Orlando Storm #3

Golden Goal

Rate this book
A broken goalie. A physical therapist. And the love they didn’t expect. But will it be enough to heal what they’re afraid to face?

Holt Abbott, the goalie for the Orlando Storm and a newly single dad, is the last person I should fall for. As the team’s newest physical therapist, my job is to help him heal so he can get back in the net.

I should not be thinking about how good looking he is or how much I admire the way he took on his new responsibility as a dad without hesitation. I should not be wanting to find out who he is under the grumpy exterior. Especially because I have my own baggage.

But the more time I spend with him the more I can’t resist him. Before I know it, we’re giving into our feelings and agreeing to see where things go.

Until his past comes back to haunt him, and threatens our future together. I don’t know if we’ll survive. It really might just be too good to be true.

Golden Goal is book three in the Orlando Storm series but can be read as a standalone.

Tropes: Sports, Forced Proximity, Workplace, Single Dad
Intended for audiences 18+, contains mention of alcoholism & drug abuse by family members of one of the main characters (MCs), difficult family relationships, child abandonment (not done by the MCs), mental and emotional abuse (mentioned in regards to past relationships, done to one of the MCs), gaslighting (mentioned in regards to past relationships, done to one of the MCs), stalking (done to the MCs), depictions of panic and anxiety attacks.

Book Review: Golden Goal by Marissa James
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

I miss watching hockey—especially after reading this book. While Golden Goal isn’t solely about hockey, the Brotherhood that Holt (our swoon-worthy MMC) shares with his teammates really stood out to me. That camaraderie, loyalty, and playful banter reminded me of what makes hockey teams so special, and honestly, it made me miss the sport even more.

But beyond the rink, what really hooked me was the connection between Holt and Rebecca. Their relationship—from friends to something so much deeper—is beautiful, emotional, and yes… deliciously spicy 😍. I loved how natural their bond felt, whether it was emotional support or flirty tension.

If you’re a fan of hockey romances with heart, heat, and strong friendships, Golden Goal should be on your list. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series—this story definitely scored with me!

I thought this was a fun and sweet read with just a sprinkle of angst! I loved Rebecca and Holt together and how we get to see their relationship really grow. Holt is such a grump and has just learned he is a single dad and has some things to work through.

I definitely connected with Rebecca as she tries to get to know such a close knit group. She struggles with relationships and I found her to be very relatable.

I absolutely loved the friend group and the sense of found family! I am excited to see where this series goes!

Thank you, Marissa, for providing me with an ARC to read. I enjoyed every bit of this story.

Dr. Rebecca Jansen has just joined the Orlando Storms team as their physical therapist. While she interacts with various players, the grumpy goalie, who has a minor injury, catches her eye. It's her job to help him heal and not fall for him.

One day, Holt's ex unexpectedly leaves a baby with him, stranding him as a single dad. From the moment he holds the baby, it’s clear that he is naturally meant to be a father. His bond with Hazel was too sweet to handle, and I was relieved that it wasn't all perfect days.

Coming to Holt and Rebecca, they were truly made for each other. Their relationship is a mix of awkwardness and sweetness, and I loved every part of it. The slow progression of their bond into something deep and meaningful, without either of them realising it, was another aspect I appreciated.

Both main characters feel real; they aren’t perfect, and both are somewhat broken, needing healing that they found together.

The spice was good but not too descriptive.

Side Characters:
1. Wes—Oh, I loved him! The golden retriever of the friend group, and his quirkiness, had me hooked from the start.
2. The friend group was just too precious and supportive.
3. Sutton is delightful, and I can’t wait to read her story.
4. There was one character I despised (you’ll know who I mean once the book is released).

The potential couples in the story had me so excited.

The only thing I wish was different was the third-act breakup. However, the ending was sweet, and we were treated to a lovely bonus epilogue.

This book is packed with healing, friendship, love, and drama—a complete package.
I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Overall, I rate it 4/5.
Definitely recommended :)

Oh how I loved this story 🥹🥹 this was such a sweet romance…I loved both MC’s and loved watching them grow together.

Rebecca is our FMC. She is the new Physical therapist for the Orlando storm hockey team…she’s had her fair share of pain when it comes to relationships in her past…so she tends to be a bit guarded…giving all her love to her cat, peaches.

