The Seven Dukes of Sin are up to their old tricks. This one involves a house party, a forbidden bet, and a sizzling slow burn between a naughty Duke and his best friend's sister.
I liked Lucien and Chastity quite a bit! Their journey is of friends to lovers but they become slightly rivals at a house party being held by the Duke of Pryde. They are both determined to win and they put a lot on the line.
I loved watching Chastity blossom and challenge Lucien. It's rare to read HR's with Friends to Lovers, as it's not the most popular trope to use. But this was done really well.
This was a very slow burn, so be prepared for that. But when we get into the nitty gritty, this was truly moving. I even teared up at the end of this one. So sweet!
Narrated by Shane East and Justine Eyre. They were just wonderful!
4 stars 2 on the spice scale

Seductive as a deadly sin, Lucien Wrenn, the Duke of Luhst, can tempt any lady into his bed. But his best friend’s little sister, bluestocking scientist Lady Chasity Perrin is forbidden fruit. Chastity has always loved Lucien & she’s content with her lot as a spinster, she fights to advance her medical research in a world that denies women's place in science. They can never be together until they clash in a heated argument and make a scandalous wager - During a month-long house party, both must do the impossible: sinful Lucien must remain celibate and wallflower Chastity must secure a marriage proposal. The second book in the series & yes it could be read on its own but the seven Dukes of Sin are close friends so their lives & stories are intertwined. I loved both Lucien & Chasity, childhood friends & he’s her brother Dorian’s best friend but he’s promised Dorian he will keep away from Chasity. Both Lucien & Chasity didn’t have the best of childhoods as their parents weren’t loving & both have self esteem issues. I loved their journey to a HEA, Chasity’s makeover was a revelation & then there’s a blackmailer who seems to know all of the Dukes’ secrets & these are gradually being revealed. A very well written engrossing romance which made me laugh & made me shed a tear. I look forward to the rest of the series I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
Mariah Stone - Duke of Luhst // Thank you Grey’s Promotions for the ARC!
Chastity wants to make a breakthrough in the medicine world with her research about hygiene. Unfortunately no one takes a woman serious in the 1800s and one of the most reputable doctors think of her as a fool. One day Chastity strikes a deal with her brother’s best friend Lucian. He bets that she can’t get the doctor to propose to her within a thirty day party, while she bets the lustful duke can’t stay celibate for the party’s duration. While Lucian helps Chastity connect with her more feminine side feelings arise. Will they break their bet and give into temptation?
Duke of Luhst is the second book in a interconnected historical romance series. I haven’t read the first book, Duke of Rath, but didn’t feel like I had to either. The novel ends with a cliffhanger that kicks off the story in book 3, but I say you can read it as a standalone.
I liked the book from start. It opens with Chastity helping out at a hospital in Whitechapel and shows her intelligence and compassion. As a lady her medical interest and research is frown upon, but she doesn’t care. Its delightful to have a heroine who dares to be herself.
From scratch we also learn that Chastity is infatuated with Lucian and I can’t lie, brother’s best friend is one of my top tier tropes. Especially when said best friend has vowed to stay away from the sister and protect her as family. I thought their chemistry was sparkling. They had good banter and a solid childhood friendship that made their attraction more believable. What I liked the most was their understanding of each other. Chastity knew Lucian was a rake. She knew he bed a new woman every night, but loved him nonetheless.
I found the concept of seven dukes based on the seven deadly sins fascinating, but also a bit confusing. They all had names inspired by their sin and their partners were the antidote. However I didn’t grasp why the seven were so protective of Chastity. I think it might’ve been explained in the first book, but I’m not sure.
What I didn’t like all that much was Chastity’s change. She changed her clothes, started flirting and refrained from telling about herself, only acting impressed by whatever suitors said. Suddenly every male gazed at her with fondness. A woman can be both brain and beauty, which Lucian constantly told her, but no one else seemed to understand.
I enjoyed reading the story and liked the suspenseful ending. I’ve already bought book 1 and I’m looking forward to that and book 3.
