Putting Down Roots

Rate this book
She came to the small town of Roots with a plan. Living with a handsome cowboy? Definitely not part of the plan.

Olivia
After my senior manager suggested I take time off for my mental health, I headed to the small town of Roots, TX to reassure my parents my anxiety is under control. On my first night in town, an unexpected plumbing accident lands me in the home of Rhett Lawson, a rugged cowboy with a gentle heart. The more I’m around Rhett, the harder it becomes to leave Roots. But with a promotion waiting for me back in the city—and people counting on me to return—how can I possibly balance my own happiness with everyone else’s expectations?

Rhett
When I promised Olivia’s parents I’d let her stay with me, I didn’t expect to like the woman who’s kept her parents at a distance for years. What started as a favor to the couple who became my chosen family has turned into something far more complicated. Now, I’m the co-owner of a ninety-pound rescue dog, and I can’t get my new roommate out of my head. After losing so much in the past, I swore I’d never open myself up to love again, but the walls I’ve built around my heart are crumbling, and I fear there’s no way to put them back up.

I had the absolute privilege of reading Putting Down Roots early as an ARC reader, and let me just say — I adored this book. Jenna Rogers has crafted a story that’s heartfelt, relatable, and full of swoony cowboy charm.

First off, can we talk about Rhett? He’s truly the total package. A hardworking cowboy who also bakes, plays guitar, and openly supports mental health? It doesn’t get better than that. I loved how he knew what he wanted and supported Olivia through every step of her journey without ever trying to change her.

Olivia was so painfully relatable in the best way. Her struggles with anxiety and panic attacks mirrored so much of my own experience, making her story feel incredibly personal and authentic. Watching her realize that the high-stakes, high-pressure career she’d built wasn’t actually the best fit for her — and seeing her find and accept who she truly is — was so beautiful. And the way Rhett championed her growth without pushing? Absolute perfection.

The mental health representation in this book was spot-on. I loved how it showed the importance of not just seeking help but finding the right help — counselors who truly work with you instead of boxing you in. The incorporation of non-profits, animal rescue (Maverick stole my heart!), and strong community ties made the story feel even richer.

I also really appreciated the growth in Olivia’s relationship with her parents — it was honest and healing, and it didn’t feel rushed or forced. And I loved that both Rhett and Olivia came with their own baggage and were able to show each other love and acceptance in the healthiest ways.

The side characters were just as lovable as the leads, and it feels like Jenna Rogers has perfectly set up at least two possible sequels — which I am already dying to get my hands on.

If you’re a fan of Elsie Silver or Lyla Sage, you’re going to fall hard for this story — it has all the cowboy charm and emotional depth, but with a slightly more “PG” approach to the spice.

Putting Down Roots is a beautiful, heartwarming debut, and I am so excited to watch Jenna Rogers grow as an author. I’m already counting down the days until her next release. I loved every second of this story!

Starting this book felt almost meant to be with May being mental health awareness month. Putting Down Roots has such an honest, heartfelt look at anxiety, self-worth, and healing, which makes it even more meaningful this month.

I absolutely loved watching Olivia’s journey. Going from being completely consumed by anxiety, expectations and a fear of failing, to learning how to live for herself and not just for others. Her growth felt real, occasionally messy, but so important.

When you add in the witty and playful banter Rhett the Broody guitar playing cowboy (yes please), and Callie, the bubbly side character I now want as a best friend and a full book to read about, you’ve got something that’s emotional, fun, and heartwarming.

And the mother daughter relationship? Absolutely wrecked me but in the best way possible. It was tender and so full of love. It made me think of mine and my moms relationship.

Huge thank you to Jenna Rogers for the opportunity to read this early! I adored every page! (Seriously… I couldn’t stop crying)

If you’re looking for a book that has a good mix of heartache and hope, laughter and healing, all while celebrating mental health in an authentic way, this is one to add to your TBR immediately.

First off I just have to start with the fact that Rhett is just the perfect example of a chivalrous cowboy that you just can't get enough of.

