I picked this book up because of the catchy premise: the shy, studious girl gets the most popular guy in school but later ends up with his older brother?! Well, color me intrigued. Unfortunately, this book was SO far from what I anticipated it to be I was relieved that I finally finished. Don’t get me wrong, the groundwork of the story is a good one, but this book completely lacks depth: the writing was choppy, certain scenes got cut off at the most pivotal moments, and plot was severely underdeveloped. The story was more sweet and clichéd than I expected from reading the blurb and had I not been in the mood for something lighthearted, I’m pretty sure my rating would be even lower.

Before I launch into a tirade of complaints, I do want to point out a couple of positives this book had in case you’re thinking of reading it. For one, both main characters were likable and they made a really strong couple so the heartfelt scenes with them together? Thumbs up. Raine is such a resilient heroine and Jarret (the older brother) is a softhearted bad boy who stood up for her when she didn’t have anyone. There were a couple of scenes that really tugged on my heartstrings and some that made me smile.

description

At this point, this book was a solid 3-3.5 star read, nothing extraordinary but nothing bad either. The last 50% of the book is what really made me lower my rating. I loved that both of these characters were kindhearted people but that quality became their downfall here, letting everyone roll over them including each other and both made some unnecessary out-of-character decisions. Spoiler rant  When I finished the book, I felt extremely unsatisfied. The best way to explain it is I felt like I was reading a very rough draft of the book. Important moments/conversations that you’d expect to read about are left off and the story immediately jumps into a new chapter.

Maybe the book was too YA for me. Maybe it really is a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me. But what I’m chalking it up to is my high book standards – this book offered nothing great to me in terms of plot, emotion, or reading satisfaction and the fact that the writing didn’t stand out to me either makes this book a very unmemorable read overall. Since I am literally the only person who didn’t like the book, I say still give it a try if you want. But to my like-minded friends (you know who you are) if you read this one, I’m afraid you’ll end up feeling the same way as me.

** JEN'S 5 STAR REVIEW **

“This was the classic case of poor girl meets rich boy and rich boy saves poor girl from total ruin.”

But this story goes deeper then that. So much deeper.

As the synopsis warns us: RAINE contains adult situations some readers may find offensive. This is a deeply emotional story that contains violence, explicit sex, strong language, and is not considered suitable for readers under 18. Lies are told, hearts get broken, secrets are revealed, and sometimes, true love is found in the least likely places.

This only scratches the surface of what the author gave us in this emotional story.

This is a story of a girl who was somewhat an outcast in school. Invisible, not ugly but not stunning. Where the most popular boy in school suddenly takes interest in her. You see where this is going? A cruel joke that goes way beyond some popular boy who accepts a bet. Unbeknownst to her, her whole life changes prom night. She finds herself alone, defeated, cast away and called a whore. She is forced to pick up the pieces and try to move on with her life. However it’s not an easy road.

This is a story about a brooding guy who’s life changes the second an angelic looking girl stumbles into his room. He is nothing like his family, nothing like his egotistical brother. When Jarret finds out how Raine’s been living, trying to survive on her own and dealing with the after math of that night, he quickly takes it upon himself to help her. He is determined to make sure she is safe. He will do anything it takes to protect her and care for her even when she makes it difficult for him to do so. The attraction he feels for her overwhelms him and he struggles with wanting his brother’s ex- girlfriend. Jarret doesn’t know all the details about what happened between Raine and his brother but the pull he has towards her is something he can’t deny.

Raine has a hard time accepting help and after what she’s been through I completely admired her strength and determination to make it on her own. However, when Jarret really insinuates himself into her life she has no choice but to accept what he’s offering. Even if it’s just for a little while.

Jarret is amazingly supportive, patient and caring. He is that kind of guy you hope your sons grow up to be. Ones that do the right thing even when everyone around them is telling them different. He didn’t have to help Raine or be her lifeline if you will but he knew that it wouldn’t be right if he walked away or cast her aside like everyone else had. His friendship and love were just perfect. Even when he falters every now and then you can really see that he is all heart. When everything comes to a head will Jarret be able to quiet the little doubts he has? Which side will he choose when he finds out what really happened that faithful night? Will he be able to walk away from everything he’s known for Raine?

I love when a book gives you a sense of growth within the characters. The author did a wonderful job developing these characters. It made them feel that much more real, raw and relatable. The subject matter isn’t always easy to read. There are some pretty real life situations that go on within this book and I really think the author did a wonderful job showcasing these issues. It’s not always pretty. I was disgusted and horrified at times and I wanted to reach into my kindle and punch a few characters. This one truly will have you running off so many emotions.

The prologue will suck you in, the epilogue will have you smiling and wanting to give your kindle a big old hug while everything in between will have you glued to the pages. Raine and Jarret’s story is one you do not want to miss out on. This book was truly written so well that there won’t be a moment where you aren’t connected and plugged in. Definitely one you will want to pick up. You won’t be disappointed.

It should be stated that this book contains mature themes and as such probably shouldn’t be read by someone really young, or anyone who has issues with rape and the trauma that comes from an experience like that.

Normally for me, given personal experience, that would be a no go for me, but I stepped out of my comfort zone in order to read this for two reasons. It’s JC Valentine and any book I’ve read by her hasn’t let me down yet, and secondly, Raine is my daughter’s name and just based off that I wanted to read it so much I was willing to dive in head first without reservations.

I was not disappointed.

This story follows Raine and Jarret, two characters from seemingly two different sides of the tracks, yet brought together by one life altering experience and on their road to finding their own personal happily ever after, we get to see them change, and grow and learn to love again, despite all of the challenges and darkness that seemed to mar their way at the start.

The characters were very well developed and the pacing was out of this world. It all ran together so smooth, one minute I was ten percent in and I swear I blinked and was almost done. It was that great of a book in both of these ways.