Mariah Stone writes heart wrenching anguish like no other. This series centering around 7 deadly sins, each represented in a scarred and wounded Lord, embodies the picture of anguish. Luhst has sheltered his heart with sin and seduction, preventing anyone from getting close enough to wound. Except without his understanding, Chastity was always sheltered within. When his eyes finally open to this fact he handles it badly, and the damage he causes is pure anguish. My heart broke for both of them. Seeing such wounded souls find their Happy ever after is such a heart lifting experience. For two people who grew up with little love, they embrace their love and create the loving family that they lacked. I loved that Chastity never backed down from Lucien or her brother but boldly stood up for her own desires, never give up on the love she had always had. A beautiful story of finding one’s potential and becoming one’s best self. The transformation of the Duke of Luhst into the Duke of Love & Devotion proves even the most lost souls can be found.
Audio notes: Justine Eyre, the Queen of Histrom, has a tone that transports you seamlessly into another time. And Shane East - what can I say? There is a reason he reigns at the top of my narrator list. He manages to embody the emotion he reads, tapping into an intensity that you can feel to your core. When he screamed Dorian’s rage, I quivered.
I feel as though I must be in the twilight zone… I cannot believe all of the four and five star reviews… This book was stupid, boring, infuriating… Chastity and Lucien grew up together… Lucien and Chastity‘s brother were best friends… They both had terrible childhoods with terrible parents— Lucien had sex with every woman in London as his way of hiding behind his feeling of worthlessness… Chastity wore boring clothes and glasses to hide behind her feelings that a woman’s beauty means nothing but intellect was more important— supposedly these two shared many years together as friends, but we don’t really see any of that— Chastity has been in love with him forever —they make a bet while they are staying at a house party for 30 days— Chasity is awkward and cold and cringy-all Lucien thinks about is sex- Chastity blushed every 5 minutes- I think this went on for 45% of the book- they get stranded at an old cottage for a few hours during a rain storm, and Lucien finally touches her-Lucien knows he’s worthless and not good enough for Chastity, so he fights the attraction —then to add to the misery of this book, a woman shows up at the house party with a little girl who looks just like Lucien, stating he is the father and the mom died in childbirth- that was 80% in- still no steam, and Lucien still fighting his feelings of worthlessness- it took me four days to finish this book-
• Best Friend's younger sister • It's always been you • Sweet nickname • Rake reputation • Angst/mutual pinning • Protective MMC • Brilliant FMC • Slow burn
This author is new to me! And I couldn't be more thrilled I found her books! Because if they're anything like this one I'm a fan for life! It was written much differently than I was used to, but I'm a sucker for historical romances!
Mariah gave us a delicious slow burn full of amazing angst and it's always been you! At first, I wasn't sure about the MMC, Lucien, and I wasn't sure how Mariah was going to get me to fall in love with him as I had fallen for the FMC. But man, this beautiful man, made one heck of a personality flip in the absolute best way! So so swoony! And watching him fall in love with his baby girl couldn't have been more perfect for his protective character! I just adored it. And adored the way Mariah took this book! And especially loved the FMC she was adorable!
I already have the first book purchased on Audible and I can't wait to listen to it!
Duke of Lhust Book 2 in the SEVEN DUKES OF SIN series. This is a Regency Romance, with a slow burn romance, which is mainly kept a secret.
