Title: All You Want for Christmas
Author: David Platt
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

[I received a complimentary copy of this title. All opinions are my own.]

🗣️ “The utterly unique message of Christmas is that God has come to be with us—no other religion makes that claim.”

🗣️ “The God who created this world has come to us in Jesus to satisfy our souls.”

This new release from David Platt would be a great resource for any seekers in your life or a good reminder of the goodness and truth of the gospel during the Christmas season—and always. ❤️

This short book is under 100 pages and is divided up into four sections, not including the introduction and conclusion. The introduction asks, “Why did Jesus come?” The four sections to follow discuss four reasons Jesus came: to be with you, to die instead of you, to show you how to live, and to be your servant.

One criticism would be that this book did feel a bit “me-centered” in a way. Everything the author says is true—Christ came for us! He died for the Church! He came to serve and not to be served. YET, Jesus is God, worthy of all our praise, worship, devotion, etc, because He is God. The concern would be that we don’t want anyone to follow Jesus for what He can give but for who He is. I wished the author would have made that point a little bit more clear for seekers, perhaps in concluding remarks. However, we have an opportunity to expand on what’s written in this book, using it as the solid tool it can certainly be, and taking it further with God’s Word. In all fairness, this book is meant to be short and introductory and on the topic of Jesus fulfilling our deepest needs and desires. It is not a deep dive into theology and that’s okay. ❤️

Loved the gospel presentation and call to follow Jesus in the conclusion. 🙌🏻

Definitely recommend! I can absolutely see myself using this book and/or ideas from it to share the gospel this Christmas season. 😊

In All You Want for Christmas, David Platt presents four major reasons why Jesus came at Christmas.

At just about 80 pages, this excellent evangelistic book will bring the gospel to your friends and family. Platt explains that Christ came (1) to be with you, (2) to die instead of you, (3) to show you how to live, and (4) to be your servant. Platt is direct yet warm.

The Greatest News in the World

Platt shares stories from his own life to make the message personal. I was especially moved by his conversation with a Muslim Uber driver. It is the greatest news in the world that Jesus is God in the flesh, who loves you so much that he came to die for your sins.

Jesus meets our greatest longings. He is what our hearts hope for. All You Want for Christmas shares the clear, compelling message of the gospel as the greatest gift we can give and receive.

I received a media copy of All You Want for Christmas and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep

This is a fairly well-written gospel booklet to give out at Christmas. But it wasn't exactly what my husband and I are looking for. It was surprisingly "you" focused. Way more felt needs in the mix than we would have expected from David Platt. His bottom-line statement at the end of the book is that he's glad God is committed to him in every way. And a big theme in the book is that Jesus is our servant. Jesus did indeed come to serve... But it felt like this was over-emphasized in the book and made it way more about "you" than about Jesus.

I'm sure the Lord can use this book in many people's lives, and I'm thankful that it does contain a clear gospel message, but it isn't our choice for handing out this Christmas. We've gladly given out For Your Joy by John Piper and Christmas Playlist by Alistair Begg in past years. Still looking for something for this year....

Platt does a really delightful job introducing the gospel using four reasons why Jesus came: to be with you, to die instead of you, to show you how to live, and to be your servant. Using the framework of what you "really" want for Christmas, he winsomely shows how Jesus provides our deepest desires. With a hardback cover and attractive color pages inside, this book would be a great gift item to those you want to introduce to Jesus this Christmas!

This short hardback book would be a lovely gift to someone who has been investigating faith. I don't think it would be my first choice as a general gift to someone who hadn't expressed any interest in Christianity as it jumps straight into the gospel.
It's a very well put together gift with foiling in the cover and two tone coloured pages inside.

Why did Jesus come?
1) to be with you
2) to die instead of you
3) to show you how to live
4) to be your servant

This the outline for this wonderful little Christmas book by David Platt. “This picture - of God coming to be with us - is at the heart of Christmas.”

Christmas is still two months away, but as we begin to prep for the shopping, the planning, the celebrating, let us take pause to remember what we are celebrating - God made flesh. And that being born so He might die for us - that we might live with Him.

If you (or someone you know) is looking to understand further about this great story of Christmas and why Jesus came to earth, I highly recommend this book.