Holts is our MMC, and in true goalie fashion is a grumpy grump and we love him for it. Holts had his own set of issues when it comes to love…steel reeling from the trouble with his ex. To make matters worse, he’s suffered a minor injury which sidelines him, and pushes him into the company of the new team PT, Rebecca.

Sparks fly when these two meet, but they definitely are off limits to each other. In the middle of all of this, Holts ex storms back into his life, dumping their baby which he had no clue about into his lap and making him a single dad overnight. To say he was shell shocked is an understatement. But Holt handles it with grace. Pushing his feelings for Rebecca to the back of his mind while it tries to grapple his new role as dad.

Surprises never stop coming when Holt and Rebecca realise they are neighbors. This new development helps to push them closer. Giving them the chance to build a friendship. It’s definitely a slow burn but one that I think is needed and truly makes sense to the story.

We get to see them navigate getting to know each other and watch as they slowly bring their walls down for each other. Rebecca was definitely harder to open up. She resisted quite a bit because of work and her past. I do wish we had more background on her past so we could understand it more. We get a lot of Holt through flashbacks which makes sense because we are learning about his past relationship and the circumstances that lead to him being a single dad. But Rebecca seemed way more guarded and I would have liked to see exactly what was making her hold back so much.

There is a 3rd act breakup. I can see where it would sort of made sense…but these two had such good communication that it seemed like something that they could work through. But eventually they do and they get the ending they all deserve and build the family they have always wanted.💛

Thank you so much to Marissa James for the opportunity to ARC read this incredible book.💛

This is my first book by Marissa, and I can say I will be reading more from her, along with the previous books in this series! This was an adorable, slightly angst-filled hockey romance that had me tearing up and smiling at the same time.

Holt owns my heart. He is such a sweet, grumpy man who just wants to be loved, but is too scared to open himself back up after being burned. His growth through the story was amazing, the way he immediately stepped up to be a father even before he could process that he was a dad. His vulnerable moments with Rebecca had me wanting to cry for him. Not to mention the moments shared between him and his teammates. I love seeing an MMC who knows he needs help and learns to love himself with the help of the people around him.

Rebecca has her trauma that she wasn't ready to face until she met Holt. She was very wary of getting close to Holt and the other players because of her job as their PT, but she couldn't help the pull she felt between her and Holt. Becca was adorable with Hazel, and I loved how she didn't question anything but stepped up to help Holt and fall in love with Hazel. She was very closed off about her background, but seeing Holt open up to her helped her do the same. She realized she deserves to be loved and have someone by her side through both the hard parts and the easy parts.

However, I do wish we got more on Becca and her relationship with her brother. I wanted to see their relationship grow and see the real issues her family had. I also think the ending was a bit rushed through and didn't give the drama it wanted.

Overall, I enjoyed the story between Holt and Becca, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Thank you, Marissa and her team, for the ARC

This was a sweet, well-written story. I usually don't like too many flashbacks, but this one had the right amount to tell the story behind the main character's struggles.

Rebecca
~ Just started working as the physical therapist for the Orlando Storm Hockey team.
~ She has experienced a lot of heartbreak in her past.

Holt
~ Starting Goalie for the Orlando Storm Hockey Team
~ He’s gone through a lot of rough stuff with his ex

When Rebecca joins the Orlando Storm hockey team, she must adapt to a close-knit, family-like environment. Meanwhile, Holt is navigating a breakup and a surprise baby girl. As neighbors, Rebecca and Holt slowly develop a relationship, overcoming challenges and growing stronger together.

My thoughts
It was heartwarming to see Rebecca open up and make friends at work. The emotional flashbacks that revealed her and Holt’s individual struggles they had to face before they met had me teary-eyed at times. The side characters were fun (except his crazy ex) and played a big role in their healing journey.

If you enjoy these tropes, I recommend this book.:

🏒Workplace Romance
🏒Single Dad (surprise baby)

I gave this book five stars without hesitation. I really enjoyed how both Holt and Rebecca were dealing with their own struggles and still managed to find connection and comfort in each other. Their bond grew naturally, and the neighbor dynamic added something really sweet. The flashbacks helped me understand their pain, but they never felt too much. Holt especially won me over with how much he grew as a person. It felt realistic, not too dramatic, just honest and touching. A beautiful story. Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.

