This novel was a beautifully written slow burn. That kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. It has you feeling all the feels. Giggling at the banter, crying out at their pain, and raging right along side them. Did I mention THE SMUT? Had me blushing at times 🤭 I am so honored to have been part of this ARC team! I cannot wait to see what is to come!
Lastly, congratulations to my friend and author of this book. L.K. Kagey I am so proud of you and happy to been part of this experience!
Okay so 5 starts isn’t enough so we are gonna say a good 10/5 starts!!! This book literally ripped my soul from my body and tore it to shreds just to glue it back together smooth out the cracks and gently put it. MATEO FUCKING GARZA. It’s so well written and will have you thinking about it even when you put it down to get something to drink. The author knew wtf she was doing and made a story that will have you both kicking your feet giggling and also crying until you can’t breath😭. I literally can’t wait until book 2 and will be reading it at the first available date!! Thank you so much to the author for letting me be an ARC reader for this amazingly written masterpiece! I don’t think I’ll be able to ever stop thinking about this book it’s literally not possible 😭🤦🏻♀️
That pool table scene was nasty af. Like, a PUBLIC pool cue handle? Heck no, the germs alone 🤢 BUT if you skip right over that, this was actually a fun ride!
I actually really enjoyed the dynamic between our FMC and our two MMCs. It felt real, though I will say at times it needed a bit more depth.
Eli was hard to understand at times, and it made me wanna smack him. Like he kept freaking himself out! Man just TALK to people and you'll be fiiiiiine
And Matteo was like.. the most adorable man but with severe anger issues 😊 perfect! The part after she had to get information from the firefighters was just perfection omg
Our FMC was a little dumb tbh. Like if everyone agrees, including two men who hate each other and never agree on anything, that you shouldn't be there, maybe you shouldn't be there 😱
But I still binged this so fast. I could barely stop listening and days later I can't stop thinking about it and wanting to read the next one. The audio was absolutely fantastic too!
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this! It was a great read despite the flaws
Beneath The Surface is one of those reads that slowly pulls you in until you’re completely hooked. It’s part psychological suspense, part emotional journey, and I couldn’t put it down.
The FMC felt so real and relatable, and I loved how the story unraveled in layers—just like the title hints at. There’s a quiet intensity to Kagey’s writing that kept me flipping pages, needing to know what really happened and how it would all play out.
It does deal with some heavier themes (check the trigger warnings please) but nothing felt overdone or forced. It was handled with a lot of care and thoughtfulness, which made the emotional payoff hit even harder.
The spice is definitely there (and it’s chef’s kiss), but it never overshadows the story. This is a super plot-driven book, and the tension, mystery, and character development take center stage—the spice just adds that extra layer on top. Think of it as the cherry on an already delicious sundae.
I’m SO grateful I got to read this early—and I cannot wait for the next one. If this is what the author’s debut looks like, we’re in for a wild ride!
This book was pretty good! It wasn’t what I expected since I didn’t read the synopsis and the name of the series sounded like a Romantasy. 🫣 But I enjoyed the storyline and characters nonetheless.
I liked both of the MMC’s. The FMC was likable but I also wanted to kick her sometimes. I’ll probably read the 2nd book if I’m not under the avalanche of my existing tbr’s!