This book is amazing it did something that is very difficult it touched on some hard and heavy mental health challenges and was still a feel good read from start to finish.

The author does such a good job of giving the perfect amount of background information to allow the reader to really grasp how characters like Olivia are feeling and the emotional and mental loops her mind is taking at moments that to someone on the outside may seem like a great thing. The bonds that Olivia and Rhett with not only each other but the whole town keep you coming back for more wanting to learn more about each person and each unique relationship.

I'm a sucker for a forced proximity and I love the dual POV especially now that I have a kid and I have to put the book down a more than I would like to.

As a native Texan I enjoyed the setting and I thought the book played into the Texas theme pretty well and I love even more that in the acknowledgments I learned she took a road trip to Texas.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and definitely stayed up way to late because I just couldn't put it down. I am so honored that I got the chance to be an advanced reader. I'm pretty sure I told almost everyone I know that I was getting an ARC of this book and before I even finished it I told them they had to get a copy for themselves!

Thank you Jenna Rogers for the chance to read this book before the rest of the world I can't recommend it enough!

I was an ARC reader for this book and am leaving my review voluntarily. I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. The female main character Olivia comes into the story being a bit bratty, cutting off her parents because she “doesn’t want to be a burden” which hurts her parents because they don’t know what they’ve done wrong since all they ever did was support her. She suffers from anxiety and panic attacks and with a super stressful job as an accountant, she’s told by her job coach to take a break for a few months. She goes back to Roots, where her parents are living and meets Rhett who sees how bratty and ungrateful Olivia is toward her parents and calls her out on her behavior. Unfortunately, even though the book says she grows as a person, she then starts relying on basically everyone else to fix her life and it doesn’t really seem like she overcame her mental health struggles. I liked the small town western contemporary romance, but unfortunately Olivia was just not my cup of tea for a main character

Olivia is forced to take a leave of absence from her work due to stress & panic attacks. She decides to head to Roots, Texas, where her parents are living. She ends up staying with Rhett who is kind of like a son to her parents. They definitely get off on the wrong foot but shortly after, Rhett thinks maybe he misjudged her. As they spend time together, their feelings grow. They were super cute together. I liked the mental health aspect of it. I suffer from anxiety so it was very relatable to me. I loved seeing Rhett try to help her figure out how to manage it. I loved the relationship with Olivia & her mom. It was a little strained for a while because Olivia pushed her parents away but it was beautiful seeing them work it out again. We get to know some other characters throughout the story and it definitely sets it up for future books.

Overall though, I'm giving this one a 3.5/5. It was a cute story but I did find some parts didn't flow very well.

This one releases May 9. Thanks so much to Jenna Rogers for this ARC.

Big thanks to Bookworm PR and the Jenna Rogers for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

🪴 Tropes: Small-town romance, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, found family, slow burn, cinnamon roll hero

Putting Down Roots by Jenna Rogers is like stepping into a warm, small-town hug. Olivia moves to Roots for a fresh start, and the last thing she expects is to clash with Rhett, the town’s grumpy but secretly soft-hearted cowboy. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry slow-building, and the sense of community? Absolutely spot on.

The story leans heavy on small-town vibes, complete with quirky neighbours and Friday night gatherings that make you feel like you’re right there with them. Rhett is the classic grumpy/sunshine hero, and watching him unravel around Olivia is pure magic. No spice, just pure, heartfelt romance that leaves you with a smile.

This was the cutest book. Kick my feet in the air type of book.

The way Jenna Rogers writes about anxiety is perfection. She really explained in words how anxiety can impact a person's life.

I appreciate the way she wrote it and had a huge focus on it.

It was awesome reading about the FMC growing and pushing through her anxiety. It was even better to see how hard it is to go through and it's always a work in progress, even when you're moving forward.

The MMC is swoonworthy and I think I have a new book boyfriend to obsess over. He is just perfection.

The MMC also has his own struggles and secrets and even has his own growth.

Both characters mesh so well together and their banter is just so cute.

I sat here kicking my feet and giggling for so much of this story.