Dr Rebecca Jansen just moved to Orlando to work for the Orlando Storm hockey team as their physical therapist. Holt Abbott is the grumpy goalie for the Orlando Storm hockey team. She is tasked to work with him when he is injured also while trying not to fall for the hot grumpy goalie. He is also her next door neighbor. They are both attracted to each other but they both have past trauma they are trying to heal from. Things take an unexpected turn when Holt’s ex drops off his newborn daughter on his doorstep and signs away her rights leaving him a single dad to care for a newborn infant.

I loved how his family and teammates came in to offer him help and even Becca which brings them closer together. I love how they all rallied to help him and the group texts were so funny. This was such a sweet story. I loved Becca and Holt together.

This was my first book by this author and I can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you to author Marissa James for an ARC of this book I really enjoyed it!

New book boyfriend unlocked. Seriously. I always seem to gravitate towards the goalies books and Holt was no exception.

Holt gets the surprise of a lifetime when he opens his front door and is a now a newly (grumpy) single dad. From the second he finds out, he is all in. ALL. IN. He takes time away from hockey (for multiple reasons) but his new baby becomes his main focus.

Rebecca is the new team physical therapist and man does she try hard to not fall for a player. She keeps it strictly professional for as long as she can. My god the slow burn was slow BUT sooooo worth it. The tension and build up kept me hooked. I devoured this in less than a day.

1.5🌶️

I love this found family and I'm obsessed with the Storm series. I never want it to end!

I cannot wait for Wes's book. He is so goofy and I just *need* him to get his HEA.

Golden Goal is a fast paced hockey romance about a grumpy goalie and the team’s new physical therapist. Holt has been in a bad mood for months and its beginning to affect his game. He hasn’t told his friends and feels guilty the more time passes. Rebecca is the team’s new physical therapist trying to get used to the more relaxed environment compared to private practice. At her first home game she notices Holt during his pregame impressive stretching, but then as she continues to watch she notices something is wrong. Becca insists he come in the next day to get checked out. He has to get treatments for a couple weeks and can’t play or skate. Holt gets the surprise of his life when he opens his door to see his ex with a baby, his baby. He starts to panic and calls his friends who have kids and soon all his friends and coach are over to help out. Becca is woken up by a crying baby from next door. She is shocked when Holt opens the door. These two get close seeing each other at the arena and at home. One night they share a heated kiss but are interrupted by Hazel’s crying. She ends up pushing him away after that, saying it was a mistake and nothing can happen between them. Becca is coming home from a disaster of a date when she runs into Holt outside her apartment. They end up getting dinner and eating her place. Becca admits she has feelings for hunt but she has baggage and doesn’t want him to get hurt. They decide to take things slow, and it is a slow burn but with a lot of sweet moments. When his ex returns casuses problems, Becca tries to end things to save Holt and Hazel from getting hurt because of her. He doesn’t let her go and they face the issue together. The side characters were fun creating a true found family for Becca. I loved how Holt took to being a dad so quickly. Some of the writing was repetitive and the different POVs weren’t distinguishable with their inner dialogue. This is tame in comparison to what I normally read, but because it was short and fast paced I didn’t mind the slow burn.

If you love a grumpy, broody single dad goalie and a sunshiney physical therapist with a heart of gold, then this one’s going straight to your TBR! 🙌🏼

Holt Abbott is the Orlando Storm’s star goalie, but he isn’t just any goalie. He’s fiercely protective, awkwardly sweet, and absolutely dedicated to baby Hazel since the moment she was put in his arms. 🥹 However, with a surprise baby situation and an injury, he’s just trying to keep everything together! Enter Rebecca. Rebecca is his new physical therapist. She never planned to fall for a player, especially one with emotional baggage and a newborn in tow. Her only plan was to heal him. But when forced proximity turns into stolen glances and emotional confessions, it’s game on. 🥵

Their relationship is built on proximity, tension, and trust. From teammates to neighbors to something deeper, their chemistry smolders, and watching them find their way to each other had me swooning. The slow burn is REAL but the payoff is so satisfying. 🔥

I loved the slow burn tension, the found family feels, and the way their emotional walls slowly crumbled. Holt’s vulnerability as a single dad and Rebecca’s determination to help him (despite her own scars) made their story so heartfelt and swoony.

