The Eye of the Fifth is truly exceptional high fantasy and I will be recommending this book to everyone and anyone. It is polished to perfection and the effort and attention Charlie has put into her debut is evident.

The world building is complex and detailed, the quality of it rivals the greats.

Kyra is a complex FMC. She is morally grey, she is flawed and she is also totally bad ass. It’s impossible not to love her and feel connected to her journey and her desires. I’m so excited to see her character growth as the series continues.

Gedion is also a flawed and complex MMC and I adore him. For both of them I absolutely love how Charlie allows them to make mistakes, and to be imperfect, you certainly don’t agree with every decision they make but you fully understand their motivations.

I do not want to give any spoilers in this review, but the Eye of the Fifth will take you on an epic rollercoaster ride of emotions which I warn you will leave scars.

This is one of those books that stays with you and honestly if I could rate it 6 stars I would. I will read anything this author writes from now on.

This was so good, everyone needs to read this immediately!

I love Kyra and Gedeon. The world building and magic systems were so good and interesting, I was hooked from the start. It’s been so long since I’ve had a fantasy book like this that I’ve loved and I need the next one asap!!

I've read ALOT of fantasy books and Eye of the Fifth is without a doubt the best book I've read in the past decade and the top three of all time. The way Charlie writes can only be described as poetic, her world building is astonishing and her character development is second to none. She had this ability to immerse you within her world and you find yourself happily drowning in a sea of stunning prose, bad ass characters and witty dialogue.
What more can I say? If you want a book like that, read Eye of the Fifth. If you don't? You don't deserve to read it.

I enjoyed this story and the multi POVs. I thought the characters were well written, the magic system was different and interesting, and the take of fated mates here was outside the norm. The ending stings a bit but I will endeavor to watch for updates on the next book!

I have not been able to stop reading this from the minute I picked it up. It has amazing characters and you just feel like they are part of you the more and more you read. I can not wait to continue reading the next book. For now I just need to sit and be with what I just read.

A must read indie fantasy. Five stars without hesitation.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eye of the Fifth by Charlie Fights completely blew me away. This is one of those indie fantasy debuts that genuinely deserves to become something big, and I do not say that lightly.

Set in a richly layered world on the brink of war, the story follows Kyra Daeiros, newly chosen as the Earth Warden, as she navigates her growing powers, a dangerous secret mission, and the weight of a prophecy that could change everything. What unfolds is an epic fantasy filled with elemental magic, political tension, religion, and multiple intertwining points of view, and it all comes together seamlessly.

One of the standout strengths of this book is the world building. It is expansive, immersive, and incredibly detailed without feeling unnecessarily heavy. The inclusion of religion, politics, and an elemental magic system adds real depth, making the world feel lived in and complex. I especially loved the diversity across the characters and perspectives, which made each point of view feel purposeful and added layers to the overall narrative.

The use of multiple perspectives can sometimes feel overwhelming, but here it is handled so well. Each character brings something unique, and instead of slowing the story down, it enhances the scale and emotional impact of what is happening.

The pacing is another major win for me. The story moves quickly, with very little filler, and I was constantly engaged. There is always something happening, whether it is action, character development, or plot progression.

The romance element, particularly the fated mates trope, was handled in a way that felt fresh and not overly cliché, which I really appreciated. I also have to mention the talking dragon, which instantly earned extra points from me. I am really hoping we see more of that in the next book.

One small challenge for me was getting my head around some of the fantasy terminology and place names early on. There is quite a lot introduced at the beginning, which can feel overwhelming at first. However, I later realised there is a glossary and pronunciation guide at the back, which would have been incredibly helpful had I known while reading on Kindle. Knowing that it is there definitely makes this less of an issue looking back.

A couple of things to note for other readers. This book has no spice, so if you are expecting a heavy romance focus, that is not what you will get here. There is some strong language used at times. Content warnings include themes of slavery and darker elements.

Overall, this is an incredibly impressive debut. It is imaginative, fast paced, emotionally engaging, and full of potential. If you are a fan of epic fantasy with rich world building, multiple points of view, and high stakes storytelling, especially if you enjoy series like Throne of Glass, this is absolutely one to pick up.