Raine…my heart went out to her. Right off the jump, it just ACHED for her and everything that she was going through, but I also wanted to high five my kindle because her strength, what made her such an engaging character, it was beautiful to see. She had the heart of a mother long before she was one, if that makes sense. No matter what obstacle, how rough things got, she never lost sight of who she was and she didn’t change in a drastic way that would have turned me off her. She made me love her right from the start until the end.

Jarret. I love characters that come alive on the page, especially male ones that are flawed, yet beautiful because of those flaws. Was he perfect? No. He made a few missteps in this story, things that made me wanna smack sense into him, but ones he also acknowledged and attempted to change, which spoke volumes to me at how REAL these characters really were. He was not a “fairy tale” prince, at least not in the traditional sense, but from the way I would write a prince, he was definitely that and more. He had a heart that was just so beautiful that it was hard not to fall in love with him instantly, even if he was screwing up.

The issues that were spoken about in this book, the ones I alluded to at the beginning of the review and even ones you’ll see the deeper you go into it, the author handled them with such grace that it made me love her more. She didn’t trivialize any of it, gloss over it or try and write around it. She opened the door, let you see behind the velvet rope into a mind of someone who has been through it and shined a light on what a lot of women face, both reporting it after the fact, or choosing not to and also what they experience during the act and after it for years to come. My hat is off to her for handling these things the way she did. Fantastic and she’s earned even more of my respect.

Thank you JC for writing such a beautiful, heart wrenching yet real tale of love and the sometimes rocky road that we face to get to where we need to be. It was an experience I will take with me always and a book I will definitely be reading over and over again. You have outdone yourself.

Definite 5* Read for me. I would love to give it more, but 5 will have to do for now <3

I'm not sure this review can even do the book justice, but I'm definitely gonna try. Just pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

Raine-Teaser-9
J.C. Valentine sure knows how to create a male that is not only drool worthy in looks, but a dream come true in every way imaginable. Leading characters like Raine and Jarret are ones that are unforgettable, enjoyable in every way and have the ability to break your heart as well as heal it. Their story is not a traditional one, hell it may not even be one that you hear of in this lifetime. But it is one that is worth reading, one that has topped the charts for me, and made me believe that even in the darkest of times, the light will shine through again - especially if a man like Jarret has anything to say about it.
The next best thing to forgetting the past was forging a new future.

Raine Forester isn’t one of the popular girls in high school. A bit of a loner, she keeps to herself and abides by the rules of her very Christian parents. Her kind hearted nature has her seeing the best in everyone, but her fiery temper has ensured she isn’t a doormat for the meaner crowd. When the most handsome, popular boy in school suddenly takes an interest in her, she is cautiously optimistic. Cameron Moss may have good looks and money, but is he really as good a guy as he pretends to be? The more time they spent together, the more he knocks down her walls until she falls hopelessly in love. When their relationship takes a horrifying turn for the worse, Raine broken heartedly realizes she was never anything more than a joke to Cam, just another conquest. Refusing to be nothing more than a humiliation, she bravely carries the shame of what Cam put her through proudly. Until….two little lines change her life irrevocably.
She’d just made the second toughest decision in her life by turning down that money, the first being the decision to become a mother.

When Jarret Moss first lays eyes on Raine, he immediately dismisses her as another annoying side piece of his brother’s. After a few minutes of captivating banter, his opinion is changed and he starts to see the real girl she is. A fragile bond is formed and when the darkness descends on Raine, Jarret is is the light that pulls her through. As Cameron’s older brother, the situation couldn’t be more complicated if the two ended up secret siblings (imagine THAT!). Jarret can’t help but feel like a man in the wrong for how he feels for Raine, but she is the spark his life was missing, the other half he didn’t know he was searching for. When she is in dire need of a protector, someone to take care of her, he is more than up to the task. And ladies, who wouldn’t swoon over an overly buffed, tattooed man ready to take on the whole world just for you? Pregnant or not, you’re damn right he’s a man that can scorch the panties right off a girl.
She’d probably be pissed if he told her he’d been there all along, watching her like a creepy stalker while she slept.

This book has a bit of the dark intertwined in the love story. I love a little mystery, I love angst, and I love reading things that aren’t all peachy keen happy days are here again. Real life isn’t like that, its hard and sometimes blindingly painful. Step through the pain with these two, through the rain - they just might find their sun.

This is a hard review for me to write because I loved this book so much that it's hard to really get my thoughts together about it. From the summary, you can probably guess what happens to Raine that is "unforgiveable", but I won't reveal it in case you didn't figure it out.

I've read a lot of books where this type of "event" has happened in the plot, including a book I read not long ago which I ended up DNF'g. Whether I like this type of book or not depends largely on how the victim reacts. Bear n mind, I know there are different reactions out there, but when a person just totally goes off the rails and does nothing to help themselves or move past it, I have a hard time connecting with them. Raine was the perfect example of the type of heroine I love to read in this time of issue.

She did not spend the entire book whining about her circumstances... and let me tell you, she could have. This event causes HER to be ostracized, kicked out of her family's home and pretty much sleeping in her car with nowhere to go and no money to take care of herself. She does not wallow in her circumstances though. She has pride in herself. She works hard to rise above. She does what she has to do. She was strong and determined. I absolutely loved her!!

Then there was Jarrett, the older brother of Cameron who was involved in the event. Jarrett was an amazing hero for Raine. Aside from being amazingly sexy, tattooed and all around gorgeous, he was sweet and caring. He is the only person who gives her a chance, lifts a finger to help her, and it's not his problem to take care of. But it doesn't matter. The scenes between these two were also very very hot!

