Break Her Heart

Rate this book
This is a continuation from where Cross Her Heart left off. "You made me king. I’ll make you my queen."
It wasn’t a vow. It wasn’t love. It was her sentence. Her punishment.

Bronwen thought killing the first vampire would end it all—the nightmare that stole her parents, her future, even her heart. But Carrow was never truly gone. His shadow is rising, and every step forward drags her deeper into the truth she never saw coming.

Now she is trapped in a race against time with August at her side.
August, who is dangerous, unstable, and relentless.
August, who crowned her his queen not out of devotion but out of vengeance.
August, who might be the only thing standing between her and ruin.

Every secret they uncover knots them tighter together. Every touch burns hotter, sharper. Love and hate bleeding into something far more dangerous. Bronwen knows she should run from him.

But she also knows she never will.

Thank you to Lexi for allowing me to read this as a Beta Reader
EDIT: I have just finished the ARC copy now and I need to stare at a wall … again.

All I am saying is this is my Roman Empire. This is Lexi Hodges in her TOP CONDITION! The pacing, the connections between the books, the characters, the magic system - its a recipe for an amazing fantasy romance for veteran readers and a wonderful gateway book for those wanting to dip their toes into the genre!

The story continues from Cross Her Heart (which continues from an earlier timeline of War of Her Heart. This book will finish connecting the timelines for those die hard fans of Violet and Sebastian) so I can't give the summary plot because spoilers! But just know the title of the book is an indication of the reading process. You will be emotional, you will laugh, you will BLUSH with the banter and you will get whiplash from the plot twists.

I haven't felt this way about a book in a very long time. This needs to be added to your TBR when it is released in October immediately!

Read if you love
- easy to understand world building
- enemies to lovers to enemies
- plot twists that will have you pacing around the room
- touch her and die
- forced marriage
- well thought out, realistic characters
- connected plots from War of Her Heart (trust me having the back story makes the series so much better)
- vampires X witches
- betrayals
- the perfect amount of mouth watering spice
- Found family
- Strong, heart warming siblings relationship

I cannot wait to add Break Her Heart to my Lexi Hodges shrine!

This book was absolutely incredible from start to finish..

I have no idea how she stays so strong—between August’s clear love for her and her stopping herself from killing his siblings (lol). This book is hilarious in the best ways but also rips your heart out when you least expect it. The “I loved you” part? Absolutely destroyed me. Beautifully written, gutting, and unforgettable.

The last few chapters are a lot to take in—you’ll need time to digest them—but that’s what makes the story so real. Not every book gives you a happy ending, and while this one might break your heart, it’s such an important and powerful piece of the whole story. I’ll be thinking about it forever.

Thank you so much for giving me the honor of being an ARC reader—I’m truly grateful to have experienced this story early.

the first one just had this special thing to it. idk, i think im just annoyed at the ending, last 50 pages is just crammed with so much it doesn’t give you enough time to take it in or feel. and i get wennie is OP but my god killing so many characters was not the way to go. i get what the authors trying to do with wennie, she’s not soft she has no remorse for killing, and maybe im not the target audience for this but i wasn’t a fan. her actions had no consequence at all! idkkk IDK i know nothing ok ? i’m so friggin stupid

Thank you Lexi for an ARC of this book!! ❤️

WOW. I couldn’t put this book down. 10/10!!

This was so beautifully written. The connection between Bronwen and August is captivating. Their love for each other is so deep and raw you can’t help but want more of it. We see the struggles and heartbreak they go through with their relationships between each other, family, and within themselves.

I LOVED August’s POVs. As heartbreaking as they could be, his love for Bronwen was breathtaking. His character development and emotions were so well written with everything he was battling internally. He always goes above and beyond for his Winnie.

It was sweet seeing Adar and Bronwen’s relationship development throughout the book. After reading War Of Her Heart and Cross Her Heart I always wanted more of a better understanding of Bronwen and mainly Adar being the way he is. After reading this book it definitely makes sense, my heart was breaking for them both constantly! Bronwen is such a strong female character, she never gives up no matter what is going on around her. Her strength and love she has for the people closest to her is beautiful.

I cannot wait for more of Sebastian and Violet’s story to continue but I am definitely going to need more of Bronwen and Adar!!.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

First of all thank you so much Lexi for this arc!! This book took me through all the emotions. One minute I was laughing and smiling the next I was crying. I loved learning about Bronwen’s past prior to War of Her Heart. The yearning the banter the spice 10/10. August and Bronwen’s story is so tragically beautiful. I’m writing this through my tears. I’ll be sending you my therapy bill Lexi!! I can’t wait for the next book!

wow.

the emotional damage I have from Lexi needs to be studied . I am so grateful I was able to read this as an arc because after book 2 I needed to know what was happening.

as always I love August. Even when I wanted to hate him. There was parts where he said things that drove me crazy but when we would get his POV he would put my heart back together. This book made me love him so much more and getting his emotions and feelings and everything in between was everything I could’ve hoped for. I will always be rooting for August.

Bronwen is as always a baddie. Her character is one of the best I’ve read, and watching her grow throughout the two books has been the best. She loves so hard and she’s just trying to do the right thing while trying to avoid her feelings.

I don’t wanna say too much and spoil anything right now - I’ll be back with a more detailed review after release // but this book is going to put you through it. I was happy, sad, aggravated, hot, obsessed and literally everything in between.

Adar, I am still so intrigued by you and I did love to see more of him and bronwens sibling relationship. Also do I mention how badass these twins are? Like seriously holy fuck. Ugh & The way they care for each other and just want to be there for the other .. ugh my heart.