I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
The main characters comprise of Lady Chastity Perrin, who is a Bluestocking, and dresses in dowdy clothes, in order to pass herself off as unmariagable in the eyes of the ton. This was due to the harsh upbringing both she and her brother Dorian, as well as their friend Lucien endured. Lucien is something of a Rake, but is very fond of Chastity, and helps her to turn her life around at a House Party over the course of a month. Chastity is courted by a handful of gentlemen at the party, but desires only one…
This is Lucien the Duke of Luhst well written and developed characters and storyline! And Mariah Stone definitely did not disappoint. Lady Chastity is the Duke of Rath’s sister and she has decided to live her life in helping the medical professionals use her knowledge of the medical field. Dorian her brother are best friends with the other sinful Dukes but Dorian and Lucien grew up together. They shared their dysfunctional family. Chastity and Lucien have always loved each other throughout the years but it took a month at the Duke of Pryde’s estate for their love to bloom! Such a beautiful and intense story! I absolutely loved the Duke of Luhst story, he has had such a terrible childhood and Dorian and Chastity were always there for him and each other. I loved the attention to details and the emotional roller coaster and the interesting secondary characters. This book lived up to its name. And the epilogue was priceless, such a perfect ending for Lucien and Chast
Lucien a.k.a. Duke of Luhst has always had a thing for his best friend's little sister, Chastity. She's a brilliant scientist trying to find a way to advance her medical research where the world denies women's place in science. They can never be together until they have a heated argument and make a wager. During the month long house party, Lucien has to stay celibate and Chastity has to secure a marriage proposal.
Mariah Stone is a new to me author. I loved her writing style. The story was very entertaining and fun. Told in third person. This pov worked with the multiple characters in the story. Lucien was a broody Duke that loved to have a good time. Chastity loved the medical research she did and was a bit socially awkward, but it was easy to connect to her.
As for the audiobook narration, it's terrific! Performed in dual by Shane East and Justine Eyre. They were wonderful. They nailed their characters. Shane captured Lucien's arrogance. Justine is a new to me narrator. She was exactly how I imagined Chastity to sound like. Justine conveyed Chastity with a delicate tone. I loved her male voice. As the main plot started to unfold, Lucien and Chastity's moments got even more intense. Shane and Justine do a great job of evoking all the emotions in this one. Highly recommend the audiobook!
Audiobook coming soon!
Thank you to @mustloveaudio for the opportunity to review and listen.
Duke of Luhst (Seven Dukes of Sin, Book 2) is a friends-to-lovers, forbidden relationship, Regency romance.
Lucien is known for his charm with women, using these relationships as a way to guard his heart, but this lifestyle doesn’t completely satisfy him. Chasity has known Lucien for most of her life and has loved him since she was young. As her brother’s best friend, he is off-limits to her. However, the chemistry and attraction between them are difficult to ignore.
I have read a couple of Regency romance books, and this one is my favorite. I was captivated by the very first chapter. Chasity and Lucien share amazing chemistry, and they help each other out by making a bet that evolves into much more than just a wager.
Together, they help each other move forward and deepen their connection. I felt completely immersed in the story; it was so vivid and well-described. I need to read more books by Mariah Stone. “The Duke of Lust” is a must-read! The writing is beautiful and highly addictive. I can't wait for book 3.
Tortured souls, can they find their way to each other? What a delightful series. Someone is out to destroy and ruin each one of the Seven Dukes of Sin, this time it’s The Duke of Luhst, Lucien. This is the story of a forbidden relationship. Lucien with his notorious reputation as a lady’s man and rogue can not act upon his feelings for Chastity, his best friend’s sister without ruining her reputation. A spur of the moment wager is made between the two but unbeknownst to them it will forever change their lives. Such a fantastic read with a touch of spiciness, some tender moments, an ongoing mysterious threat and lots of verbal sparring between the two main characters as the story develops. A book I devoured and thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait to be introduced to the Duke of Pryde and read his story in Book 3.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brother's best friend is one of my favorite tropes, so I was so excited to read this! I really liked Chastity's character. Her medical hobbies melted my heart and I loved her independence. Lucien was a jealous and protective hero, which I love haha.
Their bet was really fun, and added an unexpected plot turn. I go into books blind, so I was pleasantly surprised at the direction the bet took the story.
While I liked that they both judged each other harshly, and had to confront themselves in order to find love, it felt a bit too mean sometimes. Later in the book, when they both know they have feelings for each other, them insulting each other just felt a bit too mean. It also made their relationship feel fast at the end since they went from throwing their past back in each other's faces to professing their love.
There was an aspect of this book that happens towards the end (I won't spoil) that I wish was more fleshed out. It played a huge part in Lucien's story, but it was barely touched on. Because it was so rushed, it felt like his transformation happened overnight. I wish we got to see more of him finding himself and coming to terms with the changes he needs to make in his life.