I genuinely believe Eye of the Fifth has the potential to grow into something huge, and I cannot wait to see where the series goes next.

A must read indie fantasy. Five stars without hesitation.

This book is hands down in my top 3 reads of the year. Charlie describes this as high epic fantasy with a romance sub plot (which will get me every time) but it's SO MUCH more than just that.

This book features troupes such, fated prophecies, god involvement, fates mates, self discovery journeys, redemption arcs, elemental magic, headstrong FMC, morally grey cinnamon roll men. There are so many well developed characters in this book that are on their own journeys within the storyline that feed into one another to create such an immersive reading experience.

The pacing of the book is brilliant and you are taken along it so well, the world building is detailed enough that it's not over kill but wraps you in so you feel right there with the characters.

The POVs blend so well with one another it makes you feel like you are tandem reading multiple books, by like 20% I had the same feeling I had reading the throne of glass series and I've not had that since reading the series.

The heartbreak I felt in this book was the same heartbreak I had from Liam in Fourth Wing, and the audible gasps had me messaging Charlie in real time with outrage.

There are moments in the book that makes you laugh, cry, gasp and make you not want to put the book down.

God tier, and thank you so much Charlie for letting me be apart of the world.

*book was gifted but this has no bearing on my review, this book seriously is a 10/10 and I need book 2 like yesterday.

I’m not usually one for writing reviews, however this book deserves it.
This debut novel was an absolutely stunningly written epic fantasy that had me shouting “noooo” out loud at the twists and devastated that it was over. It exceeded all expectations I had and I became completely immersed in the world Charlie has created (so much so I actually dreamt of scenes from this book which never usually happens!).
I was gripped from start to finish which made a really lovely change after a few recent reads that didn’t really grab me until halfway through, this had me wanting more from the very start.
The world building was very well done and I’m so excited for what will come in book 2, if I’m completely honest I’m actually equal parts excited and gutted about the fact I have to wait for the next book(s) and would have absolutely loved to devour the entire series one after the other haha, but, I will thoroughly enjoy re-reading this when the next one releases.
This series deserves to be BIG and I will gladly sing its praises from the rooftops and recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy.

Eye of the Fifth by Charlie Fights completely blew me away. From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the sharp writing, richly layered world-building, and a lead you can’t help but root for. This book effortlessly blends fantasy, action and mystery into a ‘can’t put down’ narrative that never lets up.

The plot twists were genuinely unpredictable, and just when I thought I had things figured out or knew what was coming next, Fights threw in another curveball that left me stunned and needing more!
The world she’s created is addictive, with just the right balance of action and emotional depth. The themes of identity, power, fate, are handled with perfection and originality. Every scene, every connection, every interaction feels real and like you’ve stepped effortlessly inside their world.

Charlie Fights is a name to watch, and Eye of the Fifth deserves a place on every bookshelf. If you’re looking for a story that challenges your imagination and keeps you thinking long after the final page, this is it. I can’t wait for the sequel!

As a big fan of Sarah J Maas, I was beyond excited to dive in to a whole new fantasy world with this book and Charlie does not disappoint! The writing holds your hand and slowly guides you through this new world, introducing you to new settings, characters and lore in a way that perfectly balances the line between keeping you interested, without overcomplicating things or becoming too overwhelming. I found myself very quickly becoming attached to the characters in the book and enjoyed watching their stories play out and overlap. The constant change of point of view was also very helpful in learning more about each character individually, and gave a fun insight into different developing relationships. The second half of the book in particular, once all the plot lines seemed to really start overlapping, I found to be super exciting and couldn’t help but want to keep reading on. For fantasy lovers, there really is something for everyone in this series and I can’t wait to see what Charlie has in store for book 2!