First of all, I absolutely loved Lexi, she was so real and relatable - the fact that she loves sleep token, prefers men with dark hair & we have the same name - hey twin 😂!! Also Mateo. Freaking. Garza. 🥵 I think it’s safe to say I am in LOVE with that man. The plot was so interesting it had me hooked in & the writing was fast paced so there was never any chapters where I was bored!! I also loved the mystery aspect of the book & I cannot wait to find out who murdered her sister in book 2!! The spice was spicing, the motorcycle scene 🤭, the counting scene 🥵 (also I will never be looking at a pool cue the same 😳😈), but the book was still definitely more plot focused & the smut never took away or distracted from the plot!! Also the emotional roller coaster at the end 😭 oh my lord!! Honestly I loved everything about this book. I kicked my feet, I blushed, I giggled, I gasped, I overall had a great time!! 😆 10/10 would def recommend this book, & will def be reading it again!! 💖 Also side note: loved Serena & Henry, they were my fav side characters!! 😆
Favourite Quotes 🤭:
‘What’s on my mind, is that you make me want to be worthy of you.’ ‘I want to be the kind of man who deserves to stand by your side. And somehow, at the same time I want to fucking ruin you.’ ‘I want to drag you down to my level & watch you struggle to maintain that flawless little image you project to the rest of the world.’ ‘I want to be the one who breaks you,’ ‘I want to be the one who shatters that perfect facade & reveals the real you—the one who’s hiding beneath the surface.’ ‘I want to see you raw & vulnerable, stripped of all your defences & inhibitions,’ ‘then, I want to be the only one who can pick up the pieces.’ - Mateo
‘I’m not sure when it happened, Alexandra, but somewhere along the way, I decided I would die for you. And now, if you’ll have me, I want to live for you. With you.’ ‘I want to build a future together.’ ‘A life filled with happiness, far away from all the fucking pain & violence. ‘It drives me crazy when you’re right.’ ‘Everything about you drives me crazy.’ ‘When did you become so sweet?’ ‘Where is my fiery, temperamental, hot-headed man?’ - Lexi ‘Oh he’s still here, baby. Trust me. He’s just in love with you now.’ - Mateo

‘Jesus, my name on her lips was like a drug. I knew from that moment forward she would never be truly free of me. There wasn’t a corner of this earth that I wouldn’t find her. Did that make me crazy? Most likely, but I never claimed to be a rational man.’ - Mateo
Thank you so much L.K. Kagey for the ARC copy & the opportunity to read & review this book. It means the absolute world to me, you did an amazing job & I cannot wait to read book 2!! 🥰😁

Beneath the Surface is everything you’re looking for in a romance book with crime/mob vibes.
Lexi is an investigative journalist. Elijah is a private lender. Mateo is…
This book grabbed my attention, it was so fast paced, keeping me hooked through the end.
I loved the depth of our main characters and how relatable and realistic they were. I honestly hope our side characters show up in Book 2, they had such varying personalities and added an extra level of intrigue to what would happen next.
I want to say so much but I don’t want to give anything away. Covert missions, arson, cowboys, motorcycles, fast cars, bad guys, and all around great storyline. This was a hard one to put down even though at one point it wrecked me and my heart broke so badly that I was afraid to go on. It was a good heart break though 😅. It is a slow burn but it does get spicy especially her birthday…pool cues…who knew 😅. Highly recommend.
Side note: Serena is my absolute favorite. Everyone needs a friend like her.

The dedication was perfection and I knew I’d like this book! It has dark humor, some serious true crime/ mafia moments. Definitely a fun read. Was expecting the MMC to be more of a morally grey man but he is just a big sweetheart. Hoping book two gives us more depth to the characters. The FMC needs some more depth or at least understanding as to why she is the way she is. Definitely recommend it for a fun true crime type book.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this ARC, but it completely blew me away.
This book had me hooked with its twists, high-stakes drama, and slow-burning, emotionally-charged romance. If you love stories with strong heroines, dangerous men, and secrets that could ruin everything—this one’s for you.
I enjoyed this audio! OMG as always the narrators did amazing ! 🔥🔥🔥
Audio available 11/20!!
The FMC was ballsy and truly determined! I LOVE MATEO!!!🙌🏽😮💨😮💨 that man omg. There was great banter, angst and tension! Also, as a Texas girlie I loved all the Texas references cause so true!😅
I hope you add this to your TBR! Especially the audio!! Read the TW! ⚠️
OMG, what's not to love about this. Between falling in love with the quirky upstairs neighbor character Serena, and the choice of dangerous men. Lexi is a bada*'. Can't wait for the next one.
this was fucking 👩🏼🍳 💋 OBSESSED is an understatement. thank you laci for the chance to read this piece of art before its release. there’s so much i could say about this book, but overall just PLEASE read this. if you love mafia romance with a bit of a mystery to it, then this is perfect for you
Holy shit. 5 stars is truly not enough for this book. I was sat reading it despite having responsibilities today because I couldn’t go on with anything that I had to do before I finished it. This is definitely a story that will make you feel so many things.
Spice rating for this book is like maybe 3.5/5 which is to say while it has spice it’s very little compared to other books and it’s more plot focused but the spice that it does have is exquisite.
I would honestly say it’s one of my favorite reads of the year.
