotte Graves mystery that keeps you guessing—albeit usually wrong.
Once again, Charlotte, the family tree-climbing, dusty document explorer, will keep you turning pages. Driven by her desire to remain at Rose Haven with her beloved Grammy, Charlotte resorts to what she does best—digging up dirt. In the process, she unearths shocking family secrets that call for another raucous meeting in Rose Haven's cozy conservatory. Oh, to be a fly on the wall during those family gatherings.
As a bonus, Williams tucked mouth-watering family recipes in the back and opened the book with a helpful Cast of Characters that kept this reader on track. If you love Southern Fiction, this is a fun read.
This is the second book in a series and I can't wait for more of these books. You will fall in love with some of the characters and loathe some of them to. Reading this book makes you feel like you are right there beside the characters, rooting for the good and holding your breath waiting to find out who the bad guy or guys are. This is a few months after the first book where Charlotte is finally settling into a routine, when all of the sudden her ex shows up with his wife. Sissy Jo comes barging in claiming to be kin. She is one of the characters that will make you want to jump into the book and slap some sense into her, if that would even help. How will Charlotte handle this news along with someone close to her getting arrested? You don't want to miss this one and it will leave you anxiously awaiting the next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed are in my own words.
An enjoyable read. There were lots of mysteries happening at the same time and sometimes it did get a bit confusing. As the main character did research and tried to solve all these different mysteries, readers only got to see part of the picture. There were times we knew she knew something, but we didn’t know what she had learned until the big reveal at the end. It made it hard to figure out the answers as the reader. That being said, it’s an interesting book that left me wanting to know what these characters will get up to next!
In book two of the Charlotte Graves Mystery series, Debra DuPree Williams delivers a tangled web of intrigue including a question of inheritance, hidden historical documents, a secret treasure and murder. When handed the grand old family estate, Charlotte is suddenly obligated to grapple with a host of characters that complicate life for her in the old South. (The book includes the added bonus of Southern recipes!) A read to kick back and enjoy.
On the second book of the series we found Charlotte living in Rose Haven with her newly found grandmother, but of course she gets involved in another mystery, what would happen this time? Especially with a potential new cousin married to Charlotte's former fiancee who wants to get half of Rose Haven. With small time feeling and quirky characters this book will surely entertain you.
Filled with quirky characters, suspense, mystery, relationships, and more, this is a story that kept me reading. I enjoyed reading this one. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
