Where The Sun Meets The Stars

Rate this book
Kyra who had once been just a starving human thief, is now a High Queen, sharing a Bond with a man made of shadows and secrets even he has yet to figure out, and she carries magic in her veins that no one can understand. War is coming, the world is falling apart, and everyone is looking to her to fix it.

Trick Michael, the High King of Nightmare, is ruthless, calculating, and terrifyingly powerful. He is also one of the few people Kyra can trust, even when she probably shouldn’t. Their connection runs deeper than soulmates, sealed by a magic assumed to be unbreakable, but with the shattering of the Eye of Orion, things that had seemed so unbreakable before, start to crack.

As Kyra and her new faithful friend, a dragon called Viserion, build a court out of broken people and unlikely alliances, she starts to realize how damaged this world truly is, and she vows to stop at nothing to fight for her people.

Betrayals cut deep. Loyalties are tested. And Kyra starts to lean in ways she never thought she would.

Sometimes, what this world needs is a villain. Just not the one we all believed it to be.

Excuse me, WHAT?!? I’m at a loss for words with this one.

So much happens in this story and I’m left with more questions than answers. I really need those answers!

On a lighter note, I love Viserion so much!!

I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

OMG !! What a world 🌎 I love this series … this is one of those big series that will leave you shook and will consume you so totally. I would fall asleep dreaming about this world and these characters. The other has truly immersed us so completely in this world and I wanna move there … we are now starting to get more answers in the story as it unfolds. … I knew a long time ago this author was one to watch but now you need to know it too .. dive into this world with Kyra battles to be leader the people need. Who can she trust? Who’s good? Who’s bad? …. DRAGONS 🐉 did I mention dragons !!

At a glance: Dragons, Self discovery, political tensions and incoming war, magic, gods, banter, Found Family.

"Being a monster is easy, being a hero is agony. You need to get used to that. You cannot be both.”

Trick and Kyra's story continues in Where The Sun Meets The Stars. After the Eye of Orion got destroyed, our characters had to regroup and fight an even deadlier battle along with some new allies. After that, we see our heroes dealing with the aftermath of that, and starting their own court among the growing tensions leading to this war. Secrets and betrayals, and an absolute monster of a cliffhanger had me in my feelings at the end of this one! I am absolutely chomping at the bit, because I just know it isn't true 😭 (iykyk)

ARC Review:

I honestly have no idea where to begin. I entered this series already being addicted to HG Johnston and her work, but this book had me in ALL of my feelings right from the beginning. I remember looking to my husband, with tears in my eyes saying, "This author deserves a spotlight like Rebecca Yarros and Sarah J Maas."

Kyra - once human, now has characteristics of all the species, has been damned if she did and damned if she didn't from the beginning. She has always been one to serve herself on a silver platter to save and protect others, mainly her brother for her 25 years of life, but now she finds herself in the position of more power than she knows what to do with, High Queen status, and more than loyal subjects. Her mate, Trick, is said to be all-powerful who she believes to be good, despite him demanding to be the monster in everyone's nightmares. He rules beside her, but moves quietly until he's needed to be loud and terrifying. If you like dragons, smut, dark vibes, shadow daddies, andddd shadow mommies, this one is definitely for you. But I will say, I stared at the wall for thirty minutes, almost crying, at the way this book ends. I will be screaming, crying, and throwing up for the next 3-5 business weeks. I'm SICK. Not everything is as it seems.

If you’ve read my other reviews of this series, you know that I keep on saying that it’s a lot (not in a negative way): lots of world building, of hidden links, plot twists and a diverse cast of characters that we follow. However, in this book, we’re building the tension; it’s steadily culminating to something I don’t know if we’ll recover from.

Kyra has come so far, she’s evolved tremendously. Once a starving thief to a grown woman trying her best to be the better version of herself, with her weaknesses and strengths. Building herself, building the world. Smashing the walls of her mind one by one so she can finally learn the truth about who she is, what she is, who her parents are. All the while entertaining new budding friendships. It’s been a tumultuous journey, to say the least.

The side characters have povs in the book, which is quite relevant, because we see the story unfolds from different, important perspectives. As I previously mentioned, The Archangel Chronicles is an intricate series. Now onto the third book, things are starting to make sense, while simultaneously creating a multitude of questions left unanswered.

I find myself surprisingly invested into the characters’ quests and feelings. I might have found the books thicker than preferred, but I feel like the next one will deservedly be so. That cliffhanger!? I cannot process it. I will not process it. I am devastated. It’s not even the end of the series yet.

HG Johnston, I’m sending you my therapy bills. Plural. Thank you so much for the arc!

Keywords: dark fantasy romance, trauma, abuse, court feuds, slow paced, dragon, secrets, lies.

There's a lot to unpack in Where the Sun meets the Stars and I will try to do it without handing out spoilers like candy.

First, you get to see a stronger more resilient Kyra Skye and we're closer to finding out what she truly is. She discovers more abilities along her journey of self discovery.