I loved the writing in this story, loved the plot, fell in love with the two main characters...just loved everything. It was touching, tragic, and then sweet. Kudos to the author for taking on such a difficult topic and doing such an amazing job with it. Loved this book.

This book is powerful. It makes you really think about the actions we take, the judgments we pass on others. Most of the time in life we don’t know we even do it, but what if we took the 20 minutes to get to know their story? Would our opinion change?

I LOVED these characters. They were original, had their own impressions of each other, and were just stubborn enough to make the whole story real. The writing made you feel what the characters were feeling, made you want to give them a big hug when they were down, or nut punch the guy who is being a total ass. Raine, she has this innocence about her that will make you want to take her in, and protect her from all the worlds evils.

There are some things in Raine that are hard to deal with, so I know this book won’t be for everyone. But I strongly suggest you give it a try. It is a story of overcoming your past and letting others in. Healing and love. Hope and trust. ~ Devlynn, 4.5 stars

When I started reading Raine, I thought I knew how it would play out but I was wrong!!!

I loved seeing Jarret and Raine interact with each other, get to know each other, and seeing Raine learn to trust and truly recognize Jarret's true colors. I have to say, Jarret captured my heart with everything that he did for Raine, and for himself, never asking anything in return!!

Oh, the epilogue left me with a big O smile and had me swooning for them both. Thank you for such a beautiful story of second chances, JC Valentine. I definitely can't wait for whatever else you bring us in the future. ~ Kara, 4.5 Beautifully Hot Stars

These characters, Raine and Jarret were believable and the circumstances so real that it had my emotions spinning around.

Raine is quiet and shy. She didn’t seem to fit anywhere with any particular group until she was asked out by the top jock—Cameron Moss. Not completely fitting in with Cameron’s friends but going through the motions, her life changes forever the night of prom. He told her he loved her. Now, she’s pregnant and totally alone.

That is, until one day, she finds comfort from a surprising source, Jarret Moss, Cameron’s older brother. Their journey was anything but smooth, but so worth it.

I would recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual situations and strong language. In addition, it contains violence and rape, and the author warns that some readers might find the content offensive.

I have read other books from Mrs. Valentine and couldn’t wait to read this one. She didn’t disappoint me. I couldn’t put it down from the minute I picked it up.

Raine Forester was the quiet girl that no one really paid attention to, until the day Camron Moss came into her life. The events that happen on the night of the senior prom will forever bond them together.

When Camron insisted that Raine is not carrying his child, Raine has been kicked out of her home and has been living in her car.

One night when Raine insisted on talking to Camron about the child, it turned very ugly. When she left Camron’s older brother Jarret followed her to her car. The last time she saw him was at the after party he hosted for the senior prom for his brother Camron.

He invited Raine to come stay with him in his home. The events that happen will tug at your heart. Valentine is an amazing writing and she makes me want to keep reading.

Oh my, what to say about Raine? This book was wonderful, that's what I'll say! At first, I was concerned that the story line would be too cliche; nerdy girl, jock guy, mean girls, etc... however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case. The story was told with a fresh perspective and I appreciated that. From the start, I loved Raine (the character). She was so easy to relate to. I loved her strength in dealing with all that happened to her and her courage in continuing on a difficult path. And Jarrett...what to say about Jarrett? He was wonderful, and hot, and sweet, and sexy, and just perfect for Raine! I loved this book and the characters in it! The couple gets their much deserved HEA and I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read!

2.5 - 3 stars? What is there to say about this book? Unpopular girl falls for popular rich boy. Boy rapes girl during a heavy make out session. Then informs her it was all a bet. Girl gets pregnant, parents don't believe her and kick her out because they are so religious. WTF?? Girl has hardly nothing to her name and lives in a dump. Popular boys brother is different from his asshole family and wants to help her. Girl refuses! But after her car breaks down she stays with the brother. They start to have feelings for each other. Bla bla bla! I started skimming a lot because I was bored!

Here you have a book that touches on subject matter that some readers may find uncomfortable, but saying that it is written in a very tasteful way.

As soon as you start reading the pages pull you in, you can connect to the characters. It is beautifully written and an easy to follow storyline.

A book that everyone should read.

