Sooo heartwarming and endearing. Heath and Lexi’s story was sweet, hot and just everything. I loved the sister bond between Lexi and Ash. How it developed over the book with everything to really make this a soul warming read. Great road trip vibes, healing the soul, finding yourself and finding how to live your best life. I found myself just really enjoying the vibes and banter between Heath and Lexi. He respected her boundaries, and really knew how to wear her down in the best most sweetest possible way. Overall just such a great read.

Third Person Narrative | MF Closed Door Romance

This is my first book of Jill Shalvis that I’ve read and I was really excited as she has so many with decent reviews. With this being “Sunrise Cove #8” I wanted to make sure whether I had to read the other 7 in the series first. I found out that you can read Jill Shalvis's books in any order because they are written as stand-alones. However, if you like reading series you can read them in order and enjoy cameos from characters in other books.
I really was looking forward to this book. I love a good cozy romance and with huge character growth and challenging family dynamics. However, I hate to say it but I DNF’d it at 80%. I started the New Year vowing that I wouldn’t force myself to power through to finish a book that was a lost cause just because I felt guilty or felt that I owed it to the author. I have also been trying not to give away 5 stars so quickly too and actually give helpful, honest critique. And believe me, I really tried finishing the book here. I really did. Especially with how promising the author’s star ratings are for other books. I paused and re-read pages several times just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things and going crazy.
There were too many confusing, inconsistent, irrelevant details for my liking.
For starters: It wasn’t clear right away how the sisters were related. I’m actually still not entirely sure even after going back for clarity. And personally I didn’t think this was a book where I would have to highlight details and reference back complex information in order to keep up with the storyline (like when I dive into world-building books I am 100% prepared to have to do that. Cozy romance? Not so much).
The timeline is also unclear: It is mentioned that Lexi and Heath were childhood friends, going to school together, and Heath’s grandpa lived right behind Lexi. But then it goes on to also say “He actually didn’t know much about her childhood in this house other than the few tidbits Ashley and Daisy had doled out over the years.” If Heath and Lexi were such good friends growing up, wouldn’t he know about her childhood?
Additionally, the apparent traumatic memory of her childhood that had her resenting her mom the rest of her life was because her mom forgot to pick her up from school one day. That just seems a bit dramatic to me.
This is also apparently a nemesis-turned-crush but other than some teasing in elementary school, I’m not really sure where their tension comes from? Why did they despise each other in school other than they were both competitive and that’s what boys and girls do sometimes when they like each other?
And when Lexi and Heath kissed at Ashley’s graduation and she immediately assumed the worst because he “had a horrified reaction on his face.” You know what could’ve cleared that up real quick? Communicating! But instead they continued to bring out the worst in each other and be jerks whenever Lexi visited.
Next, with the inconsistency: in one scene, it is said: that Lexi “was in a little summer dress that showed off her long legs, a fitted, cropped jeans jacket, wedge sandals on her feet.” But then a few pages later still in the same scene, she’s having trouble getting out of her jeans and t-shirt because she’s all wet.
Also, with the staple gun and glass paperweight baseball and Vinny. That information was inconsistent, and also Ashley introduced herself to him, a MOB BOSS, by HER FULL NAME, left a check with address information and then Lexi staples him in the balls and they run and aren’t worried?!
Lastly, the spice and sex scenes were absolutely pathetic and weak. There was definitely potential there.
I know I read an unedited version but man this was just all over the place, amateur, and poorly written.

