Fae Kings of Eden #3

Tragically Yours

Rate this book
This is a standalone story in the Fae Kings of Eden world. Books 1-3 take place over the same time period, in different kingdoms, and revolve around different couples. They can be read in any order.

No one would take her from him, and if they tried, they would arrive in hell one piece at a time.

FAWN
Being half-human and half-fae had always made Fawn an outsider. Her only saving grace in the Human Kingdom was that she had no fae magic to fear. Until the day it manifested—fragile, flickering, but undeniably there. To humans, that made her dangerous, forcing her family to relocate to one of the four fae kingdoms.
Then tragedy stole everything she loved, leaving her hollow. Survival meant numbness, until Dean, the fae king of the Garden Kingdom, claimed she was his fated mate. He shattered her walls and touched the parts of her she thought were dead. He destroyed anyone who threatened her happiness—except his ex-fiancé, who reminded Fawn she was weak at every turn.

DEAN
Dean had known his mate’s name since he was thirteen. Feeling her on the other side of their bond kept him from his father’s darkness. Until he felt unimaginable agony, followed by nothing. They said she was dead, but his soul whispered otherwise, teasing him with shadows of her across a severed tie.
Duty shackled him to a political betrothal, condemning him to a life of unhappiness. While visiting a foreign kingdom, he felt her laugh from the table next to his. His obsession roared to life, more feral with each passing day. She was his, always had been. And he would carve a bloody path through anyone who threatened her.

But Fate was merciless, and to keep his mate alive, he couldn’t eliminate the one person who sought to steal him away.

Tragically Yours is a dual POV standalone fantasy romance with a romance heavy plot and simple world building. It is a fast-paced easy read. If you prefer your fantasy romance books to have a fantasy heavy plot, this book may not be for you.

Please note: The male lead does things that may be disturbing to some in the name of love (not to the female lead) if he feels his mate has been threaten or disrespected. Check the author's website for a full list of TW.

Not suitable for those under 18 due to mature language and situations.

I love writing unhinged fantasy romance, but I hate writing bios.

Any books posted on my goodreads shelves are books I loved! I judge a book by the vibes and emotions I felt when I finished.

BIG FAT SIGH
one of my most anticipated reads this fall turned into a massive disappointment.
especially after how much I ADORED book1, and book2 .

i don't even know where to begin.
first of all the romance, it made NO SENSE how easily magically fawn fell for a man she met 2 days ago and started getting jealous and mad.
same for Dean tbh, i get there's a mating bond but like it was stated so many times a mating bond means nothing without a solid relationship and we saw that in book2 .
unlike book 1 where Rinnick sent her letters and watched her through his familiar for 12 years and they bonded through the letters, and book 2 where they grew up together and have been bestfriends since early adolescence. the couple in this book have 0 foundation, 0 friendship, 0 chemistry.
he found her and boom they're obsessed with each other. the only thing in common they have is exhibitionism. 💀💀💀

now let's move on to the real flop of the book which is our manwhore Dean, our mmc thought his mate died so what does he do ? he turns into a slut and sleeps around with every woman he can while telling us about it, despite him being depressed over fawn, despite still feeling her occasionally and despite supposedly still " loving her ", this man flirted and slept with any girl that was willing even though he said none of it was satisfying. don't get me started on his so called " unhinged" behavior... in past books the mmcs were unhinged too but it was all to defend their girls.. this man was unhinged TO his girl, he fucking put her on a leash and WALKED her to lunch while holding it because she said she needed space, i thought it was humiliating in book2 from Violet's pov, but reading it in their own book? it was disgusting
Fawn wasn't any better tbh, she was boring, 2 dementional and was WAYYY more interesting in Amelia and Rinnick's book.
this bitch said that she was going to fight Cali for Dean when she thought he was cheating on her, GIRL STAND THE FUCK UP WHAT DO YOU MEAN FIGHT A GIRL FOR A CHEATER

now the ONLY reason i gave this 2 stars was because of Naomi and Naomi only, i spent the ENTIRE book being terrified about her being a villain and betraying Fawn but she was the best character ever tbh, an amazing friend, so fiercely protective of fawn.

the owd was so fucking annoying and unncessary ???? the plot to keep her around was so fucking stupid wtf? why couldn't lilith just fucking tell Dean Samuel's plan and he could literally just kill him he's the fucking king.. it was just cheap and making the ow a good misunderstood person at the end was even worst💀💀 she was a catty bitch the entire book and now she's suddenly a girls girl? give me a break.