I'm a huge fan of J C Valentines books and have read them all. When I saw the cover to Raine and read the blurb, it sounded like a YA book and nothing like what her books are usually like. As I love J C Valentine books I thought I'd still read it even though I was thinking it wouldn't live up to my expectations.......BUT my goodness was I wrong!! This book was not for YA in my eyes at least and I'll explain why thoughout my review. And I never should of judged a book by its cover. This book had so many layers and and so much more complex then I ever thought I could of imagined.
The epilogue pretty much tells you the ending from the start, but the middle is what your be wanting to get to.
Raine Is a very shy girl, she follows all the rules and does everything everything is expected of her always. She's average looking, but some how she has managed to be the girl friend of Cameron the most popular boy in her school?? Know body can understand why , including Raine herself.
I hate Cameron!!!
He is the the boy in school that everybody wants to be with. Tall, gorgeous, athletic, star quarter back, class president and comes from one of the wealthiest families in his town. Cameron acted liked he really like Raine, she would be with his friends when he's with them, but know body spoke to her. Raine was never comfortable in their relationship as she couldn't understand why he would want her either. So she has been holding back having sex with him, even though he really wants too.
On the night of their prom, Cameron left Raine alone to be with his friends, and in the process the cheerleader and and stuck up horrible girls were being horrible. Raine always stood back and just took all what they said to here because she always remembered her mother saying 2 wrongs don't make a right. Raine was deverstated so ran off up stairs in to a room where she bumps in to a moody guy with a attitude. She figured he was Cameron brother and found out his name was Jarrett before Cameron comes up saying he was looking for her.
Cameron takes her and things start getting slightly heated. However Raine said no continuously about doing more than touching, but Cameon didn't listen and kept saying she wants this...and he raped her. Raine found out shortly after, she was pregnant by Cameron.
Know body knows about the rape or what Canerons done, until she goes to tell him about the baby and his family are there, including Jarret. Cameron and his family, except Jarret are completly horrible to Raine, bitching about her, calling her easy, she wasn't worth the bet he made with his friends to sleep with her and bullying her to take a lot of money to stay out of their lives and abort or get the baby put up for adoption, but even though Raine has no money, can't afford food and is living in her car, she turns them all down and doesn't tell them about the rape.
Jarret....Raines knight in shining armor saves her. He protects her, befriends her, and is willing to give up everything and everyone including his family for Raine. He bumps in to her and sees she has no money, where she's living and demands she gets her things and moves in with her.
You know he has feelings for her, but he also knows that's something isn't right about the whole baby situation and Raine won't tell him and Cameron is just the horriblist person in the world and never wants to discuss the baby, situation or Raine.
It's very hard for Jarret and Raine. You can tell there's feelings between them but Camrons saying she's using him in one ear and Raines telling him that's not the truth and there's more to the story in the other ear, but refuses to tell him what's happened. This is the only part of the book that annoyed me. It took so so long for her to finally tell him about the Rape. I understand why she kept it quiet for a certain length of time and she's putting her trust in the brother of her rapist. Raine must go through a million emotions and it was horrible reading about it. I really wish she would of told Jarret sooner because you knew she would stand by her and their relationship wouldn't have such trust issues between them. There was always going to be bumps in the road with them both.
I don't think this book is for younger readers because of the rape being covered up. If a YA is reading this and unfortunatly was in this position then they may feel it's better to not tell anyone because Raine never did. Where they should always go straight to the police or a loved one. I no its just a story and I'd not take a mark off, I just wanted to say if a young person is reading this then if you or someone you no are in this position, remember this is just a story and not real. Go to the police.
The only other issue I had with this book is that the name Cameron is never wrote the same way...one minute it's Camron, then it's Cameron....I have to say that is some seriously bad editing. Once or twice would be fine, but every time you see his name, it's different to the time before. That unfortunately pushed a fantastic book down to 4 stars because any editor should or author should or easily picked that up as its so often. Such a shame.
Other than that this book completly shocked me. As I said at the start don't look at the cover and think it's a YA book and push it aside, because it's a brilliant book by a brilliant author.
4 stars

"Because I do." Sitting on the side to the bed, Jarrett tucked a few strands of hair that had escaped her ponytail behind her ear. "I haven't been able to take my eyes off you since the day I first saw you. You may have been my brother's first, but you've always been mine. And I'm yours Raine, mind, body and soul. Everything I have, everything I am, belongs to you." ~ Jarrett Moss

If it's possible to fall in love with a book boyfriend in the prologue of a book, I fell in love with Jarrett Moss from the first words he spoke. He is perfection on the inside wrapped up in a perfect package on the outside. So yes there's a new book boyfriend in town and you have to meet him.

Now here's the thing...Jarrett winds up falling in love with his brother Camron's ex-girlfriend. I know sounds sketchy right? Well if Jarrett is the perfect boyfriend, Camron is his exact opposite. A pretentious slimeball who thinks of no one but himself.

But I'm getting too far ahead of myself. Raine Forester is the object of the Moss brother's affection. She has never been popular, didn't have many friends and found herself to be not much to look at. Imagine her surprise when Camron Moss the hottest guy in school showed interest in her. Camron Moss seems to have it all, money, popularity, looks. The only thing he doesn't seem to have is a conscience. Of course, Raine is not welcome in Camron's world. She's not rich enough or pretty enough and all the popular girls let her know that.

One night at a house party, Raine's life changes forever. First she accidentally meets Camron's brother Jarrett. Then Camron forces himself on Raine. Yes she does get pregnant.

Her parents basically turn their back on her and Camron and his parents are absolutely despicable. Jarrett, the black sheep of his family decides he's going to take care of Raine. He convinces her to move into the mansion that he lives alone in and takes care of her. You might ask why someone so young is living alone in this gigantic house when his family lives like a block away. You'll find out and it's not pretty.

The first night Jarrett saw Raine, he was intrigued by her. So asking her to stay with him is not a hardship for him. The two of them fall into a comfortable routine and before you know it begin to develop feelings for each other. I know, I know, Raine is pregnant with Jarrett's brother's child, but honestly the way they fall for each other is just so sweet.

Unfortunately, they just don't fall in love and live happily ever after. Camron and his parents constantly belittle Raine to Jarrett. They try to make her out to be some gold digging whore. Jarrett's entire lifestyle is an issue for his parents, so taking care of Raine doesn't help.

Jarrett can't help him self. He started falling for Raine before he really knew who she was. Even with all the nonsense surrounding them, Raine and Jarrett's relationship becomes physical. They start with some very steamy make out sessions. Raine's pregnancy definitely doesn't stop the two of them from becoming intimate. And sweet Jesus what girl wouldn't want to get between the sheets with Jarrett. He's gorgeous with an amazingly cut body (I'm talking V lines here). You'll definitely fall in love with him as a book boyfriend.

Raine and Jarrett may have strong feelings for each other, but can they have a happily ever after when the odds are truly stacked against them? There's a plot twist or two that you won't see coming and I'm certainly not going to share them. Why? I really want you to one click Raine and read it.

Raine is just an unbelievably good story and I have to give it a five lip smack review. Any book that can make me fall in love and bring tears to my eyes has definitely done it's job.

