I was sent to spy on him. To marry Domenico Rossetti, the heir to New York’s most feared crime family, and destroy his empire from the inside. I was trained for this. Raised on obedience, lies, and quiet survival. So I smiled. Promised loyalty. Played the perfect wife. All while feeding intel to the man who truly owned me—my father. But I didn’t expect Dom. He’s cold. Controlled. Lethal. And the only man who’s ever looked at me like I was more than a pawn. The deeper I sank into his world, the harder it became to keep mine. And when the final betrayal came, I had to make an impossible My family—or the man I was never supposed to love.
Domenico
I knew Besiana Dushku was dangerous the moment I saw her. Too composed. Too perfect. Too careful. A woman raised on secrets, handed to me in marriage like a gift wrapped in blood. I let her into my house. My family. My empire. And I gave her access to the one thing I shouldn’t have—Iride, the designer drug that could make us unstoppable. She says she’s loyal. But I know better. Beneath her beauty is strategy. Behind her smile, calculation. And yet, I can’t stay away. Because every time she defies me, I want her more. Every time she lies, I need the truth. And if she’s playing me—if this whole marriage is a game— She’s about to find out I don’t lose.
Pfff. Where to start! First, how can the author write so delicately about surroundings, in a very poetic way, but the love story between Dom and Besa so unbelievably bleak and shallow! I’m just, confused!
Things like regret is the fragrance I keep smelling in this room, which is gorgeous! But then you want to tell me that Dom (who is the Alpha of the fam) is in love within three days?! That he’s not capable to function in his role because she is in his mind. That 24/7 he wants to crack her. Stuff like that makes me ick! I mean I’m a firm lover of (dark) romance and I don’t mind some unrealistic views on love stories and also don’t mind some predictables! But this was just not right.
Work with time jumps, instead of this story being played in what; 2 months? Pfff
Good cute ending as it should with a hint to new brother who’s going to be in love.
This story definitely could have been written better, with more depth and more layers in a slower and more believable pace.
Another great Rosetta read from Pia. Dom needed a strong partner and got that in Besa! Besa needed protecting from her own, even though she didn’t realize it until it was almost too late. Loyalty, betrayal, hate, love, and questions! So many questions!