I 100% recommend this book to everyone. I'm usually a spice book reader, but this was just too perfect.

I loved the tension and it never went overboard. It is just a cute, wholesome, book that really needs to be shared and read.

This isn’t just a small-town cowboy romance. It’s a story for the overachievers, the perfectionists, the women who’ve pushed through panic attacks and burnout and still showed up for everyone but themselves. Olivia’s anxiety is written with such care and honesty, I felt seen on every page. The pressure she’s under, the way she hides it, the exhaustion of pretending; it’s all heartbreakingly real. And then there’s Rhett: the soft cowboy with big golden retriever energy, a heart full of patience, and a kitchen full of baked goods. He doesn’t swoop in to save her; he holds space while she finds her own way home.

This book is full of warmth, wit, and small-town charm, but beneath that is a depth and tenderness that lingers. Perfect for fans of emotional-but-cozy reads, found family, and closed-door romance that still delivers all the feels.

Where do I even start with this? Oh, 5 ⭐ btw. Because yeah. Holy cow. This book was the cutest, beautiful, wholesome, most heart pumping book ever. Every single character had their own "umph" to them, I could not stop being so invested in their lives and what each one had to offer. I'm still processing that I even finished this book. This book didn't have any crazy or any plot twists, it's just a fun read but also dives deep into the theme of mental health and I really appreciated that. The love, the yearning and the backstories in this book KILLLLSS ME.

This book follows Olivia who struggles with mental health issues and her job as a tax accountant isn't really giving her that happiness that she needs. Taking a break, she goes to Texas to meet her parents in a small town called Roots. Where it just feels like home to everybody. You can't leave even if you really wanted to. Unexpectedly, she meets Rhett. A hard-working, kind, funny, DEVOTED cowboy who is just an eye catcher. On her first night in town, she lives with him for a couple of months and finds herself trouble...

Absolutely perfection to its core. The theme of just anxiety attacks and afraid of disappointing people, especially when it comes to your parents was written beautifully. I related to Olivia on the mental health aspect because I deal with it myself and it is a tough journey. But once you have the right people to surround yourself with, life just gets brighter. :) And don't be afraid to follow your dreams. Don't be scared to do what makes you happy because even if you're going on a path everybody wants you, but you're not enjoying yourself; it's not worth it. It never is and this book taught me that. I truly think the universe did something when I picked up this book. Who knew I would read about a girl scared to disappoint everyone when she didn't want to follow a certain career, but she goes on to realize she lives one life. And no one can tell her what she needs to love. Writing this is touching my heart in ways I can't explain because I'm also trying to figure out my life at the moment. Everything really is for a reason, isn't it?

Let's talk about the characters.

Olivia. My girl. God, she really is beautiful inside and out. I can't even begin to tell you amazing Olivia is. Her character development and journey of discovering herself was a ride I will never forget. She was so relatable, sweet, and had such a radiant energy. Throughout this whole book, I rooted for her. I wanted her to have that happy ending because she deserves it. She really does. And it's not like she had horrible parents or whatever, because her parents are literally DREAM parents for I think everybody. But I think that goes to show you that just because you have parents that everybody wants, there will always be something a child struggles with internally and nobody knows. It's important to not judge someone just based on their lifestyle. You never know what they're going through/went through. And she was the perfect resemblance for that. Olivia. Truly. A beautiful character. I love her.

Rhett. We can't forget about the person that tried everything in his power to give my girl that happy ending can we? Rhett. He was so gruff but so sweet too and I really enjoyed the balance. I think it's really adorable how Olivia's parents loved him already because of what he does for them. How everybody is close with another makes my heart LEAP. It is so cute and fun to read. Rhett's character was also really calming. When he first heard about her, he wasn't a fan because he thought how could Olivia distance herself from her parents when it's all he ever dreamed of. But later on, of course he can't help but fall for her. The silent yearn in this book... It was so fucking worth it. I could almost cry just thinking about it. The flirting, the cute teasing and this man is GIDDY. I loved the way he made sure that Olivia was the best she could be. And his story is also heartbreaking. I related to him as well in the sense of afraid to tell someone what happened in the past because you're so scared to lose that person and the love they offer you. A masterpiece. I love both of them. My babies.