Spoilers ahead:
Let’s talk about my girl Lexi. The FMC and the absolute Queen of this story. She is an investigative journalist and while exploring leads for a series of articles that she’s writing she meets two guys that are directly involved with the situation. She defo falls for the first guys charms and so did I 😅 I genuinely expected this to be a why choose situation (I went in blind when reading this bc I don’t like spoiling myself) The moment the second guy entered the chat I was immediately way more obsessed with his ass tho. Lexi is an absolute baddie tho and knows exactly how to play a man and wrap them around their finger which is good for someone in her career but in the end she was willing to sacrifice that career for the one she loves, the things she believes in and it was just absolutely beautiful.
Her friends were also well written,Serena and Steph are greatly written side characters that have their own charm to them. And of course I cannot forget about Henry,I love him so much and he deserves all the pets and forehead kisses in the entire world 😂 defo need more Henry content in the next book.
Our MMC (Mateo) is such a green flag in so many ways. It’s kind of funny that he tried so hard to be this badass and sure he could be but in reality he’s such a cutie pie 😭 the way he treats her just makes my heart so happy.
The other MMC or let’s be real the man we were tricked to enjoy at first can lowkey rot in hell. Listen did I cry a bit about him being shot? Sure! BUT he is such a little dick… like I’m sorry you barely just kissed the chick and went on a date and you wanted her to choose you over the green flag guy who was bad bc he had to be?? When you wouldn’t even stand up for the girl?? Be fr my guy. Be fr. Yes Eli had his reasons and that’s cool but he still pissed me the fuck off with his bs. I guess he saved Mateo so he gets a pat on the back for this. A tiny one.
The other side characters:Victor,Maddox,Isaac… TRAVIS. Holy shit I wanted to throw hands so bad. Scum of the earth tbh. But ya that’s the review. I have to step back for a minute and think if I want to add more and I might but this is what I got so far after my first read.
From the dedication, I KNEW I was going to love this book. It was probably 5am before I finally forced myself to put this down so I could finish today. I could not put it down. I just finished reading and I’m actually holding back tears right now with an achey chest because it’s over for now 😭 I need MORE!! Commence book hangover.
Lexi is my spirit animal. I mean, sobbing yourself to sleep and then waking up to rage clean? Need I say more 😂 she’s a total empath, feisty with an “I’ll do it scared” attitude and has a strong sense for justice. She’s so brave. The portrayal of her love, grit, trauma, ptsd was beautiful and painful.
Mateo is officially on my BBFLL (book boyfriend for life list) He is the perfect balance of flawed perfection. He’s a bad boy that has a way with words. The spice gave me chills and his love and care for Lexi was healing for my soul.
I really wanted to like Eli because I feel bad for his situation and he gave me all the feels at first, maybe there will be redemption for him yet… idk he is on my shit list for the time being 😂
You know those books that just bring out physical reactions while you read? I laughed, kicked my feet, squealed, cried and really felt the characters vulnerability, raw pain, trauma, relief, love.. Idk how authors can just wreck me with words. Not all of them do, but this book definitely got me. This might even be a 6 star read for me. I finished it and just sat here processing and wishing I would have read it slower😭❤️ It’s a must read in my opinion!!
Honorable mentions: 🏍️THE MOTORCYCLE SCENE. *catches breath* I’d recommend the book purely based on this alone. You’ll understand if you read. 🐈⬛Serena: I love her goth girl vibes🖤 she’s the best, supportive friend and a tattoo artist to boot! I can just tell her and her fat rescue cat are going to be the focus of the next book and I am SO FREAKING READY.
Dishonorable mention: 🤢Travis the slime-lord: he’s icky, he’s persistent, he deserved much more than he got 👊🏻
Fav moments✨ “Yes—” “If you say ‘yes, ma’am,’ I will fucking castrate you,” she interrupted. I recoiled. “Good lord, Alexandra. Noted.” “I grew up on a ranch. I know how.”
“I stopped at a large black tee with a Sleep Token logo emblazoned on the front, and my lips tipped up. Good taste.”
“Salty tears stained my cheeks, and he kissed them away. “I’m not sure when it happened, Alexandra, but somewhere along the way, I decided I would die for you. And now, if you’ll have me, I want to live for you. With you.”
I received this ALC from Blue Nose Audio and I want to thank them for it. This was my first L.K. Kagey book/audiobook, and I was impressed. This was performed in Duet Multicast by Savannah Thomas, Sean Masters and Gregory Salinas. These narrators were phenomenal. I mean, they really made the characters come to life to me.
