Two O'Clock Heist sends San Francisco Homicide Inspector Rebecca Mayfield out of her jurisdiction and out of her depth when her inquiries into the murder of an old friend gain the attention of a gang of Russian mobsters.

Richie Amalfi, who Rebecca sees as a charmer with an indifference to the fine points of the law, seems to know a little too much (or maybe a lot too much) about the people who are not only trying to stop Rebecca's investigation, but to stop her permanently. This only makes her question, even more, exactly who Richie is. But for now, he's the only one helping her in the face of threats to her life.

Rebecca's interest in Richie grows as the situation takes a deadly turn. Through him, she looks beyond hard evidence to the secrets at the heart of the case, and in turn, to the secrets of her own heart. But through it all, Rebecca has to wonder if she'll end up as dead as a cold Russian winter.

This series is a spin-off from the Angie Amalfi books. It explores the feeling of two completely different individuals who are attracted to each other. They do not want a connection with each other but they can't keep away.
Homicide Inspector Rebecca Mayfield is a go by the book persons, there are no shades of gray. She is a workaholic. She has limited outside interest. Rebecca has a very strong moral attitude. She grew up on a farm in Idaho.
Richie Amalfi is entirely different. His source of wealth is a mystery, he is often in the view of law enforcement because of his actions. He has a couple of questionable friends. He has a large extended family and his Mother wants a grandchild. He runs an high-end nightclub. He goes out with fun loving girls.I
In this book, a friend of Rebecca is found murder in a nearby town. Her husband is the main suspect and her daughter is missing. She feels the investigation into her murder is lacking. She begins to look at the husband and attracts the Russian mob and the FBI. Richie comes to her aid. The twist and turns will maintain you interested. I highly recommend this series.

In Two O’Clock Heist by Joanne Pence, homicide inspector Rebecca Mayfield is disturbed to learn that a woman who attended the police academy with her but left the police force three years earlier has been murdered. She learns about this when her friend Richie Amalfi, rumored to be “connected,” panics upon hearing of the murder of a woman cop and seeks her out, bringing him back into her life. He takes Rebecca to the houseboat in nearby Sausalito, where she is disturbed to learn that the detective there has very little experience and seems to be slipshod in her methods. Thus, Rebecca decides to find the killer herself. What she does not realize is that this will immerse her in dealing with the Russian mob.

Two O’Clock Heist is the second book in the Rebecca Mayfield series of romantic mysteries written beautifully and expertly by USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Joanne Pence. After enjoying One O’Clock Hustle, the first book in this captivating and promising series last month, I found myself thinking about these characters and thus I picked up this second thrilling adventure.

In Two O’Clock Heist, we follow once again homicide detective Rebecca Mayfield and her good-looking, well groomed on and off love interest, Richie Amalfi. As we well know from the previous book, Rebecca is a by-the-book cop and Richie seems to be quite connected and in love head over heels with her. Once again, they team up in order to find out what happened when a former colleague of Rebecca‘s is found dead in a rich neighborhood.

Dark secrets, Russian mobsters, a thorough but extremely dangerous investigation, and unexpected situations find our two protagonists fighting for their lives.

The excellent and vivid writing and fast-paced action are amazingly matched by a superb performance delivered by respected and talented voiceover artist Kristi Burns. Reading in a clear and pleasant voice, tapping her significant skills in order to deliver a balanced performance, she is just perfect for this kind of cozy, funny, and romantic mystery.

Once again Joanne Pence has written another thrilling and captivating story filled with characters that feel alive and driven by a compelling plot. I was completely immersed in this story for the six hours of the audio production and I can’t wait to dive right back into the lives of Rebecca and Richie with the next novel in the series.

I am highly recommending these audiobooks to all those who are looking for a good time and want to cuddle up with a cozy romantic murder mystery.

Rebecca and Richie have this love hate relationship with each other a female inspector and a handsome Italian. Not the type of guy Rebecca is looking for but always seems to have the most fun with. I just love the way Richie is always trying to keep Rebecca safe, seeing as she's a cop and very headstrong and gets herself into tough situations. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Two O'Clock Heist (Inspector Rebecca Mayfield Mysteries Book 2) — Joanna Pence (30 chapters) Oct. 7-11, 2020

I read this book right after I read the Prequel and as a part of a 3 book set.

Rebecca’s old police school friend ends up dead and she teams up with Ritchie to solve the case. Between Ritchie’s connections and Rebecca’s know how, they aim to discover what is going on.

This turned out to be a jim-dandy of a book. It is a solid read. The main characters are getting closer and yet they try to realize that it wouldn’t work, since one is a cop and the other works (maybe) a shady Italian thing. Despite this, they cannot help being pulled together. The ending is very good.