"It's my favorite view in the entire world, but today, as I watch Oliviva's eyes sparkle with amusement, the sun shining on her face and illuminating the tiny freckles on her cheekbones, all I can focus on is her."
"I grab onto her hand, looking into her eyes and giving her the only thing I can ever give her. 'You're not alone."
"Oh no you don't, Wildflower. I'm not doing this because I have to. I want to hold you and comfort you. I want to see you at your weakest and strongest moments. I want to be with you every second of every day. You've made it impossible not to fall in love with you, and whether you like it or not, when I love someone, I will do anything for her. I will do anything for you. I want to protect you. I want you to allow yourself to be vulnerable with you too. Because let me tell you, I'm a mess."
"Oh my god. I love Rhett."
"I am so damn proud of you for taking charge of your life, for deciding you weren't living the life you wanted, and recognizing you have the power to change that. And I hope you already know this, but I'm going to say it anyway, I'm here for you. I'll help you move out of your apartment. I'll talk through pros and cons of taking this job with Morgan, I'll be by your side when you put in your notice. Whatever you need, I'm here for you. I love you, Wildflower."
"A year ago, I rolled into this town only focused on getting through the three months I had to be here, desperate to keep people at a distance. Now, I have a whole swarm of people who love me, and I'm putting down roots in the pplce I least expected. Yet, I wouldn't want my life to be any other way. I finally get to live life on my terms with the people I love."

Jenna Rogers captures a beautiful slice of cowboy romance, found family, and mental health struggles in her book Putting Down Roots.

✰✰ Official playlist for the book (with permission from the Author to make and share) can be found here: Putting Down Roots ✰✰

This is a wonderful book! I think it's really well done, and personally I'd more accurately rate it a 3.75 ✰ (but on here, 4 ✰).

Here are some things I really enjoyed about it:
- Realistic look into negative thought spirals and panic attacks
- Accurately shows the struggles of an ideal life vs reality and wanting things she believes she can't have
- Emotional development is really well done for all the characters
- All of the characters are really likeable.
- The romance is great! Slow burn, great vibes. It didn't feel too slow or rushed, it was very natural. Not to mention, what a great mmc!
- The scenery is beautiful! I loved visualizing everything, and Jenna is so talented with making memorable moments stand out with details (like that date?! Omg).

The reason I am rating it 3.75 ✰
- I feel like Olivia's growth as a character didn't happen until the very very end, and for this reason the book felt kind of repetitive in terms of her thoughts and actions.
- I think most other characters were well developed, but I wish I saw more of their stories in this book, and saw them going through struggles with Olivia, not just being told about them.
- I found myself longing for more external based conflicts, after Olivia's resolve with herself (like her being confident and willing, but external things happening more often). To me it seemed like most of the conflicts in Olivia's life were from... well, Olivia's mind. I get that mental health is mostly responsible for this, and maybe this book was intended to highlight that, but as a reader I think I would have liked more external conflicts personally.

This by no means implies that the book wasn't great -- it still is amazing! I think it just missed the mark with me though on a few things. But overall I would still recommend people pick up and read this book!

Putting Down Roots by Jenna Rogers was pure charm, a total warm-and-fuzzy, kick-your-heels-up kind of read. It wrapped me in comfort like a cozy blanket and welcomed me right into the heart of small-town Roots, Texas, where every page felt like coming home. I love Texas and want to visit one day from NY!

Let’s be real, Rhett might just be one of the most quietly swoon-worthy characters I’ve read in a while. He’s all grit and heart, the kind of guy who gets up before dawn to work the ranch and still makes time to check in with the people he cares about. His bond with Olivia isn’t about fixing her, it’s about holding space while she finds her own way, and that kind of support? Unmatched.