Overall, this was a really fun historical romance! This was my first book by this author, but I will definitely be reading her backlist! And it got me back in the historical romance mood.
Thanks to the author for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Mariah has done it again. A wonderful story- Lucien and Chastity found each other again after a long time thinking each other unattainable. One a rake the other a scientist and thinking they were not good enough because of their parents ill treatment. I would recommend.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the love story of Lucien and Chasity. This book made me feel all the feels. Lucien and Chasity has deep wounds from their childhood and even tho they have loved each other from a very young age they have shut their hearts closed. A bet and a house party brings them together. This is an awesome story. I really enjoyed it.

Absolutely loved the juxtaposition of Chastity and the Duke of Luhst, Lucien. There is a lot of depth to this friends to lovers historical romance novel.
This was cute and a nice change from my current reads. Historical romance was my gateway drug into my reading life, so when this ARC presented itself, I jumped. I haven't read the first book in the series but honestly, this book was pretty much a standalone. Lucien and Chastity have been friends since childhood and they bonded over the horrible upbringing that both endured. Chastity is a woman of science and doesn't want a husband or children which is quite scandalous and at the ripe age of twenty-sixe she's been all but cast aside as a spinster. But a house party, a makeover and some flirting lessons, Lucien comes to the realization that she is his north star. Overall, this book was cute. Very traditional in the minimal spice but heavy on the yearning from all parties involved. Definitely recommend.
Mariah Stone has quickly jumped up to a 'must read' author for me. This second book in the Seven Dukes of Sin series will be the one to beat for me.
"Anyone but you" are the words that keep racing through Lucien's mind. His best friend had said this as a clear warning to stay away from his sister. Lucien knows all too well what kind of person he is and that he could never be good enough for Chastity. If Lucien is known for anything, it’s that he’s a rake of the worst kind; a notorious womanizer, known for having a different woman in his bed every night. This behavior is driven by his deep need to escape the pain of his mother's rejection.
Chastity’s childhood wasn’t any better. She learned early on to hide her true self, never wanting to draw the attention of her devious, abusive father who forcefully tried to mold his children to his expectations. She had no desire to trap herself in a marriage and be at the mercy of a man again. She was content with her solitary life secretly working with a doctor and researching ways to better the lives of the less fortunate.
This is a moving story of self-discovery, healing, and ultimately, unforgettable love. Lucien’s arc immediately grabbed hold of my heart. His emotional scars from his despicable mother explain a lot about his actions and why he wanted to remain emotionally detached. Chastity’s initial awkwardness and social blunders were so painful to witness but also something I can relate to. Their transformation was beautifully depicted. Chastity brought light into Lucien’s shadowy world encouraging him to embrace his feelings rather than hide from them. Lucien showed Chastity the beauty of connection, guiding her away from the coldness of solitude into the warmth of companionship.
Mariah Stone's writing style is exquisite. The simmering tension is palpable, building slowly and organically until it explodes into breathtaking scenes of passion. The emotional journey is raw and real, exploring themes of heartache and triumph with equal measure. The conflict feels authentic, adding depth and complexity to the narrative. The author masterfully showcases the characters' internal struggles, making their eventual acceptance of love all the more rewarding. Overall, this is an excellent portrayal of one of my favorite sub tropes - "It's always been you".
I was honored to receive an early copy directly from the author (Thank you!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author for sharing an ARC of this book with me !!!
“As LADY CHASTITY PERRIN dipped a hook needle into a bowl of spirits, she knew with a great certainty three things: One, a lady did not come unchaperoned to the rookeries of London. Two, an unmarried lady did not stay alone with a man. Three, a lady most definitely did not carry clean needles across a modest but spotless surgery to an unlicensed doctor to help him with a surgical operation that involved so, so -oh, goodness!-so much blood.”