Oh Raine is one of those characters that you just want to hug and protect right from the off. And Jarrett is just adorable. We meet the two in the prologue of this story as Raine goes into labour and calls Jarrett to help, straight away questions jump up as to why this girl is alone going into labour and why Jarrett was not with her. Then Jarrett’s musing on his way to Raine reveals the cusp of this story he is in love with Raine and the child she is about to deliver is not his, it is his Brother’s.
We then go back to nine months earlier and find Raine a quiet shy, lonely church going girl with no real friends that doesn’t date suddenly being courted by the school football captain and attending prom as his date. Camron is a douchebag that is obvious from the offset, he takes Raine to an after prom party that he is holding but forgot to tell her about and then just leaves her while flirting with another girl. Following a run in with the typical mean girls crowd Raine holds her own and you get a glimpse that there is a fighter in Raine. She briefly meets Jarrett, Camron’s brother, whose house the party is at, though their meeting is more of an exchange of insults.
Raine drives a drunken Camron home and helps him up to his room where he suddenly seems to sober up and talks Raine into his bed but she isn’t ready for things to go so far just yet not that Camron seems to care and so Raine is brutally stripped of her virginity. Camron being the douche he is dumps Raine and refuses to take her phone calls and so graduation day she informs Camron that his brutal act has left her pregnant. And through his arrogant and horrid response to her news his attending family learn the news too. And Raine is met with the most obnoxious rude people that speak of her and treat her like dirt; oh I hated them so much.
Following further rejection by her own parents to her news Raine is alone eighteen, homeless and pregnant but we see the fighter in her over and over. Raine encounters Jarrett and though she fiercely refuses his offers of help Jarrett is not taking no for an answer and moves Raine into his home. I loved Jarrett he was so sweet and nothing like the rest of his family. The two become friends but not without interference by Jarrett’s obnoxious family and yet despite this their relationship slowly begins to change. Raine is still scared following her treatment by Camron and Jarrett gradually begins to realise the possibility of what his brother did to Raine.
Just as the two seem to accept their relationship they take what seems to be an olive branch from Jarretts family but yet again Raine is treated disgustingly by his family and during a heated dinner manages to upset Jarrett due to his families interference and then reveals what Camron did to her, to yet again be treated like the pariah. Oh god my heart ached for this girl, I seriously wanted to do this horrid family harm. And then Jarrett as a result of confusion over his feelings for Raine and his loyalty to his family rejects Raine and sends her back to her parents. Ugh I cried for poor Raine.
On a visit to his parents home Jarrett finds out secrets that have been kept from him that make him question his treatment and rejection of Raine out of loyalty to them and realises he has made a huge mistake. He sets out to put things straight with Raine and to convince her he believes her, he also convinces Raine to report Camron for his crime. Then yet again following a showdown with his parents Jarrett doubts his relationship with Raine (ugh I wanted to shake him) and he leaves Raine alone which is when the story comes full circle and Raine is in labour. Is their relationship going to survive?

5 rescue me stars!!! OMG… Can Jarret be more perfect?? He may have ruined me for all other book boyfriends!

 photo 5 Buttons_zpsu895julz.jpg

Raine is the outcast at her school, not the popular girl, so when Camron.. The popular football player from school notices her, she’s elated. But Camron isn’t the dream she thought he was. After a drunk night at prom he rapes her… and stops speaking to her. Months later at graduation, she turns up to let him know that she’s now pregnant. And typical Camron fashion, he denies it’s his and his parents want to buy her off. Refusing she sets off to raise the baby by herself, no matter what the cost. But she realizes it’s not easy living on her own with no help… that’s when she stumbles on to Camron’s brother Jarrett, who offers to take her in. Reluctantly she accepts but she never realizes that this beautiful man is so much more. Jarret is a man that keeps to himself, but there’s something about Raine that he can’t stay away from… but when his family finds out that he’s with the girl who “tried to ruin” his brother, well you know how well that’s going to go over…. Can these two make it work in a world where nothing seems to be on their side? Will Raine tell Jarret, exactly what happened between her and Camron? And if she does will he believe her??

This book ripped my heart out!!! Raine… OMG I wanted to hug that poor girl!!! She just couldn’t catch a break… it was one thing after the next. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and that’s exactly what happened!!! And then Jarret…. This man is seriously the reason men should exist. He takes this poor girl in and looks after her and promises to take things at her speed. I really think I fell for this man! J.C. Valentine you’ve outdone yourself with this book. I’ve been a fan of you for awhile, but this book has sent me over the edge!!! Bravo!

What would you do if the hottest, wealthiest boy in high school takes a liking to you and wants you to be his? Would you believe it to be true or would you think it was all a horrible joke.

This is the dilemma facing Raine. Camron is the hottest and wealthiest boy in high school and he meets her when jogging by her house one day. Following that, he takes an interest in her and the two start a relationship much to Raine’s disbelief. Sure Raine is pretty but she doesn’t believe she is at the calibre of the other more popular girls that Camron hangs around with.

The two have been seeing each other for a couple of months when on the night of the prom after party, Camron has too much to drink and doesn’t stop when she tells him to, in turn taking her virginity and leaving her pregnant. He wants nothing more to do with her after that night and refuses to answers her calls or text messages. This forces Raine to confront him at graduation in front of his family to tell him she is pregnant with his child. His parents, with the exception of his older brother Jarrett, who Raine met at the graduation party as it was held at his house, call her a gold digging whore and try to pay her off so as not to wreck any chances Camron has for a scholarship.

On top of this, Raine’s own parents, who are strict Catholics, have kicked her out and she has been living in her car for a week.

Then Jarrett, the one person who she never expected to, comes to her rescue by moving her into his house, feeding her and buying her new clothes as her pregnancy advances. Jarret is the black sheep of his family and his morals and values are completely different than his family. Jarrett works in a garage after bailing on law school, he is covered in tattoos and loves to paint, much to the disgust of his father.

