Presenting our first ever Rose Books Reader—a printed collection of work by writers we admire. The theme for this volume is “Primal Scream,” filled with characters and narrators on the edge and in various states of emergency or desire. This is a collection filled with collapse, entrapment, and desperation—it’s unhinged, hallucinatory, hormonal. In other words, this is the perfect companion to 2025.

Anthologies are and ebb and flood, especially in indie lit. This first volume from Rose Books is this but with a consistent high tide. Magnificent fiction with strong narratives and intriguing characters. Even stories you don’t enjoy are objectively sound writing. Looking forward to more volumes.
Sidebar: I was present for the launch party and heard a sampling of authors read live. You’ll certainly find a few favorites in here.
