4.5 stars from me. In this instalment of the Broken series, we get to see what's going on inside Vincent's head...black as night, as you would expect...BUT maybe, just maybe there IS a little tiny ray of light at the end of Vince's tunnel!!

This story delves into his background, and how his mother dying of cancer sparks a feeling of complete and utter helplessness in Vincent because he can't do a single, solitary thing about it, has no power over it and he's not used to being in that position. He turns to Mr Carson (vile creature) for help, and Mr Carson notices immediately that power is the thing that Vince craves . He tells him 'people who don't have power are nothing more than sacrificial lambs for those who do have it. It's the way of the world. If you're not the one holding the knife, then you will be the one getting slaughtered. That's why you have to choose wisely.'
And I just have to say at this juncture Vince (you don't mind me calling you Vince do you??) , your treating Mr Carson as a 'fatherly figure' was probably a very bad idea!!

Vincent joins 'The Syndicate' and becomes one of Mr Carson's henchmen, and as readers of this series know what that entails, I won't go into it. Suffice to say, Vince gets himself a boyfriend Ethan, whose background and ties to a certain 'vile creature', would give me the willies, but our Vince is careful (or so he thinks) and he and Ethan carry on their affair for quite some time until the day arrives when he gets a phone call from Ethan and all hell lets loose.

Redemption is obviously the name of the game. He couldn't save Ethan, he couldn't save his mother, can he save Aaron from a fate worse than death at the brothel and in the process buy himself a 'get out of jail virtually free' card for the future?? Can Vince redeem himself enough by frequently warning Aaron about Eric the Untrustworthy and then doing something about Eric himself....oh, with help from an unexpected quarter. As far as Carter is concerned, not good news I'm afraid. He's been shipped off to his buyer, no possibility of him being rescued by Tristan...or is there?? We can only hope....Read the book Broken series 'groupies', read the book and discover for yourselves.

I loved the line thus conscience does make cowards of us all...yes, I did my Shakespeare and Hamlet at school, and it fits with Vincent so well, it's almost as if Will the Quill wrote it with Vincent in mind hehe. We understand of course that Vincent knows what he should do as far as Mr Carson is concerned, but his conscience is preventing him from doing what must be done, it's making a coward of him. Loved the 'blond' moment references too.

Many thanks Kol for the ARC. Big smooch!!

Kol Anderson is a god. That is all.

Every time I think I've figured him out, or I come close to a glimpse of the brilliance that is Kol Anderson he throws me for another loop.

If you haven't caught up yet with his Broken series, then read up:

Broken Season 1
Broken 1 The Prisoner
Broken 2 Hell and Beyond
Broken 3 The Escape

Broken Season 2
Broken 4 Once Broken
Broken 5 The Devil You Know

This book is brilliant, like all the others in the Broken series. Here we get to see a bit behind the scenes of Vincent's story, of where he comes from, what motivates him, what drives him, what made him the way he is. It's a heartbreaking journey, fair warning.

Kol knows how to land an emotional punch. His dialogue (well documented in my other reviews) is out of this goddamn world. It breaks you down and opens the character up so that each and every Kol Anderson character is a character study. Few authors possess this natural gift of revealing character through unique and beautiful dialogue. Lord help me I can go on for hours.

Kol pours emotion over his stories like olive oil, taking you along for the journey until the very last page and keeping you wanting more.

Is Vincent redeemable? Lord I hope so.

A review by The Blogger Girls.

Holy cow, it’s the insider’s guide to Vincent! We find out how he obtained his position in Carson’s organization, how he was able to maintain it, and bit of what he is thinking about various events/people.

Vince is the guy you hate to love and love to hate. Up to this point, he has been evil and brutal and just plain unlikeable. But, there has always been something about him though that drew me in. Until Aaron, Vince seemed to not have much of a problem and little remorse for doing what he does. But, Aaron appears to have chipped away at a tiny bit of the ice.

Here, Vincent tries to warn Aaron to basically clam up and move on with his life. He has been given an opportunity no other captives have been given, and if he doesn’t stop trying to help others and take down his website, he is going to have problems.