Thank you to Hambright and Jill Shalvis for the ARC I received of The Love Fix.
I'm going to preface this whole review by saying I read this book over Father's Day weekend and my father and the heroine's mother have a lot in common. I cannot divorce my personal experience from this review. It's going to get messy. You've been warned.
Lexi Clark is coming home to Sunrise Cove for the first time in years at the behest of her stepsister, Ashley. Lexi moved away when she was a kid to live with her father after he got custody of her due to her mother's gambling addiction and neglect. But her father also wasn't a great parent, ignoring Lexi and providing the bare minimum. When she arrives back in Sunrise Cove, she's confronted by sunny Ashley and her childhood rival Heath Bowman, with a project dictated in her late mother's will. A year after her death, Lexi's mother wanted her and Ashley to deliver letters and money she won playing the lottery to individual people over the course of six weeks. Lexi would rather be lit on fire than deal with her mother's business for that long but there is the potential for a payout at the end which would help since she is currently unemployed and struggling. So she agrees to stay and fulfill the terms of the will even if it means she has to confront unpleasant memories and truths.
So I was raised by an alcoholic, neglectful and abusive father who had custody of me and my brother until I was 13-years-old and I walked out and went no-contact. So as I was reading this book, I knew exactly what Lexi had been through. I recognized all of her coping mechanisms (hello hyper-independence and refusal to feel anything but anger!) and the way she compartmentalized to get through the day. It made this book a challenging read but I also think that if Jill Shalvis could get me onboard with this story, she has done her job and done it well.
Jill writes a great contemporary romance. She knows how to build characters, create real relationships and get you to the HEA. I am not going to focus on any of that in this review because it's a given when I pick up one of her books. What I do want to talk about was the way she approached all of the characters' connections to Lexi's mother, Daisy.
It is a truth in trauma work that individual kids can have been raised by the same parents at the same time but have had radically different experiences of those parents. Lexi spends a lot of this book dealing with the fact that her stepsister got a totally different mom than she had. She has to confront that her mom cleaned up her life after Lexi moved with her dad and how does she cope with the knowledge that her mom got clean for Ashley but didn't for her? She has a come-to-Jesus moment with Ashley in the book where she tells her stepsister about the time her mother was gambling at the casino and forgot to come pick her up from elementary school so she had to walk five miles home by herself. Lexi also went to pay for college with her trust fund from her grandparents to find her mother had drained it and never told her. Meanwhile her sister had this beautiful, loving relationship with a person who couldn't be bothered to care for her other child when there were slot machines nearby.
There was a quote on page 146 of the paperback in Heath's POV that totally got me:
My father used to leave me places all the time because he was drunk at home and didn't look up from his video games to remember he had a kid who needed him. Or he would forget that we needed dinner until it was 9 at night because he had a six-pack to finish. Later when I went no-contact, my grandmother would tell me what an attentive father he was to my youngest half-sibling, how much he had changed his life for her. And there is nothing you can do with that information because it's really hard to know that this person who was supposed to love you and take care of you couldn't get their shit together for you but could do it for someone else. And what do you do with that?
I think Jill Shalvis did the only thing you can do with that truth in this book which was to let Lexi feel all the messy feelings, let her take time to process everything and still allow her to be pissed at her mom even when she feels regret over the fact that it's too late to fix their relationship. Because while her mom got better and became a better person, it doesn't negate what she did to Lexi as a child. It doesn't make that neglect better or clear up Lexi's trauma. And I loved that the hero, Heath, doesn't think Lexi has to let it go either. He thinks she gets to feel however she wants about Daisy, even if his relationship with her was radically different. And I think that was one of the most honest, beautiful parts of this book.
If you read that whole thing, you're a brave person because that was a lot and it's messy. But it's also the storage unit of baggage I brought with me to this book and I couldn't figure out how to review it without that context so thanks for reading, I guess?

When you learn someone's story - it usually makes you like them automatically more right? That's what Shalvis did in The Love Fix. We learned who Lexi was and what happened to her - which in turn made me root for her character in alllll of the ways I could. I wanted her to succeed everywhere!!

I love Jill Shalvis’s brand of romances that deliver characters I want to spend time with, laughter and heart. Lexi Clark has been summoned back to Sunrise Cove by her stepsister Ashley. Who just lives behind her childhood nemesis-turned-crush Heath Bowman. Her plan is to stay for one week, help Ashley with heaven knows what, and return to the city to find a new job. Fate and her dead estranged mother have other plans.
Coffee Dates with The Love Fix
First Date – Lexi was fired from a job she loves and ended a relationship that blindsided her. She has some abandonment issues regarding her Mom, but cannot help but fly to Sunrise Cove when her sister Ashley says she needs help. She arrives to discover her sister and her childhood crush waiting at the airport for her. I loved the enemies to lovers vibe, but it seemed to be one sided. I found myself excited to learn more.
Second Date- Ashley and Lexi’s Mom apparently came into some money before she died and has requested the sisters’ hand deliver envelops to six people. One per week. The attraction between Lexi and Heath is sizzling despite her denials. It was interesting to learn all of their stories and discover the baggage each carries. Along the way, we learn more about Lexi’s mom.
Third Date– all the feels. We have miscommunication, trust issues, and character growth. I could not set this down as I hoped for a happily ever after and the outcome I desired. Did I get it? You’ll need to read The Love Fix to find out. Along the way you will laugh, fall in love with Ashley and Heath’s family. Let’s not forget the adorkable dog he took in.

