Cause and Effect

At the end of UNLIKE ME, I was disappointed that the book seemingly just ended. I wondered if we'd find out what happened between Bree, Dez and Rowe.

Luckily, SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN picks right up. However it's been awhile since I've read the book, so it took me a few to remember what had happened.

Dez, Bree's husband, returned. She'd already started playing house with her ex, Rowe, but she chose to honor her commitment and went home. While on the surface it appeared that everything was back to normal, Bree was far from happy. When Dez proposed a plan intent on making her happy, Bree was skeptical.

Uncertain that she chose the right man, Bree feels herself wallowing in regret as Rowe is now conducting business with Monica, her assistant, which further complicates things, or does it?

Rowe didn't fight for his relationship with Bree. He loves her, but he was tired of playing second. When Monica made herself available, Rowe allowed her to position herself into his life. While Monica is gesturing towards forever, Rowe is still dreaming about happily ever after with Bree. Can he continue to fake it until he feels it?

SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN was a good follow-up. My main issue was in the editing department. A few times I had to read things over. I also get the sense that this is NOT the last time we've heard from these characters.

The title is an accurate description of how I felt at the end. The story was not as satisfying as the others I've read by this author. I loved the dialog and the humor was well placed and we'll done. The characters were consistent from the first book however there wasn't the growth I expected and that isn't necessarily a negative because it is probably more true to real life than what is usually found in this genre. I'm still a Rae Lamar fan. I read her more recent works before this book and there has been tremendous growth in her work since publishing this story.

I really love this author's writing style and I have enjoyed all of her books that I have read thus far but the ending of this book was quite unexpected and I am not happy with it at all. That being said it was still well-written and a good book overall. I just personally did not like how it ended.