This book was wildfire !!! It was spice, it was tension, it was forbidden and it was romantic and it was exactly what I would have want season three of Bridgerton to be. It had grovelling. It was lust. It was love. It was an MMC who doesn’t think he is worthy of her. It was an FMC who thinks he will never love her as much as she loves him because he is a rake and a rascal and he can’t commit. One bed trope. Forced proximity. They bet he cannot go a month without being a rascal and she cannot secure a proposal. But when the tension gets too thick … and they find themselves alone in a cabin all wet from the rain … oh boy the things that man says !!! I’m absolutely in love with Lucien!!! Absolutely in love with Chastity and with their story. Dorian made me mad multiple times and considering how thick his skull had been previously I can’t understand why he couldn’t see what everyone else was seeing. And again on Lucien … he made me feel all sorts of feelings. Giddy, excited, angry, mad and passionate all at once. Absolutely in love with him but I wanted to slap him in the face at the same time. But this book was such an entertainment that I simply couldn’t put it down. If given the time I would have definitely read it in one sitting but life came in the way and I had to postpone the ending!! But it was so worth it !!!! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read it !!! And I can’t wait for the other dukes of sin !!
"Oh, darling, you have no idea the extent of things I'd do for you."
"You don't need any bright colors to hold my attention."
“But since that damned bet, it had become intense. Since the night of the storm, it had become unbearable. Since the moment he knew her kiss, it had become exquisite torture.”
At its heart, this story is a deeply emotional and transformative journey of love, redemption, and self-discovery. Lucien Wrenn, the Duke of Luhst, is a rake with a reputation as wicked as his name suggests, but beneath his seductive charm lies a wounded soul shaped by an abusive and neglectful childhood. His escape from pain has always been emotional detachment and fleeting encounters. The one woman who tempts him to break his rules is Lady Chasity Perrin—his best friend’s sister and the one person he’s forbidden to love.
Chasity is a brilliant and determined bluestocking with no desire to marry. Her passion for medical research and her compassion for the less fortunate drive her to volunteer in Whitechapel, where her work is dismissed by a society that denies women a place in science. For years, she has loved Lucien from afar, but the thoughtful boy she once adored has become a careless rogue, seemingly incapable of the depth she craves.
Their simmering tension comes to a head during a month-long house party at the Duke of Pryde’s estate. An impulsive wager pushes them into uncharted territory: Lucien must remain celibate, while Chasity must secure a marriage proposal. As Chasity’s transformation into a sought-after debutante ignites jealousy in Lucien, the careful boundaries they’ve maintained begin to crumble.
The journey of these two characters is anything but smooth. Both Lucien and Chasity are forced to confront their deepest fears and desires. Lucien must face his inner demons, while Chasity begins to see the vulnerable man behind the rakish facade. Their dynamic is electrifying—full of longing, denial, and heartbreak—but it’s also a testament to the healing power of love.
The author masterfully portrays their emotional struggles and growth. Lucien’s anguish and self-loathing, Chasity’s determination and vulnerability, and their undeniable chemistry leap off the page. Every moment of passion and conflict feels raw and real, making their eventual union all the more satisfying.
This is more than a romance; it’s a story of two people who, despite their flaws and missteps, find their way to each other. The depth of their connection and the author’s ability to convey their emotional journey make this a story that lingers long after the final page. Lucien and Chasity’s love story is unforgettable—a perfect blend of passion, heartache, and triumph. The extended epilogue was so rewarding and added a beautiful glimpse into the future and I was so happy to see their passion hasn’t diminished and their future bright and happy.
I’m already eager to see what comes next in this series. If this book is any indication, the author is crafting a collection of stories filled with complex characters, heartfelt emotions, and powerful storytelling. I can’t wait to return to this world and see what other journeys lie ahead.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Mariah Stone is a new author for me and this is only my 8th book by her. I read her Dukes and Secrets series and couldn't put Book 1 down it was so good, so decided to get the complete series. I don't read book descriptions so I have no idea what I'm reading when I start a book but I assume it will be about some of the characters from previous books :). Makes for a more interesting read, I think. :)
So I have to say, I've read a lot of books lately and this by far is the best I've read in awhile. I LOVED Lucien and Chasity. They both had amazing personalities. Their chemistry was hot. Sex was hot. Lucien's story and how Mariah wrote his feelings were incredible. I teared up a few times reading about his past. Especially towards the end, when something unexpected happened. I just wanted to give him a hug. All the characters (Dukes of Sin) are well written. Just a great read. I couldn't put it down and I wanted it to keep going. This is a series I would have loved to read each book back to back but I definitely couldn't wait for all them to be released to do that. SO DAMN GOOD!