I really wanted to love this book, so let’s start with the things I liked; I liked the frenemies trope, I liked the family aspect of the book, and the healing that happened between Lexi and Ashley. I think what I struggled with most as a reader is connecting with Lexi as a FMC. I felt as though she was really, really stuck in this cycle of self-pity. I also struggled to continue on through the book a bit because I didn’t feel that tension between Lexi and Heath at all. I wasn’t aware this was an eighth book in a “series” where the characters are interconnected, so maybe I would’ve felt differently with some context. Overall, it just missed the mark for me. Lexi just got fired from her job, and heads west after a plea from her stepsister Ashley. Lexi's parents divorced when she was a kid, and she went with her father because of her mom Daisy's gambling addiction. (When Daisy remarried, she acquired Ashley as a stepdaughter.) Before Daisy's death, she won the lottery, and Lexi and Ashley were asked to deliver several envelopes, presumably to people who had lent Daisy money. Heath, a guy she know from school who always seemed kind of arrogant, is good friends with Ashley so he's always around. But the more Lexi gets to know Ashley and Heath, the more she realizes how she has guarded her heart after being hurt so often. Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the ARC.

It was fine, but it could've been better. I think the reasoning as to why Lexi hates her mom is valid but the reason as to why it started is a little over the top; I think it was something done multiple times then yea it would be normal but one time is a little over the top. Honestly quick read so can't complain just wish it was better.

The Love Fix is book 8 in Jill Shalvis’ Sunrise Cove series. I know going in to one of Jill’s books that I will not be disappointed. There is guaranteed to be lots of family, friendship, heart and love.
A year after the death of her mother, Lexi Clark heads back to Sunrise Cove to honor her mother’s final wish to make amends with people she’d wronged. Returning to Sunrise Cove also means facing her estranged relationship with her stepsister, Ashley and her childhood friend/nemesis turned crush, Heath.
There was so much that I loved about this - the found family, the family trauma, the road trip fun and of course the frenemies to lovers romance. I loved Heath and his loud, nosey and messy family. He was so steadfast and patient with Lexi. Loved the healing that both of the MCs allowed themselves to experience.

I really enjoyed this book! It was funny and witty and emotional and I really loved the characters so much. Lexi and Heath and her step sister Ashley and Gus too. I really loved the found family themes and forgiveness and found myself a few times asking “who’s cutting onions?”
There was no question Lexi and Heath had a connection from the start, but they both had emotional baggage and we see their chemistry and feelings really build.
Her family is complicated and she finds herself helpless to right wrongs from her mother’s past. I really felt for Lexi - she had been hurt and tries to just fix everything herself (oldest daughter here and I really connected with her on those feelings.)

This was a cozy summer read with the perfect blend of humor, emotional moments, and an emphasis on family bonds. This was my first time reading anything by this author and I loved how all the books in this series could be read as standalones.
This story is about Lexi, who returns to her hometown of Sunrise Cove a year after her mom passed away to fulfill her final wishes.
I loved seeing Lexi and her sister Ashley’s bond grow and develop throughout the book. A lot of things in this story felt truly believable as the characters actually tried to work through and overcome past hardships in order to move forward.

This is proof that life is messy. Nothing is perfect, no one is perfect, and sometimes the person who let you down is the rock and saving grace for someone else. It doesn’t make you less lovable. It doesn’t make those who did see another side of the person more worthy. It just…is. And honestly, this story is FULL of “is” and learning by seeing things from another perspective.
Lexi is going through a lot. She’s been used, discarded, dismissed, and dropped by the wayside too many times to count. And now she has to fulfill the last wishes of someone who was never there for her. All to keep a promise to her sister, Ashley. By going through this, Lexi knows she’s putting her heart at risk. She knows she’s going to get hurt. And she does. But she’s not the only one.
Heath is sort of in the same boat. But he’s always wanted Lexi, whether or not he chose to admit it before now. If Ashley and a final wish from someone important to so many mean that he’s got that chance, he’s going to take it now. Of course, communication is key and secrets do hurt when they come out, but love can sometimes overcome all, as we see here.
I loved my time with Lexi, Ashley, and Heath. I’m actually a little sad to hit “the end” but the growing that takes place for all of them makes this a story you won’t want to miss!

