This was my first read from Jda J., and if I'm not mistaken, this is her first release in general. Overall, this was a good series that had me locked in.
I will say things turned out completely different than what I expected them to, and things that happened in the book caught me by surprise. With the title being "You The One and The Two," I really thought that phrase was meant for Lani and Chop. I thought through it all; somehow, they were going to end up with one another.
They both expressed their love for one another countless times, it's just that Chop continuously played in her face and messed with multiple women. To him, because they were supposed to be each other's true loves, he just knew Lani would be there when he finally got it together. He also used the fact that they were never officially in a relationship to his advantage as well.
I will say, I was happy that Lani was able to move on and find love outside of her situationship with Chop. She was able to be loved differently, and Duke seemed good at first. However, the more we learned about his background with relationships, he wasn't the man he portrayed himself to be. I was turned off after Keli shared her side of how their relationship went. However, what she did as payback for his repeated infidelities was too far.
Duke truly was a dog a** n*gga just like Chop. Then he proved he was still that dog a** n*gga with his "mistake" while Lani carried his children. Nonetheless, there was always a new layer of Lani being revealed throughout the series, and like we learned, Duke also learned she was not the one to play with. So I think, a mixture of her leaving him alone for a while, and actually beating his a** really scared him straight.
In the end, I feel like Lani and Duke's relationship ended up being out of convenience. So much happened in a short amount of time with their relationship that they were better off being with each other so that none of it would be in vain.
However, despite all the bullsh*t, she and Chop still remained each other's true loves. He definitely deserved the pain of watching another man love her for sure, but that should've been what scared him straight to do right by her and love her wholeheartedly moving forward. In the end, he probably had too much baggage and caused too much damage to what they built, it couldn't be repaired. So Duke was the more reasonable choice in the end.