Meanwhile, Carter is having issues as well, as he has gotten the attention of Carson who thinks he has been getting special treatment. Therefore, he is quickly sent off to a new owner. Wonder if we will get to see him again. Meanwhile, Vincent is walking a fine line with Carson as well.

Yet again, Kol has given us another short story that packs an incredible punch. He gives tidbits of answers but replaces them with twists and turns so that you end up with even more than when you started. Speaking of twists and turns, we have yet another where Aaron is concerned that, even though I wanted to be wrong, had me yelling out “I knew it!” I cannot wait to see how that is all going to play out.

While this installment definitely moves the story forward, I loved that we were able to see a little more into Vincent’s mind and background. This was a fabulous addition in true Kol style, as usual, leaving me grumbling for more at the end.

We get a little insight on what makes Vincent tick and why he entered into this line of 'work'. How is it possible that I felt sorry for him (just a little bit)?? So much more to learn and another ending that makes you want to have the next book at your fingertips.

It's Vincent's POV!!!

I know, I'm probably in the minority in regards to my feels towards Vince. I mean, the guy is clearly a Bastard. How can I like someone I should dislike?! So it makes me wonder what that says about me. Am I naive? Am I stupid? Am I full of wishful thinking? Am I the one that is damaged? It might be neither, some or all of those. And that's the beauty of Kol's writes! He creates emotions in me that I never expected to experience. He is able to create a world and characters that are provoking and not easily forgettable.

As I mentioned, The Devil You Know is told in Vincent's POV. It takes us back and forth during the span of 6 years, alternating between the past and the present. Allowing us to see who and what makes Vincent...well, Vincent.

Through Kol's stories we get to see how relationships are complicated. We walk away from them realizing that unfortunately for some of us life is NOT fluffy and full of smiles or happily ever afters. And after reading THIS book and being allowed into Vincent's head, Kol showed me one more thing: That we are more than the sum of our sins.

The Devil You Know is another great addition to the Broken series! One that you will be glad to have gotten your hands on!

Kol, three books in one month? You're spoiling me, babe.

Into the head of Vincent, we get his back story while still moving ahead in the plot. Vincent has laid out a warning to Aaron and Aaron has made his intentions very clear. Things are not looking good for Carter and poor Carl has paid the price for his heroics. Another good installment to the story.

I now understand where you are coming from Vincent and your story touched me, but I think it may be too little to late for me to want a happy ending for you. I hope that shred of humanity you have left in you bodes well for Aaron and Carter, but you still need to pay buddy. Hopefully you will take Eric with you as well.

In a series there can be a character that everyone loves to hate. We all know him/her. They are written so that we can focus our ire and our anger on these "safe" persona-non-grata's. Often these characters are not given much of a backstory that will give us a rounded multidimensional view of them. Well this is Vince's story. for those of you who have been following, Vince is our main protagonist and a well established asshole of the highest order, having been very present in Broken Season 1.
This is his story and even though Kol Anderson has written him as an evil b@st@rd he has also included the odd redeeming paragraph or anecdote about him thoughout the whole arc. This brings it all together. So having said that please don't go into this without reading all the others, Broken Season 1 and Season 2 episode 1 Once Broken. Now in this Kol has also furthered the story arc as well so now we have arrived firmly in cliffhanger land.
The Devil you know is, as I have come to expect from Kol, beautifully and richly written but in this instance with a definite eye on the end game. Will we after all has been revealed learn to give Vince a little piece of our heart or is he irredeemable? I do love how Kol has once again turned our little book world on its ear and asked us... no demanded that we give someone that we might have flicked over otherwise, a chance.

This installment is the thread that ties everything together. It begins at the exact finish point of the last story. Finally, we get inside Vincent. We see who he used to be, who he is and who he wants to be. Vince is really just as trapped as the slaves he helps to torture.
"I'm not a good person!" Vincent snapped. "God blondie, get some fucking perspective! The world isn't some chocolate factory and we're not made out of rainbows. The world is a fucked up psycho killer's lair and if you're not the one silting throats then you're the one who ends up dead on the floor of some miserable slaughterhouse! Why can't you pick the winning side for once?"

