Nearly three months after the Venture, Qora tries to enjoy the wealth and privilege that comes with being the champion, but also struggles to come to terms with her new Raptoriva persona as she’s constantly forced to act as a public icon for Qhapaq Apo. With no word from Ninan since the homecoming ceremony, she yearns to do something more meaningful with her time.
Meanwhile, Ninan prepares to travel aboard the grand ship Velosaura with his fiancée, Princess Paqari, on a goodwill engagement tour of the Tisquvian isles, still secretly working to gather intel for his father’s rival, the qhapaq of Unu. As his wedding draws closer, he begins to think he might actually have to go through with it—unless he can find a way to take his father down first.
When Qora and Sakay get involved with the Razorclaws, a rebel group seeking answers about Qhapaq Apo’s suspicious, heavily guarded activities, they inadvertently reunite with Ninan, only to end up on the Velosaura tour when the princess demands that the champion and her “bodyguard” join her. Tensions will rise like the tide as time runs out to stop the wedding—and, more importantly—the impending war.
I couldn’t put this book down, it kept me gripped all the way through. If you were a massive fan of the TV show Dinotopia like I was then you will 100% love this series
This book was a bit slower than the first one. It didn't peak my interest until about page 300. At that point, I couldn't put it down. Excited for the next book!
I wasn’t sure how Rivera could improve upon Raptoriva but she did! I was fully prepared to not like Paqari (I know not very girls girl of me) but instead I ended up absolutely loving her! I felt like I couldn’t put the book down once I started it.