This book follows Lexi, an investigative reporter with all the gumption and brains needed as a fiery FMC. She doesn’t back down from anything or anyone. The narrator Savannah Thomas captures her fierce determination and subtle Texas drawl perfectly. She gives her that mix of brains, confidence, and grit that makes her impossible not to root for and totally believe as a character.
Lexi meets Elijah, the smooth-talking “lender” whose charm barely conceals his darker side, and is voiced by Sean Masters; who plays the morally ambiguous role so well you start questioning your own judgment for liking Elijah – and I do. He’s the MMC that I really was rooting for until I met… (see below)
Mateo Garza!!! That’s right, Mateo-FREAKING-Garza. Mateo is everything I want in an MMC – he’s tattooed, pierced, morally gray enforcer who is narrated by Gregory Salinas. His performance had me hanging on every word. The voice was *chef’s kiss* for this character and the chemistry between him and Lexi was pure fire. The tension between them could’ve melted steel and literally having me wish I was Lexi. Can we also talk about that bike scene… and the pool cue… my goodness, I had to pause and collect myself.
This story was a rollercoaster of danger, secrets and unexpected emotions. I especially liked the side characters, like Steph and Serena, who added great balance and personality. And I can’t wait to learn more about Elijah’s brother, Gabe. I also must give a special shout out to the adorable kitty, Henry.
Fast-paced, addictive, and full of twists, Beneath the Surface is the kind of story that keeps your pulse racing and your curiosity burning. I’m so freaking ready for book two.
If you like any of the following, this book is for you: 🏍️Suspenseful romance 🏍️Mafia vibes 🏍️Soft only her 🏍️Possessive MMC 🏍️Exceptional banter 🏍️Touch her and d!e vibes
Where do I even begin with this one! This story was such a fun experience. Following an investigative journalist in a major crime world saga was so much fun. The suspense and drama in this story was balanced perfectly. I was Hooked from page one. Lexi was one determined journalist. She was going to solve this case and break the story not matter what it took. Meeting Elijah “randomly” set everything in motion. Elijah oh Elijah 🫠! I would have loved to see more of that storyline because I have A feeling it would have been 🔥🔥. Although I don’t know if I could not see Mateo have his spotlight. Lexi was one lucky lady though that’s for sure.
I loved that Lexi helped Mateo find his voice. Find the man he needed to be. He was so resistant for so long but when it was all said and done I think he made the best choice for himself.
The way the whole crime aspect unfolded had me on the edge of my seat. It held me captive desperate to see how it would all play out. I’m proud of Lexi for standing up for herself against everyone. She is one strong FMC.
all the characters were perfect in this story. The side charecters were fantastic! I really enjoyed the audio as well. The casting was perfect. I’m clearly on a Sean masters kick because he has narrated my last 4 audio books. The man can literally do it all! Savannah Thomas did a phenomenal job as well brining Lexi to life. Ofcourse we cannot forget Gregory Salina’s he was a perfect Mateo. Every time I heard his voice I smiled. The casting for this again was perfect!
I cannot Wait for the next book. I hope Gabe makes a bigger appearance in that one ! The fact that this was L.K Kagey debut novel is outstanding it was amazing! I cannot Wait to see what else she has in store for her readers!
🎧⭐️ALC Review⭐️🎧 Overall Thoughts: This book is different from my normal repertoire of romance books with this one leaning more mystery/thriller, and I really enjoyed it. This was my first book by L. K. and I am looking forward to book 2 in this duet. The story was fun and engaging and kept you on your toes. Savannah has grown to be one of my favorite narrators and she did an excellent job as Lexi. Sean seems to be in my ears a lot this month, not that I’m complaining and truly brought Eli to life. It’s been a long time since I listen to a book narrated by Greg and I am going to have to make sure that doesn’t happen again. His portrayal of Mateo was incredible. Definetly looking forward to more from this author…her dedication was epic too!
Tropes: Dark, love triangle, investigative journalist, powerful family, “lender”, Texas, death of a sibling (not on page), t0rture, v!olence, love triangle-ish, crazy BFF, insta lust, he falls first
Lexi is an investigative journalist and is looking into some mysterious fires that have been taking the city by storm, but no one seems to be doing anything about it, so she does some snooping. One night coming back from a night out, she meets Eli outside her building.