The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis was everything I wanted and more! 💘 Cozy, sweet, a little spicy, and packed with heart. Lexi is complicated but so relatable, and watching Ashley and Heath slowly break through her walls? So perfect! This had me laughing out loud one moment and tearing up the next, a perfect blend of grief, healing, and found family.

Full. On. Sobbing. Y'all, I can't. This one stabbed me in the heart, dug out the stupid organ, stomped it (lovingly), and then stitched it right back into my chest. I see so much of myself in Lexi, that hyper-independence. And in Ashley, who smiles through her pain. And in Heath, who thinks he has to be useful to everyone all the time. This story was so beautiful, and there was such heartache and pain, but also moments of joy and goodness and learning how to be there for each other and for yourself. I loved it. So much.

This is the final entry of Jill Shalvis stand-alone series "Sunrise Cove" - and for the final book, unfortunately, I wasn't impressed much.
My problem was similar to the previous book of this universe, Better Than Friends. I thought the problem between Lexi and to that extent, Heath, was going round-and-round. Not sure if they really "changed" their stance. It didn't happened convincingly for me.
On top of that, I was rather annoyed on Lexi's behalf. She experienced a different mother than her stepsister, Ashley, or even Heath. So her feeling of being abandoned was VALID. But it seemed that Heath and Ashley were trying to hard to discount that feeling, to make Lexi see her mother in a different light.
The story didn't help because although Lexy told us readers about the bad things her mother did, but the bulk of this story was how good Daisy was to others as well. I can understand the story about forgiveness, but pushing everything within weeks only to Lexi didn't seemed fair.
I did love Ashley though - she was wonderful. Also Heath's family members. And I admit I had tears in some parts. But in overall, this wasn't a favorite.

This was my first read of this author and this series. It was so easy to relate and feel for the characters.
Lexi felt abandoned by her mother and like she didn’t love her. She wasn’t there for her when she was a child and let her down many times. This is something Lexi has let haunt her for many years. Now that her mother has passed, letters left behind has brought her back to Sunrise Cove. Seeing her sister and a boy she once had feelings for is bringing up a lot of feelings.
Ashley is a happy go lucky and always seeing the bright side woman. She is so excited to have her sister back and hoping she will stay and they can have a relationship. But maybe she isn’t telling the complete truth and she is using the letters to her advantage to get her family.
Heath does everything he can for the people he cares for. He would do anything and everything for them. Sometimes he runs himself thin doing things for everyone else and wants them to all be happy. But does he take the time for himself and his happiness? With Lexi back in town he is feeling things again. He wants to make sure Daisys wishes are completed, but at what cost?
This book was full of hurt, sorrow, hardship, pain, loss, and finding characters finding themselves.

Sometimes I don't know why I keep reading this series because I never like the books as much as I want to (I always do love the covers though).
This was fine. A little underwhelming. There wasn't much depth even though there were attempts. I didn't ever really feel the connection/chemistry between the love interests.

Usually Jill Shalvis's books put me at peace with the world. There's the love story, there's the family group, there's the community that helps, and in short, everybody lived happily ever after. This time, however, I may not have been able to appreciate the whole package as much as usual, because I got quite bored and struggled to get to the end.

The Love Fix is a story of facing the past, lowering your walls, and moving forward into a brighter future. Jill Shalvis’s final Sunrise Cove novel has romance, humor, loving and nosy family members, and a cute animal – all what you’d expect from this series.
Lexi has returned to Sunrise Cove after years away to help settle her mother’s estate. Lexi has reason to be hurt and bitter about her mother’s neglect, but the journey she takes in delivering the letters her mother wrote brings her closer to two people. The Love Fix has two love stories: one familial, one romantic. I really liked seeing Lexi become close to her stepsister, Ashley. Ashley is cute as a button and overly eager to try and convince Lexi to stay and be a real family. She’s got the traditional Shalvis supporting character quirks and no boundaries but she’s genuinely kind so it’s sweet.
The other love story is the main draw of the book and that’s the romance between Lexi and Heath. Like Lexi, Heath has been hurt by a parent who should have protected him. He’s used to people only wanting him for what he can do for them so like Lexi it’s hard for him to let down his walls. He and Lexi have had chemistry for years so their fall into love was believable. The romance was a bit understated, but it was enjoyable.
For all its heavy themes, The Love Fix is a breezy summer read overall. Everyone in the story is likeable and it was easy to root for the characters. That being said, as a longtime Shalvis reader I will say it isn’t her most memorable story. I wanted to feel more depth to the characters and sometimes it was tell rather than show with them. Overall the story felt a little shallow but it’s good to pass the time with. You don’t have to be familiar with the Sunrise Cove series to read this book so if you’re looking for a good beach read, The Love Fix will hit the spot.