This is book 3 in the Orlando Storm series, but it reads beautifully as a standalone. Bonus points for how it handles mental health, tough pasts, and parenting with so much heart.

Spicy and emotional, Golden Goal is the perfect mix of heartfelt healing and on-ice heat. Can be read as a standalone, but now I need the rest of the Orlando Storm series! 💙🥅

TENSION. TENSION.
Wow, Marissa did such an amazing job. The character development is amazing and the way she encapsulates mental abuse and trauma and how healing isn't linear and takes time. That accepting help from those we trust and love - offering our vulnerability isn't a weakness but a strength.
Here you'll meet - Holt, the grumpy goalie, unsure of his place in the world and his own path as he navigates a big jaw dropping surprise and Becca, a commanding, authoritative physical therapist with a balance of sweet and tenderness. Holt unsure of his value finds comfort in the presence of Becca but Becca doesn't want to mix work and pleasure and fights off what her heart is telling her to chase but the pull is too much. Caving, they forge a path of healing and understanding, discussion on the uncomfortable. Allowing ourselves to speak of our trauma to not only bring healing but not let it be the end, to not be the definition of us.
Despite all the tension and love spread through these pages, the weight of the past comes to haunt not just Holt but dragging Becca into the undertow. Becca is forced to make a tough decision and one she never wanted to make but old habits die hard and protecting those you love comes at costs. Smacked with the reality of the deception behind it, she realizes her mistake: that Holt is her happily ever after - she goes after what she wants and that's him. They seek justice and find healing within each other and among a team that started out as strangers and ended as a found family.
Absolutely enthralling, fast paced, loving, spicy story between two broken souls who found a way to mend each other and change the way they see themselves. A wonderful lesson to exemplify that our choice made, the past we run from - can be rewritten and we redefine our own self worth and meaning; not the ones who hurt us.

Thank you for letting me read this for you Marissa! I can't wait to see you and your stories among my collection of hockey romance!

Rebecca is the Orlando Storm’s new physical therapist and Holt Abbott, the goalie for the Orlando Storm, is the last person she should be falling for. Her responsibility is to get him back in the net, not wanting to see what’s beneath that grumpy exterior. But the more time Rebecca spends with Holt, the harder it is to resist him. When Holt’s past comes back to haunt him, it threatens Rebecca and Holt’s future.

GOLDEN GOAL is the third book in the Orlando Storm series, but it can be read as a standalone. It was a pleasure getting to dive back into this world and get reacquainted with the Storm team. The Storm team, be it players, coaches, or support staff, are such a great group of people and a big family. They’re all welcoming to newcomers, making it an easy transition for new faces, and they’re also ready at any moment to step up for their colleagues when they’re in need. It’s a beautiful dynamic, and one that continues to be present in each book.

GOLDEN GOAL is Holt and Rebecca’s story. I love workplace romances, so this was definitely going to be an easy book for me to sink myself into. Both Holt and Rebecca have some history that makes their romance a bit more challenging, but it was great to see how they each supported the other as they learned how to heal and be together. GOLDEN GOAL isn’t a very spicy read, but there is palpable chemistry between the two main characters, and their dynamic is so sweet.

I love the supporting characters and can’t wait to see whose story Marissa will share next - I’m personally hoping it will be Sutton’s!

I would like to thank the author, Marissa James, of this advanced digital copy for the opportunity to read this novel in exchange for an honest review! All opinions expressed are my own.