Eli works for a powerful family in Austin, as a lender/collector, and Lexi has peaked his interest, so when the family finds out that a journalist is looking into them having a connection to the fire, they send their son/enforcer, to keep an eye on her.
Mateo is instantly drawn to Lexi and she knows he is bad news, given who his family is and the piece she is working on. Lexi leans on Mateo to get closer to finding the answers she is desperate for, but when their world collide, it is more than just lust that sparks between them.
⭐️ — 3.25 🌶️ — 3.5 (only rating it slightly higher than I would due to one random scene that felt out of place)
Honestly, I’m not too sure how I feel about this book.
The story follows Lexi an investigative journalist who is trying to uncover the truth about the random fires popping up throughout downtown Austin’s local businesses.
But all hell breaks loose in her life when she meets the damn fine cowboy, Elijah. With him follows the chaos of his life and in meeting Lexi, he drops that chaos right at her door, wrapped in a pretty bow.
And by pretty bow, I mean tall, dark, handsome and disturbingly broody. With Mateo Garza now her ever constant shadow, she finds herself not only between two disgustingly delicious men but also between two worlds where once she steps into the darker one, she will never be able to go back.
But a journalist has gotta do what she’s got to in the name of justice for the folk of Austin, right?
So, all in all, I loved the characters. However, I think the execution in their storylines could’ve been better as I found it a smidge unbelievable. To me, it felt as if we needed to dive deeper into their relationships before anything nefarious happened. And I wish we got to see a little bit of the brute side from Mateo before him and Lexi hit it off. I did enjoy how he is a morally grey man who doesn’t enjoy doing the things he does — that was different to me!
The beginning of the book was superb and I truly thought it was going to be a 5 star read but the middle fell flat to me and the ending was a little too rushed. I know there’s going to be more to the story in the next one but I did feel this one was lacking in depth and needed a bit more exploration to get to the final conclusion.
Overall, an enjoyable read!

This is book one in the Flame and Frost Duet, preformed in Duet Multicast. The way I can’t wait for book two!
I would 💯 classify this as a romantic suspense and I was sucked in from the beginning. This was the perfect mix of emotion, trauma, romance, banter and suspense.
L.K. Kagey really had me on my toes and as soon as you think you have the book figured out…think again!
The FMC was the whole package. Her honesty and feistiness had me in love with her from the beginning. The narrator, Savannah Thomas, truly captured her perfectly! The emotion in her voice was incredible.
Lexi is an investigative journalist with a traumatic past. She starts investigating local fires… and she really doesn’t know what she is diving into. You just have to listen to it to get the full picture!
Elijah, narrated by Sean Masters, is a “private” lender. Sean Masters captured his persona perfectly and that slight southern drawl 🫠🔥 the way he really showed his emotion and constant battle within himself. 👏🏻 he outdid himself!
Mateo, oldest son in the Garza family, narrated by Gregory Salinas. I don’t even have words! He was everything! The battle between being good but living up to what he was programmed to be. He captured his rawness and not to mention that voice 🔥 when the spice was there it was THERE!
I 💯 will recommend this audiobook. It had me in all my feels. The twists and turns kept me on my toes!
Thank you to the author L.K. Kagey as well as the narrators Savannah Thomas, Sean Master, Gregory Salinas and of course Blue Nose Audio for the opportunity to ALC this. As always my reviews are honest and 100% my own! 🖤
Activate new book boyfriend, husband, man crush and thirst trap!!!! Matteo is OMG!!!!!!! If you don’t want to (mentally) climb this man like a spider monkey then we can’t be friends!!! J/s….
Ok, so Lexi is journalist that’s a work-a-holic and gets drug out one weekend by her bestie. This my friends is the start to a crazy beautiful book!!! While out she meets someone that is going to change her life forever……..
When you think this will be a who will she choose book you realize real fast there was never any real competition. Like really no one can compare to Matteo (climb me) Garza!!!
This is a true story of secrets, lies and organized crime. When assignments get too personal. When lines get crossed, hearts get broken and trust is crushed.
Laci wrote this to perfection. It heats up at the perfect time and then slows down just enough to give you the backstory needed for character development. Then bam we are off and running from the gate again!!! So, I am a true dark romance girly to my core but I have to admit while I love me a villain, I also love it when that villain can show her a side to him/her that no one else sees and vice versa. This book has everything and I mean everything I have come to love in reading. It’s is pure perfection!!! Like can we give more than recommended stars and support our authors who obviously pour their heart into books like this one pls??!!??
