After my relationship breaks down, I agree to house-sit my brother Dexter's posh apartment whilst he’s out of the country. It will give me some much needed headspace.
Sitting on the balcony one sweltering summer's evening in the midst of a power cut, I'm given a secret window into the lives of the residents in the opposite building, and I see more than I should.
I'm drawn to a man in the penthouse and watch him closely and when a striking woman joins him on the balcony, I can’t tear my eyes away.
The following weekend a woman matching her exact description is reported missing. She’s not been seen since that fateful night. When I go to the police, the man in the penthouse has a cast-iron alibi and denies she was ever there.
I know what I saw and I can’t let it go. The deeper I dig, the more dangerous things become. Someone is watching me too. Just how much can I trust my neighbours?
Hi, I'm Keri Beevis, and I'm the author of the bestselling psychological suspense thrillers, Deep Dark Secrets, Dying To Tell, The Sleepover, and The Summer House.
Other titles I've written include Trust No One, Every Little Breath, The People Next Door, and The House in the Woods (previously released as The Boat House).
I am signed with Boldwood Books and my twelfth thriller, Nowhere To Hide is out 2nd April.
WOWZA! Keri Beevis has a killer book on her hands! I mean this book is so bloody good! The House Sitter is a gripping page turner which had my mouth hanging open in shock after one holy-crap-I-did-not-see-that-coming reveal!!! I was on the edge of my seat, patting myself on the back because I thought I had everything all figured out and the Keri Beevis left me speechless and in awe. I did not see that reveal coming at all!!! That is how you do it! Talk about being completely and utterly shocked and loving every second of it. I always get excited when I see Keri Beevis has a new book coming out and she delivered with The House Sitter!
Nina agreed to housesit for her brother after she ends her relationship. She looks forward to this time and staying in such a nice place. When the power goes out, she decides to sit on the balcony hoping for some cool air, as she looks across, she sees a man in a luxury penthouse and beautiful woman who joins him on his balcony. When Nina sees that the woman has been reported missing, she goes to the police, but the man in question has an iron clad alibi
Woohoo! This gripping book was so hard to put down. I love every single page. I loved the tension, the dread, the drama, the mystery surrounding the woman's disappearance, the unease, the suspense, and the characters. Just when I thought how clever I was for figuring everything in this book out, Keri Beevis threw in another twist that left me reeling. What a thrill ride of a book.
Wonderfully written, well thought out, shocking, thrilling, and hard to put down!
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Keri Beevis is absolutely one of my favorite authors and I’m always, always super excited to find out she’s coming out with a new book. So when I was invited to read her new ARC, THE HOUSE SITTER, I could not wait to start it. Her stories engage readers in wonderfully unexpected ways, which makes reading anything from her something to really look forward to–at least for me.
The synopsis sounded fantastic, giving me Hitchcockian REAR WINDOW vibes for sure. I could all but imagine Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly spying with binoculars right along with our protagonist, Nina. Haha!! And spying will inevitably end badly, because Nina admittedly sees something she shouldn't have, ultimately leading her down a dangerous road where she begins to question whom she can and cannot trust.
We are introduced to some colorful characters in the form of neighbors and acquaintances, some seemingly quite harmless, others less so, each appearing to harbor secrets that could be his/her undoing. But the fun is in the guesswork involved in determining who are the bad guys and who are the good guys as you, the reader, progress through the story.
The character development is so good, but I’d expect nothing less from Keri Beevis–she has the knack of creating protagonists and antagonists who are easy to love and hate, respectively, making it a foregone conclusion that you’ll be invested in the story from the very beginning to the final chapter. The twist at the end is wonderfully twisty I must say, and whether you see it coming or not, the journey to get there is an incredibly satisfying one.
I want to thank NetGalley, Keri Beevis, and Boldwood Books for gifting me the ARC of THE HOUSE SITTER! Reading this book before publication was a privilege. And I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!
This is one of those books that is so great, it’s frustrating that the synopsis is all I can delve into, lest I spoil the story for anyone! Nina has just rejected her boyfriend Michael’s marriage proposal, and, with perfect timing, her brother Dexter is heading to Hong Kong for a few weeks. She’s going to stay in his apartment and watch his cat while he’s gone, and try to find a place of her own.
Her first night at the apartment, there is a power outage, and she goes out to the balcony, which is only nominally cooler than the apartment broiling without air conditioning. She starts people watching, and notices a handsome man on the next block, also on his balcony. Shortly, a beautiful blonde woman joins him, and they proceed to have sex. Something about the exchange didn’t feel right to Nina, though…
Soon, it’s in the news that a woman named Peyton has gone missing. When she sees her face on television, Nina realizes that this was the woman on the man’s balcony, and that was probably the last time anyone saw her. She calls the police and tells them what she saw, but the man who lives there, Julian, has an alibi. His blonde coworker was there that night; Nina must be mistaken. Except, she knows she’s not.