I really like the way Rebecca and Ritchie play off each other. What makes this series nice is that the prequel was written before the first book in this series was written. (I guess then it really doesn’t make it a prequel,) still I really liked that first book, and I still liked his power couple. I think this series has real potential to go far.

Four stars.

If you want to read a fun murder mystery with a bit of romance, Two O’clock Heist might fit the bill, but you have to be willing to suspend disbelief quite a bit. The police officer protagonist is a strong character, but her police work is sloppy. I found myself wanting to yell at her many times. Spoiler alert: If you ever get kidnapped and tossed in a dumpster, don’t go home and take a shower. The police need to document everything if you want to press charges (and when someone tries to kill you by beating you up and tossing you in a dumpster, I can’t imagine you’d want to give them a pass).

So overall, it’s a fun story, but don’t overthink it. If you want something gritty and realistic, look elsewhere.

This is part of a series. I have listened to three of the books, and I enjoyed them all, but they all require the same suspension of disbelief.

The narrator does a nice job bringing the book to life.

You can see San Francisco from across the bridge

Once again who sets a story in the sleepy neighborhood called the Richmond District. Known as Little Russia, there is no relationship to Russian Hill known as the upper side of Little Italy or North Beach. This story weaves an intriguing web between the past of Rebecca and Richie's life and a tantalizing glimpse at a future. I digress, as the setting shifts in part to Sausalito- a hamlet of the rich and house boat dwellers. There is some and good and a weird little dog named Spike. All the ingredients for another chapter of this incredible series set in the waning days of San Francisco a nice place to visit. On to 3pm and all is not well.

Fun, endearing, and a darn good mystery!

In this Inspector Mayfield mystery, Rebecca comes up against the Russian mob in San Francisco while working out of her jurisdiction (and out of her depth!) to find the killer of an old friend. Have no fear, Richie and his cohorts, Shay and Vito are nearby and covering her six. I'm so enjoying this series! Will Rebecca and Richie get together or will they not? They're questioning their attraction and keeping us guessing.

Second in a series and loved book one. The one continues the will they/won't they relationship between Inspector Rebecca and "connected" Rickie as they deal with another murder in the Bay Area. Well written and plotted with the Russian Mafia figuring in the plot. Very entertaining

Enjoyable series

I love this series. Rebecca is a homicide inspector (detective) who teams up with Richie who owns a nightclub to solve murders. Some of the scenes are hilarious and a lot of them are really scary. Richie gets shot in this one. If you like a story that falls in between a cozy mystery and a hardcore police procedural this series is for you.

As the clock ticks to Two O'Clock Heist, Rebecca Mayfield finds herself enchanted and frustrated with Richie Amalfi once again. When Richie shows up at Rebecca's desk in the homicide bureau of the San Francisco Police Department worried she's been killed, she is torn between frustration, embarrassment, and affection. His determination to assure her safety ruffles her independent feathers even as she revels in his concern for her. Rebecca discovers the actual victim is a former police officer friend, who is being maligned for her tenuous, at least in Rebecca's opinion, connection to the Russian mob. Rebecca's loyalty to her friend combined with her determination to find the truth no matter how it turns out leaves Richie frustrated but determined to keep her safe even as she continuously puts herself in danger, or as she sees it as just doing her job, and thwarts his attempts to share his affection for her. Rebecca's independent streak is further challenged when she feels forced to move into Richie's guest room after her apartment is broken into and her beloved dog, Spike, disappears. The search for Spike had me blinking back tears and on edge fearing for his fate. As Joanne Pence weaves the intrigue around a series of burglaries, the victim's missing daughter, and the victim's possible involvement in the thefts, Richie's skirting the edges of the law pushes against Rebecca's dedication to enforcing the law challenging both to make decisions they might otherwise not make. The chemistry between Rebecca and Richie had me cheering them on even during those moments when I questioned their compatibility. Pence offers a refreshing change of pace with a male character who doesn't come across as the typical caricature of a man devoid of emotional expression as well as a strong woman who doesn't need saved from herself.

I read the first book in this series and was curious to see how the dubious relationship between Inspector Rebecca Mayfield and "businessman"Richie Amalfi would develop. I really like the direction the author has taken! Once again the main characters are thrown into a perilous situation (this one involving scary Russian mobsters, illegal wine, stolen jewels, and the murder of an old friend). But as the fast-paced mystery unfolds, we also learn more about the characters of Rebecca and Richie, and how they might somehow make an impossible connection ... possible. Can't wait for the next installment.
