Each little story is a morsel to be savored, and I tried not to rush through this book like I usually do. The beautiful feeling of peace and contentment after reading one of the parables (and the questions and suggestions following) soon disappears like sand through my hands. Even writing this review is a good example ~ I clicked away for a second, and when I returned, the app had refreshed itself and my words had vanished. My usual rage bubbled up, which is actually hilarious given that I had just nodded along to the idea of allowing things to be how they are. The words were still there, inside my mind, and I simply typed them again.

PS: I see some talk about books by “Kai” being AI. Maybe that’s true, but it doesn’t change how I feel when reading the various vignettes and ideas that follow them. It is vaguely disappointing though in general that there is no label on such writing. Since I am not sure, I will leave the 5 stars here untouched.

I've loved Beauty in the Zen by Kai Tsukimi. Reading collections of short Zen stories has become a go-to antidote for the endless scroll of social media that could otherwise fill my downtime.
What makes this book so special is its accessibility. Each story is beautifully concise and easy to digest, making it perfect for reading in those small pockets of time throughout the day—waiting for coffee to brew, riding the bus, or those few minutes before bed. Instead of mindlessly doom scrolling through my phone, I've been reaching for this book, and it's made such a difference in how I feel.
The Zen stories themselves are thoughtful without being preachy, offering gentle wisdom that lingers with you long after you've closed the book. Tsukimi has a gift for distilling profound insights into simple, elegant narratives that don't require you to be a philosophy expert to appreciate.
If you're looking to break the social media habit and replace it with something more nourishing for your mind and spirit, I highly recommend giving Beauty in the Zen a try. It's proof that meaningful reading doesn't have to be a huge time commitment—sometimes the shortest stories carry the deepest truths.
Highly recommended for: Anyone seeking mindful moments, fans of Zen philosophy, and those looking to cultivate healthier screen-time habits.

This book was definitely written by ChatGPT.

When I started studying Buddhism on my own, it was funny to see how many quotes I saw floating around were wrongly attributed to Buddha, so many that there used to be a website dedicated to checking and debunking these. A lot of the stuff we see around in popular self help culture and literature that gets attributed to Buddha was never said or practiced by him. Some are the exact opposite of what Buddhism teaches.
Anyway, this book starts with such a quote.
The ChatGPT style of writing made it difficult to read this and the misquoted part is where I stopped.
Kai Tsukimi probably is not even their real name. I haven't checked all the other books by this author but judging them by their AI generated covers, they were all written in the same way.

I get it, it's a way to make money, passive income and all that but AI made content should have a label or something.

What is Zen? In essence, it means to find oneself and to be the calm, collected center of the universe, particularly when everything around you seems chaotic. Zen is difficult to attain, and many spend their whole life trying to find it. The world and its many small distractions get in the way of the Zen state. However, it is still possible to get to this point if you learn to reject the voices of criticism that often come from both inside and out.

This is a collection of short, simple stories. Each one delivers a powerful message about what it is to be Zen. By reading and considering them, you should find plenty to occupy your mind. It is the simplicity of the message behind these stories that should enable you to look at your life in new and profound ways.

True Zen is the practice of returning to the present self, to the present moment, to the naturalness, intimacy, and simplicity of our true nature. Zen practice isn't about withdrawing from life as it is; it's about entering it as it is, with all its intensity, beauty, difficulties, joy, and sadness. That's why author Tsukimi shares 21 stories to help us refocus on ourselves and our present.
I'd never practiced Zen before, but after reading this book and understanding what its practice entails, I'm going to get more involved. I believe the values at stake are highly commendable. I also believe it's a practice that should be carried out with great respect and dedication. I recommend this book to all those interested in Zen practice and to all those interested in delving into it.

I have no prior knowledge of Zen, but this book was a pleasant surprise: accessible, clear, and very comforting. It captivated me from the first story with its simplicity and depth. I tend to be quite hard on myself, and this book made me pause that critical inner voice a bit. I was able to change my viewpoint, develop self-compassion, and understand that not everything needed to be flawless to be worthwhile.

Each page pushes you to take a deep breath, embrace reality, and find beauty in the imperfect and broken. It was very beneficial when I needed some calm and a more positive self-image. This is a book I intend to open more than once. It's something I strongly suggest.

The book I needed, I have been feeling for a long time that I am not doing anything right and very overwhelmed by the internal dialogue I am having, but this book came to change everything. I loved it because they are stories that help you feel connected and related, which in my case helped me a lot to understand aspects of my life that I should improve and especially how that self-criticism does nothing but sink us. I highly recommend this reading, it is an incredible way to reconnect with our purposes and above all with what you are doing with your life, leading you to be a little kinder with your words and thoughts.

Beauty In The Zen is a collection of stories that share a common goal: To embrace our mistakes and transform them into strength.

Kai Tsukimi writes peacefully, bringing joy and tranquillity to the soul. It was my first encounter with this type of narrative, and I found it profound and authentic. It's one of those books perfect to read when you're having a bad day, one short story a day is enough to analyze life from a different point of view.

Overall, it was a gratifying read. It gives new tools to embrace imperfection and accept the negative aspects of life from a refreshing mentality.

Great Book

This book is perfect to read during those moments when our mind and ourselves are not the best of friends. It helps the reader find silence and have meaningful conversations with themselves. The fact that it’s made up of several stories within one book makes it much easier to read, allowing the reader to open it at any moment and find a touching, hopeful, and uplifting message. I loved this book—it gave me a sense of peace and inner quiet. This book guides the reader to connect with themselves and invites them to reflect. A great book, and highly recommended.

The stories are okay, especially those who don’t explain themselves. The lessons are repetitive and mostly obvious. Might have been better had there been one short afterward or forward about letting go.

I love all three of the Zen books

All three of the Zen books are gentle reminders to live a calmer, more peaceful life...and finding a way to do that. Very nice stories to learn or remind.