Ah I loved this! This is the first book from an indie author that I’ve ever read and hooo boy did I choose a good ‘un! Once I got settled into it, the reading was so buttery smooth and ‘easy’ (and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way; only that it just flowed so well). The world building felt completely natural; not clunky or shoe-horned in but just part of the story and the development of the characters. Kyra was obviously great and Gedeon a dream, but there were so many other distinctive characters as well who felt fully formed, with life breathed into them. I loved Kyra’s relationship with Rosary; I loved the casual queer inclusion regarding Naal and Win (here’s to books not making a big deal over a character’s queerness); Sekun is just a bad bastard so wonderfully written; and I loved Kawai (but alas boy got done dirty!). Empress Azar feels like a real threat; the power she has ripples through this and I’m genuinely invested in how they are going to defeat her. This was so enjoyable - highly highly recommend, and I can’t wait for book 2!

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. I went in not knowing what to expect, but I ended up not being able to put the book down.

I thought the world was easy to digest and understand. I liked the multiple POVs... minus one that gave me a lot of cringe, but for the most part they were all so interesting. I really liked how our MMC and FMC were introduced and trying to figure out how it was all going to come together.

Kyra was an interesting FMC, and I ended up rooting for her and liking being in her head. Gedeon was an awesome MMC and I ended up liking him a lot. Thought how he was introduced into the story was great. He had a REALLY good page presence and the banter between them was fun to read. I cannot wait to dive deeper into that relationship and hopefully see more from them and those delicious vulnerable moments.

I was conflicted a lot with the romance and the mission, I didn't know who to root for and who to like and want with who, so it kept me on my toes and I enjoyed that.

I thought the "spice" was done SO tastefully. Not being overly vulgar, and I enjoyed that a lot. More emotion based and sweet. Big plus from me.

Kyra picking at her skin around her fingers is SO me cause that is something I have done since I was a small child, so I felt seen!

A few things I didn't like is it came across a little preachy, telling us how to feel about the history, going on some tangents that were too long, and not showing us. Felt a little like it was trying to be edgy. Naal is the POV that I really didn't enjoy, she was very cringey and gave me the ick a lot haha. So that was the only POV that I didn't really enjoy reading, but the rest of the book made up for it.

Overall, this was a GREAT introduction into the world, I loved it and I couldn't put it down. The downfalls were easy to get around and not put a damper on the story for me cause everything else was done so well. I can't wait for more Gedeon and more story!

I adore fantasy, but I have to admit that I DNFed this book. I had high expectations because I was promised spice and a fun reading experience. Usually, I don’t review books I haven’t finished, but this one was such a big disappointment that I felt the need to say something.

At first, I thought the confusion was normal. During the first 50 pages I felt like I didn’t understand anything, but I told myself it probably just needed some time to build the world and that it would eventually start making sense. Unfortunately, it never did. Even after 170 pages, I was still completely lost and, honestly, incredibly bored. It became such a struggle to keep reading that I finally decided to stop.
In the end, I just felt that my time and my eyesight were far too precious to spend on something that felt like torture while hoping it might eventually get better.

I would give this book a million stars if I could! WOW!
Hands down, one of my favourite (and there's not many) books of 2025!
The world building, the characters, the emotions, the imagery....it has all been written PERFECTLY. I really took my time with this book because I just didn't want it to end....so glad it will be part of a trilogy 🙌🏼
I was fully absorbed and invested in Kyra's world. I felt bonds developing with the characters; I felt my heart being ripped out, stomped on and put back in. I literally felt ALL the emotions for Kyra's story 😭
Charlie has written an incredible book and is now firmly one of my top 3 favourite authors. She genuinely deserves all the success with this, and I can't wait to jump back into Kyra's world with the next installment 🥰

Magic, Dragons, Love and Intrigue, all set in a fantasy world! This is a terrific debut book from an exciting new author and beautifully sets the scene for what I think will be a great saga to follow. I loved that the author hasn't tried to rush the story, but has set sufficient time aside to provide proper character development so that you can actually invest in the storylines surrounding each individual.

The descriptions are great and the pacing feels just right. Magic is present, but not the focal point that sometimes dominates similar examples of this genre. At the heart, is some great story telling and I am looking forward to the next book to see how the story unfolds.

Highly recommended and will be following this series to its conclusion.

What a book!!!