The owd has been entertaining in previous books but this one made me boil, specifically because dean was a dumb hoe. the only thing that saved him was that he never fell in love with her nor slept with her.

safety:
- safe
- cheating : slight two timing but the intention wasn't to cheat or two time. he just haven't had time to break up with his fiancé before finding his mate but he did lie to the fmc about it.
- a HALLUVA of owd from his ex fiancé whom he never loved nor slept with, it was a political arranged engagement.
-no omd which is VERYYY disappointing considering how annoying the owd was and how much details we got about his past.
- no virgins, both experienced.
- no explicit ow sex scenes but alot of unncessary details about his sex life at the beginning, and one scene of the mmc flirting with ow and describing how turned on he is by her body ( before the mmcs met as adults).
- both celibate for a few months before meeting .

feel free to ask in the comments about any safety details that i might have forgotten to mention.

i got an early E-arc from the author, so thank you Jamie and happy release day 💙
now i'll start impatiently counting the days for Amos and Clover's book😭😭

i'm being generous with 3 stars.
i didn't understand this book.
i don't know if i'm disappointed because i expected Obsessively, yours and Viciously yours type of dedicated MC, but this one did not work for me.
Dean was MEH, there was no devotion from him, no angst, despite the entire story being built on him thinking she was dead. again idk if it's because the last book was very sad and angsty to me. ( Roman and Violet still #1)
Fawn was painfully uninteresting, and not at all like she was described in Rinnick and Amelia's book. she barely had a personality, and the girl was ready for fight another woman for Dean's love despite thinking he was having an affaire, GIRL STAND UP.

Amos PLEASE DO NOT DISAPPOINT ME.

The streets are saying… LISTEN TO ME CAREFULLY JAMIE, I’LL ONLY SAY THIS ONCE: GO BACK TO YOUR VALUES. I DON’T CARE IF YOU LOVE OW DRAMA, I DON’T CARE IF IT EXCITES YOU TO WRITE ABOUT IT, DAMN IT, USE A PEN NAME AND DO IT, BUT DON’T SCREW UP THIS SERIES FOR ME.
If we’re getting ow, we deserve double the om!

This pains me but I was disappointed. I LOVED books 1 and 2. Both easy five star reads to me. But I just did not enjoy this one as much. It feels incomplete. I did not feel connected to either the FMC or MMC. Idk. This felt like a crumb compared to the feast that was Obsessively Yours. (286 pages vs 448 pages).

Renncik cut his skin off. Roman branded her name on his neck. And Dean did… nothing?

Thank you to the author for the ARC. 🖤

Well, this was tragically underwhelming and the worst one out of the series. Really disappointed. So far away from what the first two were. I didn't care for any of the characters. Both MMCs are promiscuous and exhibitionists. I didn't feel any real emotion other than lust and compulsiveness. Author really dropped the ball on this one. How Dean is ok with public sex and his mate's nudity isn't quite understandable and a far cry from who Rennick and Roman were. Anyone saw their mates naked they would have had their head's chopped off. I prefer my fae men to act that way. Dean's character wasn't even dark like the author was trying to pull off, and Fawn's character was beyond annoying. Seriously what happened? As far as the plot goes Dean thought his mate Fawn died. She was just really good at hiding her emotions. 🙄 Both were basically sluts without the author using that word. Fawn worked in the pleasure house as a stripper basically and could be occasional sex worker. I wasn't clear on that. But Dean had zero problems with that. Which I'm not a fan of. Fated mates? Yeah, not really. I thought she was going to start dancing naked for the whole kingdom. Including in front of children. These two gave no fucks. Anyways, it was a complete letdown and I'm tempted to give it two stars. 👎 Hope the next book puts us back on track.

Thank you to the author for the ARC :)

I loved the previous books in this series and rated them 5 stars, so this was a highly anticipated read! Unfortunately, I'm disappointed to say that it didn't meet my expectations.

The MMC (Dean) didn't have the same charm or witt as the guys in the previous books, and his personality was shallow. I didn't even feel much of his love or devotion towards the FMC (Fawn), which is a shame because that's the main point of the series.

Once they meet, Dean doesn't spend much time convincing Fawn to follow him back to his kingdom and I was surprised she made the quick decision to go with him as she had been betrayed in the past. Even once they were in his home, their relationship felt under-developed and rushed despite them being together all the time.

The MCs' separate stories and personalities were more interesting before their actual meeting. The overall plot was messy and lacked the fun that was present in the previous books.