Although mostly focused on Vincent, we see some of Carter and Aaron. Sebastian, Eric, Joshua, Carson and Carl also pop up in action or conversation. There are a couple of new characters added into the mythology of the story also.

Lots of backdrop and build up. Where is this going? I have NO IDEA. Just my personal input, as f'd up as Vincent is, I would like to see Aaron and he end up together.

4-4.5 stars (great for a sort story)

I have decided that Kol Anderson's mission in life is to kill me and wreck me emotionally....LOL! I can't say it enough, he is a brilliant evil genius. I am always just speechless after reading Kol's work. To no avail The Devil You Know leaves me just the same way. I freaking love it!!

I will not say much about this story because it will give way too much away. I mean really it will! This is Vincent's story and if you have taken the plunge to the dark side of the Broken series then you probably loath him as much as I do. I'm quite serious..really!! I have thought of a million ways to make that character suffer for sure!! HEHEHEHE!!!!

So what happens now... Kol just manages to knock me off my rocker and let Vincent have some emotions!! Now i'm just not sure how I feel about him at all..yep typical Mr. Anderson for sure. So the devil we all know may not really be the devil at all...UGH!!! Did I mention we are now totally wanting to know more about Eric after reading this one. Anyway this book is fabulous and once again you will find yourself asking those familiar questions of REALLY??? WHY??? WHATS NEXT??

Kol has got to be the best tease around for sure. I'm an addict for his work and I don't think its gonna ever change. This complete series is not for the faint of heart but I can promise you this: if you haven't read this series you are missing out on one heck of a mind blowing emotional journey. Give it a try for sure.

I knew that Vince was much more than that!
Get into the head of the sexiest tormentor ever seen, it was a nice surprise.
his background, how he became from a good boy, to a bastard (with heart!?) that he is now. wow.
As always Kol, you're incredible
I think I could love you forever!

I had to keep repeating in my head..... I will not feel sorry for Vince, I will not feel sorry for Vince! Another great installment to this series. Still so many questions....There are so many great characters in this series. Glad to see Aaron stand up for himself! Still don't like Vince, but I understand him more. Can't wait to find out what happens next!

Once again, Kol Anderson brings us a spellbinding episode in the Broken series. Even though this installment focuses on Vincent, there are a little snippets with what’s going on with Aaron and Carter. I’ve always been fascinated with Vince, the man Aaron and Carter fear and loathe and sometimes even love. We are first introduced to him at the beginning of The Broken series, but we never get to “know” him. We saw from the previous installments that he’s good at breaking spirits in a heinous, torturous way. To sum him up, he’s basically a sadistic bastard that we all love to hate.

This story delves a little deeper into Vince as a person. I don’t know about anyone else, but he’s not portrayed as a person, per se. He’s everyone’s nightmare, a walking psychopath. But, is he really? Is he this unfeeling, cold, inhumane person we all think he is? I’ve always found characters like Vince intriguing. How did they become the person they are today? What happened in their life that made them this way?

For Vince, I knew there was a story to tell. Mr. Anderson delivers it all up on a silver platter that only left me wanting more, but was enough to keep me satisfied until next time. I don’t believe for one minute Vince will win over many readers, he still has that twinge of evilness about him. What this story will do is give you a sense of understanding about what makes Vince tick, why he is the way he is, and at some points, he’ll even make you feel sorry for him. But not for long.

I loved that Mr. Anderson chose now to let us in on some of Vince’s secrets. We’re at that part of the story where we know what goes on behind the scenes of reconditioning, for lack of a better word, and later at the brothel. Now we’re getting to know and see the people behind this disgusting human trafficking business. I’m ready, are you?