I love this so much!!! I had the time of my life reading, the perfect amount of sweet and cute moments, and angst. Not a lot of smut, so if you need a smut cleanser this is good. But it doesn’t need smut when the plot and their chemistry carries everything. If you love the Windy City series you’ll love these, immaculate vibes, cute characters and interesting storyline. I totally needed this after reading a bunch of dark smutty books. Plot was amazing, I was hooked onto every page. We’ve got a professional hockey goalie whose life has been turned upside down by first his hip injury then the appearance of his sudden child, that he had with his manipulative ex. He's a grumpy tough goalie but he’s very insecure when it comes to relationships after his ex’s manipulation and toxicity. However Holt has found his perfect match in the team's new physical therapist, Rebecca. She struggles in relationships too because of her family struggles. I found them so cute together, she’s so adamant on keeping it professional but when he starts doing therapy with her and when she finds out he’s her next door neighbour and they spend more time together, her barriers crack. Holt is also trying so hard to keep it professional and feels like he isn’t ready for a relationship because of all the new responsibilities but… maybe some help is all he needs. They’re so cute, just seeing them open up to each other, go on dates and be so adorable melted my heart. I also love how they are aware of their emotional baggage and acknowledge and talk to each other about it. They’re legit the ideal couple with green flags waving up to the sky. They go through some struggles in their journey, and honestly I actually didn’t expect that to happen. It’s not often that it’s the mmc with a terrible stalker ex. I had the most wonderful time reading this and my heart feels so full of love. The characters have a special place in my heart and I give this a 5/5

Golden Goal by Marissa James was the perfect mix of sweet, swoony, and unexpectedly hilarious. It’s one of those feel-good reads that sneaks up on you with real emotion and just the right amount of spice.

Holt, a professional hockey player for the Orlando Storm, is still licking his wounds from a breakup when—surprise!—he finds out he’s going to be a dad. Cue the chaos of juggling his career, unexpected fatherhood, and the emotional minefield that comes with both. Thankfully, his sister has his back, but Holt is definitely in over his head.

Enter Rebecca, the team’s new physical therapist with some deep emotional wounds of her own. She’s used to things falling apart and has built some serious walls because of it. But from the moment she meets Holt, there’s a spark. Not an insta-love situation, but a slow-burn, trust-me-even-when-it’s-hard kind of romance that hits all the right notes.

Their chemistry simmers beneath moments of kindness, vulnerability, and just the right pinch of steam. And the Orlando Storm team? Total found family energy. They rally around Holt and create a support system that makes the emotional beats hit even harder.

This story is all about healing after heartbreak, finding strength in connection, and trusting yourself to move forward—even when it’s scary. Holt and Rebecca’s journey was tender, funny, and downright addictive.

Golden Goal felt like a warm hug wrapped in hockey pads and second chances. If you’re into emotionally layered, character-driven romance with heart, heat, and humor—this one belongs on your TBR. And yes... I’m *very* ready for Sebastian and Sutton’s book. 👀

*Golden Goal is book 3 in the Orlando Storm series and is an interconnected standalone. While not necessary to read Hot Shot (book 1) or Break Out (book 2), characters and history may make more sense*

When Holt finds out he's a dad and a single one at that, on top of being out as starting goalie, the last thing he should be focused on is a relationship with the team's physical therapist. Rebecca is thinking the same as Holt but is worried her past will stop anything good from happening. Will their past get in the way before they even give things a chance?

I've been patiently waiting for Marissa's next Orlando Storm book, and she did not disappoint! I love the found family she's created in this series, especially cameos and updates on past characters within this story! The whole time, I'm learning about why Holt and Rebecca are the way that they are because of their past, I'm also screaming, "Just give each other a chance!" When they finally do, they're so good together with such supportive friends and family! It broke my heart that Holt is so sweet but so put down because of his last relationship. Rebecca helps fix his thoughts of himself while he helps her with her past hangups on herself as well so they truly are so good for each other. I really like a lot of the side characters introduced in this story and am hoping a few certain ones are getting their book next!

Thank you Marissa James for an advanced copy of this book!

Holt is such a cutie! I feel like most hockey goalies I've read about are similar to him - personality wise. He's the strong and silent type, sometimes to his detriment because he doesn't talk about his feelings or what he's going through and toughs it out alone. He definately learned how to lean on and rely on his closest friends and family. He's got his little found family that showed up for him and gave hime grace when he needed it, and a shove in the butt when he needed it too!

Becca is the new physical therapist, she was looking for a change up in her medical practice and found herself in the Storm family. She was a bit thrown at the beginning, the Storm team really does mean it when they say everyone is like family! She's got walls around her but everyone keeps trying to knock them down, including the surprise single dad Holt and his new baby girl Hazel.