Tragically Yours is the third book in The Eden Series by Jamie Applegate Hunter, and I devoured it in a single day! I absolutely loved this one, although Viscously Yours still holds the top spot for me, this installment pulled me in with its rich characters and immersive world. The story gave me strong adult fairytale vibes, a dark, grayish romantasy threaded with a background of thriller like mystery. The characters were fantastic (though I’ll admit, Fawn tested my patience at times, bratty to say the least), and the overall pacing and twists made this impossible to put down.
One of my favorite aspects of this series is that each book works beautifully as a standalone. You don’t need to read them in order but I highly recommend diving into all of them to fully appreciate the layered world building and unique characters.

3.75⭐️ i’ve said it before and ill say it again: these books are like if CR Jane’s Pucking Wrong hockey boys were fae. it truly is that level of insanity and foolishness… plus a little magic on the side lol

while i still had a fun time, this is probably my least favorite of the three so far. and in all honesty im not surprised considering im not a huge fan of tropes like OW drama or miscommunication. I WILL SAY !! the miscommunication was, in fact, warranted. he ~literally~ couldn’t tell her certain things, and it did help move the plot forward but obviously it was annoying as the reader since we got to experience both POVs… i just wanted to ease Fawns highly warranted anxieties.

now… as far as the OW drama- that was also just irritating. he was a good boy and nothing nefarious or unforgivable happened between him and OW butttttt like i said it was just like listening to nails on a chalkboard every time her name popped up on my kindle lol. i really just wanted Fawn to snap her neck and get it over with. AGAIN it did indeed serve a purpose and everything for sure made sense in the end, it just wasn’t as fun as it could’ve been if the OW just kicked rocks from the get go, ya know?💀

i’m still going to read the last book in the series of course, bc this is just a brain candy/turn your brain off kind of book that keeps me from getting into a slump bc it’s so easy to read. one thing i will say is that i wish these were longer !

Thank you to Jamie & her team for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review:)

Jamie Applegate Hunter’s books are the kind of books that are highly addictive. There’s no soft stop to stop the book if you need a break from reading, the storyline is fast paced and sucks you in until the very last page.

While the storyline is more romance than work building, I find the balance just perfect enough that allows you to easily understand how this world runs.

Suspense, spice, adventure, romance, and wit. It’s all here.
I really have zero nit picks about any of her books set in this world. I love her alpha heroes and sassy heroines.
I am obsessed with the unhinged obsession these men have for their mates!

“Her joy often held his darkness at bay.”

If you want romantasy without the long drawn out politics and world building - it’s here. 5 stars for Dean and Fawn. 💛

This is the type of book people have in mind when they say tik tok books are bad and are poorly written. It was okay until they started having s*x in public, even if they’re glamoured to look like other people, it was cringe x100. Dean was unhinged and not even in a good way. There was so much potential there with the plot but it just wasn’t executed well. Characters were all bland, the writing and plot was severely lacking. The world building was there but it wasn’t interesting. Character motives at the end literally had me saying ”WHAT?!?!” out loud. I liked Fawn until the end, like girl be for real… This book was my reminder of why I don’t read “other woman drama” books, it was annoying and didn’t fully make sense and wasn’t written in a way that didn’t make me absolutely hate it.

(Spoiler?) The epilogue was literally their kid throwing up and then Dean almost throwing up because of it, while their other kids threw horse sh*t on each other… If this book was any longer I would have probably dnf it.

More bigger spoilers: Okay im not done.
Fawn was a strong fmc with actual thinking skills and grounds to stand up for herself the entire book. Then at the end she sees her mate kissing his ex and literally hearing about him deceiving her and she thinks “I’m gonna fight for him because he loves me too.” HUHHHH?!?!?!

Cali telling the Serpent to kill Emi was wild. That’s her sister, idc if she was acting crazy, there’s no way that made sense.

Deans moms excuse for faking Fawns death when they were 14 was so dumb. “You can’t marry a maid” ok Fawn wasn’t a maid till she was older soooo why fake her death when she was 14??

These books are always such a wild, unhinged time and I am 100% here for it always.

Tragically Yours follows our Garden King Dean as he searches for his fated mate Fawn who he thinks has died when they were younger.

Dean is fiercely loyal, charming and deeply deeply unhinged for those he loves. Our man has gone through some things. Fawn is a breath of fresh air.. she is strong willed, dedicated and protective of people she loves.

I am obsessed with Jamie’s writing - minimal world building, beautifully flawed characters, spice that lives in my head daily and all in all, Jamie doesn’t take herself too seriously so it’s such a joy to experience as a reader.

Tragically Yours will be out 30th September.
Thank you for the ARC read - can’t wait for everyone to meet Dean and Fawn.