You get so see her and Tricks' relationship kind of disintegrate the longer you read the book. It'll be interesting to see where it goes in book 4.

We get to see a little more into the psyche of Trick and learn more about his meeting with The Order, while also still remaining completely in the dark about what was TRULY talked about.

Now, back to Kyra. She has a WHOLE backstory that we learn about in this book and why the Ircsh brothers are so invested in her. To say I was utterly mindblown is a complete understatement. We also get to take a look into Kyra's actual soul and we discover some very interesting tidbits.

We still get to see the POVs of Satarmore, Cole, Raymond, Meeria, and Talaroe while also getting new POVs from Raphael.

The ending. The last few chapters are utterly wild. A offensive blow, a major plot twist, two new characters, and an unlikely embrace.

I absolutely loved this story. The Archangel Chronicles just keeps getting better and better with every installment.

🌶🌶

🖤 Dark Romantasy
🥀 Shadow Play
🖤 Found Family
🥀 Gender-fluid representation
🖤 Villain Origin Story
🥀 On Dragon Activities 😉
🖤 Political Intrigue
🥀 Betrayal

Kyra and Trick are back with force in this third instalment of the Archangel Chronicles and boy oh boy is it action-packed full of battles, secrets unravelling, lust and betrayal!

Kyra finds herself on a journey like no other throughout this book, and new high queen with a bond now in place with Trick, they decide to create their very own safe place for anyone that needs it. Along with the search being in full force to find her brother as well, she also now has her very own dragon 😍 who she also bonds with, but whilst all of that is happening what is Trick up to?
Well, he has helped Kyra bloom of course, but we also see some secrets unravel 👀
And don't even get me started on a couple of massive battles that happen between those two and Evanora's group 😒
But will it end with all being as well as it seems between Trick and Kyra not to mention those they hold dear, or is something massive about to happen that could change EVERYTHING?

Where The Sun Meets The Stars releases August 5th 😘🖤

🌟Kyra is a compelling protagonist, marked by a classic underdog-to-queen arc. Her evolution from starving thief to High Queen wielding mysterious magic sets the stage for a heroine who’s both relatable and aspirational.
🌟Trick Michael, the High King of Nightmare (amazing title), offers dark, brooding energy that fans of morally gray love interests will devour. Their bond being “deeper than soulmates” immediately hooks readers looking for intense emotional and magical connections.
🌟The inclusion of Viserion, a dragon companion, and a court built of “broken people and unlikely alliances” suggests a beautifully messy found-family dynamic and rich character ensemble.
🌟The narrative hints at betrayal, shifting loyalties, and moral ambiguity—all the hallmarks of a gripping dark fantasy.

If you’re drawn to epic, slow-burn fantasy with heavy romantic tension, complex power dynamics, and a heroine straddling the line between savior and destroyer, this sounds like a great fit. It has emotional depth, moral grayness, and the promise of high-stakes betrayal.

This is my honest review in exchange for an ARC!

~ ARC Review ~

Why did I go into this series thinking it was a trilogy even though it's clearly written that it's a Chronicle? Meaning that there's more than three books! I was not ready for the twist at the end! WTF!?(In a traumatizing but good way)

That ending nearly on alive to me.

I really like that we got to see it different points of you from characters we hadn't gotten in the previous books. It was good to get a perspective of Trick's character from other characters and how that they feel about our FMC as well as their own inner battles.

Viserion is right up there with andarna for me now. His personality is amazing and I can't decide whether he's adorable hilarious or absolutely terrifying. Satarmore may just be my new favorite character in this entire series. His outlook on the world is comedic and he pretends to be so serious about it. I absolutely adore him.

I'm honestly still reeling from that ending, it was very unexpected. Like I knew something was up but what the actual hell? I don't know how I'm going to recover from this and I need to know when book 4 is coming out because holy FK.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️

Where the Sun Meets the Stars is the third installment in the Archangel Chronicles. I felt as though there was not as much action as the first two books; it’s more world building, war planning, and training. Kyra falls back into her insecurities at times and battles herself over how to be a “good” leader. She’s restless as everyone continuously tells her to wait to save her brother despite the new powers and dragon she has gained.

We learn a lot more about Kyra’s true family along with Satarmore, Penny, Meeria, and Nick. I absolutely love Satarmore’s sarcastic, and witty personality. He says what’s on his mind and holds no remorse if what he says offends someone.

H.G. always imparts powerful wisdom in her quotes and books. I enjoyed reading all of the Bible verses in each chapter.

“The only way to change the future was to learn from the past and if I was bitter about the past then there would be no learning.”

“It’s not about how many times you fall, but how many times you decide to stand back up.”

Old gods return and new powers rise as the whole continent prepares for war. The cliffhanger is absolutely shocking and I cannot wait for the next book.

The world building is amazing and the character development and growth are breathtaking but, I feel like we are just hitting how deep these characters can go.