This is definitely going on my favorite reads for Jan, 2025 list.
You know a book is great when you can’t stop listening and you finished it in 24 hours! Mariah Stone may be my newest author obsession!
Our next sinful Duke in the series is Lucien, Duke of Luhst 😏 and boy is he sinful. Every woman wants him and honestly he’ll take every woman except the one he can’t have, his best friend’s sister, Chastity.
Chastity doesn’t want love or marriage or children. She wants to work in science and medicine. She is truly brilliant. She has also loved Lucien her whole life. She has given up that love after years of watching him be with so many women.
Until they make a bet. She has to gain a marriage proposal after a month long house party and he must keep his hands off women (and his hands off himself 😏). If either win they get the prize of their choosing. And then it all goes to hell!
wow …i am legit so excited for this entire series. we’re really building on found family trope hard on this one. and i just realized that the FMCs have very “virtuous” names like chasity and patience …while the dukes are named after sin. very clever.
this one is best friends younger sister, childhood friends, teaching lessons 😉, a bet involving sex and an engagement, and other scandals. this is definitely a bigger slower burn so just set expectations but the tension and yearning are there from page 1.
this was just so fun and i loved every second of it. if the writing stays tight on this series and spicy then i think this will be my new favorite historical series
Wonderful storyline. Chastity and Lucien have been friends since childhood and have hidden feelings for each other. Both have been emotionally scarred by situations in their past and neither wishes to wed. The Duke of Pryde’s month-long house party is a catalyst for change in many ways. I loved how Lucien and the Dukes of Sin helped Chastity choose her new clothing. Chastity and Lucien deserve a happily-ever-after, but it will take an epiphany before that can happen. This is a fantastic series, and I look forward to the next one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was so excited to get my hands on the next book in the Seven Dukes of Sin series! Lucien is one of the Dukes, and Chastity is his best friend's sister. A wager between them becomes more than they bargained for. Chastity has always loved Lucien, and it takes them getting closer to break down the walls around his heart. I enjoyed this story because it portrayed how words and our past can hurt. It's better to keep your heart open to love and not shut it out. I can't wait to read the next book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Lady Chastity has loved Lucien since a child. Unfortunately he believed something his uncle told him years ago about never losing his heart. She had a heart of gold and a love of learning, especially of preventative healing. No male took her seriously. This is her story of fighting for the right to medically help others, a right only given to males. Lucien wants to help her become more acceptable to males to enjoy more freedom. A challenge is made. A challenge they both want to win, a challenge that becomes life altering.
This is the first book I have read by this author. While I enjoyed it I will admit it took me a moment to get into. There was a ton of animosity between the hero and heroine. I don't mind that one bit. I actually enjoy it. But I'm not a fan of other women/men and this book reeked of it. I makes sense because Lucien is the Duke of Luhst (I love that play on spelling). But it was hard to get over the fact that he didn't care who he flaunted around, as long as he had a warm body. I do love the bet that him and Chastity created. I think they both needed to step away from there norm. As the 30 days progressed I started to love Lucien and his true self more.
Chastity was a unique character. I loved her but she drove me crazy. She hid her true self for years. Yes, she had an amazing brain. But she deserved happiness just as much as everyone else. This bet really helped her become the person she deserved to be.
If I'm honest this is probably a 3.5⭐ read. But now I'm intrigued and want to read more.. I'm loving these sins and names!
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
This book was such an entertainment that I simply couldn't put it down. Chasity is a brilliant scientist trying to find a way to advance her medical research. Lucien is her brother’s best friend and has a reputation of a lady’s man. Chasity and Lucien make a bet at a house party. 4/5 recommend it
