Adrenalin #2

Privileged

Rate this book
I'm one bad decision away from losing everything.

Carter - I’m used to pressure. Used to privilege. What I’m not used to? Having the fate of an entire town resting on my shoulders, and my long dormant libido smacking me in the face mid-back rub.

That’s what happened on Monday morning, when my assistant sent in a masseuse—and in walked Sloan. With strong hands, soft eyes, and a very firm directive for me to undress... Let’s just say it relieved the tension, though not in the way I was expecting.

It should have been a one-time thing. A tension-reliever. A professional service.

Instead, it’s my undoing.

Because Sloan isn’t just anyone. He’s an employee. The one person I should never touch—especially with my father on the board that decides whether I sink or save the ski resort that keeps this small town alive.

And yet, every time I look at Sloan, every rule I’ve lived by starts to unravel.

I can fix the resort. I can fix my relationship with my father. But can I do it without destroying the one man who makes me feel like I’ve finally found home?

This spicy small-town MM romance features a workaholic, a do-gooder, costumes with way too much latex, and a drinking game you’ll have to try for yourself.

Author's Note: Privileged is written as book two in the Adrenalin series, although it can be read as a standalone. This slow-burn, workplace romance with adult themes and humor will have you dreaming of the mountains, craving small-town charm, and wishing you had a reason besides Halloween to wear a costume. HEA guaranteed.

“My point is you’re both attractive people who in all likelihood haven’t been with anyone in a long time, and one of you is naked while the other rubbing oil on him. It’s the perfect scenario to make the professional boundary blur.”

— And the perfect scenario for a romance.
Part-time masseuse, Sloan helps the new elusive CEO of the resort relax…maybe too relaxed. —

A fun start to this sweet small town romance, but the rest of it was underwhelming, to be honest. Seems this fluffy series isn’t right for me, because while I adore Michele Lenard’s hockey series and college romances, both Worthy and Privileged aren’t really giving me any special feels.
It’s cute, it’s sexy. That’s about it.

I mean, there’s no world where the super sexy millionaire has an interest in the help. That’s a Hallmark movie, not reality.

That is exactly how this series feels. Like a Hallmark movie. Lots of fluff and good stuff, but not much else.
I really enjoy the found family vibes and the small town charm, though, so watch me pick up the next one anyway.

“I’ve been breaking every rule with you since day one.”

Carter is the CEO of the entire ski resort in a small town and where Sloan works as a masseuse.

‘I’m holding down two jobs and crashing at my sister’s to save up for that place of my own, and while I’ve made some friends, most of the time I’m too busy working to see them.’

Carter …really enjoys his massage 😂

Carter calls Sloan back for another massage and again enjoys it very much to both their shock and horror.

‘My cock lurches as if it’s trying to leap into his fingers, which he abruptly pulls back. “Yeah,” I exhale heavily, shaking my head. “Not gonna go away as long as you keep pointing at it.”

Sloan finds out his co-worker gives happy ending massages and enjoys sexy times with clients.

Another massage with Carter, another erection. Carter’s starting to wish Sloan wasn’t his employee so they could explore this attraction. Sloan also wishes he was the type of guy who could act on impulses.

‘I’m both flattered and dismayed to see the sheet draped over his impressive erection. The idea that my touch can bring a man to this state of arousal is sort of intoxicating. It makes me feel almost powerful, like a vixen, which I’ve never experienced before.’

Next massage Carter decides to go for it.

“Let’s stop ignoring the obvious. You have an effect on me I clearly enjoy.” Sloan’s gaze follows mine as I glance down at my lap, where my balls still vibrate with the memory of his finger brushing against them. “Is it fair to say you enjoy it too?”

Finally they kiss. Then Sloan is at Carters Penthouse and it’s on. They have the sexy times.

Lots of sexy times.

Carter tells Sloan he’s in love and Sloan feels the same.

Carters Dad basically says it’s Sloan or the resort. Sloan says to choose the resort.

“This isn’t about your career, Sloan, it’s about us. About staying together without either of us jeopardizing the goals we’ve been working so hard on. For once will you swallow your pride and let me take care of it?”

Sloan decides he must be the martyr. The resort and town must come first. So he leaves Carter and breaks his heart. Oh my lord. Seriously 😑

Then Carters dad is all like oh wait, you love him, well that changes things.

“I’m saying, for the right person, the rewards can outweigh the risks. Sounds to me like this Sloan could fall into that category. I wish you would have told me how you felt about him.”

SERIOUSLY???

Well first an unnecessary breakup breaking both their hearts and it was pointless but they end up back together.

Privileged is the second book in the Adrenalin series and while it can be read as a standalone, with how small town romances are and especially with how tight knit people are in this story it's better to read them in order. I enjoyed this a lot without reading Worthy, and I could follow along perfectly fine, it would just have made it better to have read it befoee this.