I literally live for this series. A new one comes along and I’m begging for the ARC, reading it in half a day and acting like a fool the entire time.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Tragically Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Fae Kings of Eden character series. Book 3.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Fantasy romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Fated mates, strangers-to-lovers, he thought she was dead, exhibitionism, possessive, morally gray hero.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Dean learned Fawn’s name from the fates when he was 13, but was devastated to learn she died before they could meet. A decade later he sees her across a crowded room, and refuses to leave her side again.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This right here is my fantasy niche. And people can judge me for it, but JAH is wholly unserious and I adore it.

There’s limited world building and a ton of modernesque language, but there’s also incredible characters who make you laugh at the best times, spice that’s off of the charts, and some of the most unhinged plot lines ever.

Seriously, I’d like to live in JAH’s head for a hot second, because it’s utter chaos.

Dean and Fawn’s book was a great next step in this journey. It can be read as a complete standalone if you just want to dive right in. You can expect an ultra possessive, and sometimes morally dark grey hero, a heroine who always tests him, and spicy scenes that aren’t going to leave your brain for quite sometime. I can’t shout about this series enough.

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m sad. I LOVED the previous 2 books so much. Roman and violet are God tier for what I want in my MC’s. But this? Dean was so lacklustre. Like the possession, devotion and their chemistry was a significant dive from the previous 2 couples. I’m legit so disappointed because I LOVE this author and her writing is soo good. But this couple? Yeah they definitely lacked the good good vibes. This book is missing that burn the previous ones had.
Also wasn’t a huge fan of the religious themes (Lilith, Cain, Abel ect) but that’s just personal preference.
What I loved: Jamie knows how to spin a story, she’s got fantastic talent at making everything blend beautifully, it’s fantastically paced and I just love her writing style.
There were a few legit funny scenes that I really enjoyed… Tarantulas for the win!
Overall 3 ⭐️ which breaks my heart but I have to be honest. I still CANNOT wait for the next one and I just hope it brings back the epic chemistry between MC’s.

And another one! Giving five stars to Jamie’s books is now the standard. She just can’t write something I don’t love!

I wanted unhinged Dean to be accepted and loved with his crazy side first and it was delivered. This man was possessive, obsessive and couldn’t breath when she wasn’t near. He could accept his wrongs but I didn’t even think he was wrong lol. He had such a sad childhood and to find his happiness and lose it, heartbreaking. But the way he saw Fawn and knew he wasn’t letting her go ever, swoon. Need more selfish MMCs that are NOT letting anything between them and what they need.

Fawn was a bad bitch and I loved her backbone, her rawness and honesty and how she defended herself and her choices to anyone that dared question them. Seeing her fall in love, trust and find confidence with Dean was magical. I couldn’t get enough of her humor, her pet and her friendships. The found family was lovely and I might need a novella on Monroe and Brad…(pls Jamie I’m begging!!)

The spice was filthy and I was blissfully enjoying it. The exhibitionism was new and I was pleasantly surprised. This king wanted everyone to know he had the baddies and he could satisfy her throughly. BUT the emotional side was taken care of too, so the perfect balance to truly make it feel like they were in love was achieved.

And I don’t care what Jamie says about this not having a real plot, I was invested, intrigued and didn’t see something’s coming at all. She underestimates how well she writes because this baby had everything.

I fear this series stays superior and I just know Amos is going to be the cherry on top…like double Vs!? YES PLS!!!

Jamie, thank you so much for this e-arc, you probably knew I would have perished without it early…

Quotes:

With every inch she revealed, he vowed to forsake the gods and worship her until the day they died. Even then he'd kneel at her altar in the beyond.

You kill one man and cut out a few tongues and suddenly you're "unstable."

"We'd love to stay and chat, but I need to fuck her again, and that little chair won't cut it."

"I'll love you for eternity. Not even death will stop me."

I really enjoyed Tragically Yours. Having read the previous Fae Kings of Eden books, this one was another strong addition to the series. The fated mates connection is clear from the start, but circumstances keep them apart for a long time, making their eventual meeting intense and compelling. The chemistry between the characters is raw and emotional, and their struggles with trust and vulnerability add depth to the romance. Overall, it’s a dark, passionate fantasy romance that kept me engaged from start to finish.

The perfect mixture of tragedy and unhinged comedy.

Tragically Yours has every single feature that makes Jamie's books irresistible. Deep and poignant stories with enough spice, puns, and romance to create the perfect blend of romantasy. By constructing a not-overly-complicated and well-explained world filled with diverse characters, the narrative focuses on an action-packed couple with a cozy background.

Fawn was a very interesting narrator. Free of inhibitions regarding her sexuality. Headstrong and even bratty in a fun way, she manages to present a fun inner monologue that at times we forget she is being threatened constantly. Dean, on the other hand, seems hyperaware that he might lose his mate again and feels almost lost in the narrative. As a result, I feel there is a part of him that we were never shown in this book.