When Jarrett becomes aware of what really happened that night between Raine and Camron, he doesn’t know who to believe and what to do. He will be left with the decision to choose between Raine and her unborn baby (his niece/nephew) or his brother and his parents. When his decision is made easier by a long held secret, will he be able to make the right decision? On top of that is the fact that he and Raine have an attraction he hasn’t felt with anyone before.

I love how Jarrett steps up when his parents try to buy her off. He steps up to his brother’s responsibilities and takes care of Raine and her unborn baby when she needs it the most all at age 23. What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man!

JC Valentine has written a heart-wrenching story that is all too common in today’s society. Raine’s story is heartbreaking and I shed a tear or two for what she had to endure from Camron, his parent’s and her own parents.

Do you ever get nervous for your characters?? From the synopsis of the book you knew something was going to happen and as I read I kept fearing this would be the moment and I was so scared for her. Like, no, I want to save her and keep her safe and nothing bad ever happens. I'm so glad I agreed to read this story because it was amazeballs.

The story starts with Raine and we begin to watch it all unfold and I'm so happy that girlie had a backbone even though she was originally shy, shy doesn't mean doormat and Raine let them all know that right from the get go. I loved her as a character, she felt real and relateable, she reacted to life in a way that was very believable and she didn't think way too hard about what others were thinking because she was more focused on making it through each day even though the people who should have had her back disappointed her.

I teared up a few times in this novel and even had to take a moment to breathe deep before I went on. This isn't a novel with guns and big scary scenes, this is a new adult novel that shares growth, the ability to forgive ,learning to stand up for oneself, and to have faith in other and also about the power of redemption. This is what new adult is about, that moment when you figure out daily what makes you you, and what helps to shape the person you want to become.

Told from dual perspective we get to see the options left for others and what it must be like to be related to someone who does something you never thought they were capable of. I really loved reading that scene and I loved Raine even more when she put it all out there.

On page 180 in a totally innocent scene Jarrett showed himself to be a bit sexist, I was like Wait what?? Bitch I kick ass at cards, dominoes, chess, checkers, any boards games I'll have you know I'm hella good. But I also had to laugh because really that is a stupid thought to have. Initially I was like wait no why does he have to be so stupidly flawed??

I really loved it and it ended well. I don't know if I would have pressed Raine as hard to do what he wanted but at least the author didn't give it a 'perfect' ending, even though at the end it was perfect for the story.

I absolutely love then together and I felt the story was extremely awesome and realistic. I loved the growth of the characters especially Jarrett, because for him it was a total change from what he knew and had in mind. For Raine, she learnt that she was stronger than she first thought, that she was more capable than others thought and that love doesn't always come easily.

I really loved this story and even after reading it, would think on the scenes and smile.

My 5 star review!
Review copy provided.

I wasn't expecting such an emotional book. This is a book that is hard to review because I feel I could give too much away.

Raine (h) poor sweet Raine...she was the typical nerdy girl and average (or so she thought) in every way. She was raised with religious parents, never really had a boyfriend or dated until her senior year when Camron the most popular guy took interest in her. Raine loved Camron and trusted him, did things she's never done...but one night changes everything. Camron isn't who she thought he was.

Jarret (H) Camron's older brother is the blacksheep of the family keeps to himself and his art. When he finds Raine struggling he can't walk away, he is pulled towards her and wants to help. He is being pulled toward her then pulled away...push and pull. What can he do? His brother Raine's first love is his blood but Raine is this beautiful person inside and out and he can't let her go. Will he chose his brother, his family over a girl he really doesn't know?

I loved this book I read it practically in one sitting and chewed off my nails. I felt the connection between the H and h. I felt the struggles Jarret was dealing with. And oh how I felt for Raine. I wanted to reach into my Kindle and console her, hug her and give her my advice. I hope as a parent to a girl my daughter never will have to endure what she did. It happens all the time, girls are bullied and harassed especially in high school so it just made the book that much more real to me. I'm trying really hard not to spoil anything so I want to be vague but add one thing...I felt Camron got off easy at first but then I thought about it and that was real too, the reasons why he got off easily were explained and would also happen in the real world not just fiction.

I definitely recommend this book. There is a disturbing scene and it is emotional but everything is handled and written in very good taste.

Raine was such a great book. It was very hard to read in a certain part, where a very difficult situation occurs to Raine. One that some readers may find very difficult to read. From the start we know Raine is not some vapid attention seeking character she is out of her depth, both in her current social situation and how it plays out. She does not feel comfortable in her own skin or her way of life she has not found her path i felt, she is trying to find her niche but little does she realise being herself is her niche in life. Camron is a grade A douche bag and that is me being polite, i could throttle him and his little evil bunch of friends. But Jarret, he is also like Raine though he does not realise it, it is only when these two characters are thrown together in the most unlikely way possible that things begin to change for the two of them, sometimes for the better other times for the worst. Oh and posh families do not get me started on them, they have more secrets and lies buried than any gangster group i have read, and are nearly always so despicable. I loved the one on one interaction between Jarret and Raine, and when Raine explains the reasoning behind her name it is heartbreaking. Despite the darkness that surrounds this story it is almost like a rainy day where it slowly breaks and the sun can come out again This is what this novel is like, the situations that are sad and upsetting are offset by moments of fun between the characters and growth between them. I also have to say the last few moments in the end of the novel, where Jarret gets to say his piece made my heart melt for him even more than it had through the rest of the story. I really do not want to go into too much detail as the moments in this book that take you by surprise in this book had me reading until late into the night as i just needed to know what happens next to Raine.

