McBride Brother Lumberjacks #2

Beyond the Mountain Sky

Rate this book
I’ve always loved McBride Mountain and the fact that it bore my adopted last name…
But now that the truth is out, that has changed.
What I thought I knew vanished the moment I learned about my past.
Everything feels wrong.
Nothing can lift me from the darkness I’ve fallen into…
Except the beautiful woman with wildly dyed hair who appears in town with a dangerous secret.
She’s running from something—or someone.
Clearly not interested in getting close to anyone during her time here in our small town.
Yet, I’m drawn to her as if her blue eyes hold all the answers I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.
She’s the only thing that’s felt right in so long.
A sweet haven from my tainted reality.
But when the past she’s fleeing comes to the mountain…
Protecting the ones I love may mean becoming the very thing I dread.

Beyond the Mountain Sky is the second steamy, angsty contemporary mountain man romance in the McBride Brother Lumberjacks Series about a grumpy lumberjack fighting with his past, a woman on the run, an attraction they can’t deny, and danger from beyond the mountain that threatens everything. The McBride Brother Lumberjacks Series is best read in order, starting with Beneath the Mountain Sky.

I love these McBride boys. This book had so many surprises from Liam coming to terms about his biological dad… to who is Lucky, and why is she so skittish. I loved the suspense, and I was dying to know her story. I loved little Gizmo. He really was the hero of this book. This whole town closes ranks when it decides you belong there. Lucky was theirs from the first drinks that fell from her tray.

Explosive. All-consuming. Unforgettable.

Beyond the Mountain Sky is an angsty, steamy small town romance packed with emotion, suspense and heart-stopping tension.
Liam is a grumpy, guarded lumberjack struggling with the truth about his past when Lucky walks into his life—fierce, wary and shaped by a history that’s left its scars.

Lucky is guarded for a reason. Her past has taught her to keep her walls high and her trust tightly locked away. While she’s running from danger, she’s also discovering something she’s never truly had before a family.
The people of McBride Mountain become her unexpected refuge, offering loyalty, protection and a sense of belonging she never believed was possible. That newfound family makes her bond with Liam even more powerful and the stakes even higher.

Their love is intense, all-consuming and utterly magnetic.
Lucky is the first woman Liam has ever been with and every touch, glance and moment they share is raw, emotional and deeply meaningful.
Liam’s devotion to Lucky…his Bluebell is unwavering. He would do anything to protect her, even if it means embracing the darkness he fears lives himself.

Liam is the book boyfriend we all want—protective, fiercely loyal and devastatingly swoony.

As for Lucky, she’s so likeable! Endearing , reserved at first, strong and relatable.
You can’t help but root for her, want her to be happy and feel her fear and triumph as if it were your own.

When Lucky’s dangerous past finally finds her, it erupts into a pulse-pounding struggle filled with bullets, fear and sheer desperation…but this time, she isn’t alone.
Liam, her found family and even Gizmo, the fiercely protective Frenchie, stand with her, fighting tooth and nail to keep her safe. The tension is electric, the stakes are life-or-death and the emotional payoff is breathtaking.

BEAUTIFULLY written, emotionally rich and impossible to put down, Beyond the Mountain Sky is a MUST read for lovers of grumpy mountain men, guarded heroines, first love, found family, and a love so intense it burns off the page.

As always a massive thank you to Gwyn McNamee for the eARC of Beyond the Mountain Sky!

I fell in love with her lumberjacks in the Lumberjacks in Love series and have been super excited for more when it was announced that the McBride Brother Lumberjacks would be coming.

"I may love this mountain. I may love my family. But if it came down to it, I would choose her every time."

Book two picks up in the aftermath of what had occurred in book one and how Lucky was attempting to deal with everything. He's having trouble coming to terms with the man who was his sperm donor and worries that he could turn out the same. A chance encounter late at night changes everything for him.

When he almost runs over a cute French bulldog at night he doesn't know what to think and has no idea what is to come in his future. Little does he know a woman with blue hair is about to give him a run for his money.

Lucky comes into the diner on her search for Gizmo after he wandered away from her during the night. The both of them are struck with how attracted they are to each other but that doesn't stop Lucky from accusing Liam of stealing her dog!

When people find out that Lucky is new to McBride Mountain- they can't help but offer her a job, and of course Liam can't help but volunteer to watch Gizmo when she's at work. This causes Lucky and Liam to slowly develop a relationship where they share their demons with each other.