Olivia’s story is a quiet kind of powerful, the kind that sneaks up on you. Her internal battles felt real, not dramatized, and her slow unraveling of what she truly wanted in life was both refreshing and bittersweet. Instead of pushing her, Rhett simply stood beside her, steady and sure, letting her figure things out on her own terms. Their dynamic was built on patience, trust, and the kind of care that doesn’t ask for anything in return.

What stood out most in this story was how thoughtfully it approached mental health, not just as a theme, but as a lived reality. It didn’t shy away from the complexities of healing or pretend that one-size-fits-all solutions work. Instead, it showed the messy, personal journey of finding the right kind of care. Add in a lovable rescue animal, a meaningful connection to local causes, and a close-knit community, and the result is a story that feels both impactful and deeply human.

Jenna Rogers makes an impressive entrance with Putting Down Roots, a quiet, emotionally rich story that lingers long after the last page. Her voice feels both fresh and grounded, and I’m already looking forward to what she’ll write next. This one nestled into my heart before I even realized it.

10/10 - 5 Star Read!

💐Putting Down Roots🩵🌼

Oh my goshhhh I LOVED THIS BOOK. Jenna’s writing is addicting to read and I loved every aspect of this book!! Let’s start with Rhett- talk about swoony😍 he was just so perfect!! Kind and considering, and just loyal and caring!! Such a good person. The way he came through always for Olivia during her panic attacks just warmed my heart🥹 Olivia is so strong, I loved getting to see her open up and take charge to get a handle of her anxiety. She’s such a sweet and lovable character and seeing her and Rhett fall for eachother was amazing and romantic🥹

“Your beautiful soul deserves a beautiful life, and I would go to the ends of the earth to make that happen.”😭🥹💓

“I want you to believe that you’re strong, worthy, and loved. You’re not a burden. You will never be a burden to me, or anyone else in the world, for that matter. You are Olivia freaking Parker.” 😭😍

As someone who has had off and on anxiety for most of my life the representation in this book was spot on!! I can only say good things about how it was done, and it was so refreshing to see something so real and raw be put into a book💓

The side characters were so perfect for this story and I loved them, the moments with her mom made me so emotional 🥹 She had the best parents they were so strong and supportive. Callie is THE BEST. Oh my gah I loved her personality and all her wild antics and I really hope we see her in the next Roots book🥹

Thank you Jenna for trusting me with reading this and I loved every single minute of it😭 you have no idea how much the acknowledgements made me tear up. I’m so so proud of you and your newest release 🥹💓💓

I thought the focus on Olivia’s anxiety was so enlightening. It was interesting to see how others viewed her relationship with her parents versus the way she viewed it, as well as how that affected her day-to-day life. It was sweet how Rhett was immediately so willing to help her because of his relationship with her parents. Callie was such a great side character. I love how supportive she is to both Rhett and Olivia. The struggles the couple were going through were real and raw. As the reader, I really was able to feel the push and pull of what they both wanted versus what they thought they deserved. Getting to see Olivia rebuild her relationship with her mom was so heartwarming. The character development of both Rhett and Olivia was so well done. I also really appreciated the set up the author did to prep for more books in the series. There are definitely some characters I’m looking forward to reading more of. The only thing I didn’t love is how Olivia doesn’t like when others try and help her achieve what she wants, but there were still times toward the end where she wouldn’t do it for herself. It got a little bit frustrating, but there was definitely growth from her on that front throughout the book. Unrelated to the plot, it made me really happy to see that they line danced, because I’ve been line dancing for a while and I love it!

It’s mental health awareness month and this was the perfect book to pick up/release for this month!

As someone with anxiety and panic attacks I felt everything that Olivia was going through. The constant overthinking, taking the world on the shoulders and not wanting to feel like a burden to others was so relatable.

Rhett was the perfect person for Olivia. The way this man supports her and loves her is just what she needed and didn’t know she needed. I love how he supported her and helped her through her anxiety/panic attacks as well as her career goals. He was there for her every step of the way.

I love communication and these two communicate so beautifully together. The way they open up to each other and help each other heal/grow was so beautiful and perfect.

