You should read “Love Through the Pain” first before reading this book. This is Jose and Jewel’s story. This is book 2 about the Martinez men stories.

This is a great love story and I enjoyed it very much. The chemistry between the couple was good and you could feel their love oozing from the pages.

Jewel is a teacher and a strong black woman who has experienced some heartache in the area of love.
Jose was a bad boy who made some mistakes in his life which had consequences which followed him through life and continues to block him, even though he is desperately trying to change his life.

Jose and Jewels are friends and are related through marriage. They care about each other and have fun together and neither one wants the other to be harmed or hurt in anyway. Eventually, they recognize that their feelings go deep for each other and enter into a relationship that has it’s up and downs like any other relationship but always is loving and caring towards each other. Jose loves Jewel very much and she would do anything for him. It’s like the song says “When a Man Loves a Woman” that’s the kind of love Jose has for Jewel. Jewel loves and believes in Jose and sees his potential to be great even though he has made some mistakes in his life. Jewel recognizes that Jose is a good man and just needs someone to love him and have his back. Jewel is that person.

Connie is Jose’s love interest in the story before he realises how much he cares for Jewel and that she is the woman for him. Connie is a career woman who has it all, car, house and a good job but no man in her life. Jose fancies her and decides to date her. What he does not realise is that Connie thinks he is beneath her and she is ashamed and embarrassed to be seen out with him and refuses to go out with him in his old banger of a car and they mainly stay indoors for their dates.

Connie: “Jose is not in my league”
Connie: “He has no education. He’s a janitor, for heaven’s sake”
Connie: “I want a man that can take care of me, not the other way around”
Jazmine: “You said he was beneath you and yes I have a problem with that”

For me, although Jewel and Jose’s story is a great love story and I love them both, I think Connie and her attitude to Jose was the moral of the story for me!!! Here was a woman who appeared to have it all except for the love of a good man. She gets an opportunity with this great guy and totally blows it because she is worried about appearances. But how many professional women do we all know who do exactly the same thing? They cannot see a man's character because they are too busy looking at his current position in life instead of his potential. Lots of women miss their opportunity for happiness because of this attitude and it’s not just with jobs it’s with colour too. Women really need to start looking past what men have and start looking at how they treat you and looking into their characters. This was the ha-ha moment of this story in my opinion. There is the morale of this story.

Connie in the end reaped what she sowed. You will have to read the book to find out what I mean. I dislike women like Connie with a passion however, I did find it in my heart to feel pity for her because she just totally blew her opportunity of having the love of a good man. By the time she realizes her mistake it is too late to correct it!

I love the way Ancelli writes it’s smooth and easy flowing. She pulls you in from the first page, which is how I love my stories. This book is definitely worth the read. Well done Author Ancelli you did it again. A story that goes to the heart and makes you think about love and life!

I would highly recommend this book!

Jose Martinez...

Y’all…Ancelli has knocked it out of the park with this one! Jose Martinez is everything you could want in a man and more: He’s a sexy, attentive, hard-working, humble, driven, dedicated father who will not only lotion your body and buy your feminine products but oil your scalp?! He is the epitome of not judging a book by it’s cover, and in this story he is torn between two types of women: The snobby but ultra sexy I-need-a-man-who’s-gonna-take-care-of-me-and-not-the-other-way-around, and the demure but undercover sexy ride-or-die chick. Which one are you?

Jose made some bad choices in life (who hasn’t for goodness sake) that have temporarily rendered him down, but not out. He’s unemployed, basically homeless, and fighting for custody of his son. Through the goodness of Miss Snoot, Connie, she gives him a job as a janitor to help him get back on his feet, and through the goodness of Miss Ride or Die Jewel, she offers him tutelage to help him obtain his GED, his dignity, and the courage to become a better man for himself and ultimate his son. Jose is grateful to both ladies for their assistance, and through a series of encounters, he becomes torn between the two, all the while knowing who’s the better choice for him although the flesh and the heart sometimes have a mind of their own.

Ancelli has fleshed out these characters so well that you feel like you are there in the moment eye-witnessing these characters interact. You root for Jose while trying to decide (initially) whether you’re #TeamConnie or #TeamJewel. Jose is a man of conviction and determination. He has no shame in his past because he doesn’t let it define him but instead finds motivation to become a better man through the encouragement of his brother and sister-in-law Javier and Jasmine (from Love Through Pain) and Jewel, who also happens to be his sister-in-law and roommate.

