Alpha wolf shifter Detective Dax Steel is hip deep in homicide cases, all bear shifters who seemingly died in of natural causes in their prime. To make matters worse, the murders throw him back in contact with his ex-lover, Adin.
Adin shares the same genetics as the victims and a healthy appetite for the sexy and addictive Dax. A two week blazing hot affair between them fell apart almost as quickly as it started, leaving Adin longing but hesitant to risk his heart once more.
Can Dax track down the killer before Adin lands in his crosshairs? Will they come together as a team and find love is lasting after all?
Interesting premise spoiled by really poor writing and a cartoonishly eeeevil villain. The sex scenes did provide some entertainment though.
"Dax's slick fingers moved in and out of the other man's ass like warmed butter on hot bread while his other hand held his testicles captive, stretching them with care."
This was a fairly good murder mystery/romance featuring a wolf and a bear shifter, an unusual pairing for me. (I don't believe I've read about any shifters other than cats and wolves, and of course the demons in the Cameron Dane books.) The two MCs were all kinds of yummy and the mystery was easy to follow. Nothing mind-blowing, but something I can recommend as a palate cleanser after a harsher book when you just want to let go and not have to think very much.
This is a decent shifter story. There was no insta-love which was kinda refreshing for a shifter story. Just two shifters, one a bear shifter and one a wolf shifter who are attracted to each other and have failed previously at having a relationship. There is a mystery/murder plot to the story, but it just kind of fell flat for me, I understand why it was there to bring these two back together, but it just didn't work for me. But if you like shifter stories, this was is a quick read.
Dax is a police detective and an alpha wolf, he is currently trying to find out the reason why three black bear shifters were murdered. With no clues and completely stumped Dax turns to his ex-lover Adin to see if he could shed some light on what is happening to his fellow black bear shifters, Dax finds that his feelings for Adin never faded and as the murders continue Dax has to try and rein in his possessive, protective nature. Adin’s always regretted that things didn’t work out with Dax but he refuses to be ordered about, when Dax turns up asking for information on bear shifters Adin and Dax burn up the sheets but the problems are still between them. When Adin comes into the killers sights Dax sees for himself that Adin can take care of himself and the two come to a happy medium.
This is quite a good shifter story with some great background and insights, the story is well written and quite enjoyable. I liked the characters and the storyline and also enjoyed the fact that there was no insta-love or fated mates, it was just two shifters who were attracted to each other compatible in bed but seemingly incompatible out of bed. Dax is pure alpha and wasn’t able to control his need to protect what is his, Adin is a bear shifter who has always taken care of himself put the two together and you have smoking hot sex but a clash of personalities. There is a killer silently killing bear shifters for their own twisted revenge and it is the catalyst that drives Dax back to Adin. While trying to catch a killer Adin and Dax’s explosive relationship reignites but they still have issues to overcome if they don’t want it to splutter out.
This story is actually written from three perspectives Dax’s, Adin’s and the killers, so we can see everything that is going on. The relationship between Adin and Dax is explosive and they are fantastic together in bed, but out of bed Dax has to get a grip on his instincts because Adin won’t be coddled. You get a great feel for both characters and what they both feel and how they both struggle with Dax’s protective instincts, their relationship isn’t perfect but this time they are willing to try. The killer is someone who you, in a way, feel sorry for, they have been through their own hell and it has twisted them and that shines through from the killer’s thoughts and feelings.
I recommend this to those that love shifters, a twisted killer who is determined to get revenge, two shifters who have to work through their instincts, hot sex and a great ending.

Someone is out to get the bear shifters and Detective Dax Steel, an Alpha wolf shifter and homicide detective, wants to know why three of them have been murdered. The murder of a human suspected of having information shifts the investigation into overdrive.
Adin, Dax’s ex, is his first stop for information, and although they broke up years prior because of Dax’s overprotective Alpha behavior, the spark is still alive and well. As the investigation continues with no leads, Dax and Adin rekindle their tumultuous relationship. Dax, fearing for Adin’s safety, orders Adin to accept his protection and Adin refuses, just like he refused to be coddled and caged by domineering Dax before. When the cards are down, Dax admits he loves Adin, but immediately flees the argument, leaving a stunned Adin reeling.
I was extremely excited to find Broken Bridges, featuring not only wolf, but also bear shifters. I will admit that the mystery element was a bit of a surprise, if only because it dominated the story, while the lovers reunited trope was not explored in more depth. That the antagonist happens to meet someone, who happens to have witnessed his girlfriend shift in her living room for no discernible reason, who happens to blackmail said girlfriend to ensure silence, was just pushing the boundaries of coincidence too far.
I also can’t say that this is the most polished M/M story in terms of the sex, or rather the terminology used by the characters to describe the “parts” used during sex, alternating, for example between “manhood” and “cock.” There was also an odd mix of proper and colloquial terminology and unusual word choice. Other observations include “Wow! The forestry service is fast, like, lightning fast!” and “Where did all the money come from? That doesn’t make sense.”
Someone is killing bear shifters and wolf shifter Detective Dax Steel is hip deep in murder cases which throws him back in contact with his ex-lover, Adin because he will have to find the killer before Adin becomes the target in this thrilling m/m paranormal romance. I found this story to be a quick and suspenseful read in a fascinating shifter world that I thoroughly enjoyed as I have enjoyed all Cheyenne Meadows books that I have read so far, so I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Not your usual fated-mates, insta-love shifters, that was a nice change. Fairly good little mystery. Likable characters. This is one of those stories that could have been three times as long, the writing and the plot had the potential to hold my attention for a much longer period of time.
