Risky Business On a gloomy November afternoon, P.I. Frank Doy has an unexpected guest at his cottage in the old English mining village of Risky Point. Three mutilated corpses have washed up, and homicide cop Bill Peart wants his old friend's help. That night, as an icy storm batters the coast, a terrified stranger comes seeking refuge. Before Frank can find out who she is, she's gone.
Certain there's a connection between the dead bodies and his nocturnal visitor, Frank begins an unofficial search. A foreign yacht docked near the entrance to one of Risky Point's cliffside tunnels adds to the deepening mystery. And what's really going on at the new art center, rumored to be training the world's future painters? As Frank and gallery >^ owner Jac Pinklett uncover evidence of a criminal enterprise that could threaten national security, someone plots to turn them into collateral damage….
Throughout this second effort by Latus, the reader is left nonplussed and downright irritated at the hero's inexplicable and callow disregard for his friends in order to help two utter strangers. He gives not a whit for Jac and Jimmy, who could easily have been forewarned of their imminent peril. And it is painfully obvious that leaving them at the mercy of the enemy will make them easy trade bait. And who can believe that the thugs left Jimmy totally unscathed during their final assault? Frank's private investigator's licence should be revoked forthwith!
Another one of Dan Latus books that I could not put down. It is full of excitement. Brilliant. Just keeps you enthralled from beginning to end.
I have found in this author a person who stops you breathing just by reading the next chapter. I have lost sleep this week as I just cannot put the books down. Normally that happens when I read Connelly. Child or Rankin. Now I have another author to add to my favourite's list. Thank you Dan Latus.
Some of the unexpecteds aren't credulous.... so the book becomes an entertaining sorta spy story. Don't expect too much and it will be entertaining if not very deep
Down to earth action tale with a good mix of intrigue, descriptive language, and technical information. A well scripted landscape after the style of the masters.
In Latus’ mystery novel, when three mutilated corpses wash up on the shores of the old English mining village of Risky Point, P.I. Frank Day receives a visit from his old friend, a cop named Bill Peart asking for help on the case. Later that night, a terrified stranger comes seeking refuge and before Frank can discover who she is, she’s gone.
Convinced there’s a connection between the corpses and his nocturnal visitor, Frank initiates an unofficial investigation and uncovers a perplexing fact: the new art center, rumored to be training the next great painters, is in fact involved in a criminal enterprise that threatens national security, and they will do anything to achieve their goals including murder . Fast-paced thriller that will keep the reader hanging on till the end.