Without giving away the entire plot, I recommend that you read this book! It is a wonderful story!

A Fantastic story!

Ancelli once again has produced a moving and truthful tale of love hope and ultimately redemption. Not always do we find true love. But Jose and Jewel did find The love of their lives with each other. Jose is The product of the Hood. Tattoos attitude and a hot temper Jose is a perfect example of a guy is that is trustworthy and loving. But always having to prove yourself in the hood you hang out with the wrong people. For the wrong reasons and you do things that you really shouldn't be doing. Jail became Jose's reality. Where after doing time he vowed to himself and to his Family that he would turn his life around. As José gets on track to change his life and he starts having feelings for his sister-in-law Jewel Jewel has her own baggage. Newly divorced From a man who mentally abused her. She finds herself successful at her job but very lonely. One day something clicks with her and Jose. She can't believe that she's falling for her brother-in-law. This story is not always what you think it will be. Definitely a tearjerker at the end. Definitely five stars and I recommend this book to you!

Perfect

Oh my...where do I begin? Ancelli never disappoints...you're guaranteed to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster and this book is no different! It is so awesome to read about every day people finding their happily ever after. The love and support Jewel shows Jose build him up....like every good woman should for a good man. Jose is loving, loyal and steadfast. He wanted what we all crave; to find that one person that will Always be in your corner. He would have Never found that with anyone else but Jewel. Jewel knew how to love and champion her man because she knew how it felt to be belittled; she knew just having someone believe in you meant the world to their soul. That's right...Ancelli makes you dig deep when reading her books; definite 10 star read!!!

Amazing

Jewel and Jose's story is filled with friendship, respect, love and unity. This amazing story is a story about self discovery, self worth, person growth, setting and meeting goals and loving someone more than your own life.

I wanted to beat Connie and Olga while I cheered on Jewel. I love the Martinez family and how they stick together. Jewel's mother was a piece of work and could see past her wants to see what her children wanted.

Jewel survived a abusive marriage and Jose overcame his past. Together they took on all comers and won. I love this story and Ancelli has carved her place in IR/MC romance novels that none have come close to touching!

3 Time is the charm

I have read this 3 times and forget to leave a review, that’s terrible 😞 on my part. This series is one of my favorite, I know I’ll read it again. I love 💕 reading Ancelli stories. I always check to see what’s new, I’m kind of upset with myself. When I started reading interracial romance I was in Barnes & Noble, then I was introduced to Amazon Kindle fell in love with it. Sad part 7 of my Ancelli story’s our in B&N the rest is in Kindle, switching between the two is frustrating I rather be in Kindle, so I plan on buying the older stories I’m able to in kindle. That’s what a great author does make you want to get your awesome stories to read.

Finished in two days

This I the third book I've read by Ancelli and I must say I've not been disappointed yet. I love that the heroine is always a strong woman. She never waits for a man to rescue her. Ancelli shows that love is a partnership ship that takes time and trust to make it work. Jewel and José belonged together. They were strong and honest with each other. I can't say enough good things about this book. It took me two days to read it but only because my family needed me! 😊

Heartfelt tale

Bravo! Superb! An excellent read Ancelli!!! I can only say that you have got to read this book. I truly love the writing of this author. Ancelli is boss when it comes to weaving tales that uplift the spirit, mend the heart. This was an incredible story on how our perceptions can shape our reality and how love cannot be confined to boxes and that we should never assume we have the right to determine someone's worth. Well done Ancelli, well done!!

Chapter 13

This was an excellent book. Originally I brought the book because of the comment I heard about chapter 13 (which did live up to the hype) but the story line keep me. I couldn't put the book down. Jewel was the perfect heroine. She was a strong black woman who stood by her man; believing in him, even when he didn't believe in himself.

NOT ALWAYS is José Martinez’s book. You will remember him as Javier Martinez brother in LOVE THROUGH PAIN.

I had no clue this was the follow up book for LOVE THROUGH PAIN. I was hoping for a book for José. I just happened to download the book and was shockingly surprised that it was José’s book!

I LOVED this book. It was everything I hoped for and more!

Delightful

Loved this couple. It's a story of perseverance and Love. Jose and Jewel are a lovely couple. It also is a great example of not judging a book by its cover, and Hod of Second Chances.

A Lesson in the true meaning of Love!

