She insists on helping him hunt down the killer, not caring about the danger. Still guilt-ridden for not solving the murders of Lady Vivienne's parents, Zachariah feels obliged to let her assist him. But as Harlowe and Fitch dig deeper into the murder, the danger only worsens.

The protagonist's backstory set up a longer mystery to uncover but I am unlikely to read further installments because her actions, especially the decisions she makes in the last third of the story annoyed me deeply. Whenever a story veers off inexplicably into characters not talking to each other to goose the "drama" along I grit my teeth. This book does a lot of that.

This book was such a fun escape—light, clever, and full of charm. 🕰️🔍 The mystery kept me guessing without ever feeling heavy, and it left me excited to see where the series goes next. Book 2, here I come! 📚✨