I was graciously given an ARC for review!
One god-forsaken night can change ones world in a blink of an eye.
RAINE,a strong willed fighter is anything but close to popular in any way seeing how she has no friends, literally. She's shy, keeps to herself type of gal who was raised by old fashioned values which she believes in. On the right path making her parents prouder than ever with the most love until one jock-ass relentlessly pursues her!
Cameron is 'THE' popular jock-ass, ya know the one? His shaggy locks, great looks and a muscled bod attracts like a slutty magnet. A football maniac with a bright unstoppable future ahead of him. NOTHING stops him!
He sets his sights on Raine, they get close, his friends become her friends, which shocks everyone.
Months go by with her putting up with the mean girls, which only cements her own doubts.
One god-forsaken night. One shattered world beyond repair. Thrown out like trash.
Abandoned, living in unhealthy ways, and having a support-less job, Raine's not going down alone.
Lies,Secrets,Betrayal,a humongous bomb is dropped, doubt sets in to all around.
Truths are told, lies are spun until it all spews out.
Jarret, a saving grace is the outcast of his family. He knows this and accepts this but clueless as to the reason why.
He's totally swoon-worthy but I had to get over a few of his stupid-ways!
But he mans up, trying to right the wrongs and becomes Raine's saving grace in more ways than one.
I was hooked from page one, finished in one day. This roller coaster of emotions had my heart aching for Raine, feeling sad, angry, depressed and disgusted.
It's extremely terrifying that it happens more often than not nowadays.
A first for me by this author. I'm shocked asking myself why??

Raine Forester is just your average, shy, ordinary girl. Basically invisible...that is until Camron Moss comes along. Camron is Mr. Popular, football captain and a total douchebag. When he takes interest in Raine everything will forever change. One night after a party the unthinkable happens and things just seem to keep getting worse for Raine.

 photo PicMonkeyCollage-20.jpg

Jarrett is Camron's older brother and the black sheep of his family. Once he lays eyes on Raine his attraction to her is instant. After bumping into her after Raine's world gets shattered, he takes her in under his wing. The more time they spend together, the closer the two become but how will Camron and his parents react? Will they continue to cause problems for Raine? Will Jarrett eventually side with his family over Raine?

 photo PicMonkeyCollage1-3.jpg

The things Raine had to go thru broke my heart and made me so mad it wasnt funny. When the time came I was so glad she stood up for herself although I was disappointed in Jarrett for a bit but that ending was absolutely perfect!!!! I love Jarrett and Raine together!!

If you haven't one clicked this book yet I would do so now!! Your emotions will be all over the place but by the ending you will not regret a second of it!!

Raine is a book about heartache, J.C. Valentine as masterd a story about heartache and betrayle.

Raine is your average girl, the invisable girl who noone really knows, when the most gorgeous guy in school take notice of her and treats her like a princess, Raine can't help but fall iin love. At the school Prom Raine feels something isn't right between her and Camron and the un thinkable happens.

Raine is left heartbroken and homeless, pregnant and no money. When she confronts Camron he, doesn't want to know, she was a bet he won and hurts her even more.

His family want her to abort or adopt the baby out to save Camrons reputation. No one even considers how she feels. They want to pay her off sothat she keeps quiet. Raine refuses it all, but help does come to her in the ost unlikely person Camrons older bother Jarret.

Jarret the blacksheep of the Moss family, extends a helping hand , Raines pride stop her but slowly he break her down.

This book is full of heartache, your heart will break for Raine and for Jarret, you will find yourself laughing and crying, but you know that Jarret and Raine are meant to be together, you can feel the chemistry between the two of them from the first oment they meet and in your heart you know he can be relied on to protect and care for her. You want Raine to open up to him so that she can let go of what has happend, until she does they cant move on.

This book shows us that those with money have no morals or care for anyone but hemselves.

I gave this book 5 staars, if i could give it more it would be more, J.C. Valentine has written a true life situation and made it into a modern day fairy tale. So do believe fairy tales do exist.

Raine is the typical shy awkward teenager in high school. No one ever noticed Raine until Camron, the most popular boy in school.Camron is the star football player and the guy every girl wants. Something seems off to Raine. Why would the most popular boy in school want her? Things happen that send her life into a tailspin. She has a chance meeting with Camrons brother Jarret but with her life in turmoil can she find it in herself to trust him? Jarret is the black sheep of the family and he is drawn to the sweet, shy, and beautiful Raine. Jarret knows that Raine has a secret and he just wants her to trust him enough to tell him. Raine knows that her secret will either make or break their growing relationship and trusting the wrong people has taught her just how much it could destroy her. Jarret also learns that his own family is drowning in secrets and he is determined to find out the truth. Now he has to figure out who to trust and what he should believe.
This book definitely finds its way to my favorites list. The characters all have their own strong personalities that absolutely come to life on the page. I did not put the book down until I had finished it. I love the whole story and it comes with a lot of emotions. Raine and Jarret have their own cute little banter that makes you laugh and yet the emotional parts of the story makes your heart hurt for two young people dealing with so much heartache. This author definitely knows how to make you feel every aspect of this story. Amazingly awesome read!!

I'm stingy with my five star ratings, so much so that out of hundreds of books, only a select handful have been fives.

I gladly add this book to that select handful.

I'm not going to say much because this one is best just to be read!

It will jerk at your heart, make you empathize with several tough teen topics, enrage you, give you little reasons to smile, and make you swoon when an unlikely knight in beat up armor makes you wish book boyfriends could be cloned!

The author weaved a sweet and tender, albeit very gritty, love story for a girl that just seemed to never be on the winning side of anything in life.

The female MC was an awkward teen. She wasn't a whiner, & she had plenty of reasons to roll over and play dead. She didn't, though! She was strong, brave, and fierce. Most strong characters like that let pride be their downfall, but, no, this character learned that it's good to stand up for yourself, but it's also okay to accept help when sincerely offered.

