To start, I believe this is the first memoir I’ve ever read. It’s also the first book about birding I’ve ever read. Early in the book, the author explains that he is not the most eloquent writer. While this does stand true, it is evident that the author is passionate about the benefits of birding, and that it brings people together, no matter the background, religion, or other interests. In reading this book, my favorite parts were the unique travels and light-hearted moments that brought a smile to my face, despite my lack of birding experience.
I just published this book so I’m biased. It was released on Amazon today ahead of Earth Day. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
This book was just what I needed to enjoy as a nice beach read while I was birding in Ecuador. It was so fun to read about the adventures the author had while searching for birds, but the author also focuses on seeing the hand of the creator in the natural world around him. I loved reading about his challenges of "Birding on the side" while vacationing with nonbirders (something I have become very familiar with). I especially enjoyed the part about him trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to convert his wife to become a birder (another thing I was able to identify with). Reading about his adventures in other countries as he searched for his first 1000 birds got me excited to one day visit some of those same places. It also encouraged me to slow down a little and enjoy seeing the hand of God in the creation of the beautiful birds around me. Highly recommended for anyone who has even a passing interest in birds.