To wrap things up here, I can never say it enough, this author has a way of bringing the reader into his world, shaking them up and spitting them out. I’ve never read an author who can put so much story and emotion on thirty pages that leaves the reader feeling as though they’ve read an eight hundred page novel. That’s how I feel when I read Kol Anderson.

In this one book 5 of the Broken series we get a look into the beginnings of Vince and his relationship with Ethan...I did feel slightly sorry for Vince in this one but I had to keep remembering how he treated Aaron who I still love....Carter is still there under service to the syndicate and badly abused by a client..Do I trust Tristan....No...He could have helped Carter far more than just medical care....Things are not looking good for Carter and Vince.....You could have walked away x

In this episode we see into the mind of Vincent and figure out just how he came to be as fucked up as he is.

While I get that this is trying to humanize Vince, I just could not feel sorry for the guy. He willingly and happily rapes, tortures and allows the killing of innocent men and women so that he can make a profit. No matter what he went through, no matter how he got there I just cannot feel empathy for him.

On to the next!

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

4.5 Stars

For a little while now I have found myself wondering about Vincent and what on earth got him to the place he is at and his position in the syndicate.
Well, now we know!!

And isn’t it just as dark, twisted and sad as the rest of this brilliant series from Kol.

Who wouldn’t do just about anything to save a sick parent? Vincent meets Carson for the first time and will virtually agree to anything if it means being able to pay for his mother’s treatment.

Once upon a time Vincent fell in love. Here endeth that particular fairytale as he couldn’t have fallen in love with a more dangerous person. Snatched away from him in the cruelest of ways there is little wonder the man goes onto to become who he is today. Carson, Carson you are evil incarnate and somebody should shoot you.
As you read more and more into this series you get more and more entwined.

Aaron seems to be finally mending and even shows a little defiance in this book when he comes face to face with his old nemesis. Obviously everything he does gets reported back via Eric thus putting him back in the path of danger once more. What will it take to convince him that there is a traitor living with him?

Vincent is showing signs of thawing slightly in this book but I wonder how many readers will be able to forgive him for the last 5 years since he started working for Carson. Will he ever be able to redeem himself or is he in too deep. What effect will Eric have and what information is Naomi about to hand over?

We need to know where Carter is going and whether someone is going to give him his happy ever after or if the nightmare for him is set to continue. I still hope Tristan will step in time to save the day.

Another gritty episode where Kol has given us a little insight into a man we all love to hate. Where he has answered a few questions but made us ask many more and yet again has us bouncing on our toes waiting for the next instalment.

I loved getting to see the personal side of Vincent. He is still a sick @sswhole but his story is entertaining and surprise surprise, he does have a heart in there somewhere! I was extremely surprised to see Aaron and Sebastian again (apparently I was wrong in assuming that they would not continue into season 2). The ending of this, "book" (it really should not be called a book since it is truly just several chapters) was one of the worst I've ever seen. I literally had to ask around until I found someone with this e-book, asking her to confirm that her copy ended the same way mine did. I was positive that I was missing some pages because the ending was so abrupt and made absolutely no sense. I still don't understand what that ending was all about.

Vincent's story!

Well, the author of this book is not my friend. Nor he sent me a copy of his book so I can not go OMFG with this one. (Because that's the case almost here and any other blog about this book's reviews. Don't believe me? Well, do your research then and see.)

I'm hooked on the series, that's one thing. I seriously wanna know what's going to happen next but that does not help me not to critize the
-almost- cheesy writing that at some point I just thought that might be a work of a teenager.

I just don't know what to do with that series.

This is Vincents story. We learn about his realtionship with Ethan and how he came to work for Carlton. The story was very emotional and I finally understand the reasons for the way Vince acts. Until now Vince was the bad guy for me. Well, he still is, but now I feel pity and hope for a better future for him.

In Ethan's memory

Is Vincent going to do the right thing for a change? Is he going to save Aaron? All the while trying to convince Aaron who the evil is in his life? What's going to happen to Carter? Is Tristan more than a John per se'?
Is Aaron going to be Eric's downfall?
How doe Sebastian not know what Eric is up to? His best friend is a cop!