Such a fun read, very heart warming. There is OWD, Holt's ex (and Hazel's mother) was not the best girlfriend when they were together, and it turns out she was not down to be a mother. Both Holt and Becca know their insecurities and sources of anxiety, they both go on their own healing journeys throughout this book and find happiness with each other. There is a small reverse age gap, but it's only mentioned once throughout the book.

The spice! There are a few open door spice scenes, not very many, about 2-3 scenes and it is a slooowwww burn. Scenes are in the last 100ish pages of the book. They are steamy scenes, a few "good boy" and "good girl" 's are thrown around!

From the very first page, I was instantly drawn to the chemistry between Rebecca and Holt. The gradual buildup of tension was skillfully crafted, a perfect blend of vulnerability, anxiety, and an irresistible attraction as they confront their individual wounds, ambitious dreams, and an unbreakable bond.

This tale was notable for its unique take on the single father stereotype. The surprise was unforeseen, and I found it amazing. The true enchantment unfolds when Rebecca and Holt discover they live next to each other, but their relationship initially begins as a doctor and a patient due to an injury that prevents him from working. Their bond naturally deepens, and it was rewarding to witness it evolve into something greater.

I have a weakness for characters involved in the medical profession in any capacity. It’s evident that I truly adore Rebecca. I adore Holt and, naturally, Hazel too! I truly care for all the members of the Storm team. I want to explore the other writings by this author to experience their narratives too. I truly appreciated the love story between Rebecca and Holt, and if you enjoy hockey or modern romances, I strongly suggest exploring this book and series. I’m very glad that I received an ARC of this book as a gift.

Powerful chemistry, great humor, surprising revelations, heartfelt instances, and a few heartbreaking ones characterize Golden Goal, a gradually unfolding romance. In addition to the truly touching and warm moments shared by Holt and Rebecca, I love all the uncomfortable times with friends.

Golden Goal is the 3rd book in the Orlando Storm series and is an interconnected standalone. There are spoilers for books one and two but you do not need to read them before Golden Goal.

Golden Goal follows the story of goalie Holt Abbott and Dr. Rebecca Jansen. Holt is (not) dealing with the aftermath of an abusive relationship and in the middle of a bad season when he is hit with a double whammy. He needs injury rehab and he’s been surprised by his baby being dropped on his doorstep. Dr. Rebecca Jansen is the new physical therapist for the Orlando Storm and going through a transition period in her life. Fate would have it that Holt and Rebecca live next door to each other.

This is a story of healing and personal growth for both characters. We get to see Holt’s growth a little more than Rebecca’s. There is a slow build and trust being built between the two main characters as the story develops. There’s no cheating or love triangles, but there is other woman/baby mama drama. The book focuses on the relationships and interactions with not a lot of hockey moments. The third act break up is pretty mild and easily resolved. There is a happily ever after as well as an extended epilogue that gives a view long into the future.

From the very first page, I was completely drawn in by the chemistry between Rebecca and Holt. The slow-burn tension was masterfully done, a perfect blend of angst, vulnerability, and magnetic pull as they each navigate personal scars, big dreams, and an attraction that just won't quit.

What made this story stand out was the fresh take on the single dad trope. I wasn't expecting the twist, and I absolutely loved it. Rebecca and Holt's connection begins as doctor and patient after an injury sidelines him, but the real magic starts when they discover they’re next-door neighbors. Their friendship blossoms naturally, and watching that evolve into something deeper was so satisfying.

Both characters experience incredible growth, but Holt especially stole my heart. Seeing him open up, lean on the people around him, and confront his past gave the story so much emotional depth. And the way this book celebrates found family? Perfection.

Golden Goal is heartfelt, fun, and packed with emotional moments that make you root for every character. I'm officially hooked on the Orlando Storm series and can’t wait to see who’s up next!

What To Expect:

Thoughts:
This was a classic Hockey romance that reminded me a bit of Becka Mack’s Playing for Keeps series. There was a slow build relationship hampered by both of their perceived shortcomings and the complication of Rebecca starting as Holt’s doctor. They were such a great couple and their story was so romantic -by the last quarter there was a fair bit of spice. I loved the added sweetness of baby Hazel and Becca’s cute cat Peaches. Marissa handled their mental health concerns well and I liked how the Main Characters decided on therapy to help them overcome their issues. I enjoyed the external challenges in the story’s third act, leading to them having to fight back to become a happy family. I look forward to reading more of this Orlando Storm series as the rest of the single Characters and the team atmosphere was so great.