Carter is the elusive new owner/CEO of the resort who has been hiding away from the town while trying to figure out how to take rhe resort to the next level. Sloan works at the resort spa as a masseuse while he waits to get into his dream job. They meet when Carter's secretary calls in Sloan for a massage. I loved their instant attraction and it was fun seeing how long they could deny it for. I loved how Sloan helped Carter open up to the idea of trying to work together with his team to brainstorm ideas for the resort and to not be so reclusive. Sloan is very independent and adamant on making it on his own with no help, while Carter is okay with favors to move his life ahead, that is just how his life has worked courtesy of his dad.
I really love what they bring out in each other and how they are as a couple. Both were willing to sacrifice a lot, Carter would have sacrificed his job for Sloan, while Sloan would have sacrificed his job and relationship, only for Carter to be able to pursue his plans of expantion for the resort.
I really enjoyed how their relationship progressed. I also really enjoyed the small town feel, and all the things going on, how everyone knew everything.
This was a fun read, with a bit of conflict, and a lot of sweet and swoony moments.

I really adored both of these characters. Carter is misunderstood by the town so he stays away working in his office trying to save said town’s main attraction, the ski resort he now owns. Seeing him open up to Sloan and not feel so lonely anymore was so nice to see. He fell so hard for him and would do anything to keep him.

Sloan is such a sweet, caring, loyal, hard working, compassionate, and selfless man. He never took any hand outs, was always there for people and even sacrificed his own happiness for the town. That break up scene broke me as much it broke them. You could understand both sides and empathise with their feelings.

This is a great small town read where the two fall hard and fast for each other, while keeping their relationship a secret from the town.

Sloan moved to the small mountain town of Katah Vista to one day open his own practice and live his dream. in the meantime, he works and saves to the point he has no life until Carter changes it all. Carter, having always loved visiting Katah Vista, once retired, decides to try his own path from family obligations and rebuild the resort to what it should always have been. Too bad in his hopes of helping the town, he gets to buried in his work to not build the connections needed in a resort town to strive until Sloan. Sloan and Carter together solve the resort issues and build their love to be able to handle what may come their way.
It was great to see Maddox and Cade have their dream wedding. It was great to get to see more of the towns residents and learn more from this universe, making you want more. Michele does a beautiful job in keeping you entertained throughout while keeping you in the story throughout.

Carter and Sloan's story takes us up the mountain. The attraction is immediate. Carter has more concerns than he knows what to do with and Sloan is a catalyst to the stress. They have to be careful, they will each be willing to make sacrifices. It's a really good story with great characters who are a perfect match. The secondary characters, whom we have met in the previous book that all work to make this story great. I loved it! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

What happens when a massage leads to more than just a happy ending?
Turns out, quite a bit.

Privileged is a sweet, low-angst small-town romance set at a ski resort, and I absolutely loved it. Carter, the mysterious and reclusive CEO trying to revive the town’s beloved resort, meets Sloan, the hardworking and selfless masseuse/physical therapist/server (because small town life = many hats), and from the moment they meet—sparks.

The chemistry between these two? Immediate. But what really hooked me was the emotional growth on both sides. Sloan pushes Carter to step out of isolation and reconnect with the people around him, while Carter helps Sloan see that sometimes it's okay to accept help, especially when your whole heart’s on the line.

Their relationship builds slowly, filled with tension, secret glances, and lots of swoony moments. I loved how they tried to respect boundaries, knowing a boss/employee dynamic isn’t easy, but sometimes love doesn’t follow the rules.

Also, the breakup scene? It hurt—but in that perfect romance novel way where you get both sides and just want them to find their way back to each other.

This had:

- Small town charm
- Boss x employee
- Ski resort vibes
- Secret hookups
- A workaholic recluse falling hard for the town’s golden boy

Even without reading book one (Worthy), I had no trouble following along—but I can see how starting with the first would only make this richer. Plus, getting to know more of the town (and seeing who’s up next Lennon and the motocross rider? Yes please!) adds that cosy, connected feeling that makes small-town romance so satisfying.

If you're looking for a feel-good romance with heart, heat, and two men who bring out the best in each other, Privileged is a great pick.

*minor spoilers*

Oh Carter *sigh* I just want to give him a hug. His younger years as a pro skier had many positives, but it also left him at a disadvantage at people-ing. Add that he’s spent a year by himself, giving his all into figuring out how to save the ski resort, and by extension the town, well … it means that he doesn’t have the best reputation with the locals. And that he’s carrying all sorts of stress on his own. Until he meets Sloan.