The rest of the book is about finding Peyton, but it’s about SO MUCH MORE that I can’t discuss. There are some really interesting characters, like Leonard, an old man who also likes to people watch, and Zac, Dexter’s roommate who came back to town early and is now annoying Nina as he did when they were kids. Then there’s Julian, the wealthy and handsome man who was with Peyton that night. When he asks Nina out for a drink, she accepts - but only to find out more about him. Going back to his place to see if she can find evidence of Peyton being there was a good idea, until it wasn’t.
Nina’s snooping is putting herself in danger, but she can’t stop - luckily for the reader, as the suspense was strong throughout the whole book. This is one of the better thrillers I’ve read this year; I was shocked again and again! I didn’t have the time to read this all in one sitting, and I was itching to get back to it ASAP, as this was such an intriguing story that really pulled me in. 4.5 stars, rounded up.
(Thank you to Boldwood Books, Keri Beevis and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on May 22, 2025.)
THE HOUSE SITTER BY KERI BEEVIS Release date set for the 22nd of May 2025. The blurb on this book had me dying to read ASAP. Straight away it sucks you in and there's twists you don't see coming. Really enjoyed this one. My first time reading this author and it won't be the last.
A great read from keri Beevis. I've read a few of her books.she writes psychological books.Nina breaks up with her boyfriend. their relationship is going nowhere. she decides to stay at her brothers home while he is away, and after a power cut, she sits outside on the balcony and picks up her binoculars to spy on the neighbours... She knows she shouldn't be doing that, and what does she discover. A good read looking forward to reading more of her books. my rating is 3.5 rounded to 4...
Well Keri Beevis went for this with all guns blazing and what an amazing read she has given us
I mean any book that has a good character called Mark and a Ragdoll ( Hannibal ) would get my thumbs up but this dark, taut, exciting yet at times scary full on thriller had me Wowing throughout…..and all mainly set in a fabulous new apartment block where neighbours can spy on each other ( enter Leonard Pickles the resident nebby nose ) I love a book set in ‘housing’ that has neighbours involved with each otheras the main characters……whether they want to be or not…talking of which our main character Nina is there by default and thinks she is in for carefree ‘looking after her brothers best friends flat’ time but pretty soon that ballon is burst and then, well then she thinks she has seen a lady in the flat opposite being ‘entertained’ by the owner….and then finds out she is missing
Its a full on ride of action and story within a story and leads to the best ending
100% enjoyably immersive reading and would say my favourite from this author ( altho like them all )
Listening to this audiobook made me feel as if I was watching a show, but it was probably just the book, like I could picture everything that was happening and even imagine what the apartments looked like.
This book kept me hooked from start to finish. I enjoyed reading the story through the different characters' perspectives. I had my doubts about a few people lol. This was my first Keri Beevis book and I'm excited to read more of her stuff!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
I liked this one. Fast-paced, suspenseful, and bingeable. I like how the story unfolded through the eyes of multiple characters. Most of whom had something to hide. As a reader, this made me unsure who I could trust, making the ride even more thrilling.
I also enjoyed the bit of romance thrown in. It was well balanced with the story and didn't add unnecessary fluff. As the story progressed and more secrets were revealed, I found myself incapable of putting this one down. I did guess who the killer was early on, though. However, that's just the avid thriller reader in me. It certainly didn't make this book any less enjoyable.
I have always enjoyed Beevis' work. This one is no different. If you like fast, twisty, and suspenseful thrillers, with a hint of romance. This is the one for you.
Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Keri Beevis for my eARC of this book. All opinions are my own. Pub day: May 22nd, 2025.

Wow didn't see that coming... Great twist!!! Loved all the characters even the nosy ones :-) This was a superb book, well written that it makes you not want to stop reading.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.
Keri Beevis is one author I can count on for a doozy of a story every time. Once again she has come through with a twisty, suspenseful, trust noone thriller.
eh, I have nothing particularly good or bad to say. this was a book club pick and it was alright, extremely slow paced and somewhat predictable. took ages for me to finish for such a short book. it just didn’t hook me at all but writing was decent
I really enjoyed the last book I read by this author and did this one in audio format. I just could never keep the story or characters straight and really lost interest several times. BUT, I think this was a me issue to some degree. I’ll put it at 3 because I don’t think it was bad, just not for me.
After a breakup, Nina house-sits their brother Dexter's apartment. During a power outage, they witness suspicious activity in a neighboring building and become drawn into a mystery involving a missing woman. As they dig deeper into the case, they realize they are being watched as well. Nina must decide who to trust as she tries to uncover the truth.
I absolutely love Keri's work, and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to review this book. Buckle up, because we are in for a wild ride with multiple points of view and a plethora of intriguing characters to keep us on our toes!
In this captivating tale, we are introduced to Nina, Zac, Julian, Leonard, and Tabitha, each with their own unique perspective. The author skillfully crafted these characters, making them easily distinguishable and utterly engaging. Kerry's writing style is a delight, effortlessly juggling multiple characters with finesse.