Moreover, the additional aspect that this book offered to the whole series with the introduction of Lilith was beautifully done. To me, it was very intriguing and contributed to the "tense atmosphere" from Dean's point of view but also added a new depth to the bigger storyline of the series.

If I could "change" or complain about something, it would be the recycling of the same tropes. All three of the books in this series have similar motifs: another woman drama, difficulty of finding their mate, and miscommunication. I wasn't pleasantly surprised with this installation... regardless of the fact that I enjoyed reading it and even laughed out loud.

DAMN CAN I TALK ABOUT DEAN AND HIS TEACHING TECHNIQUE.... YOU TOOK RIDING TO ANOTHER LEVEL MY DUDE...ALSO... EXHIBISM????REALLY??? AT LEAST YOU USED YOUR POWERS FOR FUN...

Tragically Yours was everything I wanted and more. I love how Jamie Applegate Hunter tied this story back to characters and events from the earlier Fae Kings of Eden books. I had almost forgotten who Fawn was until I had that “aha” moment—and then I was hooked all over again.

Dean completely stole my heart. He went through so much, with people conspiring to make him believe his mate was gone, and my heart absolutely broke for him 💔. I think it only made him appreciate Fawn all the more when they were finally together. His unhinged, over-the-top protectiveness was equal parts sweet and feral, and when he turned filthy… whew. 🔥 Let’s just say the tavern scene lives rent-free in my head. The chemistry between Dean and Fawn was off the charts, and the intimate moments were both passionate and tender in the best way. For the spicy scenes, I’ll never look at horseback riding the same ever again 😳😂.

I also found myself relating to Dean in so many hilarious ways. Let’s just say there were moments where I was thinking, “Yep, me too,” without giving anything away 😅. As always with Jamie’s writing, there were laugh-out-loud moments alongside emotional beats that hit hard.

This story is billed as romance-forward with lighter world-building, and it delivered exactly that. It’s fast-paced, addictive, and impossible to put down. My only complaint is that it ended too soon—I could have happily read another 200 pages of Dean and Fawn.

Tragically Yours is a wild, romantic, and spicy standalone that fans of fated mates and obsessive fae kings are going to devour.

As for me and my house, we ride hard for the Fae Kings of Eden

Someone said where’s the yearning? It’s right here:
“Maybe I am losing my mind.
Maybe madness is just what love looks like when it has nowhere to go.”

The man literally said ⏸️ I know I have a fiancé (for political reasons) and I know I was told my mate is dead but let me keep looking just in case!?

These two are different from the first three couples but I loved them both as they are.

Dean is every bit over the top obsessive and possessive, exactly what I like to see! And Fawn is definitely more of a spitfire than I anticipated and I enjoyed her character a lot.

If you’re not a fan of OWD, you may not enjoy this but I will say I usually am not a fan WHEN he entertains it - in the case of this and the other books in this series, he does not at all entertain the other woman.

Thank you so much to Jamie and her team for the ARC 🥹 I am on the edge of my seat for Amos and Clover!!

This was a really cute, easy read. It was very fast-paced, but I quite enjoy that from time to time, when I just want to sit down and feel some good vibes and love. I liked Dean, he was charming, but also quite cocky, but that kind of cocky that is a bit sexy. If I were Fawn, I'd be whisked away by him, too. I also liked Fawn, in that she was half human, and she felt like she wasn't enough, but she wasn't going to let anyone push her around and make her feel less. Half human or not, she still put her mate in his place when he needed it! I liked her sass, too. I loved Dean's familiar Cassandra; she has a dry, witty humour, and she made me laugh many times.

I hope you're a good man. Because if you're not, I'll have no problem burying you beneath a pile of shit where you belong.

We're mind linked. I hear what you hear.

Can you read?

I'm going to break your ribs when you return home. No I cannot read.

No one would take her from him, and if they tried, they would arrive in hell one piece at a time.

I love this unhinged standalone series!

Tragically yours follows Dean and Fawn, two fated mates separated by Kingdoms and lies.

Jamie Applegate Hunter does such a great job taking a tragic situation and turning into a dark rom-comesque vibe. I loved just how obsessively great Dean was and just how unfazed Fawn is when she sees his darker side.

Although this book takes place is a fantasy wold, the story itself is romance forward which is such a welcomed change in pace from epic world building. I loved diving right into Dean and Fawns story. JAH takes us through their ages and shows how their tenuous bond forms and grows over time.

If your looking for a fast paced romantic fantasy, that’s unhinged in the best ways, then you need to check this out!