A beautifully built world, so intricate and descriptive without being overly complex - written in such a way that I could easily picture the characters, the scenery, and each moment of warmth, heartbreak, joy, and despair.

From page one I was gripped by the story, rooting for Kyra - who is the epitome of a strong, quietly tortured, but relatable FMC. Her character arc throughout the book is beautifully written, and you easily find yourself backing her every thought, decision, and desperate choice - however reckless they might be.

The book had so many twists that I did not predict, and yet each reveal was so cleverly woven into the story.

Charlie Fights deserves 5 stars and more!!! Please add this book to your TBR, it is a decision you will not regret!

I'd heard so many good things about this book and they were all true.

Fantastic world building; a strong FMC who will stop at nothing for those she loves; an MMC torn between conflicting duties; found family; twists, turns betrayal and loss.

I'm sure this is one that I will read again.

I found the first few chapters took me longer than expected to read, there's a lot of detail in there and it took quite a bit of concerted focus to get the characters and locations straight in my head. That's partly why I know this will benefit from a re-read as I'm sure there were clues that I missed early on.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this and have already added Heart of the Fifth to my TBR. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚❤️

An absolute must read for fantasy lovers!!!

If I could give this book a 6 ⭐️, I would.

I have absolutely adored reading this book. Fantasy world building at its finest.

The characters are so beautifully written and so funny. Written with multiple POV, you connect with them so quickly.

It’s fast paced, so there’s no hanging about, you instantly get thrown into the FMC’s world, who is also foul mouthed, funny, strong, badass!

I belly laughed, shouted and cried my eyes out! The range of emotions you feel reading this book is mad!

I finished the book and I can’t get it out my head. A must for any fantasy lover.

Overall the story behind this had the potential to be very good, I was hooked on the first chapter.
But for me, everything happened too smoothly, the magic system is not explained properly, there was no depth in any of the characters - there was so much that could have been delved into to get you to emotionally connect to the characters but it was all skipped over. The same with the romantic connections, no development was just sort of explained and happened, you’re not drawn onto it.
It was just lacking in so many areas that could have made this excellent. Stopped reading at 71%

Charlie has taken time and care with this book and honestly you can tell.
The pacing is absolutely spot on, at no point does it drag and at no point does it go too fast. I'm left eleated and devastated in the best possible way.
I can't wait for the next book.

2026 starting off strong!

Im a mood and vibe reader and this was giving kindreds curse and book of Azriel vibes.

The world building and magic system were nice and easy to get into.

Lovable side characters. Strong MCs.

The plot/sub plots tied together very neatly at the end, ready for the next instalment. It made it clear the story was just beginning without leaving readers on a cliffhanger.

A perfect introduction to a series. I really hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next one.

I have been TRAWLING the fantasy/romantasy genre since ACOTAR and ToG, nothing comes close. This. This is good.

I love dragons so this was already a hit for me. The way it’s teased that they’re mates so you KNOW (or maybe I just read too much fantasy) but it’s not just slap you in the face obvious.

I love the characters, I love the world. The plot and concept is very original. The fmc is badass, the mmc yearns but in a hot way. My only issue is that the next one isn’t out yet!!!!

Seriously amazing debut fantasy novel. The multiple POV was done so beautifully and kept me turning the pages well into the middle of the night. I love finding new indie authors on KU that make me excited to see what stories they create.

This book was full of flawed hero’s and multidimensional villains. One of the reveals towards the end of the book was easy to guess but the moment was so heartbreaking. I can not wait for book two!

Wow! Just wow! Why have I waited so long to start with this one? I absolutely loved this story! Strong, but flawed, characters, interesting magic systems and world building (while still being easy to understand), several points of view keeping the story interesting and well flowing, fast paced, found family and impeccable banter. So happy I finally decided to read this! If you have seen this book around and been thinking of reading it, do it! 🙌

Brilliant read. Had just finished the Halfling Saga and was so disappointed and just downloaded Eye of the Fifth on a whim after seeing a review on Booktok. Was I so glad!
Loved the plot , loved the characters and loved the world building. This book grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the last page. I found it very difficult to put down and simply lost myself for two days. What an amazing debut and cannot wait for book two.