The pace of the book is lightning-fast, though some parts may have been a tad lengthy and overly explained. However, these details were crucial in advancing the plot. The twists and turns in the story were expertly executed, with some revelations coming early on and others slowly unfolding. The unexpected ending left me reeling, especially with the surprising twist that caught me off guard. Just when you think you have it all figured out, Keri throws a curveball that will leave you speechless.
If you relish a suspenseful and unpredictable read that is impossible to put down, then this book is must-read. Trust me, just when you think you know what's coming next, Keri will prove you wrong in the most delightful way possible! Perfect summer read!
Thank you, Boldwood Books, for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book had plot twists on “WHAT just happened?!” Scenes on character development and then it gave me exactly what I wanted when I asked, and ended in a bang.
The cover for this book I LOVE. That and the blurb is what initially got me to pick this up, as I have never heard of this author before.
The reviews are right - this book is HARD to put down. It’s grappling, intense, and also gives you the details you want and need.
The beginning scenes had me in shock, spiked morbid curiosity, and overall just had me really intrigued.
I will look for this book in stores because I want to add it to my shelf!
Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for approving me request for this free eARC! I am leaving this honest feedback voluntarily.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Format: Audiobook Narrator(s): Shakira Shute
This was my first novel by Keri Beevis. The synopsis said it was for fans of Freida McFadden and Lisa Jewell, so based on that, I said “I’m in!”. It was a Good Read although it moved a little too slowly for me in the first half. It was a suspenseful missing person/murder mystery, which is a genre that I enjoy. The author, along with the narrator, was able to tell a good story. One thing that bothered me a little was towards the last 25% the author began to repeat a few things that had already been said. It had me wondering if I had already little to that part of the book. The ending didn’t really shock me. Overall, I would give it a 3/5 ⭐️
I absolutely love the books by Kerri Beevis, and this one is no exception.
Nina, who has been in a long-term relationship, decides to house-sit for her brother in his luxurious apartment. What could possibly go wrong? Well, let me tell you, a pair of binoculars and a scene that you just can’t look away from are what.
This cat-and-mouse story is filled with a bit of spice that will keep you reading and guessing until the very end. It’s a fairy-tale fast and easy read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Wow, what a story. Very tense, thrilling and a cracking ending which was completely unexpected. A quick read but, so difficult to put down. Another cracker from Kerry. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Loved this one! When Nina turns down proposal from her boyfriend, she decides to housesit for her brother, Dexter who will be out of town for a while. It's a beautiful penthouse apartment on the top floor and one night her curiosity kicks in and she uses the binoculars to spy on the penthouse on the street facing his. But what she sees is a man having sex with a woman on the balcony and later she goes missing. Determined to discover what's going on, Nina begins playing detective and what she uncovers will blow your mind! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
The house sitter by Carrie Beavis, after Nina breaks up with her boyfriend her brother lets her stay at his flat while he’s away on vacation. This is when she sees someone across the way having sex with a blonde woman only to learn a few days later the woman is missing. afterNina tries to involve the police and the man’s lifelong friend Tabatha, alibis him. This is when Nina starts making some risky decisions to try and solve it herself while this is happening, she seems to be falling for her brother‘s best friend and the actual owner of the flat she’s housesitting. The man she saw having sex with the blonde is named Julian his dad owns the apartment buildings and it seems he has a history of being attached to dead and or missing women but unfortunately Nina isn’t the only one watching his Cummings and goings and the other person has been doing it for much longer. this is definitely a five star read and although my review doesn’t reflect that trust me when I say the author has done it again and looks like this are the reason she is my favorite mystery/thriller riders. She always has a banger in store for the reader and when it comes to who done it I can never guess until it’s obvious in my face. Her writing is so brilliant and keeps you reading and the housesitter is no different it was interesting well done and Nina is someone so worth rooting for. Not to mention I absolutely loved Zack! #NetGalley, #BoldwoodBooks, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestreview, #KeriBeavis, #TheHouseSitter,
The House Sitter By: Keri Beevis Pub Date: May 22, 2025 Publisher: Boldwood Books Ltd
I have been a fan of Beevis’s books and as always she gives the reader a fun psychological thriller with twists.
This one involves a woman house sitting for her brother. He lives in a high rise, and when she gets bored she grabs binoculars and witnesses a steamy scene. She needs to look away, but she continues, hoping she does NOT get caught.
Soon she finds out the women on the balcony is missing. She knows who she was with, but will the man come forward? She decides to tell the police, BUT finds out he has an alibi. Her gut is telling her this man is involved with the disappearance.
She starts her own investigation, which is very dangerous! A cat and mouse thriller. She might not have been the only one watching neighbors that fateful night.
3.5 stars Plot twist. I did like it but the word choice made it 3.5 instead of a 4. A little raunchy which I also didn’t like. And I listened to it on audiobook and it seemed like the narrator emphasized some words and I didn’t think that was necessary. That’s nothing to do with the book but I didn’t like it.