🛑Please read all the author warnings as themes and events in this book could be triggering. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

𝙂𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙂𝙤𝙖𝙡 (𝘼𝙍𝘾 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬) // 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙖 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨

- hockey goalie x physical therapist
- single dad (surprise baby)
- alpha protector
- reverse age gap (5 years)
- found family
- forced proximity
- the best bromances

There is just something about Marissa's writing that feels like a warm hug. Golden Goal is no exception - fast paced, easy to read with a smooth storyline... You really can't ask for more!

Golden Goal features Holt, the Storm's grumpy goalie, and Rebecca- the teams new physical therapist.

Holt and Rebecca's romance is a bit of a slow burn, and so incredibly sweet. I couldn't help but smile at their interactions, because everyone deserves a gentleman like Holt. Adding in a bit of "good boy" and "good girl" action and pheww 🥵

The found family aspect is just as good as I remember from the last Storm books - when Holt is left with a surprise baby, his life is momentarily turned upside down. That is, until his teammates and coach show up to make things happen. Adding to that, Rebecca is completely taken in by the girls of the Storm and ugh. My heart!

There is an underlying bit of suspense in the storyline, weaved in just perfectly so you knew it was there, but it didn't overwhelm the story. If you're looking for a sweet workplace romance with a sexy single dad, look no further! This is sure to fit the bill.

This is the third book in the Orlando Storm series, and can absolutely be read as a standalone.

Oh yeah baby, this was exactly what i needed, just a chill sport romance, with surprise baby and single dad, where she is a little bit older, they both have bagagge but work through it.
I mean, you can tell i really enjoyed this book, the love, the friendship, the relationships…
Everything was treated was just perfectly.
Did i love the sometimes misscomunication? Yes, but it’s normal to happen in new relationships.
———————————————————————————
Becca is the new PT of the Storms (the hockey team) she has quite some emocional bagagge (family related) and has sworn off falling in love, marrying and having kids.
Holt has just come out of a really really REALLY toxic relationship (eventhough he didn’t see it at the time) and is hell bent on only caring about his hockey career as a golie.
Bur nothing is as easy as we want it to be, because and unexpected visitor will change everything for Holt, and as Becca is his neighbour, he live will also change.

———————————————————————————

I recieved this book as an ARC and i can only assure you that my opinion is not based on it, but rather how good this story was, and obviously, thank you so much Marissa for trusting me with this proyect.

Holt and Becca

FMC: Dr. Rebecca Janson
MMC: Holt Abbott, Hazel (infant)
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Pages: 264
Tropes: Hockey Romance, Forced Proximity, Workplace Romance, Single Dad, Neighbors to Lovers, Grumpy/Sunshine, Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn
Setting: Orlando, Florida

Thoughts: This was a good, quick read. Holt and Becca both had a lot of character growth throughout the book. They both had reasons for being wary of getting into a relationship and I appreciated the slow pace they took that gave them time to get to know each other. I loved the found family aspect with the team that included players, coaches, wives, and other staff. They all rallied around Holt to help him when his infant daughter was dropped on his doorstep. Becca had just as much character growth. She had some trauma from her experiences with her family as a child that had kept her closed off from letting anyone new into her life and it took time for her to get over her fears and let Holt and the Storm family fully into her life. There was a good amount of hockey and I liked that it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Holt and Becca had good days and bad days and it made their relationship and the story more believable. There were a lot of potential couples suggested and I can’t wait to see if they get their own books!

Holt Abbot is the goalie for the Orlando Storm. He keeps to himself and hides a lot of his personal struggles from everyone: his last disastrous relationship and his lack of self-esteem that rose from it
Dr Rebecca Jansen is the new team’s physical therapist. Used to keep her distance from her patients, she is suddenly confronted with a very different dynamic, as everyone is friendly and welcoming.
When Abbot gets injured, they are forced into spending a lot of time together and are inevitably attracted to each other and when he gets a very unexpected visit that will change his life forever, they also find out they are neighbours. They get closer and closer, until they decide to try to be together.
Unfortunately, their lack of self-esteem and their pasts will get in the way and threaten everything.
A story about pure love that is by no means perfect. Both Rebecca and Abbot have to learn to get their pasts behind them in order to move on.
I loved this story, because it shows that love isn’t always perfect, but it’s always kind when real.
The way the characters are flawed is exactly how real life is.
It’s the perfect read if you want something honest, heart warming and charming.

