My earlier childhood books were all Enid Blyton and Rudyard Kipling. A bit of a dearth of local culture. So when it came my turn to entertain with bedtime stories I wanted Dreamtime over Faraway Trees. These Dick Roughsey retellings of the legends are pretty cool. Well illustrated and easy for a child to understand. More edgy than sugar ‘n spice, no picnics on the beach after a happily ever after. But entertaining and then some for a little person. I worked with the authors great-great-granddaughter who reminded me of these indigenous tales and that I had read them numerous times. Outstanding.