I like Sloan. He’s a stand-up guy, hardworking and big hearted. He’s compassionate, giving, & loyal and just what Carter needs. He’s able to help Carter set down some of his burden, ask for help where he needs it, and open up to others. Together they are just the sweetest and I couldn’t get enough of them together.

For me, third act breakups can be an obvious choice but Lenard’s work. This one just about broke my heart but I appreciate where they were both coming from and why things went the way they did. And I really like how it all gets resolved.

I am really enjoying Lenard’s books. She delivers relatable characters, interesting story lines, and a good mix of heat & heart. Her Adrenalin series so far has been feel good, lower angst, and charming. It’s got a lovely found family, small town charm and satisfying HEAs.

With half an hour left until the end of work, Sloan starts to pack things away in the Spa where he works. He gets a phone call from the CEO’s assistant asking him to go to his office for a massage.

Carter Quinn has taken over as CEO at Katah Vista Ski resort. He is hoping he can turn the resort around to make it an all year round place to visit. He needs to make a success of it, to prove to his father he is worthy. This adds to the stress he feels, and needs a massage to relive his sore muscles. Sloan provides the relief he needs, but Sloan has an effect on Carter, which he finds amusing but Sloan is embarrassed. Naturally Carter has Sloan back for more massages.
He keeps inviting Sloan back, with the premise of getting to know him better, but actually falls hard and fast.

Carter keeps himself closed off from the resort and its residents, but with Sloan’s help he starts to integrate more with them. He, in turn gets some amazing ideas as how to profit the resort.
As Sloan and Carter have crossed a line, being employee and employer, can they gain approval from Carters father and the board he has to answer to?

This is the second book in Michele Lenard’s Adrenaline series.
I love the setting of the small town of Katah Vista, it seems like a lovely place, with people who care about each other. The writing is descriptive and flows well.
I am looking forward to Lennon’s story.

*I received an free copy of this book from GRR and the author. This review is my honest onion of the book*

Tropes:-

⛷️Small town
⛷️Boss X employee
⛷️Ski resort owner X masseuse
⛷️Secret hook ups

like the first book in the series, this is a sweet, sexy romcom set in a small town with deffo hallmark movies vibes about it. Like the first book, there was little angst to the story though there in some conflict and it was pretty feel good. Carter is busy working trying to save the Ski resort that he has just bought such has resulted in him ending up quite isolated from the town. Through his growing relationship with Sloan, who was super caring and loyal, you could see Carter start to open up and on turn not be quite so lonely/isolated.

It was fun to see how they worked together to save the resort. In that regard, Sloan is exactly what Carter needs as he helps him ask for help when needed and to open up. Sloan himself is extremely hardworking and caring and really deserved the HEA he got on the book.

I enjoyed the cameos from the first book, especially seeing Cade and Maddox and getting to see more of the town and the people that live in it.

My only issue was the use of the 3rd act breakup but I can see where the characters were coming from and I did enjoy how it was resolved.

No one can get a read on the mysterious new owner of the ski resort. Carter keeps to himself and in doing so, everyone in town has formed some sort of negative opinion about him. But when Sloan’s job as a masseuse at the resort leads to his boss, Carter, being his client, he realizes there is a lot more to Carter than anyone realizes. That and the fact that there is a very strong attraction between them. But Sloan won’t break the rules and risk his job and reputation if he crosses the line. And even Carter knows that dating employee is asking for trouble. But the more they get to the know one another, the stronger their feelings are until eventually they find them crossing the line they would never risk. But for each other? For the chance that this pull between them is more than just attraction? Well, it may just be a risk they are willing to take. I loved how these two were very aware of their professional boundaries but gave themselves a chance to explore their connection. They took a risk for love and it was worth it in the end. There are still plenty of obstacles as they navigate this new relationship between them, but they definitely deserve their happy ending!

Second book in the Adrenaline series, and I was waiting to read Sloan’s story, which did not disappoint me… and I knew it would have been this way.
I already loved this man from the little glimpse the author gave us in the first book, even though it wasn’t a lot. And here, he finally finds his perfect match in Carter, who after retiring from his career in winter sports decides to buy the only resort in Katah Vista, the small town where everything happens.
Both men are workaholic, and it is while they’re working that they meet each other. Actually, Carter is Sloan’s boss, something that makes it difficult for their relationship to take off at first, but love always wins, so they manage to find their HEA together.
I loved the main characters, and it was really nice to see the others from the previous book too, and go back to the beautiful place where the story is set.
If you love the small town, and boss-employee tropes, I can only recommend this book. I’m ready for the third chapter now!

Cute low angst read. Even the 3rd act was low angst and didn't last too long which was nice.

These two had an automatic pull to each other but didn't give in for a little while since Sloan worked for Carter in a sense. I will say that I found their massage sessions a bit funny that both were so awkward when everything happened.

