“𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒖𝒏, 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒙?”
I was lucky to get the chance to read Two Chambered Heart by Rachel Olivia B. It’s not really my usual genre, but I appreciated her trust in sharing her debut with me. Since I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump, I figured trying something different might be just what I needed.
Now I was initially conflicted, how do I even review this one. It’s not something I usually pick up. I mean, it’s a dark romance. I don’t have much to compare it to, so for all I know, this could be totally unhinged or relatively mild (though definitely tamer than Haunting Adeline). For me? There were moments I wanted to bleach my brain.🫣😂 So seriously, read the trigger warnings.
So the story follows Corey, a girl trying to outrun her past. But instead of finding peace, she ends up trapped with twin brothers who are just as dangerous as the thing she’s running from. One’s cold and unreadable, the other is smooth and charming in the kind of way that should probably come with a warning label. Neither of them are good news and yeah, the MMCs are definitely toxic, but that’s kind of the whole point.
Like I've said, this is one of those reads where you really need to check the TWs. It leans into the darker side of romance: control, obsession, grief, survival, twisted loyalty, and enough spice to keep things complicated. There’s no pretending these characters are role models, but if you go in knowing it’s going to be messy, it makes for an intense, emotional ride.
Tropes include:
– Morally gray MMCs (yes, plural...Why choose!🫣)
- Multiple POVs
– Forced proximity
– Primal play
- Breath play
- Enemies to Lovers
– Found family, but the really damaged kind
Thanks again to the author, Rachel for the eARC. I wasn’t sure this would be my thing, but it surprised me in the good kind of uncomfortable way. This book drops this week, May 30th!So, if you’re in the mood for something dark, complicated, and just a little chaotic, this might be the one to jolt you out of a slump too.
P.S. How do you even choose between them? You don’t. Thankfully, it’s a why-choose… because I was ready to fail that test.