Thank you so much Laci for letting me read this one early. It truly is a wonderful book and can’t wait to read more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🚩🚩🚩 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Overall, this was 4.5/5 Stars, Goodreads, will only let you do solid numbers but this was almost a five star read for me. I had a great time reading this book and I want to say congratulations to my friend L.K. Kagey. This was a great debut novel for her. I had a great time with it again. The characters in this book were so believable and had so much structure. I loved our FMC throughout the book. She is probably one of my favorite FMC‘s of this year kind of a little premise on her she is a reporter/investigator for a local news outlet and she’s investigating some fires going on around town and that leads to her getting pulled ain’t too kind of this underworld/mafia feeling scenario. My favorite character though throughout this book was Mateo, I loved him so much and I love his relationship with our FMC Lexi and I feel like their chemistry was just so well written. I loved the spice in this book between those two characters spice was spicing There was one specific chapter that had me just wide eyeing as I read it, and I thought I had seen it all with things being used during spicy time. I did not expect the item being used to be used and it made it so much better. Again, congratulations to my friend L.K Kagey, thank you so much for allowing me to be able to read your debut novel early and I can’t wait to see what future books that you have coming for us. This is 100% a book that I’m going to recommend to anybody and that I would tell anybody to immediately add to their Amazon cart or add to wherever you buy books because this is a must read book!!!!!
Narrated by Savannah Thomas, Sean Masters and Gregory Salinas, I was in heaven.
Lexi is a journalist in a small town in Texas when a series of businesses seem to burn down in rapid succession all over. Has the journalist interviewing the business owners, she noticed certain patterns that made her suspicious.
She meets Eli one night at a bar and they hit it off, Eli definitely falling immediately. What he doesn't count on is Mateo, one of the sons of the prominent town family, taking his assignment to ''watch'' Lexi so literally. Mateo inserts himself into Lexi's life, revealing that he and Eli both work for Mateo's father. Eli had lied to Lexi about knowing the Garza family and how they make their money, and she booted Eli from her life.
Mateo used that to his advantage and filled that hole, capturing Lexi's attention.
I did not expect Lexi to fall for Mateo, fully thought it was going to be Eli so being wrong was a nice surprise.
I wasn't sure about the background of Lexi's life being relevant to the story as a whole, but in the end, that history does come back to lead into the next book.
The audio by Blue Nose was once again on point. I love duel narration so much. I had just listened to Thomas and Masters on another story where they both had Russian accents so to hear them in this one with southern drawls was so fun. Adding Salinas into the mix had my ears ringing with the dirty things Mateo did to Lexi.
Blue Nose gifted this to me as an ALC and I can't wait for more.

When I say this book is suspenseful I mean it. There are so many twists, turns, and surprises while Lexi uncovers the truth. Be ready to laugh, cuss, and cry throughout the book.
Alexandra Thompson is an investigative journalist that has been covering the mysterious fires happening in her town. Someone is starting them and she is determined to find out who it is. In doing so she runs into a handsome cowboy named Elijah and discovers he’s somehow connected to the ones behind it. Her involvement with him causes her to become someone to watch by Victor Garza. He sends his son Mateo to watch her and report back anything he sees. Mateo knows his father is a bad man and does as he’s told, he just didn’t know that while watching Lexi he would start to become protective of her. Oh this book had me locked in from the second I started reading it. I was an Elijah girl at first until I realized he was a coward and the reason Lexi was pulled into this mess with the Maddox and Garza family. Thank goodness for Mateo stepping up to protect her when Eli wouldn’t. Sure Mateo is a bad boy and the enforcer (not by choice) for his father Victor, but when it comes to Lexi he can’t help the pull between them and the feelings that are growing for her. One night of letting his guard down and someone tipping off Victor would cost him everything. Luckily Lexi is able to convince Eli to help her uncover the truth when Mateo walks away. But Eli has a secret that will shock you.
