The Interpreters: South Africa’s New Nonfiction

Rate this book
From the underworld of zama-zama goldminers to the tragicomic closure of a Cape Town Zoo, from stick fighting to punk rock, game lodges to fruit farms, cricket pitches to mermaids, The Interpreters: South Africa’s New Nonfiction assembles a range of true stories that are often more far-fetched, and more compelling, than any fiction.

What an immense achievement! This could be viewed as a kind of textbook. These essays had me feeling every single emotion possible. 30 years into South Africa’s democracy these reflections are so vitally important. Especially for those of us born after 1994, who are left with the responsibility of envisioning a different South Africa.
