Keith and Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music as modern hymn writers, international worship leaders, and conference speakers. Perhaps best-known for the modern hymn, “In Christ Alone” (written by Keith with Stuart Townend and performed by Keith and Kristyn), the Gettys have reinvented the traditional hymn form and created a catalog of songs teaching Christian doctrine and crossing the genres of traditional, classical, folk, and contemporary composition. Keith and Kristyn live between Northern Ireland and Nashville with their daughters, Eliza Joy, Charlotte, and Grace.

"Pippa and the Singing Tree" is a heartwarming treasure for families and young readers! This beautifully illustrated children’s book (great for ages 5–10) invites children to join Pippa through the seasons as she discovers the symphony of nature—robins, trees, and icy winds—all singing God’s glory. Moved by the beauty around her, Pippa adds her own voice to the chorus, teaching children the joy of worship through song. 🎵

Written by Grammy-nominated hymn writer Kristyn Getty and brought to life with stunning artwork by P.J. Lynch, (one of my favorite illustrators!) this story blends lyrical prose with a powerful message about answering Scripture’s call to praise. The special notes at the end, featuring some of Kristyn Getty’s favorite psalms with gentle calls to worship, makes it a perfect resource for families. 📖

💕 Why I love it: The rhythmic storytelling and brilliant illustrations capture children's imaginations, while the theme of creation’s song inspires both young and old to lift their voices in worship. It’s a delightful mix of fun, faith, and learning!

🍂Perfect for: Anyone looking for a meaningful picture book that encourages children to connect with God through nature and song.

This picture book celebrates God's creation and the joy of worshiping through song. Kristyn Getty, a well-known Christian singer and songwriter, partnered with illustrator P. J. Lynch to create this beautiful book. The text is lyrical and flows well, and it includes onomatopoeia, representing the sounds that a child's favorite tree makes. The story conveys that the tree and the surrounding birds are worshiping God, and shows how the little girl joins in with her own song. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, both in the depiction of nature and of human characters. I love the visible joy that radiates from the little girl's face.

At the end of the book, there are a few pages with the author's reflections for parents and caregivers. This section speaks more about the importance of worshiping through song, and includes some Bible verses on the subject. As a whole, this book is more of a teaching tool than a story. There isn't much of a plot, but the poetic writing style and outstanding illustrations make up for that. The illustrations are breathtaking and full of stunning details, and they show the transition from winter to spring.

This is a lovely book that Christian families will appreciate. The book celebrates the joy of glorifying God while connecting with nature, and I recommend this for families, churches, and Christian schools. This is a wonderful example of faith-based children's literature that is artistically excellent and shares a profound message.

I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

"One frosty morning wee Pippa swings high, beneath an old tree and a peppermint sky."

This book is stunning in both word and art! I would dare say this is the most beautiful picture book of 2025!

"And what is the song she and the tree bring? Their praise to the Lord, who taught them to sing of him who makes known his way and his word; in all he has made, his voice can be heard."

The story of sweet, wee Pippa learns to sing the song of creation as she explores God's beautiful world. The author includes a special note in the back for families, encouraging families to read and sing the "hymnbook in the middle of the Bible," the Psalms.

🩵 Singing is Praise to Our Savior - Ps 95:1
🩵 Singing is a Good Fit for Us - PS 147:1
🩵 Singing is for Today and Forever - Ps 104:33

"Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD..." Psalm 96:12-13

💭 When I saw PJ Lynch illustrated this book, I knew it was a must-have. Illustrations are a big deal in our home. And the poetical text, is absolutely lovely! My review does not do this book justice.

Pippa and the Singing Tree is a charming picture book radiating with warmth and wonder. Through its enchanting rhyming verses and stunning full-page illustrations, the story beautifully captures the majesty of God and His creation, highlighting the blessings of beauty and grace we receive daily.

I adore everything about this book. Its simplicity, gentleness, curiosity, and the awe it inspires for even the smallest blessings we often overlook. Pippa’s appreciation and joy in these little blessings inspire readers to sing for joy in worship of our Creator and to marvel at His incredible creations.

The book closes with Scripture verses and reflections for parents as they and their children join in this melodic and magnificent story song of praise.

“The Lord, the Song-Maker,
calls everything ‘round.
As Pippa is list’ning,
she soon finds her sound.

And with her next breath,
songs bloom like the spring,
because, like the bird,
God’s made her to sing.”

🌿 “Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord…” Psalm 96:12-13

Oh, how I love hymns. And when I saw that hymn writer Kristyn Getty had written a new children’s book, I knew it needed a place in our home.

With lyrical writing and gorgeous illustrations, Pippa and the Singing Tree invites little ones to join in with all creation and worship the Lord through song and praise. I especially appreciated the sweet note from Kristyn at the end, where she encourages families to explore the Bible’s hymnbook, the Psalms, and even shares three verses from her favorites that help teach us how and why we sing to the Lord.

This was such a delightful read—joyful, faith-filled, and perfect for planting seeds of faith and wonder in young hearts. A lovely addition to any home or church library.

Pippa and the Singing Tree by Kristyn Getty is a lyrical book for children with beautiful watercolor illustrations by P. J. Lynch.

This hardcover book has a dust cover and is 8 1/2 inches square. It is 40 pages long and aimed at children ages 5 to 9. I think it works for children a little older to listen to as well as there is a lot to think about in this lovely book.

Pippa is swinging in the tree on a late winter's day as there is a robin singing. We don't get robins until nearly spring where I live. I thought the prose was lovely--rich and full of description of Pippa's full heart for God and creation. At the end of the book, there is a message for families about how God calls us to sing. Then there are 3 pages with Bible verses that talk about singing and some explanation. This book is definitely aimed at Christian families or speaking to those open to Christianity.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through the Amazon vine program. All opinions within this review are my own.

Friends, this book is beautiful. The illustrations, the poetry. The colors! The language.

It begins in winter, as “wee Pippa”swings high in a tree, listening to the sounds around her: the wind, the leaves, raindrops, a robin.

And as all of Creation around her is declaring His glory, she joins in and lifts her voice in song of praise to the Lord. And as she sings her voice in song, spring breaks through.

This is a book we will be returning to over and over! I feel like every time we read it, we see more and appreciate the depth even further.