The ending is wild & I need 48 hours to process .

Ps-
Winnie and August have to be. 😭😭😭

'I couldn’t find the edges of myself anymore without finding her too. She wasn’t just a memory. She was a hunger.'

What I like
- I loved that this is not the typical romantasy sequel where the MMC has to grovel for forgiveness, but they kind of hate each other
- I loved to dive into the whole vampire world, because it contributes to the world building I missed in the first book
- I am not a big fan of dual POV but I loved the insight on Augusts thoughts and feelings
-Winnie kept her dark edge which made her a really unique FMC in book one - she is such an unconventional Heroine, she craves power, has her own darkness and is pretty unhinged sometimes - I loved her
-The atmosphere and tension in the book is top tier
-the storytelling in book one sometimes felt off - here it appeared way more elaborated and smoother

Thank you to the author for giving me an ARC of this book.

I went into this having read Cross Her Heart but not War of Her Heart, but that’s going to change and be read VERY soon.

This book devastated me. Did I have a great time? Yes. Did it make me tear up? Also yes.

The first 70% we get a lot of push and pull but a huge development in Bronwen and August’s relationship along with a race against time, then we got a slither of hope for about 12% of the book before just complete and utter despair for the remainder.

I love Bronwen and August so so much and i’m hoping for certain aspects to still be salvaged in the fourth book.

Lexi if we could have book 4 ASAP whilst I get reading War of Her Heart please 😩

See I was sooo excited going into this book but I had to DNF this book because I saw that August dies like wtf I don’t want that I want a happily ever after between what coulda been my favourite book couple but that never happened.

I fast forwarded to the last two chapters and what was that ending like “the darkness consumed her and she took her brother with her” no no no no I want a August and Bronwen to have forever together not him to die I can’t do that shit I’m not emotionally stable enough for that.

Like I don’t read books that don’t have a HEA Idc how many books it takes to make the couple together forever but for them to not have HEA and for her to become a vampire and to live alone for eternity no just no.

Honestly bold move from the author and great for her for doing something different I just can’t, I can’t fall in love with them over two books and in the end they don’t make it
I need a warning like a trigger warning for me to go into it like I would read a sad book and know it’s sad but that no warning I can’t I’m sorry.

This is my opinion if others enjoyed reading it honestly amazing I just can’t.

I loved the previous book so much. I was recommending it to all of my friends, and I was so excited for the next one to come out soon. This one completely ruined the whole story for me. I think it will be a long time before I will be able to get back to Cross her Heart (if at all) and it does make me sad.

Most of the book Bronwen is being an idiot - how did she get an idea that August had something to do with her parents’ death is beyond me. So she keeps being terrible until she realizes she was an idiot, but it’s kinda late.
The pacing is really off, most of the book barely anything happens, only for everything to finish so quickly and so… pointlessly.
I’m so torn about August’s death. On one side, I have to admit, killing the MMC is a bold move and something unusual but… what was that? His death made everything pointless. It was so rushed. We spent the whole book trying to save him only to fail miserably and have him go in such an awful way.

I have to admit, up until the ending, it was a quite enjoyable read. I did like the enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers in the story a lot. Aside from the miscommunication trope, I love how the characters were build and the story made me feel attached to them and feel for them. I could love it, but it did break my heart and unfortunately not in a way that I would enjoy.

I wish I never started this series.

I’m assuming there will not be another book on B&A story due to the epilogue at the end of this book. If I knew it was gonna end the way it did I would never picked up the series.

Maybe is the books themselves were good I could’ve said the books are amazing the ending broke my heart but to be completely honest the books were decent with a horrible ending that completely ruins any decency had.

So if you’re thinking about reading this book do yourself a favor for your mind body and spirit and don’t!

I was so excited for this after reading the first 2 the other month and the last 30% was amazing, phenomenal, 10/10. But the first 70% dragged on for ages, it was the same stuff- look for the sword, no luck, go dance, burn some people, repeat. However I am so beyond excited for the continuation of Violets story

I think I’m going to need a couple days to fully process all of this book. Wow!

Thank you to the author for an e-arc of this book!

Let me tell you, the title Break Her Heart is fitting because you go through ALL the rollercoaster of feelings including breaking your heart!

This installment continues from Cross Her Heart, which diverted from book 1’s characters and has been focusing on Bronwen’s backstory. Break Her Heart definitely starts connecting everything back to War of Her Heart and will bring us back into that story flawlessly. I just know we aren’t done with Bronwen’s story and hope we get more of her POV in future books, even if they aren’t fully focused on her.

August and Bronwen’s story is beautiful and gut wrenching all at the same time ❤️💔 Plus on top of it, we get to see Bronwen and Adar’s sibling relationship start to heal back again after the events in Cross Her Heart and how they both end up in the Nigh Realm.

I’m so engrossed now to see where this story goes! I know we’re going back to Sebastian and Violet, but NOW I want and need more Bronwen and Adar, so how the author is going to continue connecting all their stories I am so excited for! 🤩

We got more spice 🌶️ in this book than we did in either book 1 or 2, which I was glad to see. The passion August and Bronwen have for one another just blazed off the page ❤️🥵

I was skeptical at first when we were going to divert after War of Her Heart to Bronwen’s back story but I am so glad we did and have loved every word of these past 2 books! I can’t wait for the next installment!!

Ok so this book felt very unoriginal as it used too much, too many, similar scenes from The Originals. And I absolutely hated the ending. It felt rushed and unnecessary.