Things are not always what they seem! This was a wonderful story of Jewel and José. The chemistry between the two was so real. Jewel's strength and loyalty was very authentic. At times I found myself feeling very connected to the character. Jewel is the kind of person we should all aim to be. She was not only loyal to José, but her character showed what it means to support and encourage a person who does not believe in themselves. José was one courageous man,in how he worked hard despite adversity to meet his goals in life. She also like our the characters actions embodied all the elements of LOVE. LOVE is patient, LOVE is kind, LOVE does not boast and so on. It is awesome to read of how another human being can effect another to want to be a better person and that's what Jewel's love did for José. Ancelli, you did it again! Great Story that has left me thinking. Great Job! I believe this story was well written with engaging story as well as engaging characters. I recommend this book to any one who loves a few twists and turns as well as HEA! 5 STARS all the way! I'm a fan for life!

This book was great i thought part one was excellent but it part 2 is just as great as part one, one thing that i have learned is that you can't judge a book by it cover because you never know how a person life is going to turn out to be because with all of the challenges that jose had faced in is life there is only one person that never turned they back on jose and that happened to be jewel jazmine sister one thing that jewel had thought jose is most importantly is to believe in his self and have more confident. Because if he is not going to do it nobody is not go take him seriously and that is one thing that i loved about jewel because she gave him self confidence. And as for connie she was just into her self and care way to much about what everybody think and just try to be high maintenance and that she got what she asked for her she is not to happy with her relationship but most of all she had learned her lesson on how to treat people.

I want to give this book 4.5 out of 5. Some books deserve that .5 star extra rating. I din't give it 5 stars as I still think Javier's storyline was a little better than this one.

Another hit by this author. An ultra sexy hot man that has made some bad choices in life and still paying for those past mistakes. In addition to overcoming those past mistakes and finding a decent job to provide for his son he is caught between two woman. Connie equally ultra sexy and pleasing to the eye and Jewel easy on the eyes as well. The difference one is only beautiful on the outside and has no character of substance beneathe the outside beauty. The other is beautiful through and through. She gives of herself freely and without conditions or limitations.

As a persnickety lover of all things Interracial Romance (IRR), I can definitely testify to the fact that Ancelli has definitely grown as a innovative/creative writer. She has a wonderful gift for crafting characters that you will root for, and villains that you will want to slap silly.

My only issues with this book was the small amount of lag, and the issues that Ancelli had writing dialogue for the juvenile characters in her book.

Other than that, I Loved it!

Giving this one: 3.5 stars

Awesome Follow-up

My introduction to author Ancelli was Love Through Pain and it was fantastic! Once I saw Not Always available for pre-order I did what any book addict would do...I one clicked for myself, gifted it to my mother and sisters and encouraged my friends to pick this gem up. If you are looking for a read to pass time, this is not the book for you. However, if you want to laugh, cry, curse and fall in love with characters then buy, loan or share with a friend. I guarantee that Ancelli's writings will be in your "to be read again" pile. This book was fantastic! Can not wait until her next offering.

Quick review

Very good book I loved the rags to riches sorta storyline, I felt something was missing, not sure what honestly. Sorta like when we have you make a cake and forget the vanilla extract...the cake is still great but you know its missing something... yep just like that.

Anywho Jose was great, he is a very realistic character which made the book that much better. Jewel was great also no complaints there at all.

To sum up this book... never judge a book by its cover.. so cliche lol

My jewel would have been Anita Marshall (model)
My Jose would have been Andrea Denver (model)

Read more than just the book cover

This book is about getting a second chance at life and love. José is a great example of why it's important to read more than just the book cover. Jewel accepted him as is and didn't let his past deter her. José learned how to be himself, to accept himself, and to love himself. He finally understood that he was enough. Jewel was able to find love again and to get everything she needed and wanted. I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend to others.

Not Always

It's funny how you can read a book and different songs pop into your head. This book reminded me of several Jamie Grace's song, even though this is not Christian Fiction I could not help but think of songs like The Waiting, Little Ol' Me, Fighter, Just a Friend and Every Bit Lovely. To me one of the signs of a good story is when music pops in your head as you are reading or maybe after you have read. This story was so much better than Love Through Pain

Great follow-up to a great book

Ancelli has done it again. This was a great follow-up to Love through pain, which is my favorite book by this author. I hope some how she will continue with this series, because I would love to see these characters again. Maybe Javier and Jose have a cousin she can write about lol.