I also want to add Rhett is the total package! He cooks, he is a hard worker and the man can sing and play guitar! I swooned over Rhett just as hard as Olivia did.

I am now super invested in the small town of Roots and can not wait to read Callie and Lauren’s story and see them get their HEA!

If you are looking for a small town/cowboy romance, forced proximity and mental health rep this book is for you!

Thank you so much Jenna Rogers for the arc of this book in return for my honest review.

I finished this last week and I'm still thinking about it. Rhett and Olivia are some of the most relatable characters I have ever read. I picked up this book because I just got approved as an ARC reader for the sequel and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I'm so glad I did!

Rhett is a smooth-talking cowboy with a heart of gold. After a tragic accident, he makes him home in small town Roots, Texas, trying to start over. Something in his past has put him off on love, making him feel undeserving and fearful that he's cursed to hurt those around him. After a few years, he finds community in Roots and leans into his new life with purpose and ease. He doesn't feel like he's missing out on love, he has people who love him, he's not looking for a woman. Especially a woman like Olivia.

Olivia didn't want to run away; she's not a quitter. She's worked hard for her professional tax career, and a little panic attack isn't going to stop her! She tells herself after each one brings her down more and more, until she caves and calls her mom. Ol's parents are worried sick about her and promise to drop everything they have earned in their quiet retired lives in Texas to move back to the city to be near their daughter. In a panic to not ruin their lives, Olivia takes a sabbatical from her job, just for a few months, to recoup and learn to manage her anxiety. But she is NOT staying in Roots. There's nothing for her in Roots and she will only be a burden on her parents. Olivia has every intention of using this time to reassure her parents, and herself, that she's perfectly fine all alone. What she didn't intend on finding was a handsome cowboy sharing his guestroom with her.

This is a clean, closed-door, cowboy, small-town romance. Forced proximity, a shared foster dog, fears and anxieties that Rhett and Olivia find they cannot battle alone. Maybe life as it was going before meeting was just fine but imagining life apart begins to feel like an impossible future. As Rhett resists what is right in front of him, Olivia battles what's behind her. This friends to lovers romance is so natural, full of modern pop culture, real world problems, a secret watering hole, star gazing, deep/meaningful friendships, and a German Shepherd who steals your heart!

Putting down roots was such a delightful and heartwarming read, even while it addresses more serious themes. It's handled with such genuine feeling that one finds oneself connecting deeply with the characters. Rhett is incredibly charming and sweet, and also patient; he might even inspire one to buy some cowboy boots and find a cowboy. I connected deeply with Olivia and the internal battles she struggles with, as well as her journey of self-discovery. I absolutely loved the music references in this book. I thought their relationship was so endearing, and I enjoyed watching them navigate it. It's got some great banter that will keep one smiling. Definitely a book worth reading.

You make me want to believe in myself again, but it’s going to take some time. I haven’t trusted myself in so long, and I’m still terrified I’m not enough to keep you safe and make you happy.”

“I know what it feels like to think you are doing more harm than good for the people you love, but I’ve learned over the last couple months that sometimes your mind lies to you. Don’t let that part of you win. You’re more than enough, Rhett.”

Putting Down Roots is a super cute, no spice, small town romance.
Olivia lives with panic attacks whilst working in San Francisco for a top firm. After another "episode" her company suggest she takes three months off to relax and get back on her feet so she heads to the small town of Roots. This is where she meets Rhett, a good friend of her parents. She is determined to return to her life in California after the three months but as the weeks pass, she finds herself more and more involved in the small town and has to decide what she really wants to do with her life.

As someone who lives with anxiety and experiences panic attacks, I thought this was a good representation of what life can be like. Rhett was such a great character, I loved how protective he was. Despite having some harder topics, this romance stayed sweet and I thought it was really well done. I would definitely recommend this if you're after a no spice small town romance!

Thank you to the Author for sending me an early copy to review!

Closed-door romance lovers, anxiety warriors, and anyone who loves a deep, character-driven love story, this one's for you! (also, Swifties!)