Someone is killing bear shifters. The body count is at three when the story begins. Alpha wolf Dax is the lead detective on the case. He has almost zero leads. And in his heart he has a fear that perhaps his ex-lover, bear shifter Adin, might be targeted next. Both men are alpha male types, and though compatible in bed, their dominant characters do not make for a smooth ride. Hence the breakup years ago. Maybe now they can try it again…
This was an explosive story. Not only the hot sex but the men, struggling to find each other amid the madness of deaths around them. They weren’t good together except in the sack. Dax, the wolf, is overprotective with a pack mentality while Adin, the bear, is a loner who doesn’t like to be dominated anywhere else but in bed. I liked both men. Knowing they couldn’t help their masculine saber rattling, I found they were in fact so much alike that it explained why things didn’t work out between them. Naturally, it’s only a matter of time before Adin ends up in the killer’s crosshairs.
The murder mystery is a compelling one. Ms. Meadows seems to have a firm grasp of police procedures and forensic science, and these things made the story realistic. I admit I wasn’t a hundred percent sold on the killer’s motives but it was in intriguing plotline, and I would have wished for some sort of emotional closure for the culprit in the end. Maybe that was just the good in me talking. Still, the plot moves swiftly, and there’s a balanced mix of investigation, dialogue, action, and sex.
The writing is solid and convincing with its fast pace and expertise of chemistry, and I found this world of shifters blending unseen into the modern society quite compelling. I wonder if there will be more stories like this. I sure hope so. Recommended.
Three murders in three days? Somebody has a grudge against bear shifters. It is Alpha wolf shifter Detective Dax Steel’s job to solve the cases. However, Dax needs more clues to help the investigation. Dax needs help from his former lover, bear shifter Adin.
In Broken Bridges the plot is an intriguing second chance romance blended with profiling a serial killer drama that builds the suspense almost to the ending. The setting is a modern day city somewhere in America. The characters are creditable.
The law enforcement community consists of humans, as well as shifters working together; although the humans are not aware that some of their co-workers have the ability to shift into animals. With his keen sense of smell, Dax notices a faint odor emitting from each victim, this is the only clue. Finally indentifying the lethal concoction, the race is on to find the psychotic perpetrator before more shifters are exterminated.
True to his alpha nature, Dax is a protector as well as being very bossy. His dominant attitude caused a rift in his previous relationship with Adin.
Being a bear shifter, Adin was more than capable of protecting himself. Also, Adin has an independent nature, he is not accustomed to being obedient to anyone; this was the most important characteristic Dax failed to recognize in Adin’s personality.
Cheyenne Meadows has created an impressively absorbing saga that I greatly enjoyed.
FourandHalfStars Dax and Adin have a history that was full of fire - but a fire that dwindled quickly. Despite their past, when Adin's life is in danger, Dax can't help but try to protect him, even if that means pushing Adin away again. Both have killer instincts and a need to take care of themselves.
When Adin and Dax come together, the sex is intense, animalistic and incredible. Their connection is so strong, but their individual needs are still what they were before - Dax's need to protect, Adin's need to ensure that he doesn't lose himself.
Frustrated with the murder case, Dax is slowly teasing out who is responsible. I liked how his extra abilities allowed him to see the truth in some and the lies in others. Also, I liked how the author was able to write a very well planned out murder mystery in such a short amount of time.
I was a little disappointed that the villain was resolved as quickly as it was, because I would have liked to know more about the history in that story.Overall this was a great mystery, one that kept the reader on their toes. I would definitely read this author again.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
Well, for me this book was just on the verge of being really good. I think the thing that stopped it was the suspense. You found out why the murders were being performed early on and basically who did it. I would have much preferred more secretiveness and not finding everything out till the end. I also thought how the murderer was caught was just a little too easy.
The relationship part was pretty good. You basically have two different people that were together previously find their way back to each other. Over the years they were apart, they still hadn't forgotten each other. Then this case of bear shifters being murdered comes up and this is the catalyst for them talking. Everything progresses from there.
I guess, I would say that the book was good. It is one I enjoyed reading while actually reading. It isn't one that hits my top reads list but not everything can. I would definitely read something else from this author.
Dax and Adin had a two week, very hot affair that could not sustain itself. Now some years later the two are thrown together as Dax investigates murders where all the murdered share the same genetics as Adin. Dax does not want Adin to become a victim. The two men find their love and lust has not died, but will it be too late for a second chance?
Dax and Adin did burn up the pages with amazing chemistry. They, however, had a few issues to work through. Do they mend their broken bridge? Pick up this one to find out. It is perfect for those of us who love paranormal suspense and excitement as well as some heat and adventure. Dax and Adin are sure to work their way into your heart. They will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see if their Broken Bridges can be mended.
This just didn't work well for me. I liked the concept but it fell flat. Something about the relationship was weak--I didn't really understand why they broke up nor why they got back together. The shifting was also less than what I wanted and the investigation wasn't impressive.
An interesting little story with a VERY overpowering, take charge MC, Dax. He blew his relationship the first time with Adin because of his inability to leave the dominance in the bedroom.
Yes, another 5o or so pages would have rounded this out a bit more, but we got enough to tell us the story! Besides, you can't go wrong with a bear shifter story... IMHO! *grin*
This was a solid shifter's story with a mix of romance and mysterious killings of bear shifters. Adin and Dax were fine together, but nothing special. In overall it was a fine story, but easy forgettable.
Two alpha males, mysterious murders, good world building, all of which I enjoyed. The story stayed with me weeks after I finished reading it. I hope to see more of this paranormal world.