I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. They took it the speed that they both needed and they ensured that neither one would compromise for their dreams.

I really enjoyed seeing Maddox and Cade and the rest of all the town folk from the first book.

If you like small town romances where the main characters are total opposite but have off the chart chemistry, this book is for you. I love a plot where the two main characters come from different backgrounds (in this case socioeconomic). Carter is working hard to save the town ski resort and feels the stress from the town to do this to in essence save the town. Sloan is simply a hard working man with heart of gold. Of course drama is Sloan is an employee and they cannot cross the line, but the heart does not seem to honor that line. While you do have to read book one to love this book, doing too will make this one better as we catch up with main characters from first book. Grab your favorite beverage and enjoy. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

A sweet, small town romance with Hallmark movie vibes.

This book is in the same vein as Worthy, the first book in the series. Both MCs are likable and strong, but lonely and struggling in their own ways. They were very sweet together. There is a forbidden aspect to the relationship as Carter is the new CEO of the ski resort and Sloan is a masseuse that works there. Carter is misunderstood and kind of a recluse, but he cares about the town and is trying to save the ski resort that is so important to the local economy. Sloan is pretty self-sacrificing and one of the town's sweethearts.

I thought it was fairly low angst. The third act break up was emotional and the HEA was sweet.

I enjoyed the business aspect of this story so much. Carter has some real daddy issues and that's making him an ineffective leader as he's determined to do everything on his own with little to no input from his team and no effort to get to know the people in the ski resort and town it's based in. It's pretty clear he will fail to successfully develop the business if he continues on his path. All the stress causes his assistant to order a massage for him and the masseuse who turns up, Sloan, has the people skills Carter lacks and their attraction allows Carter to slowly begin to listen to him. I really enjoyed this couple and their story.

This was a slow burn, opposites attract story of Carter who is an ex skier trying to run and safe a resort where he trained where he was younger, and Sloan who is a physical therapist but does massages while waiting for his dream job. Both men hit it off and feel attraction from the word go but due to a big difference in their jobs, it’s not right for the boss to date his employee. However they start to see each other in secret and then chaos occurs when they are found out putting Sloan in position where he quits his job. But where there is a will, there is a way and love conquers all. Both men are able to work things about and get the happy ending they wanted.

This is the second book in Michele Lenard’s Adrenalin series, and although I read the first, you don’t need to in order to enjoy the second.

Michele keeps you engaged with the perfect mix of small-town charm, low-angst forbidden romance, and just the right amount of spice—with the HEA I always hope for. It was great how the characters respected their professional boundaries but still took a chance on love. Their journey had its challenges, but their happy ending felt well earned. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
I really liked this couple. They have a genuine connection and some excellent steam, both spicy and intimate. It’s well done, Sloan and Carter were lovely together, a really great team. I knew there was a third act break up coming, it wasn’t surprising but I still hated it. These two should and could have avoided that, so that was a disappointment. Still loved the couple, I enjoyed their happy ending but the break up was definitely a bummer.

Carter and Sloan ❤️

This was a sweet story with the small town feel just like in the first book. It had lots of spice, sweetness and humor but tbh Sloan's obliviousness drove me nuts, he's not what I had expected after he was introduced in the series. I liked these two together but I always have a hard time with reviews when one of the characters comes off like that to me. I will continue with the series because I really do like the plot and hometown feel of it.

Narrative: 📕📘📗📓
Angst: Low
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Humor: 😆😆😆
Heart: 💧💧💧💧
Romance: ❤️❤️❤️
Burn Time: Moderate

I read the first book in preparation to read this one, not required but all-in-all it was a great intro to the location and background characters for this book.

This book has a low angsty burn throughout most of it with a boss-employee relationship and it floats to a finish in the sweetest way.

I absolutely love this trope with men from two different financial statuses in life balancing each other out. Carter and Sloan did this in spades. These two were somehow extra adorable together while having a very hot chemistry. I had respect for them as they navigated through a relationship that in the real world would unfortunately not be accepted or understood by some of the people surrounding them.

Well, I'm truly loving this series - small town, group of friends/found family and a bike ride that seems to bring it all together !!! Enjoyed the pairing of Sloan and Carter....they both have principles but seeing and learning to look through the others' eyes brings another perspective. Love the setting and the characters.....this is a very sweet and romantic story....low angst but there is a bit of high-handedness (hence...privileged....)....looking forward to next in series....

I didn’t like this one very much at all. These fourth act breakups are ridiculous! They are literally back together 5 pages later! There is absolutely no point! It ruins the book tbh!

Another thing that bothered me was that sometimes Sloan was spelled Sloane and other times it was Sloan. It should have been consistent throughout.