Absolutely loveloveLOVED it! As someone who deals with anxiety and panic attacks, I thought the portrayal of mental health—especially the internal chaos and how it can show up externally—was incredibly authentic and sensitively handled. It’s rare to find a romance that balances emotional depth with swoony moments so well, but this one nails it!

The romance itself is the perfect blend of tender, slow-burn chemistry and heartfelt connection. I loved the dual POV—it added such richness to the characters and gave real insight into their inner conflicts. Both leads felt layered and real, and watching them navigate their growth individually was really enjoyable and engaging.

Also, shoutout to the side characters! They were vivid and compelling, and I sincerely hope some of them get their own stories...! The whole book felt thoughtfully crafted and emotionally resonant, with just the right amount of charm and cowboy grit.

A sweet and romance that will have you swooning over the Hero and rooting for the heroine. This story hits on some delicate topics and the author does it with grace and understanding. I absolutely was sucked into this story.

Olivia has pushed her family away because of her deep anxiety. Her job is draining her and also the biggest source of her anxiety. One call to her mom and she ends up taking a sabbatical and ends up in Roots. She doesn’t want to be a burden…she needs help and she slowly lets everyone around her to do it. Especially her mom and Rhett.

Rhett has his own shadows but once he sees Olivia for the first time…those shadows turn into light. There was an instant connection between these two. I loved how even though Rhett didn’t want to open up fully with Olivia…he did and then he got to start taking care of her.

I loved following this sweet romance. It was so sweet and everything we love in clean romance. I absolutely adored everyone an can’t wait to get some side character stories.

Highly recommended.

You know those romance books that are so cute that they make you kick your feet in the air and giggle with happiness? If you’ve never experienced that, then definitely read this book because this book was one of those books for me! While it had its cute moments, I was really impressed with how well the mental health rep was written and intertwined in this book. The way that Rhett helped Olivia with her anxiety made me fall in love with him. Both of our main characters helped each other throughout this book. I loved seeing them become friends and falling in love during the process. I found this to be a great small town romance and I cannot wait to continue the series to see what happens to all of our characters (and I do mean all of our beloved characters). There were so many elements in this story! If you love or even like romance stories, then you should pick this book up! Be prepared to fall in love!

A beautiful mix of Mental health issues and Romance

This book beautifully intertwines mental health issues with an amazing Love story❤️ You had me at the dedication. “To the ones who are all too familiar with the suffocating grip of anxiety. To the ones who achieved what they thought they wanted, only to feel trapped by their own choices. And to the ones who believed they had to hide the storm inside their minds to protect those they love. You are not alone. Change is possible, and you are worthy of love just as you are.”
I just could not put it down. Olivia reminds me a lot of myself when it comes to Anxiety. Rhett is mysterious and closed off. This is definitely the book to read for Mental Health Awareness Month and I definitely recommend it! This story did not contain any spice but i feel like if it did it would have ruined the love connection between Olivia and Rhett. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all around Amazing writing, amazing plot, and absolutely amazing characters!

Thank you Jenna Rogers for the ARC .

Honestly first let's get into the good part about the book . The character Olivia was really well written , I mean I understand the anxiety part and distancing herself so as not to be a burden . And her helping out at the shelter was really thoughtful .
Then her parents were really supportive and support is important for anxiety .

Now to the parts that fell flat , honestly rhett hated her initially and just for no reason , I mean I understand him feeling a dislike to her for being mean to people he loves , but really it felt a lot forced . And it all happened kinda tooo fast .

But all in all its an okay book . If it floats your boat then it floats . Do give it a try , I look forward to more book from this author as there is a lot of potential in this series .

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy and am sharing my honest review based on my personal experience. Thank you Jenna Rogers for the ARC.

I had such high hopes for this book, but unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. I ended up DNFing at 30%, so I won’t be leaving a star rating. While I typically enjoy a slow romantic burn, the plot itself moved so slowly that I struggled to stay engaged. There wasn’t enough momentum or development to keep my interest.