Can Liam convince her that life on the mountain with him is what she needs? Or will the fear of her past catching up with her run her off the mountain for good?

This book is filled with a grumpy lumberjack fighting about his past, a woman on the run from hers, an instant attraction neither can deny and danger from beyond the mountain that threatens everything.

I cannot wait to get Bigger Than the Mountain Sky and more of Connor!

Absolutely magnificent!!!
Beyond the Mountain Sky was completely addicting. Gwyn McNamee’s writing is truly something special—once you pick up one of her books, there’s no putting it down. The way she weaves her stories together, paired with her vivid, immersive descriptions, genuinely teleports you straight into the pages. I actually got chills while reading.
I can honestly say I haven’t read a single book or series of hers that I haven’t loved, but the McBride Brother Lumberjacks series may officially be my favorite—yes, even edging out The Hawke Family Series, and that’s saying something. Liam and Lucky absolutely stole my heart in this book. I already had a soft spot for Liam after his introduction in Beneath the Mountain Sky, but once Gizmo and Lucky entered the picture? It was over for me.
Quick side note: I adored the name Gizmo—instant flashbacks to my childhood Gremlins obsession—and Lucky’s nickname was just perfection. Another thing I loved (and seriously appreciate): virgin heroes. It’s such a refreshing, different, and incredibly hot trope that you don’t see often, and Gwyn McNamee does it so well. Many of the best virgin heroes I’ve read have come from her books, and I’m forever grateful for that.
If you’re looking for a story that will keep you glued to the pages, do yourself a favor and pick this one up—and the first book while you’re at it. You can thank me later. 😉

Beyond the Mountain Sky is book 2 of the McBride Brother Lumberjacks. All the McBride brothers are broody, hunky, larger than life men who take protecting their mountain and their town seriously. Liam was always the more happy go lucky of the three - always trying to get the others to see their own potential and probably everyone in town as well. The end of book one brought Liam to a hurdle that he can't seem to jump and our smiling, usually happy Liam is now gone and more broody than the rest put together. He's not sure what his future holds now and if he can ever seem himself in a different light. When Lucky (and Gizmo) cross his path, it seems he may have found a reason to live and stay in McBride Mountain, if only she'd see that they could be good together. Lucky has a past she is very obviously trying to run from and the last thing she wants to do is put anyone else in danger. It was a good story with plenty of steamy moments along with suspense and a fair amount of growing pains.

This series is checking all the boxes! I fell for Gizmo from the first mention on him. I am a sucker for dog in a book, but a French Bulldog is my bucket list dog! Then you add in Liam who is reeling from the plot twists from book 1. While Liam is having a bit of an identity crisis and inwardly fighting demons that he's not ready to share with his family he saves/finds Gizmo. Gizmo leads Liam to Lucky and things get really interesting. Lucky is clearly running from something/someone but as much as her instincts are telling her to keep moving, she wants to stay. I loved getting to know Liam and Lucky and I didn't want to put the book down. One thing about the McBride family is once they claim you then you're one of them and they will die before they let harm come to you. The set-up for the next book has me antsy because I know it might just be my favorite yet! Don't hesitate to start this series today.

I enjoyed Beyond the Mountain Sky. Both Liam and Lucky were good characters. After reading book 1, getting to know how Liam was dealing with everything that had happened and how it affected him was essential to seeing how he was processing it all and how much it had hurt him. It was really hard seeing how much pain he was in and him questioning himself. Lucky had been through a lot and didn’t trust because of it. However, the instant these two met you could feel both the chemistry and the connection. They both had this feeling with one another, this inherent trust from the beginning that only grew as the book went on. I loved seeing how much they healed each other just by being there. I loved seeing my favourite secondary characters and adored Gizmo! I do think the pacing was a bit off as it went quite slow and then all of a sudden it was really fast. I will be reading book 3.