Touch her and ☠️ all the banter multi POV trauma romantic suspense

This book had me in its grasp! Had me feeling all my feels. I laughed, kicked my feet, squealed, cried and really felt the characters vulnerability, the raw pain, the trauma, relief, love.. Idk how authors can wreck me with words. But I was invested. This book definitely got me. I listened to the audio and the voice actors did fantastic! Such perfection! I love Sean masters and will listen to anything he works on. And he did fantastic at bringing Elijah’s character to life. Savannah Thomas was amazing! And Gregory Selina’s as Mateo was the topping on the cake! Perfect cast! I enjoyed every minute of this audio! The spicy scenes Wes 🧑🍳 💋I would 💯 recommend this read and 10000% recommend the audio book!!
Beneath the Surface is the first book in the Flame and Frost Duet. We have Lexi, performed by Savannah Thomas, who's an investigative journalist starting to look into some suspicious fires around town. Unfortunately, her research catches the attention of a dangerous family that doesn't take kindly to her digging into their secrets. Savannah really brought Lexi's take no sh*t attitude to life and poured so much emotion into her performance. Then there's Elijah, performed by Sean Masters. He's the charming, smooth-talking lender who crosses paths with Lexi and has some secrets of his own. Sean always nails the growly MMC vibe. His range is impressive, he can go from playing the confident cowboy to the more reserved man answering to someone more powerful, and he does it effortlessly. We also meet Mateo Garza, performed by Gregory Salinas-the eldest son of the powerful Garza family, and someone Lexi definitely tried to steer clear of. Gregory did an amazing job playing Mateo as both the stone-cold killer and the softer side that's only for her. As soon as Mateo was introduced, I knew I was going to love him and he just kept getting better. Initially, I caught a bit of a love triangle vibe, which I don't enjoy. But pretty quickly, I figured out who the real love interest was-and I wasn't complaining one bit. Blue Nose did another fantastic job with the production as always. I really appreciate the chance to listen to this story and these phenomenal narrators!!
🖤 Touch her and 💀 🖤 all the banter 🖤 multi POV 🖤 trauma 🖤 romantic suspense
Favorite quote:
“I’m not sure when it happened, Alexandra, but somewhere along the way, I decided I would die for you. And now, if you’ll have me, I want to live for you. With you.”
I absolutely ate this one up. It is the perfect blend of romance, suspense and spice. It has a snarky FMC and a possessive MMC. And the side characters are top tier.
Lexi is an investigative journalist looking into suspicious fires happening to local businesses. This leads her into dangerous territory with Garza family. She finds herself mixed up with Mateo who is the eldest son of the Garza family and Elijah a lender who is in deep with the family. It’s messy and feelings develop that shouldn’t and it gets messier. I don’t want to say more and ruin the suspense.
And as an audiobook? Absolute perfection!
Savanah Thomas did a perfect job capturing Lexi’s personality. Sean Masters was fantastic as Elijah. And Gregory Salinas as Mateo was everything. This cast together is a 10/10. And the spicy scenes were phenomenal.
Definitely grab this audiobook it’s a fast paced listen that will keep you on your toes. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Thank you L.K. Kagey and Bluenose for the opportunity to ALC this one. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own 🖤.

The story captures your attention immediately thanks to the colorful and descriptive way the author writes. Definitely a page turner and makes it difficult to put down. There are so many twists and turns in the story it left me on the edge of my seat. I found myself laughing, crying and raging throughout the story. I wanted to step in there and slap a few people myself. The story is filled with psychological suspense, dark humor, crimes, mob vibes and an emotional journey.
This is an absolutely incredible book and the author didn’t leave any small details out. Definitely will be looking for more from this author!
I love a good story that grabs your attention and keeps it until the end. This story definitely done that with the suspense and twists. It also had great characters. And not just the main characters. The family and friends in this were great too. The chemistry between Mateo and Lexi was 🔥 and the way they were with each other had my heart melting. My heart broke for Elijah though despite the ways he messed up. I mean, I get it but, I have mixed feelings about it all. He wasn’t the only one to make mistakes and he just couldn’t seem to catch a break. And his brother Gabe.. I need more! We don’t get to know a lot about him but, the way this ended I’m intrigued. I can’t wait for the next book and to find out how things continue for all these characters! This one had me in so many of my feels and I loved it!
The audiobook was performed in Duet Multicast by Savannah Thomas, Sean Masters and Gregory Salinas. They killed it! The way they captured so many characters along with their personalities and emotions was perfection! I love how well their voices fit the characters and complimented each other. They really brought this story to life!
