About the author

Joy Darcy

1 book3 followers
Joy was born an only child, which meant she had no one to blame when the remote vanished, the glitter glue made its way into the carpet, or her mother's romance novels went missing.

She started stealing them at thirteen—first to read them, then to rewrite the endings, and eventually to create her own. She wrote her first "novel" in fifth grade. It was four pages long, emotionally devastating, and featured a suspicious number of horses.

Her writing has since evolved to include fewer equines and more emotionally constipated men with excellent jawlines.

When not writing, she’s reading someone else’s book, falling in love with fictional people, and pretending it totally counts as professional development.

~ Clearing my ARC Backlog ~

⋆。°✩ Spoiler Free Reviews ⋆。°✩

**As it turns out, I think this book was available on a Stuff Your Kindle Day, so it is NOT an ARC, but I counted it in my ARC stats so I’m leaving the top line there anyway**

This romcom novella had me audibly laughing several times and I love that!
Tropes featured are; scientist MC’s, Ice Queen FMC X Chaos Agent MMC, forced proximity, workplace romance, Ali Hazelwood STEM romance vibes.
Smut was 3/5 on the spice scale and its a HEA because its not a full length novel yet.

Natalie is our Ice Queen FMC and there is nothing I love more than watching the thaw. She had such depth when she let herself feel it, and her personality was relatable AF!

Aiden is our MMC and I couldn’t help but relate to his chaos. It spoke to my soul and a man who has been hurt so much and keeps going? That tenacity is hot as hell.

I'm not generally a fan of shorter romance, but this story was delightful. My favorite thing about it was that the characters were very different people but they respected each other and became open to an approach that emphasized each person's strengths, which resulted in a stronger project all around. The other thing I liked was that the hero was not intimidated by a very smart, very driven woman; on the contrary, it made her MORE attractive to him, body AND brain. These two dynamics played out in the intimate scenes as well, with neither 'dominant' but taking turns being the aggressor. And, of course, it's fun to see nerds fall in love (the first L-word declaration had me laughing).

It feels like a condensed version of an Ali Hazelwood book, and I’m here for it.

Even though it's less than 100 pages, there’s enough depth to the MCs that it’s easy to understand where they’re coming from. Their actions make sense because of who they are and what they experienced, including the miscommunication at one point (quickly resolved).

I'm a sucker for fun, snappy books with banter and fast-pacing, and this one definitely hit the spot.

The smut was also nice, but I think my favorite part was the presentation scene.

I really recommend you give it a chance, especially if you're a fan of academic settings in romance.

This STEM RomCom is about two Robotic engineers brought together to collaborate on a joint project. However, these two protagonists are total opposites - Dr Natalie Reed is precise, organised and loves compartmentalising whereas Dr Adrian Cooper is intuitive, messy and impulsive. They rub each other up the wrong way, often deliberately antagonizing the other until everything changes one night following a breakthrough in their research. They come to realise how well they actually work together as they complement one another by balancing their skill sets. They also have mutual admiration for each other - intellectually and physically.

Their chemistry was scorching and their scientific banter was hilarious and both characters were very endearing. There is one or two sexual scenes with some swearing.

The story was great and well written with very appealing characters. I wish this book had an epilogue as it would have completed the story perfectly. I so enjoyed this book and would definitely like to read more of this trope from this author. I rate this book 4.5*.

This was a pleasant surprise! Here’s an author who knows what she’s doing STEM-wise and writing-wise. I work in an academic environment and felt this was very well done.

The only thing that had me wondering was if Natalie would really let Aiden present alone, as she’s such an ambitious person? And as for the book‘s cover, I have no clue why it says A NOVEL, when this is clearly a (spicy) novella. But hey, I highly recommend it!

4.5 ⭐️, rounded to 5. What a little gem. Hard to believe this is a debut novel. Top-notch writing style, great pace and flow, amazing, smart banter. My only complaint: it was too short! Can't wait for the next full novel.

they start wanting to solve science problems for medical research and end up with chemistry between the two of them!

some really good sassy banter between some sciencey things that I did not understand, but I didn't need to to enjoy this short, spicy romcom.

This sweet novella is perfect for anyone looking for slow burn, workplace rivals to lovers, and STEM-oriented romance books! The characters are very well-written and likeable, with relatable flaws and misunderstandings. This is my first Joy Darcy book, but it won't be my last!

Such a quick, fun, fast-paced novella! The storytelling and writing is so reminiscent of Ali Hazelwood.

3.75 stars!

I really enjoyed this, and I WISH it was a full length novel!! (tbh I actually thought it was when i downloaded it) BUT I think if we had more time with the characters this would’ve been even better. It just jumped and moved a little too fast for me, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Def gives ali hazelwood vibes, so perfect to pick up if you need a quick stem romance fix !