The male MC was one of those guys that you really want to hate because he can be crass, defensive, and a little judgmental at times... Basically, he often does the right thing, but maybe for somewhat wrong reasons. But, he just keeps nibbling away at your heart little by little as he grows into a role that really should've never been his to fill. By the end, I serious wish I could clone him for myself:)

I'd recommend this book to any and all!!!

The synopsis for this book doesn’t give much away so I am going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible! I enjoyed this book and actually read it in one day; I really couldn’t put it down.

Just a warning, there is one scene in this book that some people may find difficult to read. Like I said I don’t want to give too much away but I feel that the author handled this tough part as tactfully as possible given the topic and didn’t exploit it unnecessarily.
I found “Raine” to be an emotional and at times heartbreaking story but despite all of the hardship the main character Raine endures; she handles it with strength and courage. Jarret is a complete sweetheart and his support of Raine throughout her struggles is so endearing. These two characters form an amazing friendship that is wrought with some major sexual tension! There isn’t a tonne of sex scenes in this book but the buildup is pretty epic! I have to say that when these two characters do get together for the first time it is AMAZING! There was just something so beautiful and sexy about the way J.C. Valentine wrote that scene, I really can’t say enough.

This story did take some twists and turns that definitely kept things interesting and it had a really great and satisfying ending. I would absolutely recommend this book!

That ending has turned me into a big pile of mush.

The most perfect epilogue!

Right, the story.

Camron is a douche.

Raine is a survivor.

Jarrett is the one.

After one unthinkable act, Raine is left with a precious gift and one she is not willing to give up. Finding herself alone and in need of help, Jarrett finds her when she needs someone the most.

He protects her, he befriends her, he develops feelings for her but is confused as to where it's all going. She accepts his help, but doesn't expect it to last so holds herself back from the truth.

Their road was never going to be smooth. The bumps include spiteful words, absences and vindictive actions but through the twists and turns you find yourself yearning for them to just be together, sod everyone else, just those two (soon to be three) in their private bubble.

Anyway, back to this epilogue. Sweetest ending ever. If you love a dose of hard knocks with a side order of sugary sweetness, Raine is for you. It's not all hearts and roses. There's some mud and oil in there too but my goodness, the relief I felt in the last 10% at the outcome was much desired!

Thank you JC for providing us at Four Brits and a Book with the ARC of this, a perfect read-in-a-day book! :)

Raine by J.C. Valentine
4 Stars
What happens with the average girl who slips beneath everyone’s radar suddenly has the interest of the most popular guy in the school? Raine believes this is the beginning of being accepted but what she doesn’t know is that lies will be told, hearts will be broken, and she will be left with nothing.

You will meet Raine who has her whole world turned upside down and forges ahead with determination. Cameron the popular guy in high school that that is not so nice. Jarret, Cameron’s older brother who is the black sheep of the family. Follow these three as they learn to live their lives after a life changing event.

This is a great story of a girl who has no one to help her though out a tough time in her life and the unlikely person that gives her a second chance at love. You will fall in love with Raine’s determination to make it on her own. Jarret it the unlikely person who steps up and helps her out. As the story progresses it is great to see Raine and Jarret mature as people and learn to love and rely on one another. The story also shows the struggle of Raine and Jarret being accepted by their families for who they are and the choices they make.

I absolutely adore this story. J.C. Valentine pulled me right in from the very first page and didn't let me go until the very last word. The prologue itself was full of so much emotion.

At first, the story is Raine's. She has her first boyfriend, Camron, who appears to be way out of her league. They are complete opposites: She's shy, he's outgoing, he's popular and she is basically invisible. They are together, seemingly in love, until something terrible happens and they suddenly split. Rains is left dealing with the aftermath all by herself.

That is until Camron's brother, Jarret, steps in and helps her out. The two form a friendship while battling their growing attraction to each other.

I loved Jarret and Raine together. They compliment each other nicely. As far as couples go, the author couldn't have created two that work together so well. Though there are dark times in this book, they can get through it together. Well, until the past seems to come back to destroy them.

This is the perfect book if you are looking for a quick read that has a little bit of angst, a lot of emotion, and a really great storyline.

Review: I was given a complimentary copy of Raine by Pretty lil Page turners for an honest review.
I have always liked J.C Valentine’s writing style and this one was no different. I really enjoyed this book! It was really good.

Raine is an average girl living a normal life. She wasn’t really living she was just existing until she met Camron. He took interest in Raine and that changed everything. But some things are unforgiveable. Raine thought she’d been accepted into things but one decision made that change. Lies were told and hearts were broken. True love happens in the strangest places.
I liked the story line in Raine and it was a good read. It was an adorable book.

“She’d just made the second toughest decision in her life by turning down that money, the first being the decision to become a mother.”
“She’d probably be pissed if he told her he’d been there all along, watching her like a creepy stalker while she slept.”

I would recommend this book to my friends and I give it 4 out of 5 stars!

Get ready to bring out the big box of Kleenex. You will be balling your eyes out…. This is Raine and Jarret’s love story. Raine is an introvert; she is gullible when it comes to Cameron Moss. She fell for his hard only to be stomped on and left to pick up the pieces. The better part of Cameron is his brother Jarret.

When I say Raine is left to pick up the pieces, she is pregnant and left to fend for herself. She gets up enough nerve to tell Cameron and his family. She is basically shunned, told to fix it. Raine did not get pregnant willingly, but she won’t give up that secret.
Jarret is the bigger man and steps up to the plate. He wants to help Raine out, her apartment is terrible and Jarret does not want her or the baby in that condition. Raine and Jarret have such a connection, even from the first time they meet that you will fall in love with the story. I do not want to go too much into the story, but we he calls her Peach, I just melt.
You wonder if Jarret will be able to accept the baby as his own and what will the family say. Read the baby now…One click!!!