Thank you for the ARC.

Holt is a goalie and learns early in the book that his ex-girlfriend who has serious issues, has had a baby who she brings to him and leaves. New to the team and his apartment building is Rebecca a physical therapist with a lot of baggage herself. Holt is a giant cinnamon roll - so sweet and a good guy - but with a lot of issues mostly related to his ex. She was definitely abusive.

What I liked:
- that the guy had an abusive ex. Very often it is the woman and yet there are a lot of really sweet guys who get taken advantage of
- How he was with his daughter and friends
- He did not argue too much about his injury which benched him. I do hate when players go on and on about taking care of themselves. He was somewhat resistant but not overdone.
- Got therapy to deal with his past

What I didn't like:
- Rebecca's resistance to being a "friend" on the team fell quickly. I did not really understand how it happened but suddenly she was OK with socializing with them all
- There was not much talk of the future, kids, etc. and it ended a little abruptly
- Third act breakup. It was short but unnecessary

Overall an enjoyable read but a bit uneven. Recommend for a simple escape with a super sweet hero.

While I know nothing about hockey, I am a sucker for a hockey romance. The brooding players? Yes, please 😍 The Golden Goal was no exception, and I loved every bit of it. Dr Rebecca Jansen is the newest member of the Orlando Storm as a physical therapist. We follow her journey as she tries adapting to a new city and a close-knit family like environment. Despite interacting with most players, it’s the grumpy goalie that catches her eye and not just because he’s trying to hide a minor injury from her 😉 They both try to ignore the sparks; which is a challenge since they’re next-door neighbors, but it gets even harder once Holt’s ex-girlfriend dumps a baby on him unexpectedly. Not only does Holt get help from Rebecca, but he also gets help from the entire team as they step up to support him as he navigates his newfound fatherhood. Watching Holt and Rebecca learn that they are deserving of love and begin healing themselves and each other was beautiful. We all have some kind of trauma from past relationships, and it was beautiful, watching how they navigated the difficulties. With the Golden Goal we get banter, brotherhood, a sense of family, quite a bit of spice and everything in between.

Golden Goal (Orlando Storm Book 3)

📍Grumpy X Sunshine

📍Single dad
📍"Good boy"
This book has so much content and it comes together beautifully. Holt is a grumpy goalie for the Storm, struggling with the end of a relationship and finding out he's now a dad. Rebecca is the team's new physical therapist. Both are dealing with past pains and learning to trust again.

The more I read, the more I fell in love with Holt. He went from closed off to learning to rely on his friends and teammates, struggling to find love and putting himself and his needs last because he felt he wasn't worthy of love.

Rebecca has a hard time opening up to people. She wants to make friends in her new town but isn't sure how to do that while maintaining her professionalism. Luckily the other women around the Storm don't give up on her and take her into the family.

There is a third act breakup, but fortunately it lasts less than 24 hours so, as a reader, your heartbreak for the characters is short-lived. Other than this very short blip, you will fall in love with Holt and Rebecca. This is my favorite book in the series!

I’ve always had a soft spot for single dad romances, and this one had plenty of sweet moments I enjoyed. That said, I do wish the story had been fleshed out more—particularly the relationship development between Holt, Becca, and Hazel. There were a sizeable amount of opportunities exploring the MCs growing emotional connection, but I was left with wanting more, especially when living in close proximity.

For a broken goalie and a physical therapist both carrying heavy pasts, the closure came a little too easily imo. While their struggles were alluded to often, the resolution felt rushed and lacked the emotional build-up I expected. That said, I appreciated the slow-burn approach to their romance (even with an early kiss), and the story didn’t rely on smut to drive the emotional core—which felt right for this kind of narrative.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read, but I was left wanting a bit more depth as much of it felt told rather than shown.

Thank you to Marissa James and team for the ARC!