This was such an enjoyable read and my first book by Jill Shalvis, and definitely will not be my last. I immediately found myself invested in the story, especially in Heath and Lexi. They loosely reminded me of Noelle and Theo from You, With a View by Jessica Joyce; childhood nemesis’s with a one-sided dislike that slowly unravels into something more, with sharp banter, undeniable chemistry, and great tension throughout. I loved the dynamic that Heath and Lexi had; the way their history wove through their present. The glimpses into their shared past alongside the people they had grown into was really nice to see.
Yes, this was messy and chaotic at times, but in the best way. It captured the reality of how unpredictable life can be; how grief, loss, and parental abandonment leave lasting marks that shape who we are, and Lexi was the epitome of that. I Jill didn’t shy away from the difficult emotions in telling their story, and navigated them in an honest, sometimes messy, but ultimately really profound way. You could truly feel the weight of what both Heath and Lexi had been through and how those experiences shaped their choices, fears, and their bond.

This is book eight, and the final book, in the Sunrise Cove series. The books are complete standalones so they can be read in any order.
This book is about Lexi and Heath. Lexi is back in Sunrise Cove one year after her mother’s passing to help her stepsister, Ashley, honor her mother’s wishes of making amends to those she had wronged. Lexi didn’t have the relationship with her mother like Ashley did as she had to leave town to go live with her father—where her living situation wasn’t any better.
Heath has always been her frenemy while living there. Their attempt at something romantic previously didn’t go the way Lexi had hoped, leaving her embarrassed. Heath is a wonderful man who feels the need to be there for everyone but himself. He’s a caretaker for his brother and his family, his grandpa and Ashley. Plus, he’s so patient with Lexi and all that she is dealing with.

This book is about Lexi and Heath. Lexi is back in Sunrise Cove one year after her mother’s passing to help her stepsister, Ashley, honor her mother’s wishes of making amends to those she had wronged. Lexi didn’t have the relationship with her mother like Ashley did as she had to leave town to go live with her father—where her living situation wasn’t any better.
Heath has always been her frenemy while living there. Their attempt at something romantic previously didn’t go the way Lexi had hoped, leaving her embarrassed. Heath is a wonderful man who feels the need to be there for everyone but himself. He’s a caretaker for his brother and his family, his grandpa and Ashley. Plus, he’s so patient with Lexi and all that she is dealing with.

Lexi’s childhood enemy and Ashley’s dear friend Heath finds himself along for the ride. While the sisters complete the tasks left for them, Heath and Lexi realize beyond the animosity they really do enjoy each other’s company.
I thought this was a great story. The thing I love about Jill Shalvis is that you get a heart felt story that keeps you interested and has you kicking your feet and rooting for the MCs HEA. I have read a few other in the Sunrise Cove series and they all give you the same feeling. These books are a perfect escape when you need a break for the high stakes world.

This book was a very confusing book. There were parts of it that made absolutely no sense at all to me. Heath and Lexi grew up in the same town. They were neighbors and had a crush on each other for many years. When Lexi returns after her mother has passed away to her hometown she finds out that her mother left six envelopes to be delivered one a week by herself and her sister. Ashley is not really her sister, but that is not clear either. There’s sexual attention going on the entire book between Heath and Lexi. They can’t seem to get it together and even when they do decide to be a couple they still have problems. Luckily 300 pages later they do figure out their relationship.

I honestly adored this book, and it can absolutely be read as a standalone, which is what I did. This is a book of making amends, remembering who matters most, finding yourself, and small town romance. This book was heartwarming and I loved getting to see the growth of Lexi and Ash’s relationship as sisters over the course of the story. I also loved the dynamic, with witty banter and clear communication, between Heath and Ash as the slow burn progressed. This was such a sweet read and I will absolutely be reading more by this author! (Warning: FMC does not have a dog companion, contrary to the beautiful cover art 🥲)
