Kidnapped & Captivated: A Not-So-Dark Romance

Darren didn’t mean to kidnap her.

He just wanted to get to know her. Her favorite movie, her favorite snacks. You know—normal things.

So when she came home unexpectedly and knocked herself out cold, he did what any socially anxious romantic with boundary issues would do.

He panicked.

Rose just wanted caffeine and a change.

Instead, she woke up in a stranger’s house with no idea how she got there—and the strangest day of her life just beginning.

Except Darren isn’t scary. He’s awkward. Honest. Weirdly considerate for a kidnapper.

And kind of… perfect?

Everyone says this is a red flag.

She thinks it might be fate.

A not-so-dark romantic comedy about accidental kidnapping, morally questionable love, and the bizarre ways we find our people.

Allie Beth is a devoted mom, a sarcastic overthinker, and a romance author who writes emotionally damaged chaos gremlins falling in love—and somehow making it work. She spends most of her time with her hands full of everything life could throw at her, but when inspiration struck, she finally turned her lifelong love of books into something of her own.
She writes not-so-dark romantic comedies with big feelings, bad decisions, and endings that always find their way to hope. She’s the kind of person who’d absolutely die in a zombie apocalypse because she’d stop to save a stranger, but she’d probably make you laugh on the way out.
She writes for the weird, crazy, hopeless romantics who just want a little chaos with their love stories. You are her people.

I’d definitely recommend for a light, sweet palate cleanser.

I rarely write reviews, but I had to for Kidnapped and Captivated by Allie Beth. I mean, how do you accidentally kidnap someone? I had to find out.

Rose and Darren are possibly the most awkward couple I’ve ever read, and their inner monologues in the beginning had me laughing out loud. Honestly, some of Rose’s thoughts felt like they came straight from my own brain. It even gave a little Lights Out nod, in a fun, referential way, without feeling like a copy.

The spice scenes were a little abrupt, but they still fit the tone of the story. That said, the relationship as a whole went beyond instalove. It was fast, intense, in a middle school crush sort of way, with borderline codependency and obsession. Not dark romance levels, but every emotion was dialed to eleven. The repeated “we’re so crazy” lines started to feel a little heavy-handed after a while.

The MMC also cried more than I expected, and while I appreciate emotional depth, it felt a bit overdone for the tone of the book. A more balanced arc would’ve made his vulnerability hit harder.

Still, there’s a unique charm to debut indie books, and this one had heart. It’s not perfectly polished, but the potential is there, and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for what Allie Beth does next.

Tropes & Vibes:
• Virgin hero
• Instalove
• Slight stalking misunderstanding
• Forced proximity (but make it cozy)
• Gamer/nerd MMC
• Introverted FMC
• Cinnamon roll with a little edge
• OTT obsession

First off, let me just say... this book is absolutely hilarious! 😂 I can't believe I waited so long to read it. I actually met the author at a book festival here in my town and bought these books, so I'm kicking myself for not picking them up sooner.

We have Rose—awkward, a little depressed, and constantly making self-deprecating jokes. Somehow she manages to make even her own misery hilarious.

Then there's Darren. He's awkward, unintentionally unhinged, and just as hilarious. Half the time he has no idea what he's doing, and that's exactly what makes him so lovable.

This story follows two adorably awkward people who are just a little bit crazy together, and somehow they fit perfectly. Watching their relationship grow while they stumble through misunderstandings, embarrassing moments, and their own awkward personalities was so much fun.

Let's be honest—we all have that one person who's just weird enough to match our weird, and that's exactly what Rose and Darren are. They're proof that sometimes the most imperfect people make the most perfect couple, and I couldn't stop smiling while reading their story.

This was an easy five-star read for me, and I'm so glad I finally picked it up!

Sweet intentions stalking?

This book was hilarious as it was awkward! I spent almost the whole book laughing! These two are unhinged in the most incompetent way! Darren is so oblivious it's favorable! How do you accidentally kidnap somebody and tie them to your bed but it was all for their benefit? 😅😂😂

And the side characters are gold!! the only way I can describe Blaire and Makenna are to imagine them as the angel and devil on your shoulders but they are both drunk and give you shady advice that may or may not help! 😂

This is one of the most underrated books ever.
It's really good and worth all the time. For me it was more like a palate cleanser because I read it after reading a dark book. I loved how the characters complimented each other after their first okward first meeting that led to weeks of stalking, also the "accidental kidnapping" of the fmc by the mmc. It hard so much humor that I was completely lost in it.

Inner monologues had me laughing out loud. Getting to know these socially awkward characters and them coming together was perfect. Would have completed in one setting if I didn’t have kids.

Definitely has all the teasing awkward humor. LOVED how both characters complimented each other. If you want a fast paced, he falls first, inexperienced guy romance then this is for you!

This book was cute! It was so funny, the characters couldn’t have been better. The ending was a touch conflict free but fiery in all the right places!