So Happy I got an arc of this book because it was FANTASTIC! I love the McBrides and their Community. Liam is going through a rough time and carrying some serious guilt after what his father did in book one. Even though it’s not his fault, it still weighs heavily on him and he has nightmares. Meanwhile, Lucky is running from her past. Will it catch up to her? It’s exciting, thrilling and filled with action at the end. Liam and Lucky take a chance at love and it’s a wild ride. It’s also emotionally charged but also downright funny at times 😂 The townsfolk also show their support in any way they can which makes me fall in love with McBride Mountain. Of course, they both get their HEA eventually and I’m curious to find out what will happen next with Connor’s story 😉

This second book in the series was so, so good. The narrative is well written and the characters are flushed out nicely. It’s an angsty read with just the right amount of steam. I love the small town vibes. I also really liked that the MMC was a grumpy lumberjack, it really suited this character's persona. As far as the FMC, I really liked how well she was trying to cope and handle her situation. Overall, this is a well-rounded story with just the right amount of everything. I definitely recommend reading this it's that good.

Favorite line: "I may love this mountain. I may love my family. But if it came down to it, I would choose her every time."

I was over the moon that this was Liam’s book. His pain at the end of the first book was so palpable and I couldn’t wait to get his story.

Liam’s story was worth the wait because Lucky is his game changer and he finds in her a peace he hadn’t felt in a long time. Lucky has her own demons and yet the strength Lucky exudes helps to bring the same peace she gives him.

Gwyn did a beautiful job with this story. She created two characters who couldn’t have been a better fit. Their patience with each other, understanding and their big hearts had me hooked.

The steam was surprising and was some the best intimate moments in a book I have read.

McBride Mountain!!

Liam McBride feels like an outsider from the family that adopted him as a toddler.since the events that came to light in the last book he feels that he has bad blood.

Bluebell!

Lucky stumbles into to town after drifting for a year. The people of this small town seem too good to be true. On the run and alone except for her dog Gizmo. She doesn’t trust anyone.

“People don’t do things just because it’s the nice thing to do. They usually want something in return.”

Liam just won’t give up. This Lumberjack protector is all that and a bag of chips!!

Connor is next and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble comes his way.

The story of Liam and Lucky… and Giz
This story was surrounded by so much mystery and angst. I almost bit my nails to the quick waiting for Lucky’s story! As she was ready to tell Liam…. I had to wait again! OMG…. Talk about anxiety. It definitely had me hurrying to finish this book. I loved that Gywn kept this story closer to what I think is a more plausible ending. No nice boxes with bows on them. Lots of counting your blessings and being thankful for what/who was brought into your life. Gizmo of course played a part in the dominoes that started to fall and it was quite the game it turned into. You definitely need to read about these brothers!

The McBride Brothers series is amazing. Next up is Liam, who was dealt a rough hand in book 1. He's still coming to terms with the news, and feeling very alone with his feelings. When Gizmo and Lucky come crashing into his life, Liam can't help how he is drawn to this cute dog and his secretive owner. I loved the way he was so protective of Lucky, despite not knowing her story. At times, I wanted to knock some sense into this lost woman! But the McBride family is nothing if not welcoming. Their tight-knit community is awesome. I love the suspense, action, and the romance, and Liam and Lucky more than deserved their chance at happiness!

Wow, what a read. This book grabbed me from the get go and I could not stop reading. This book will grab you and take you away to another world in which you can lose yourself on McBride Mountain. The pace is perfect for the flow of the story and changes speed based on how the flow moves. These characters wow, you will love them and the McBride brothers, OMG. You will wish that you had your own McBride brother, they are so how. This book does not disappoint. It has to be read. Like now, no waiting for this one. Loved it.

Gwyn never fails to entertain.

Liam McBride is battling some demons and not successfully. When he finds a dog alone on his mountain, he takes it home. He's more than surprised to be confronted at the diner by Lucky who's the owner.

Fortuitous meeting? Fate? Lucky never sticks around for very long. She's constantly on the lookout and never relaxes. The town has a pull that she's not in a hurry to resist.

When trouble comes to town, Lucky has the town and McBride brothers in her corner.

Definitely an angsty book, chock full of emotions from both main characters. These McBride brothers protect their mountain and their family. Lucky takes a chance on Liam and its definitely a wild ride. The characters are well thought out with real life problems, not perfect characters. The story gets me down to the nitty gritty of their character and lives. A great read for sure. "Something more."

A wonderful addition to this series! Liam is struggling with finding out who his father really is and what may live deep inside him. Lucky is running from her past and trying not to get too close to anyone. When her past becomes a problem, Liam and the entire town is determined to protect her as one of their own. I really enjoyed their journey to happiness and finding out where they both belong. Looking forward to the next story. Love these lumberjacks!