Love, betrayal, action packed dark romantasy, that kept me on my toes page after page! Kyra is the epitome of a strong independent woman and a total badass too, but man she has been through so much!! Between the world building and character growth I really felt this story was everything! But I feel there is much much more to work through and find out about these beloved characters, especially with that cliffhanger! Why do you do this to me H.G.! This is book 3 in the Archangel Chronicles and is a total must read, heck they all are! Can’t wait until the next!!

WHAT?!?! SERIOUSLY, WHAT?!?!?!! I don’t even know what to say now……

The world building in this book is amazing and makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. Kyra is an absolute force, and I love her so much. The storyline of this book had me really invested right from the start, and definitely threw some twists at you to keep you guessing till the very end. And the end…again, seriously? You leave us like that, and we have to wait for the next book?!?!

If you enjoy epic fantasy, with fantastic world building, you should definitely Italy check this series out!

I was so happy to see this come into my kindle, I've been wanting to know after that last cliffhanger. I absolutely love Kyra’s character growth, how she learnt more about her magic as well as wanting to find her brother. With the help of her dragon that she bonded with. I enjoyed the pov’s of the other characters throughout the book. There was more action in this book compared to the first two in the series. I don’t want to believe that cliffhanger, it can’t be true. I need the next book asap.

So there are plot twists, and then there are plot shatterings/what the hell did I just read! That ending has absolutely blown my mind and I'm not going to be OK until the next one is out.

I loved seeing more of Kyra's growth as she leans in to her newly found role of High Queen, building her court and forming alliances.

We get to learn more about the supporting characters of the story and the histories that have made them who they are.

Book three in the series ends with an extreme cliffhanger that's going to spiral in my thoughts while I eagerly await the next book.

Omg we have a dragon. He is the cutest thing in this book. Our girl Kyra and her dragon Vis work on becoming one. Kyra also creates a new court called The Court of Guardians. We have betrayal, promise keep, promise broken, new characters come in just at the end of the book. A Big Cliffhanger!

I absolutely DEVOURED this book. As a big of a cliffhanger as book 2 left us on, this one is BIGGER and more devastating.

I loved how much Kyra really came into her own in this book. Her growth, not just in her powers but as a person were so beautifully written.

I also really enjoyed getting to see the story through the eyes of the others characters, not just Kyra, Trick or Cole.

And Satarmore? My freaking hero. His sarcasm and the joking attitude he has? My favorite.

I’m so excited to see where we go in book 4, even though this book ripped my heart right out of my chest.

“What is hope? Is it the stream of light drifting across the wooden floor in the middle of winter? Or the sound of a mama bird praising its baby for finally leaving the nest? I don’t know exactly what it is, what I do know is that it isn’t something we can touch, but rather something we feel in the very marrow of who we are.”

Book 3 in the Archangel Series and it’s everything I hoped for and so much more!!

We continue to follow Kyra on her journey to prepare for the upcoming war with Trick and the rest of the court. She also had a new addition to her arsenal.. a dragon. While she learns how to become a dragon rider, a partner with trick, a leader, a friend, she also has to learn how to navigate her always evolving powers.

Throughout this book we are relaxing Kyra can’t trust everyone she thinks she can and might be able to trust people she thought she never could. And what the heck was up with this cliffhanger… I audibly gasped and was trying to convince myself it was a lie.. so buckle up and enjoy the ride that is this book and series!!

Thank you H.G. Johnston for an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and opinion.

Kyra has everything to gain and everything to lose. Transformed after the trials that almost destroyed her, she’s come into her power and must learn how to use it. With the fate of the world—and her family—at stake, she must risk everything she holds dear.

I’ve loved every book in this series, and while this book wasn’t as dark (or as action-filled) as the first two, it still managed to pack an emotional punch. Watching Kyra grow into herself and struggle with what leadership meant was inspiring. Unconventional family dynamics were represented respectfully and in an interesting way. It was also nice to get perspectives from other characters and watch the world grow outward, setting up a really interesting sequel.

The writing was lyrical and understandable (like always). I enjoyed the discourse on philosophy and morals that blended well with the rest of the story. The subtle details left in quiet places were an absolute masterclass in foreshadowing. Some of the pacing could’ve been faster, but once the story got started, it sprinted to the very end.

Read if you like…
⭐Strong platonic relationships between different genders
🗡️Shadows that can turn corporal used in very… specific ways
⭐A dragon that acts like a housecat
🗡️Learning what hope is and how to fight for it
⭐A grumpy warlock who also happens to be a father
🗡️Leaders who understand collateral
⭐Incredible found family
🗡️Epic worldbuilding
⭐Dark and brooding love interest
🗡️Dangerous alliances
⭐Training montages (ft. magic and swordplay!)
🗡️Deadly deities pulling the strings behind the scenes
⭐Highly intelligent main characters
🗡️Honest mental health representation filled with hope
⭐Did I mention a kinky and more evil version of Rhys?