I also had a hard time connecting with the FMC. While I completely understand how challenging chronic anxiety can be, her character came across as bratty and entitled. She didn’t seem open to help or growth, and the way she treated her parents made the story difficult to get through.

This one wasn’t for me, but I’m still open to reading more from this author in the future.

Putting Down Roots is a cozy, heart-deep romance with emotional weight, authentic mental health rep, and a cowboy MMC who will 100% ruin you for all other book boyfriends.

Rhett is the kind of man who bakes, plays guitar, opens doors, and takes care of you during a panic attack without ever trying to “fix” you. And Olivia? She’s so relatable, especially for anyone who’s ever felt pressure to be “fine” on the outside while struggling on the inside. Watching her learn to live for herself again made me cry more than once.

This story is full of small-town charm, found family, soft moments, and real healing. I laughed. I cried. I highlighted half the book. And the “no third act breakup” twist? Instant comfort read. Jenna Rogers is absolutely one to watch, and Putting Down Roots is the start of something big.

Five stars. Add to cart. Preorder. Tattoo Rhett’s name on your heart.

I love love loved everything about this! Jenna’s writing style, the mental health representation (fellow anxiety girly😅), the side characters. ALL. OF. IT.😍

Rhett & Olivia? Ugh, Swoon🥹 and I can’t forget their doggo Maverick🥰

I knew Roots was going to hold a special place in my heart from the start and I was right! The found family for not only Olivia with the girlies and the rescue, but for Rhett with Olivia’s parents and the whole town of Roots. It was written perfectly! Truly a family that anyone would be so lucky to have💗 I had so much fun reading this one and I cannot wait for book 2 so I can go back to Roots!

Thank you again for sending this to me Jenna!🥹

If you love
•Cowboys
•Small town
•Found family
•Forced proximity
•No third act breakup
•Dual POV
•Country Music & guitar playing

Then you NEED to read this!😍

To summarise my thoughts on ‘Putting Down Roots’: AMAZING!

From a handsome cowboy and a dog rescue centre to a small town slow-burn romance plot spurred on by close proximity, this book has it all.

The book is very well written and well-paced. It was really quick to get into and get to grips with the characters and places. I found the plot to be clearly thought out and enjoyable. Without wanting to spoil anything, I laughed and cried whilst reading (sometimes simultaneously!).

I saw a lot of my younger self in the FMC. Her struggles with anxiety and feelings of having to follow a certain path to keep others happy were similar to my own. I felt this aspect of the book was handled with the care it deserved.

💐PUTTING DOWN ROOTS book #1 💐 by @jennarogersbooks RELEASES: May 9th

QOTD: Would you prefer the small town life or city one?

What a cute and cozy read! I loved being invited into the small town of Roots, Tx to be a part of this heartfelt story. I felt so much for Olivia and the journey she went through with discovering what it was she really wanted in her life and her living with anxiety which was portrayed so well. And Rhett 🥹 he was there with her every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and giving MMC.

Some info about this book:
💛 found family
💛 forced proximity
💛he bakes for her and plays guitar
💛anxiety rep
💛he falls first
💛dual pov

3.5⭐️As someone who struggles with anxiety, I feel like the anxiety and panic attack representation in this book was done so well. Sometimes it felt like it was going in circles, but that’s genuinely how my anxiety and rumination feels. Seeing so much of my own anxiety in Olivia’s made it kind of hard to read at times, but I’m glad I continued on because it is a cute story.

I flew through the first half of the book, and the second half started to drag a bit for me.

Rhett and Olivia deciding to coparent in order to foster Maverick was so adorable! Really enjoyed seeing the three of them together❤️

Do you love Hallmark Movies?
What about Small Town Romance?
Or perhaps a cowboy MMC in wranglers, boots and a backwards cap?
Do you identify as a “Swiftie”?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I absolutely recommend reading Putting Down Roots!
You’ll meet Olivia who struggles with Anxiety, Rhett who is trying to make up for his past, and see how the small town of Roots, Texas manages to change them both.

I honestly enjoyed every minute of this book, and I’m so glad there are two more books to come, because I’m not ready to be finish with Roots!
